Join the Bomb Squad Tom Burnsie player

Pros: Hands down the hottest bat of 2017...so far! Really loving this thing and the way it feels. Super forgiving on mishits and it seems to have an even larger sweet spot than last years model. I will continue to drop bombs with the Prime 917 just like I did with my 916. The custom lizard skin grip is sick! I think it feels and looks better than any other lizard skin you can buy off the shelf. Slugger is on top of their game!

Cons: absolutely nothing. my last years model did break eventually, but the return process was faster than any other company i have dealt with. Things break, but slugger will take care of you!

BEST BAT ON THE MARKET Will King player

Pros: Great feel to it, ball jumps off the bat. Great bat for power hitters and contact hitters. Grip feels amazing, doesn't feel like ordinary lizard skin. Huge upgrade with the tru-3 connection piece. Not as much flex as the 916, which I like. With amazing contact you wont hear a thing, but feels amazing coming off the bat. If you want a balanced bat with he most pop you have ever experienced, buy the Louisville 917.

Cons: Very slight rattling but maybe I'm just paranoid from the 916 issues. Grip is already starting to come off a little, had it for a month.

Louisville Has the Best BBCOR Bats Brock player

Pros: This is by far the best bat that you can buy for BBCOR. It has great pop and feels balanced in your hands. There is zero vibration and is better for guys who have power. Louisville has the best line of BBCOR on the market too. The 917 is my favorite, but i also really like the 517. That bat does not contain as much power as the 917, but still is great. Get the 917 if you are willing to spend double the price, but if you like aluminum bats better, the 517 is the better buy.

Cons: I gave the durability category a 3 because the "barrel twisting" thing that Louisville was supposed to fix on this model is not fixed. It does not affect the player or the swing, but some people did not like that in the previous models.

Pros: NONE

Cons: i bought the 2016 bat and almost imedietley the barrel felt loose where it connected to the handle (it would twist and shake) so of course i sent the bat in with the warranty and they sent me the 2017 model. But guess what happened. THE SAME THING. when you swing the bat the barrel feels like its going to fly off the handel. like its not connected very well. I alreay used the warranty so now what am i supposed to do? Also im 17 years old and had to work hard for all that money. This bat is a joke. I wouldnt even recommend it to my worst enemy.

Improvement From Last Year Darius player

Pros: -Amazing vibration reduction -Great pop on the sweet spot -Off center hits still jump off the bat fairly well (compared to some BBCORs where the ball goes literally nowhere if you don't hit it on the sweet spot) -Nice minimalistic/simple but slick design -Grip is no too thick or thin -Tapered handle, and knob is pretty comfortable

Cons: -Paint chipped after overtime use (but that's every bat) -In my opinion, this bat feels ever so SLIGHTLY heavier than last years model, but all the pros of this bat overturn this con because it is truly great.

Best Bat So Far Steven player

Pros: The pop of this bat is truly an experience of its own. I have hit over 1000 baseballs at full power, and have only received 2 noticeable scratches. There is almost no vibration and sting to the hands when you're jammed inside with a ball either.

Cons: The only thing that I can say is a con, is the grip. The Lizard Skin grip has an amazing feel, but batting gloves are recommended when swinging this bat to unlock the true power of your swing.

Pros: I have never been a fan of 3 piece bats, until now... The last non one piece bat I had was the demarini cf 6 and I wasn't very happy with that. I also have never had a bad one piece bat so I was skeptical to use this. This bat blew me away. I had incredible bat speed, the bat felt great in my hands with the built in lizard skin grip. The bat had unbelievable pop and the ball was jumping off the bat. 10/10 excellent bat.

Pros: my son prefers a balanced bat to hit with, he feels he has better bat control. Being 6'1" playing 14u, we went with a 34-31. Other kids on the team are using the end loaded Mako Beast which is a great bat also. This bat has great "Pop", a balanced feel but what my son likes the best, is there is minimum vibration (none) when hitting.

Cons: no issues yet. bats can be expensive, glad we found it here at justbats for a better value.

Chance C. player

Pros: This bat is absolutely amazing! I use this bat every game and it holds up well. The bat has a ridiculas amount of pop, even when not making solid contact with this bat the ball still explodes off the barrel. The grip is fabulous considering it is lizard skin, and the bat has a lot of speed. I love the look of the bat as well. The graphics are crisp and clean. Last, the bat has decent durability but my friends 917 has separated (the two pieces of the bat have separated). I would definitely recommend this bat to ANY player!

Cons: Over time the bat will show a bit of separating from the two parts of the bat, but there is a warranty for 12 months so it isn't much of a problem

Durability Issues S. Clark parent

Pros: Has a true wood bat feel, Lizard skin grip is nice, and my son loves to swing it. "It feels good". Fix the durability issues and the bat is great. I will say this bat has outlasted many Demarini bats I've seen in terms of barrel cracking.

Cons: My 10yr old swings the -5 version of this bat, he's had the bat since March of 2017, so he's only used it 3 months. I had to submit a warranty claim on the handle coming loose. The Tru3 Technology rubber piece is sliding down the handle. It also sounds like there is a little pebble inside the barrel rolling back and forth.

Breaks very quickly Domingo player

Pros: When the bat isn't broken it feels great and the ball launches off the bat.

Cons: Had the bat for a month at most until it broke. The barrel was disconnected from the handle and it can turn back and forth. Now every time i make contact it feels very weak and bendy. The bat simply doesnt last which is very disappointing because it could be a great bat if it didn't break so easily.

Meh Poo Bear player

Pros: Good balanced feel, lasts long for a composite bat, responsive and good feel at contact with virtually no vibration.

Cons: If the price tag werent 400 dollars, this would be a very good buy. However, considering the price tag and previous models, this bat was a bit of a disappointment. I used my friends for several practices and 6 or 7 games, so did several teammates, and it held up very well, but the pop was a huge disappointment compared to the 916 or 915. Even the 517, which I got later on, had more pop. I could see how a contact/line drive hitter would enjoy it, as it's capable of good exit speeds, but the ball seemed to just die when hit above a 25 degree launch angle. I only snuck one line drive over right field fence whereas I hit three with the 517 in about the same amount of games. Would be a solid bat for contact hitters with the reduced price tag, but not ideal for power hitters.

Overall pretty good bat Donovan Kerr player

Pros: Last year for club ball my friend bought this bat and I hit with it for 5 at-bats and I had 2 singles and a double with it along with a pop out and ground out. The bat had no vibration at all and was really durable considering that the team hit with it in the cage and on the field for around 3 months. It had decent pop but you had to break it in for a while.

Cons: The bats feel was not very good and the pop took time to get to its maximum. But the feel was what made me stop using the bat. I would hit the ball really well but the bat felt like it was dead. I guess I am someone who likes to feel the difference between a groundout off the end of the bat vs. a line drive to deep center field off of the barrel.

If I return my broken Prime 916 to Louisville will I have the option to get the Prime 917? croon
If your 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is defective and under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty then LS would replace this bat one time within that 12 month window. As for the bat that would be sent back to you, it would be the Prime 916 unless they do not have this bat in stock; at that point the 917 would be sent out for warranty replacement.
Cameron
What are the main differences between the 916 and 917? moose
There were minimal changes made from the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 to the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173, the biggest being the colorway change. The 917 will also feature a slightly lighter swing weight feel as well as improve connection point.
Cameron
What are the main differences between this bat and the DeMarini CF Insane? nc32
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 and the DeMarini Insane are both two-piece, fully composite bats. The main difference between the two is that the 917 is balanced while the Insane features an end-loaded swing weight.
Cameron
Why are there not college baseball players using the 915, 916, or 917? Nate45
College players will use the Prime models from LS. As for why some of the teams in the college World Series might not be using these bats, every player will have a difference preference. A one-piece bat will be stiffer and typically can offer slightly more power and some players just prefer the sound of an alloy bat which would be the 716 or 516 from LS.
Cameron
What will be the break-in period for this bat? TTTTTTTTTTT
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is pretty hot out of the wrapper. However, we feel that it will still benefit from about 50-100 swings. It is best to take these swings off a tee while rotating the barrel about a quarter turn every few swings.
Jason
Is this for sale? I don't see a button to buy it. Joe
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is not released yet. We did have a teaser launch earlier last month but the scheduled release date is August 15th.
Cooper
Is this bat for sale yet? Diego
Unfortunately, at the time of your question, we do not have this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) ready for purchase from JustBats. We should definitely have the bat ready for sale later this fall of 2017.
Ben
From the reviews I've read, it seems that a lot of customer's mentioned rotation on the Prime 916 model at the connection point. Do you know if that rotation will be present on the 917? Megan
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) will feature a connection point that has a Dynamic socket within it (this connection point will be pretty similar to what was featured on the Prime 916). That socket connection may display a small amount of rotation between the barrel and the handle portions of the bat at the connection point. However, that rotation should not affect the performance or durability of the bat for the player.
Ben
It is composite like the 2016 model? J
Yes, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is a composite bat.
Sean
What will the break-in period be for this bat? bobby
Sean
My baseball season doesn't start for 6 months and our team is still having practice. Should I use this bat starting now or should I wait until its season starts so it will have more pop? wesley
I would wait to use the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173, bats have a limited lifespan and using the bat for 6 months before the season starts will reduce the lifespan of the bat.
Sean
How does this bat compare to the 716 model? Jason
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight. The Select 716 is a two-piece hybrid with a slightly end loaded swing weight. Performance wise one is really not better than the other, but the Select 716 is usually better for power hitters because of the heavier feel.
Jason
My son just turned 15. He is 5'8" and 110 pounds. What size you would recommend? The 31" or 32" for 2017 season? Billy
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173.

My son is 16, 6' 1/2 " 215 lbs. What size 33 or 34? Kmh
Once you to get to the size that your son is it is really a lot of personal preference. He should be using whatever size is more comfortable to him. I recommend letting him swing a 33" and a 34" to see what is more comfortable before purchasing any bat.
Carter
My son is 5'6", 180 pounds, a good hitter and a sophomore. He is undecided between this bat and the DeMarini CF Insane end loaded BBCOR. What do you think about it? Ed
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) and the 2017 DeMarini CF Insane End Load BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCIC) are going to be pretty similar bats. The CF Insane is going to be end loaded, designed for more of a power hitter while the Prime is going to be balanced. Both are going to be extremely high quality bats and you really cannot go wrong with either of them.
Carter
Does this bat have a break in period? Mike
To properly break in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173), we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Begin swinging at 40% power and work our way up to full strength as you get closer to 200 swings.
Carter
Would this Louisville Slugger Prime 917 be a good bat for a 13 year old who is 105 pounds or would the MAKO Beast be better? Myles
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) would be a great option for a 13 year old.
Carter

The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 uses an upgraded TRU3 socket connection to make the bat more durable. The 2017 Prime 917 also uses a new composite material for better pop right out of the wrapper.

Based upon your height and weight, my general length suggestion for you would be to get a 32" or 33" option of this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173).
Ben
Is the bat as balanced as the SOLO 617 or is it more end-weighted? Justin
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) will be pretty balanced in its swing feel, but not quite as balanced feeling as the SOLO 617.
Ben
If I am 5'11'' and weigh 140-145 pounds, what bat length should I buy? Connor Baer
We would suggest a 32" model, although you can go up or down 1" depending upon your strength, how far/close you stand from the plate, etc.
Kyle J.
Out of the louisville 917, 617, and the 517, what bat this year will be the best overall? Connor Baer
It's impossible to say which model will perform the best as different players have different swing preferences. However, all three models should end up being high performing. The biggest difference is that the Prime 917 is a three-piece, composite design while the other two models are both on-piece alloy bats. The three piece design of the Prime 917 will give it a bit more flex in the swing than the one-piece construction of the 617 and 517.
Kyle J.
Son is 6'2" 190 lbs. What size bat should he use? Big Cat
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in a 34 inch 31 ounce model. A 33 inch bat would certainly be a good option as well.
Cameron
My son is 16, 6' tall, around 200 pounds, very strong upper body. What size bat would you recommend him using? Help
Based on your songs height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30oz 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173).
Carter
What would be better for a power hitter this bat or the 916? idk
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) is going to be exactly like the 916 except for the new and improved New MicroForm Composite and more durable TRU3 Connection. So between the two I would definitely go with the new 917.
Carter
Would you recommend this bat or the DeMarini CF Insane for a power hitter in high school? Nate
The 2017 DeMarini CF Insane End Load BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCIC) would be more ideal for a power hitter because it is end loaded.
Damon
What is Louisville Slugger's best or most popular end-loaded bat for a high school player? bballjunkie
Unfortunately, for 2017, Louisville Slugger did not build a BBCOR bat with an end-load. This 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) will have a balanced swing feel along with the Omaha 517 and the Solo 617.
Ben
Is this a good bat for power hitters? Martin Moloney
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is an excellent choice for both contact and power hitters.
John P.
Is there a significant difference from this 917 to last year's 916? If so what are the differences? JJ
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) will feature new cosmetics and a new TRU3 connection point with a Dynamic Socket Connection that should display increased durability on the bat. I would say that the Prime 917 should be an improved bat.
Ben
My son is 13, 6'0, athletic and 150 lb 8th grader. What size bat should I buy him, 32 or 33? steve baseball dad
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30 ounce 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173).
Carter
What is the difference between 3 piece composite vs 2 piece composite? Jeanne
They are pretty much the same. The third piece on the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) is going to be the connection piece in the middle. It is limit vibrations, so this three piece bat will have less vibration than a comparable two piece bat.
Carter
What length bat would you recommend for 6'1", 145 lbs. 15 year old? Jeanne
We advise going with a 32" 29 oz. 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 for a player in your size range.
Sean
Length bat I should order for 6'1" and 145 lbs? Jeanne

Carter
I am a freshman in high school, 5'7" and 145 lbs. Wanting a bat that will last long. Should I get a 31 or 32 inch model? Kyle
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in a 32 inch model. By the time you are a sophomore a 31 inch will more than likely be way too short. Also, the two-piece fully composite and balanced design of this bat will make swinging a 32 inch bat much easier.
Cameron
What do you believe is better? The DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR, or the Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR? Regina Filangi
Both of these bats are two-piece fully composite bats with balanced swing weights. Really a matter of personal preference as we have not seen any indication as to whether one of these bats is significantly better than the other.
Cameron
I heard they break easily. How do you return one for a new one? graham
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 comes with a full 12 months manufacturer's warranty. If this bat were to break within the warranty period then you would be able to send it back to LS for a one-time replacement for a new LS Prime 917.

Carter
I want to get this bat but I'm not sure what size I should get. I'm 5'11" and weigh 185 lbs. pj
We would recommend a 33" length, although you could use anything between 32"-34" depending on factors such as your strength, how far you stand from the plate, and other variables.
Kyle J.
In terms of pop, would you recommend the Louisville 916 or the new 917? Tyler
With the BBCOR certification, basically all bats are capped at the same BPF level. With that being said, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 and the 916 will have very similar "pop."
Logan
Will this bat be legal with the new rules coming next year? Jeremy
The new USABat standard being introduced in 2018 will have no effect on high school or college regulations, only youth. So yes, all BBCOR models will still be legal for use in high school and collegiate play.
Kyle J.
Does anyone know if this bat compares to the 716? My HS senior loves the 716 and it has been discontinued. Kevin
Yes, the Prime 917 compares favorably to the 716 in that they are both three-piece, hybrid designs and both have the TRU3 technology for slight movement between barrel and handle. The Prime 917 is a newer version, featuring their Fused Carbon Structure design.
Kyle J.
Is the wiggle in the 916 and 917 supposed to be about the same? Jake
Yes, both the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 feature the dynamic socket connection which allows for slight movement between the barrel and handle.
Sean
My son is 13, 6'6" tall and 141.5 pounds(on a good day). He's a 5-tool player, not including the screwdriver. He has great power, last year he hit 15 homers at Cooperstown and won the Home-run-Derby. What bat size do you suggest my son using? Proud Daddy
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173.

The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight.
Cameron
My son is 5'4'' and 130 pounds. What bat ratio do you think best fits him? Denise
Based on your son's height and weight, it would be best to get the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Cameron
Which bat would be better for power/durability: this bat, or the Cat 7 connect? Also what size bat for 5'9" and 180 pounds? TheChosenOne
The Prime 917 would be better suited to a contact hitter with its three-piece design allowing for more flex in the barrel during the swing rather than the two-piece of the Cat 7 Connect. For someone that size, we would recommend a 32-33" bat.
Kyle J.
I'm 6'3 and 175 lbs. What size bat should I use? Juan Pablo
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173.
Jason
Does this bat or the 2017 VELO have more pop? Parker
Both bats are going to perform very comparably. If you like a bat with more flex in the swing, go with the Prime 917 as it's a three-piece, composite bat. If you like a bat with a stiff feel, go with the Rawlings VELO since it's a one-piece.
Kyle J.

Cameron
Do we need to break it in? If so how many swings do you estimate, I already know the procedure to breaking them in I just need your opinion on how to break it in. Johnny Baseball
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 doesn't take long to break-in, generally 50-100 swings off a tee or soft toss with rotation between swings.
Logan
How is the durability on the 917 Prime? schuelk23
We have not heard any issues with the durability concerning the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173. The only concern consumers have been mentioning pertains to the TRU3 dynamic socket connection. This connection point allows for slight movement to help reduce vibration on off-centered hits. Other than that, the reviews we have been receiving are positive regarding durability and performance.
Cameron
I've had this bat for about 2.5 weeks now and its all broken in but the handle isn't supposed to rotate and make a noise is it? the chosen one
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is designed to have some movement with that connection piece.
Logan

I am 5'6",130 pounds and 15 years old. Do you think the 32 would be too heavy for me or is it alright? mason
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173, for a player of your height, weight and age, could potentially be too heavy for you. It would be tough to say without seeing and analyzing a swing though. You may want to reach out to your local coaches and get their input before going with an order for a potential bat.
Cameron

Based on your height and weight, I would suggest the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in the 31" 28 oz. size.
Logan
I am 16 years old, 150 lbs and 6'0". My dad says I should swing a 33" 30 oz, but for bat speed I think I should get a 32" 29 oz. What do you think? Zip
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 33" 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 as well. The idea is to swing the largest bat you can with great bat speed. In doing so, you get the most mass behind the ball resulting in greater distances. With all that being said, it's up to you, and what you are comfortable swinging.
Logan
What does 917 stand for? jonathan
Louisville Slugger has not told us exactly what 917 stands for, but the 17 stands for 2017 model as far as we know.
Kyle J.
If my handle turns a little bit and it feels like the barrel is gonna come off is that a bad thing or no? austin
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) features a Dynamic Socket Connection that Allows for Slight Movement Between Barrel & Handle. This is normal and not a bad thing.
Carter

No, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 features a balanced swing weight.
Jason
Had this bat not even 1 week and there are already loose particles floating around in the barrel. Will this diminish the performance of this bat? 18
That should not cause any performance issues, no. The particles are simply small pieces of adhesive that manufacturers use to seal the end cap onto the bat. They typically use excess glue to ensure the cap is secure, and sometimes that excess can break off during regular use and make the rattling sound.
Kyle J.
My son is 15 yrs old, 5'8" and 125 pounds and currently using the 517 at 31". Louisville's bat chart has him sized up for 32" to 33". What size would you recommend for the 917? Jay
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
What is the significance of the 3 piece and how would you compare this bat to the MAKO BEAST? njbaseball
The third piece of the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) is the TRU3 Connection point in the middle of the bat connecting the handle and the barrel. This piece is going to limit the vibrations of the bat and help with any sting you might get from getting jammed. That is going to be the main difference between this bat and the two piece 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17MK).
Carter
What is the warranty on this bat? THE LEGEND
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 features a full 12 month manufacturer's warranty through LS; essentially LS will replace this bat one time at no cost within 12 months from the date of purchase.
Cameron
Whenever I swing my Prime 917, I notice that the handle wiggles and turns. Is it supposed to do that? Some of my other friends on the team have it as well. I don't really notice it on their bats as much, but I am really concerned about the wiggle and turning movement on my handle. Will
The Prime 917 has a unique three-piece design for exceptional vibration dampening, and once the bats becomes broken-in well, the pieces will have a bit of play in them. This should not caused any performance issues. If it is causing a performance problem, then you can look into a warranty claim by clicking the "Returns" button on our site.
Kyle J.
Looking at this and the Solo. What is the main difference contact vs power wise between the two? graham
Both the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 and the Solo 617 are excellent bats from Louisville Slugger. The Prime 917 is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight and is a bat designed slightly better for a contact hitter while the Solo 617, one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight, is a bat suited for power. With that said, both bats are capable of being used by both contact and power hitters alike.
Cameron
I am 5'7'', 132 lbs and I am 13 years old. Should I get the 31 or 32 inch model? Nick S
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 in a 31''.
Tori
What temperature should this bat be used at? caleb
We recommend limiting the use of any bat at temperatures below 55 degrees. If it is a practice and the temp is below 55 degrees, refrain from using the bat at all. However, if it is a game and the temp is below 55 degrees, you can use the bat, but limit the use to just one player.
Ben
My son 15 almost 6 feet and weighs 175. He has a DeMarini Voodoo Overlord (end loaded) in a 33" but he is popping up so thinks it may be too end loaded. He hits a lot of doubles so would you recommend this bat for him and in a 32" or 33"? Drew
Based on his height and weight I would probably recommend a 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) in the 33"/30 ounce size. It is more balanced than the Overlord so it will feel lighter. If you think he needs more than just a balanced bat through you could go down to the 32"/29 ounce size.
Carter
What size bat does my son need? My son is 13 years, 5'7" and 110 lbs, but plays 14U Travel. Jaydog
Based on your players height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173.
Jason

Cameron
Does this bat swing like the 517? dinger
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 will not have the same swing weight feel as the Omaha 517. Although both bats are balanced they will more than likely feel different from one player to the next.

Is this the newer version of the 716? Been looking for a new 716 but they are difficult to find. DHCowser
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is the new version of the 916, and is a fully composite bat. The Select 716 features an alloy barrel and a composite handle. Louisville Slugger didn't make the Select 716 in a 2017 model, so those are pretty difficult to find.

What size bat does my son need? He is 14 years old, 15 in September. 6'1" and 155 lbs. (and growing everyday!) He hit a homerun with a friend's 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 32 inch and he thinks that is the proper size for him. Is that correct? Walkoff 2015
The 32'' 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 will work well for your son. Although due to his height, weight and growth a 33'' Louisville Slugger Prime 917 would be a fit for your son in the future.
Max
My son currently swings a Louisville 716 Select 32" -5 and loves it. He is going into high school next year and needs a BBCOR. I didn't see a 716 Select model for 2017, so is this bat the most comparable 2017 Louisville bat out there? DJ
Unfortunately Louisville Slugger did not make a 2017 version of the 716. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) would be the most similar Louisville Slugger version to the 716 from last year. Cooper
I am currently a sophomore, but will soon be a junior. I swing a 32". I am just wondering if I should get a 33" in case I grow? Or should I stick with a 32"? Gonzo man
To be safe, I might suggest going with the longer 33" length of this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) in case you do grow (having a longer is better than a shorter bat as you can choke up on larger bats). However, if you feel confident that you will continue to want to use that 32" regardless of growth, I would stick with that size.
Ben

I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs, but I am going to grow a lot over this next year. Should I get a 33" or a 32"? Carter
Based on your current height and weight, we suggest a 32" model of the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173. You are not far off from a 33" model though, so if you are comfortable you can bump up a size.
Jason
Hi, I am 5'6" tall and 130 pounds. Going into my sophomore year of high school. Currently swing a 31 inch but thinking I should get 32 inch for next year. What are your thoughts? Ry
We would recommend a 31" length for someone your size. However, you always want to swing the heaviest bat that you can handle. If you can handle a 32" size and perform with it, I would recommend that.
Kyle J.
I got this bat this past Wednesday and I noticed when i was swinging that the handle would twist. I asked my friends about it and they said it happened to them but not as quick. What should I do? Or is this normal? Schultzy
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 does have that feature on the bat that will allow some twisting in the handle. It can take some time to break in almost.

What is the barrel length for this bat? brandoc3
The barrel length on this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) is not listed by the manufacturer. However, the bat features a solid barrel length that should allow for good sized sweet spot on the bat.
Ben
I am a freshman in high school and never tried BBCOR before. Isn't it true that a composite bat like this can easily be broken? wong
Bats like this 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) that are made of composite material can break down (but not more so than aluminum bats). However, the two types of materials for bats (composite and aluminum) break down differently. Composite bats like this Prime 917 crack while aluminum material bats dent. I typically see the most durability issues arise due to using the bats in cold weather. When the temperature sinks below 55 degrees, the ball becomes denser and has the ability to damage the barrel walls of the bat. If a player is participating in a practice that is being held in conditions with a temperature below 55 degrees, we would recommend using an older model bat that will no longer be used for games. If a game is being held in conditions below 55 degrees we would recommend taking pre-game batting practice with a non-game model bat and then only using the top bat in the actual game.
Ben

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
