Pros:  I just bought this bat last week and my daughter used it Saturday for the first time.... Straight out of the plastic first pitch, first swing, and it was a over the fence home run. Her first ever home run. Needless to say we love this bat!

Cons:  None so far!

Pros:  It does swing light

Cons:  Demarini has more pop, zero imagination with the graphics, it's like they just gave up on the quality of graphics , Consider the Demarini they look better and have more pop.

Pros:  The bat appearance, weight / general feel and pop are all very good

Cons:  Quality concerns - I am returning after only 3 weekends of use. The plastic tape securing the grip began to unravel during the FIRST weekend of use. We put some athletic tape around to keep that in check only to have the actual grip begin to separate at the overlaps, discolor and begin to fray during the 2nd weekend of use - only to get very bad by 3rd weekend of use. The Grip is VERY POOR and not at all what I would expect for $350. Put another way, our 2015 LXT grip after 2 years of use is in better shape than the grip on our 3-week old bat.

Pros:  good bat has given my daughter 10 extra feet on each swing. Good pop out of the wrapper has gotten better after a few games and t swings as the wrapper says 25 swings and rotate the bat and loosen the composite fibers. Prior to this she had a 2014 xeno. The difference in these bats is that the is no vibration in the LXT.

Cons:  none so far

Pros:  waited a few weeks before giving review ... long user of Easton Mako bats and finally decided to give Louisville LXT a try. Love its pop right out of wrapping. great balance. definitely seeing greater distance on hits! Keeping fingers crossed for giving durability a 5 for now.

Cons:  definitely agree with others regarding bat's grip - could have been made better for $350! otherwise happy with purchase.

Pros:  Has a lot more pop than her 2016 Xeno. She says it feels more solid on ball contact. Swings light, we went up 1 oz. size and she said she could hardly notice any weight difference.

Cons:  Had to put a new Lizzard Skin grip on it after 2 weeks. (Cheap factory bat grip). Took about 200-300 soft toss pitches to Really break it in, ** My major gripe is the big MADE IN CHINA stamp on it ** If I would have known where it was made; I would have never bought it . I thought I was buying an American Made product.

Pros:  Every game we play all we see are LXT and Xeno bats...for three years our team has been buying these bats and everyone is now pursuing college scholarships...Most of my team prefers the LXT, but the Xeno is solid as well

Cons:  Our Pitchers don't like seeing them come up on all the opposing hitters every AB because the ball rockets around the field if they don't hit their spots

Pros:  After breaking it in had really good pop. was a great bat while i had it.

Cons:  It took about two months to break it in, a couple weeks ago the handle started moving and then just two days ago the indide of the barrel broke and you can hear bits and peices of the inside of the bat moving. It was my second bat this year after breaking the 2016 lxt in just weaks, wouldn't recommoned it.

Pros:  Great Bat. She has the DeMarini CF9 and that's a great bat as well, but the Hyper took her hitting to a new level... my wife is a big DeMarini fan but she had to bow down to the old slugger as my daughter was swinging 2014 Xeno.. anyway. great pop, further distance, well balanced..

Cons:  I changed the grips to lizzard skin for a better feel because the handle is pretty slick.. actually I've put it on her DeMarini as well and her Xeno for better grip and more cushion..

Pros:  Bought this bat for my daughter, which plays varsity, she will be taking this bat with her to college, she does not know why we didnt get her this brand of bat from the start...this bat comes out of the plastic hot, grip is good and she says who cares about the graphics lol. I will definently recommend this bat to anyone who wants to have a bat that has a ton of pop, how hard the ball is hit is up to the individual swinging the bat, this bat does make a big difference!!!

Pros:  Well, My daughter say's she loves this bat, that it feels real good. I can tell. She hasn't hit one over yet but it's coming. The bat has made her placement hitting so much better and defiantly harder hit balls. I can tell her confidence has risen due to the feel of the bat. To me, the balance is perfect and the sound of a good hit is clear, it doesn't sound like a doubled up piece of pipe when she drives the ball. Sounds more like a solid car wreck. So far, we are completely satisfied with it. Time will tell on Durability.

Pros:  Junior daughter making contact but ball just not jumping off older composite c6. Play time dropping due to average. Picked up a demo LXT to try out - 2nd at bat against good pitcher took a 3-2 pitch deep over center field fence. Swing was always there but the bat pop has been missing. I’ll doubt she’ll let me return that bat.

Cons:  I’ll let you know - heard there are durability issues but only 2 AB’s on the charts.

Pros:  I like the previous reviewer am a coach. We have had a multitude of bats over the years. We have had Demarini, Combat, Easton Mako's and by far the LXT is the best bat on the market today. The old orange and black CF5 DeMarini was the only bat we have had that came close to the pop the LXT has We started three years ago doing away with the other bats and only use LXT bats now. We have never had an issue with a bat in three years of using the LXT brand

Cons:  starting last year the grip was slick But that's an easy fix I would not call it a con. People get hung up on the decals and the fluff. Bats are tools, and LXT is a great tool to have.

Pros:  My daughter and I attended a LSU camp back in January of 2017 and was amazed at the sounds radiating all around the stadium during batting practice. We quickly realized that it was the sounds of the LXT. We were using a DeMarini at the time which didnt sound like what we were hearing when it was her turn to bat. The pop off the LXT was something incredible and we both knew that we were going to invest in that bat when we got back to the north. Funny thing is that many people don't swing Louisville up here and her first high school practice with it came with "is that a legal bat". But she loves it so far and rocked a double in her first varsity softball game. But as far as durability, I gave it a 5 because of its feel and structure but only time will tell. I never do reviews so please take my experience serious and get this bat. It will definitely give your child more confidence in her swing and power in the flight of the ball.

Cons:  none yet.

What is the difference between the 2017 LXT and the 2018 LXT?

The 2018 Louisville Slugger LXT -10 Fastpitch Softball Bat: WTLFPLX18A10 features a new end cap that helps increase the swing speed and lengthen the barrel when compared to the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170. What size would be the best for my 14 year old daughter who is 5'3 and 150 pounds? Also, what is the difference between the LXT and the XENO?

Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170. The LXT features a three piece design, with the TRU3 Piece Connection for improved feel, and is slightly more balanced than the XENO which features a more traditional two piece design.

My daughter is 18 yrs old 5'-3" high school senior playing Varsity ball. Singles hitter with 'Pop'. She has broke the past two Zeno bats and we are thinking about changing to the LXT. What length bat and which drop weight do you recommend?

Based on your player's height, I would suggest a 32" 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170. It's difficult for us to determine a weight, as we are unable to see the player's swing. That would be a better question to ask a coach, but a -10 such as the bat above, would be a good general suggestion.

We are thinking of a LXT or a XENO in the 32"/22 oz or 32"/21 oz size. I have read that the Easton bats tend to be a bit heavier. What would you recommend and what size?

What is the difference between LXT and XENO besides just the construction? Is there a performance difference?

The main difference between the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN170 is the three-piece design of the LXT whereas the XENO has a two-piece design. What this allows the LXT is additional flex (more vibration reduction), more balanced swing weight feel and a slightly larger sweet spot when compared to the XENO.

My daughter is 14, in 9th grade, and playing for the varsity high school team and with her 16u select team. She is 5'9" and 135 lbs; pure athlete. She is a power hitter. She has been using DeMarini -10 33/23 for the last couple of years. She is looking to make the switch to LS, and we have been comparing XENO and the LXT Hyper -10. Which bat would you recommend for my daughter with her switch, and why?

I would recommend the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) for your daughter. This and the Xeno are very similar. The Xeno is a two piece bat while this one is a 3 piece option. The TRU3 Connection piece is going to limit vibrations for her and offer a better feel over the Xeno.

Will it be ok to use these bats on a pitching machine? I've heard 2 different sides. Also does this bat have to be broken in?

As long as the pitching machine is using real softballs than the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 will be fine. Since it is a composite bat we recommend about 150-200 hits with a quarter turn after each hit to break in the bat.

Sean Expert
133524 Click to show/hide answer

Would you recommend on the LXT the drop 10 or the drop 11 for a high school freshman? Right now she uses the 2016 LXT 33" drop 11.

The correct drop to get a player will depend on the weight of the bat one is currently using and how well the player is capable of handling this bat/weight. Ideally, when a player gets into high school a drop 10 would be a better long term fit but for some players who are FR they might still need to swing a drop 11. We would recommend consulting with the player's coaches who know her swing to get a better feel for the proper drop to swing.

My daughter is 14 and weighs 115 pounds and is 4'5". She has always used a DeMarini and she wants a Louisville. I do not want a slapper bat and not sure which bat is what I need. Do I need the 2017 LXT or Xeno?

Both the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) and the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN170) are going to be very comparable bats. Neither of them are going to be a slapper bat. The main difference is the LXT is a three piece bat with a connection piece to limit vibrations while the Xeno is a two piece option. I would recommend the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) in the 31"/21 ounce version.

I have a 14-year-old daughter that is currently hitting last year's Combat, one-piece (33"/23 oz). Previously had a XENO 32". With the Combat, her swing is late and she is hitting a lot of foul balls. We are considering going back to the 32". What bat would you recommend: the LXT or the XENO?

Overall, this 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) features more technology than the XENO as it has the TRU-3 Connection point that limits the vibration that gets down to a player's hands on a miss-hit and allows for more barrel flex at contact. Besides those things and the cosmetics, the bats will be essentially the same. Since she has already swung a XENO and done well, I would recommend another XENO.

Ben Expert
131406 Click to show/hide answer

My daughter has expressed interest in switching to the new XENO or LXT (from the DeMarini CF Series) and I want to know what the barrel length is on both bats? Also, in your opinion which bat's construction would be better suited to a slap hitter?

When comparing both a 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) and a 2017 XENO (-10), both of these bats will have a barrel length (end-cap to connection point) around 15.5". The LXT may have a slight advantage in the length, but it will be pretty minuscule. Overall, neither bat will inherently be the better bat for a slap hitter. However, the LXT features a more advanced connection point that limits the vibration on miss-hits and allows for more flex at contact. As well, the XENO's connection point won't limit as much vibration, but it will allow for a stiffer feel at connection with the ball. The decision on a bat may come down to the connection point you prefer most. between the two bats.

The Xeno and the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 are essentially the same bat (besides an update in the composite material), but the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 features the New Improved TRU3 Three-Piece Connection Piece which will decrease the vibration felt in the hands.

What is the difference between this bat and the XENO Plus FPXN170?

The 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 has a three-piece construction that allows for additional barrel flex to maximize power. The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN170 has a two-piece construction that creates a more stiff connection for maximum energy transfer.

What size bat would I get my daughter who is 5'2" and 120 lbs?

Based on your daughters height and weight we would recommend getting a 32"/22oz bat. You could also go to a 32"/21oz if you felt that a -10 might be a little bit too heavy for her.

Within 2 weeks of purchasing bat it has a twist at barrel and handle junction. I have heard that this is normal and that it is not normal both from LS reps. Who is telling the truth? If it is supposed to have some give where do I direct the umpire that wants to throw it out?

The 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 features TRU3 - dynamic socket connection that allows for slight movement between barrel & handle. Louisville Slugger constructed the connection point in such a way to help reduce vibration from off-centered hits. For umpires that are not familiar with the construction of the bat, we would recommend either looking on our site or giving LS a call to discuss this feature.

My daughter is a slapper. She broke her 31"/20 oz size option of the CF8. Need to get replacement quickly. I have heard really good things about the LXT having the best performance. However, DeMarini has the CF9 Slapper with a 14" barrel (claiming it is easier to control). (1) What is the barrel length on the LXT? (2) Any comments or comparison notes on the LXT Hyper (-11) vs. the CF9 slapper (-10)?

(1) The barrel length on the LXT models like this 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) will be close to 13" in length. (2) If you were to statically weigh a model of the FPLX171 and a CF9 Slapper of the same length, the LXT would technically be the lighter weighing bat (there may be a shot that the CF9 Slapper could feel the same or lighter while swinging due to the low M.O.I.). As well, LXTs are very well balanced bats and even though the Slapper is more designed for the manner in which your daughter hits, the LXT would definitely meet what she would need for a slap hitter.

What is the difference between the LXT hyper and the LXT plus?

The main difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX160 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 is the New Improved TRU3 Three-Piece Connection which offers Better Feel & Increased Durability.

I recently have been using the 2016 XENO, would this be a better bat to move up to?

The 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) is going to be a three-piece bat versus the XENO being two-piece. Both bats are excellent and would really come down to personal preference.

What is the difference between the FPLX170 and FPLX171 bats?

The only difference between the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 and the FPLX171 is going to be the length to weight ratio. So the FPLX170 has a -10 and the FPLX171 has a -11 length to weight ratio.

How many hits are these bats good for? When should we look at getting a new bat? We have the 2016 model and it has been through 1 3/4 seasons.

It is tough to say how many hits or seasons one would get from the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170, or any other bat for that matter, as there are too many variables (weather, where the ball is hit, how much the bat is being used day-to-day, etc).

Does the 2017 LXT make the same sound at contact as it did when it used the S1iD barrel technology?

The sound of the ball making contact with this 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) should be very similar to the sound that was made when making contact with the 2016 LXT Plus which featured the S1iD Barrel Technology.

Currently there are several bats banned by ASA. Any thoughts on this bat somehow being put on that list?

Although I cannot make any guarantees, I have a very difficult time seeing this 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) being a part of a list of bats that will be banned for use in ASA leagues. Slugger has been making the LXTs for a number of years and they always seem to pass the requirements for use under ASA sanctions.

What is the difference between the 2016 LXT and the 2017 LXT?

The upgrades that are featured on this 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPLX170) are the PBF Barrel Technology (allows for larger sweet spot and power) and improved TRU3 connection (allows for better feel and durability). Besides those features and the cosmetics, the 2016 and 2017 models will be very similar overall.

What is the difference between the LXT Hyper and the XENO Plus?

The 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX170 and 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus are both well-balanced composite bats. The LXT Hyper is lighter swinging than the XENO Plus and and features Slugger's PBF Barrel Technology (Performance Barrel-Flex) system that creates a larger sweet spot & max trampoline.

Louisville Slugger

Louisville Slugger is the Official Bat of Major League Baseball and the #1 name in baseball since the earliest days of the sport. Back in the 1880s, Bud was working at his father's woodworking shop in Louisville, Kentucky. Legend has it that Bud, a lover of baseball and a player himself, slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch Louisville's major league team, the Louisville Eclipse.
