Pros: "It's poppin'!" Son plays HS Varsity. says he's never had a bat this good before. highly recommended.
Cons: Needed to re-grip after several uses.
Join the Bomb Squad Tom Burnsie player
Pros: Hands down the hottest bat of 2017...so far! Really loving this thing and the way it feels. Super forgiving on mishits and it seems to have an even larger sweet spot than last years model. I will continue to drop bombs with the Prime 917 just like I did with my 916. The custom lizard skin grip is sick! I think it feels and looks better than any other lizard skin you can buy off the shelf. Slugger is on top of their game!
Cons: absolutely nothing. my last years model did break eventually, but the return process was faster than any other company i have dealt with. Things break, but slugger will take care of you!
GREAT BBCOR BAT..... Bat Dad parent
Pros: POP! BALANCE! SPEED! LARGE SWEET SPOT!! Definitely has a very nice 'Crack' sound and the ball flies off into the distance. Get it! I believe anyone would be very pleased with this bat.
Cons: NONE SO FAR
BEST BAT ON THE MARKET Will King player
Pros: Great feel to it, ball jumps off the bat. Great bat for power hitters and contact hitters. Grip feels amazing, doesn't feel like ordinary lizard skin. Huge upgrade with the tru-3 connection piece. Not as much flex as the 916, which I like. With amazing contact you wont hear a thing, but feels amazing coming off the bat. If you want a balanced bat with he most pop you have ever experienced, buy the Louisville 917.
Cons: Very slight rattling but maybe I'm just paranoid from the 916 issues. Grip is already starting to come off a little, had it for a month.
5 out of 5 Joe player
Pros: This is a hot bat! The new composite material sounds awesome and gives great pop. Very balanced as well.
Cons: The Lizard Skin grip is starting to fall off but I can always buy a new one.
Got the bat today and handel already twisted Alex player
Pros: balance was good until it broke after about 50 swings
Cons: broke after 50 swings heard they fixed the handle from 916 but this one did same thing
great!!!!!! wesley flowers player
Pros: its feels awesome when you swing it! and it hits soo good it has so much pop!
Cons: nothing
Great Bat Jballs player
Pros: This bat has a great feel when you make contact, along with that, the sound is just sweet just like everything else with this bat. Really enjoying this bat!
Cons: none at all
WARNING jonny baseball player
Pros: Great pop balanced
Cons: These bats are not durable! They flex too much and break. Barrel loosens from handle and twists. Dont waste time with returning the bat it will only break again anyways.
Good bat levron james player
Pros: Pop feel sound barrel
Cons: none
prime 917 michael player
Pros: its a good bat
Cons: does not have enough pop
Very dissapointed Bryan player
Pros: Good pop...if you hit it perfect on the sweet spot.
Cons: Badly constructed as was last years model and both broke for me. Would 100% say do not get
Louisville Has the Best BBCOR Bats Brock player
Pros: This is by far the best bat that you can buy for BBCOR. It has great pop and feels balanced in your hands. There is zero vibration and is better for guys who have power. Louisville has the best line of BBCOR on the market too. The 917 is my favorite, but i also really like the 517. That bat does not contain as much power as the 917, but still is great. Get the 917 if you are willing to spend double the price, but if you like aluminum bats better, the 517 is the better buy.
Cons: I gave the durability category a 3 because the "barrel twisting" thing that Louisville was supposed to fix on this model is not fixed. It does not affect the player or the swing, but some people did not like that in the previous models.
thought they fixed the twist but guess not william player
Pros: great pop, love the grip
Cons: handle twist and is very annoying
Lousville 917 Sam M. player
Pros: even weight nice pop awesome design lizard skin is comfortable great for all swings
Cons: havent found anything i dislike so far
louisville sluggar prime 917 Edward player
Pros: It is a really nice bat.
Cons: Just got it 3 weeks ago and know it slips in and out when you swing. I called and was told to send it in and would be two weeks before they could tell if would be warranted. I was told that there warranty was the best, noy of you have to wait tjat long.
Not Durable AZ OZ parent
Pros: Descent pop if you can keep the barrel from loosening or twisting. I'm getting ready to send my 2nd bat in a month
Cons: Bat breaks with twisting barrel or loose barrel and handle. Its a good bat when not broke. I wouldnt recommend this bat unfortunately.
Happy Son Johnny Morris of Bay Minette, Al parent
Pros: My son has used the bat for 3 weeks. He is in love with the bat. Awesome pop, a balance and a smooth swing. Very little vibration when hitting outside the sweet spot. All the guys on the team are asking him if they can hit with it. Very happy son.
Cons: No cons at this time
Bat breaks way too easy James player
Pros: Great pop and feel
Cons: I've had 2 of these. 1 broke after a month and a half of using and started rattling. I got second one and used it for 3 days and now the 3 piece is falling down when I swing. I take great care of the bat but just not durable.
recomend it Ryan player
Pros: -balanced -mega pop -squares up balls easily
Cons: 2 weeks in the grip broke feels like barrel twists sometimes
comp last years greg parent
Pros: great pop great looking nice balance kid loves it , overall we will stick to 916 an 516 niobium's need to waste funds on bat with only little to no upgrades then more bend . will say sluggers are top bat 100% .easton mako was his thing till he got a hold or 916 an never put it down
Cons: he said has to much sway to it ,feels like bending to much
Big time Big tyne Cole player
Pros: Awesome pop, good for hittin bombs, love the feel, good for bat flips, Domingo Ayala would approve, big tyne bat
Cons: None my dude
917 Collin H player
Pros: Good pop when i first got it. Good balance and grip.
Cons: After about a month the barrel was twisting and the three piece came unglued and could slide down the handle. wouldn't get the bat because of the durability.
Endloaded Zach Landry player
Pros: I am a big fan of the 916 and it did me well last year but as soon I picked this bat up it immediately felt more end loaded. Which really disappointed me.
Cons: Endloaded
bang for your buck tyson nation player
Pros: its a great bat when you first swing it feels like you slice through the air i know its scary buying bats before the season because you dont know whats hot or not but this bat is the way to go i was a hard core easton guy but all i can say is once you go slugger you'll never go back and thats a fact
Cons: none
great bat Frankie29 player
Pros: great pop, big sweet spot, balanced, low vibration, great all around
Cons: has a little bit of "wiggle" in the barrel and the handle.
great bat John player
Pros: Pop is amazing. Great feeling on contact. Awesome sound when you hit the ball.
Cons: none
GARBAGE Joe Murdock player
Pros: NONE
Cons: i bought the 2016 bat and almost imedietley the barrel felt loose where it connected to the handle (it would twist and shake) so of course i sent the bat in with the warranty and they sent me the 2017 model. But guess what happened. THE SAME THING. when you swing the bat the barrel feels like its going to fly off the handel. like its not connected very well. I alreay used the warranty so now what am i supposed to do? Also im 17 years old and had to work hard for all that money. This bat is a joke. I wouldnt even recommend it to my worst enemy.
Broken Bat Patches parent
Pros: >>>> To be determined Only used the bat 2 games
Cons: The bat broke after 4 at bats. The middle piece came loose.
Best Bat On The Market wfd9211 parent
Pros: Balanced, Great Pop Great all around bat. Sound like hitting with wooden bat.
Cons: Wish they would of had this bat out sooner.
awesome bat Tyler Landis player
Pros: everything is great on this bat
Cons: none
Improvement From Last Year Darius player
Pros: -Amazing vibration reduction -Great pop on the sweet spot -Off center hits still jump off the bat fairly well (compared to some BBCORs where the ball goes literally nowhere if you don't hit it on the sweet spot) -Nice minimalistic/simple but slick design -Grip is no too thick or thin -Tapered handle, and knob is pretty comfortable
Cons: -Paint chipped after overtime use (but that's every bat) -In my opinion, this bat feels ever so SLIGHTLY heavier than last years model, but all the pros of this bat overturn this con because it is truly great.
Best Bat So Far Steven player
Pros: The pop of this bat is truly an experience of its own. I have hit over 1000 baseballs at full power, and have only received 2 noticeable scratches. There is almost no vibration and sting to the hands when you're jammed inside with a ball either.
Cons: The only thing that I can say is a con, is the grip. The Lizard Skin grip has an amazing feel, but batting gloves are recommended when swinging this bat to unlock the true power of your swing.
Piece of junk Just player
Pros: Had good pop while it lasted...
Cons: Broke after about a week
Louisville 917 Noah player
Pros: This is one of the best bbcor bats I've had in a long time. If your a skinny guy who has trouble hitting the ball far i definitely recommend this bat. Im i little dude but this bat had great pop and helped me hit the ball far.
Cons: Something happened to my bat and the handle started twisting a little bit and the end felt like it was going to fly off.
JONNIE ROCKET! Rich Iula parent
Pros: Bought this bat for my son Jon who plays on the HS Varsity team. 1st game he went 2-3, 2nd game crushed a 300+ ft HR then next game a 400+ ft HR! Light weight to generate great bat speed with TREMENDOUS POP! Well worth the money and my son is happy!
Cons: Now everyone wants to use his bat!
Incredible Lance player
Pros: I have never been a fan of 3 piece bats, until now... The last non one piece bat I had was the demarini cf 6 and I wasn't very happy with that. I also have never had a bad one piece bat so I was skeptical to use this. This bat blew me away. I had incredible bat speed, the bat felt great in my hands with the built in lizard skin grip. The bat had unbelievable pop and the ball was jumping off the bat. 10/10 excellent bat.
Cons: Literally none
buy it 13 year old player
Pros: it looks way better in person i got a 33 and it feels just like my previous 32 weight wise very balanced. a ton of pop, and lizard skins grip
Cons: i dont use batting gloves and my hands tend to slip off lizard skin but no cons at all to the bat
great bat mason player
Pros: a ton of pop... and easy to swing a 33 for a 5'9" 138 lb 13 year old. sounds just like a wood bat and feels very light and balanced. lizard skin is another great add on
Cons: none
great bat Lloyd Nickel parent
Pros: my son prefers a balanced bat to hit with, he feels he has better bat control. Being 6'1" playing 14u, we went with a 34-31. Other kids on the team are using the end loaded Mako Beast which is a great bat also. This bat has great "Pop", a balanced feel but what my son likes the best, is there is minimum vibration (none) when hitting.
Cons: no issues yet. bats can be expensive, glad we found it here at justbats for a better value.
Chance C. player
Pros: This bat is absolutely amazing! I use this bat every game and it holds up well. The bat has a ridiculas amount of pop, even when not making solid contact with this bat the ball still explodes off the barrel. The grip is fabulous considering it is lizard skin, and the bat has a lot of speed. I love the look of the bat as well. The graphics are crisp and clean. Last, the bat has decent durability but my friends 917 has separated (the two pieces of the bat have separated). I would definitely recommend this bat to ANY player!
Cons: Over time the bat will show a bit of separating from the two parts of the bat, but there is a warranty for 12 months so it isn't much of a problem
Durability Issues S. Clark parent
Pros: Has a true wood bat feel, Lizard skin grip is nice, and my son loves to swing it. "It feels good". Fix the durability issues and the bat is great. I will say this bat has outlasted many Demarini bats I've seen in terms of barrel cracking.
Cons: My 10yr old swings the -5 version of this bat, he's had the bat since March of 2017, so he's only used it 3 months. I had to submit a warranty claim on the handle coming loose. The Tru3 Technology rubber piece is sliding down the handle. It also sounds like there is a little pebble inside the barrel rolling back and forth.
Great bat 917 Sam 8 player
Pros: Feels great and has excellent pop.
Cons: Seems to be better for stronger players.
Breaks very quickly Domingo player
Pros: When the bat isn't broken it feels great and the ball launches off the bat.
Cons: Had the bat for a month at most until it broke. The barrel was disconnected from the handle and it can turn back and forth. Now every time i make contact it feels very weak and bendy. The bat simply doesnt last which is very disappointing because it could be a great bat if it didn't break so easily.
great bat jayden 4 player
Pros: great grip has lots of pop compared to other bat
Cons: none
Meh Poo Bear player
Pros: Good balanced feel, lasts long for a composite bat, responsive and good feel at contact with virtually no vibration.
Cons: If the price tag werent 400 dollars, this would be a very good buy. However, considering the price tag and previous models, this bat was a bit of a disappointment. I used my friends for several practices and 6 or 7 games, so did several teammates, and it held up very well, but the pop was a huge disappointment compared to the 916 or 915. Even the 517, which I got later on, had more pop. I could see how a contact/line drive hitter would enjoy it, as it's capable of good exit speeds, but the ball seemed to just die when hit above a 25 degree launch angle. I only snuck one line drive over right field fence whereas I hit three with the 517 in about the same amount of games. Would be a solid bat for contact hitters with the reduced price tag, but not ideal for power hitters.
hottest become ever Hayden player
Pros: I love this bat almost everything about it was amazing I and 13 and still growing got this in a 31 28 overall great bat
Cons: at first I was not sure if it was going to be to heavy but I got it any way its a little end loaded and I did not use I my first tourney because we were playing 14u and pitching was fast so I used the zen but now since the prime is broken in it is way better than my zen and I have no problems hitting with it
917 Jake Spegal player
Pros: Everything
Cons: None
Insane Adam player
Pros: Great pop, good grip, and nice feel,
Cons: Non
Wow Matthew player
Pros: The louisville slugger prime 917 is a great bbcor bat and might be the best. This bat has tremendous pop and the ball will go further than you think you can. I'm 14 years old in my first year of using bbcor bats and im glad i got the prime.
Cons: Bat takes a while to break in like 1 1/2 - 3 months
loved the bat but it didnt last long adam19 player
Pros: great pop, no vibration, and you will know when you hit it just right because it has a distinct sound
Cons: had the bat for 2 months and the middle piece seperated from the handle
toprank
Pros: Good pop first 2 weeks then bat sucks, do not waste your money and they will not replace it...
Cons: Bat twists, Flawed design that is the same year after year, over priced and bat looses pop within first month BBCOR model does. They will not honor their warranty and someone even has a lawsuit against them.
Overall pretty good bat Donovan Kerr player
Pros: Last year for club ball my friend bought this bat and I hit with it for 5 at-bats and I had 2 singles and a double with it along with a pop out and ground out. The bat had no vibration at all and was really durable considering that the team hit with it in the cage and on the field for around 3 months. It had decent pop but you had to break it in for a while.
Cons: The bats feel was not very good and the pop took time to get to its maximum. But the feel was what made me stop using the bat. I would hit the ball really well but the bat felt like it was dead. I guess I am someone who likes to feel the difference between a groundout off the end of the bat vs. a line drive to deep center field off of the barrel.
Great bat Bye Dinger Boom player

Cons: Nothing

About the Brand
In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
