Pros: My son broke his old Combat after 3 years of use. He had pretty much outgrown the old bat so we made the switch. Combat Vigor has plenty of pop, appears to be just as durable and is extremely well balanced. My kid loves the bat and is very happy with its performance.
Cons: Bat isn't hot out of the wrapper. It takes a little time to break in. Patience is the key here. As you break the bat in, ensure you rotate the bat about 270 degrees. We did this over a total of three hours of hitting, spread across three days. Bat is ready to rock and roll!
Pros: This bat has pop even while you are breaking it in. It gets hot after about 500-600 hits and I mean hot. The ball explodes off this bad. About 1000 to 1100 hits in and it is unreal what this bat can produce. The price is fantastic. Was just looking for a drop 5 bat fast and cheap to get through a summer and got one of the best bats I have ever purchased. Can buy 4 of these bats compared to 1 bat of other manufactures.
Cons: No cons so far. Son has had no stinging yet.
Pros: The ball comes off this Bat like no othet i saw we buy alot of bats.Out standing bat excellent . Fir the price you will never beat it. it super well balance. it a drop 5 you cant twll it IT GET A 10 from us . my son Brad Fox says 3 times hitting with it over 15 home runs and alit off the top of the fense thanks . What is the difference between this and 2018 Maxum as far as swing speed and pop?
Asked by php
The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) and the 2018 COMBAT MAXUM -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL8MX105) are going to be very comparable in swing speed and performance. The Maxum is going to be a little bit more balanced so it will feature a little bit quicker swing speed than the Vigor through. The biggest difference between these two bats is going to be the barrel length of the Maxum is quite a bit longer than the Vigor.
What are the differences between the 2016 and 2017 COMBAT Vigor -5?
Asked by Gib Gibson
The 2016 and 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL105 are made of the same materials, have the same barrel construction and grip tape, and have very similar feel on contact. I wouldn't say there's any outstanding distinguishing factor between the two.
My son is 5'3" tall and weighs 115 pounds. He plays in the 13-15 year old group. Need a -5 bat. (1) What bat size would you recommend? (2) Do you prefer composite over aluminum?
Asked by baseball dad
(1) Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a recommendation of getting a 31" bat as long as you can handle the subsequent 26 oz weight. This 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: (VG2SL105) is currently available in that size and I would recommend it highly for you. (2) Overall, composite and aluminum BBCOR bats really have the same potential for performance despite the price difference. The decision between the materials should come down to your preference as a player.

My son is in in 6th grade and borrowing a -5 bat this season. Looking for a bat for next year, and this one looks like a great deal. Will new bat regulations affect use of this bat?
Asked by craig stoll
As long as you guys are buying a bat for use in a league that is under USSSA rules, this 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) will be fine for use. I would recommend checking with your league to see if this bat is legal according to your league's rules.
What is the difference between the combat VG2SL105 and the combat VIGSL105?

Does this bat have to be broken in? What are the major differences between this bad and the Combat Maxum -5 SL7mx105? I see there's about an $80 difference in price between the two.
Asked by andy
The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL105 would benefit from a break in period, since it is composite. We recommend 150-200 swings off a tee, rotating the barrel 1/4 turn between swings to get an even break in before facing live pitching. The Combat Maxum is Combat's top-of-the-line model. It features a larger sweet spot, and is a bit more balanced than the Vigor.
Can this bat be used in intermediate 50/70 this year?
Asked by bb
The Intermediate Division 50/70 Division in Little League requires composite bats to be BBCOR so the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) is not going to be legal.
Do you think the USSSA certification would be in lieu of USA baseball stamp for this year?
Asked by marty
The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL105 will only be allowed in USSSA sanctioned games in 2018 as the new bat stamp will be the USABat standard. These bats will feature thicker barrel walls thus decreasing the exit velocity of the bats. The current youth bats on the market that feature the USSSA stamp will perform better and thus not allowed beginning in 2018 outside of USSSA sanctioned games.
Is the bat stamped USA baseball? I know its not BBCOR. League mandates it be stamped for legal use.
Asked by marty
This bat is stamped for USSSA certification if that is what you mean. If you mean the USABaseball standard for next year, then no it does not have that certification.
Is this bat BBCOR?

What is the difference between the Combat Vigor and the Portent?
Asked by Noah
This 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) and the Portent would be one-piece, all-composite bats. However, we have heard some individuals claim that the Vigor bat felt slightly more end-loaded than the Portent bats.
My son has been using the Louisville 716 - 10 and now has to convert to a - 5 bat. 5 ounces sounds like a lot to increase at one time to me! Is it a significant change in the bat weight?
Asked by baseball dad 12
Moving from a -10 to a -5 bat such as the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat: VG2SL105 can be quite a jump in weight. Ideally, a player would transition from a -10, to a -8, to a -5, and finally a -3 once he enters high school.
My son is needing a -5 bat. I would like to know how this one compares to the other top brands?
Asked by JP
This 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) will be a one-piece, all-composite bat. Which will make it a little different from any other -5 bats that we carry here at JustBats (we have no other one-piece, all-composite bats with a -5 length-to-weight ratio). I would say that the one-piece, all-alloy design and the two-piece, all-composite design will be more popular. We haven't received any reviews yet on this bat, but I think that you guys would be pretty happy with the performance overall if you were to get this bat.
What's the main difference between the VIGOR and MAXUM?
Asked by Wrenchman
The main difference between the VIGOR and the MAXUM is the barrel length and how well the two bats are balanced. The COMBAT MAXUM will be the most balanced bat that COMBAT manufactures as well as featuring the longest barrel.
My son is 13 and is swinging the CAT 7 (-8), but I'm looking for something heavier to prep him for BBCOR next year. Why is this bat and the 2016 Vigor (-5) both discounted by $100 or more?
Asked by unclem77
This 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) (along with all other COMBAT bats) is being sold at a heavily discounted price because COMBAT recently went out of business. COMBAT's owner company filed for bankruptcy and unfortunately COMBAT did not have a buyer that offered to purchase them and keep the company running (going out of business did not reflect poor product quality on COMBAT). We bought a large portion of COMBAT's inventory for pretty low costs and because of that, we are able to sell most of their bats at really low prices. As well, we will handle the warranty period on all the COMBAT's purchased from us.

I am 13 years old and I have a MAKO XL (-8). Do you think this bat is similar to my MAKO XL?
Asked by mason
This 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) will be a little different than what you are used to swinging with the MAKO XL. Your MAKO XL is a two-piece, all-composite bat with an end-loaded swing weight. This Vigor will differ as it has a one-piece, all-composite design and will not be end-loaded like the MAKO XL (however, some players do say the Vigor features a very slight end-load). Overall, this Vigor will feature composite material like the MAKO XL, but the feel of the two bats will be different when making contact with the ball as the Vigor is more balanced and a one-piece bat while the MAKO XL is more end-loaded and a two-piece bat.
What is the difference between this bat and the MAXUM?

The main difference between the 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) and the 2017 COMBAT MAXUM -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL7MX105) is going to be the Vigor has a shorter barrel. Other than that the bats are pretty much the exact same.
How would this bat compare to the 2014 Combat Portent? Granted, the Portent we have is a -10, but our son is larger, stronger, and older, and we want something that will be a nice step up while sticking with the same brand if possible.

The 2017 COMBAT VIGOR -5 Senior League Baseball Bat (VG2SL105) would be a good step up from your -10 ComBat Portant that your son has been using. These two bats are extremely similar in their design and feel. Both are one-piece composite designs with balanced swing weights. The differences are extremely minimal. It will offer a very similar feel to your Portant.
