Pros: Great pop, very impressed so far with durability of the alloy. Used other alloy in the past that dented or flattened very quickly. 30+ games in and holding up well. Would recommend for those looking to alloy
Cons: Not necessarily a con, but the 2 5/8 barrel "looks" much thinner. Maybe because he's used the 2 3/4 up to this point...no biggie

Is this bat too big for an 8 yr old (70 lbs, 53")?
Asked by Wes
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of going with a big barrel bat that has a 29" length. As long as your player can handle the 19 oz weight of the 29" option of this 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat (SLVR10), I would say that specific size option of this bat would fit your player well.

Description for 2016 Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat
Brand new for 2016: the next generation of Rawlings VELO Senior League Baseball Bat: SLVR10! The VELO has earned a reputation for being one of the lightest swinging bats on the market, and the new version completely backs it up. Thanks to the VELO's Comp-Lite Composite End Cap, unnecessary weight is removed from the barrel of the bat, shifting the balance point towards the player's hands and lowering the MOI. If the swing speed you generate with this bat doesn't turn heads at the park, the maximum pop and resonating "ping" created by the bat's stiff flex, full alloy construction, and AP (Acoustic Performance) Technology surely will. Like many of you already know, some bats that focus on maximizing swing speed fall short in other performance categories. But not the VELO. Not only is this an extremely well-balanced design, but its barrel has been optimized for maximum strength and compression / trampoline on contact. Explosive swing speed and a massive barrel: a game-winning combination! This bat features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, -10 length to weight ratio, the USSSA BPF 1.15 Certification mark, and it is backed by a full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
