Zach’s baseball review Zach Mascolo Player

Pros: Great bat overall had amazing pop probably one if not the best bat I’ve ever used had a great feel to it I hit 8 home runs with it and if you barreled a ball the ball flew. In the cold I never felt a sting, as i did in the past. It wasn’t just one part on the bat the end of the bat too was amazing I was able to hit a line drive on a outside pitch with the end of the bat. I do recommend this bat.

Cons: I did notice as the season went on the bat did kinda lose some pop honestly it was a great bad nothin really there was to fix

Drop 10 to Drop 8 George Coach

Pros: My son plays 10u baseball, has always used a drop 10. We had been using the cat 8 Marucci for the the past year, moving from a 29/19 to a 30/20. We recently moved to a 30/22 and can honestly say my son has not had issues with faster pitchers do to the 2 oz. jump but HAS gained at least 10 ft from a max of 210 to now at least 220 at his best.

Excellent Bat Eli Berry Parent

Pros: My 12 year old used this bat this season and had the best hitting season of his life. We've had several bats over the years. Trying to find one that we liked as much as the old Easton S3...the black and orange one. This bat surpassed that one. Great bat. It will do it's job.

Cons: We bought too short. It swings so well, don't be afraid to go a little bit longer.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Hi, my son currently swings a Marucci Cat 7 30 inch/22 ounce -8 bat. He says it's too short and too light. He turned 12 in September, and is 5'7 and 135lbs. Should he get the -8 32 inch Cat 8 or should he move up to the Cat 8 -5 bat in what size? Heather Wied
With the size specs provided for your player, we would suggest a 32" option. The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 option in 32" would add two ounces of weight. The jump to a 32" model of the Marucci CAT 8 -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC85 may be too big of a transition for your player; however, we do see most 12-13 year olds swinging -5 bats.
Daveron
Does this bat come in a 2 5/8"? Laura
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat (MSBC88) will only be available in a 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
John
Mariucci notes this bat has lower MOI and a balanced feel, as do some reviews, but I have also seen some reviews suggest that it is end-loaded. What are your views on how balanced this bat really is? Paul
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is going to be a balanced bat. However, if you are moving up from a -10 it will feel heavier to swing which could be where individuals are getting the idea that it is end-loaded.
Tyler
My son is 65 lbs 4.6 ft tall. Currently playing with a 29/19 -10 marucci. He needs a 30” but I’m not sure what to buy him. He wants this bat but could it be too heavy for him? Do you know if the specifications USSSA is approved for all fast pitch baseball? Monika Prewett
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 could be too heavy for him at this moment, but we do have the 30'' 20 oz in the Marucci CAT 8 -10 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC10. That would be the model that you are looking for based upon the information that you have given me.
Max
Is it ok to hit the Cat 8 in cold weather? Vinnie
While there is no definitive set of guidelines for bats being used in cold weather, we generally recommend avoiding using your best/game bat once the temperatures get to about 40-45 degrees and below if at all possible. Colder temperatures make the ball a bit more dense, so it causes a bit more stress on impact that normal.
Kyle J.
My 12 year old presently swings a 28" -10 bat. He is 4'11" and 85 lbs. He's in the 6th grade. I wonder whether he should size up to a 29" -8 bat such as this Marucci CAT8 -8? Billy Q
Around that age is a great time to start transitioning into a heavier bat. The -8 Cat 8 would be a great option with the well-balanced swing weight to ease the move into a heavier bat. Also based on his specifics, a 29" model would be the ideal length.
Tyler
Trying to decide between the CAT 7 and CAT 8 for my 10 year old, 4’ 8”, 77 lbs. What are the enhancements that give the CAT 8 an advantage over the CAT 7? BADtheDad03
The biggest difference between the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 and the Marucci CAT 7 will be the AZ105 alloy and the 2nd generation AV2 Anti-Vibration Knob. The AZ105 alloy will be the strongest aluminum on the Marucci bat line and will allow for thinner walls, the 2nd generation AV2 knob will reduce the vibration that a typical one piece alloy will vibrate the hands immensely.
Max
My son is 4'10" and 85lbs. He is 11 years old playing 11U travel. I believe 30" is the correct length, based on your bat coach tool, but am trying to decide between the drop 8 or drop 10. What do you recommend? Dave D
Based upon your player's height, weight and other players around his age I would recommend swinging a 30'' 22 oz in a Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88. He most likely has been swinging a 29'' 19 oz and the added weight for an 11 year old should not be an issue.
Max
Debating on this bat for our 11 year old. We just received the Cat 8 -10 and he says it feels light. He is 5’1” tall and 112 lbs. Any advice is appreciated! Tami
Either size should be fine. We typically start to see players using -8 model around age 11 or 12.
Kyle
Is it necessary to break in my sons new Marucci CAT 8 baseball bat? Daniel Ries
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 features an alloy barrel and does not need to be broken in like composite options. This bat is ready to go out of the wrapper.
Daveron
My son has an older Marucci Hex 31"/21 oz. He is now 12 and about 5'4" tall, 135 lbs. I am considering moving him to a heavier bat like a drop 8 and going to a 30" bat as he has to transition to a drop 5 next year. Is the Cat 8 going to be the most similar to the Hex and what would be others to consider in a drop 8? David Bybee
The Marucci Cat 8 would probably be the most similar to the Hex, and is one of our best reviewed models and a great option. Some other options you could also consider would be the DeMarini CF -8, the Rawlings VELO -8, or the Easton ADV 360 -8.
Kyle
Is the size of "large sweet spot" in this cat 8 -8 the same as the "sweet spot" for the Buster Posey model? Are the dimensions of barrel the same? Charles
The size of the sweet spot will be the same for both the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 and the Marucci Posey28 Pro Metal -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBP288S.
Jack
What is the difference between the CAT 7 and the CAT 8? David
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 features a new alloy compared to the CAT 7 for thinner barrel walls and a higher response rate.
Cameron
What is the best drop 8 for HR derby? I'm thinking the CAT or Zen, I might be wrong on both. Or, is there something else? Stephen
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is one of the highest rated bats in terms of performance and durability in the -8 USSSA category. With that being said, if seeking a bat strictly for a HR Derby competition, then the Zen would be hard to pass up. This model has consistently rated near the top in performance measurements. For game play though, it does not hold up as long as some other similar models.
Cameron
Is it true that the bat is not suppose to be used below 60 degrees? Ernest
The warmer the weather the better, that goes for any bat, not just the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88. With that being said, the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 can certainly be used in colder weather than 60 degrees.
Cameron
How does the CAT -8 compare with the Louisville Slugger Prime 919 -8 in 29 length? Justin
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is a one-piece all alloy bat while the LS Prime 919 is a two-piece all composite. Both bats are balanced with 2 3/4" barrel diameters.
Cameron
How does this bat compare to the Marucci CAT 8 -8 composite? Vinny
While both bats are balanced models, the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is a one-piece alloy bat while the CAT 8 Composite is a two-piece composite. Any two-piece bat will offer the most vibration control from an off-centered hit.
Cameron
Any difference from Cat 8 drop 8 or Posey pro metal drop 8? frank
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 and the Marucci Posey28 Pro Metal -5 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBP285S are almost identical bats. Both feature the same alloy and one-piece balanced swing weight design with the AV2 knob. The main difference between the two would be the colorway and the Posey28 may not feel as balanced as the CAT 8 based on the slight barrel taper difference.
Cameron
My son swings a CF Zen composite bat that is a 30/22 (-8), but I have heard aluminum feels heavier. Should I order the Drop 8 or Drop 10? He is 5 foot and weighs 86 pounds and just transitioned to a Drop 8 two months ago. Deidra Holliday
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 might feel slightly heavier than his composite DeMarini bat but there is no reason to get this bat in a drop 10 unless he struggled with the drop 8 bat.
Cameron
My son will be 14 next summer. He currently is 5'11" and 135 lbs. What would be the best bat for him in Babe Ruth League? David Kearbey
For Babe Ruth play, one will have to use either a USA or BBCOR model. Thus the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 would not be a legal bat. Per his height, weight and age, we would recommend getting a 32 inch 27 ounce USA approved bat or a 32 inch 29 ounce BBCOR bat. If the player is already in high school, then a BBCOR bat must be used.
Cameron
Do they make it in 2 5/8 barrel? Ed diller
No, the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 only comes in the 2 3/4" barrel diameter.
Cameron
Will weight factor in getting a new bat? Cohen M
The Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is a great model for a stronger 12U player or anyone at the 13U level. At 13U, all players must use at least a -8, or heavier, bat.
Cameron
These bats cannot be used in Cal Ripken correct? Jake
Correct, the Marucci CAT 8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 cannot be used in Cal Ripken leagues. For Cal Ripken leagues, a hitter must use a bat that is USA Baseball stamped.
Cameron
My son has only played LL with USA bats. Transitioning to travel ball and middle school ball. He's 13, 5'8" and average build. Has never swung anything heavier than a -10. Last season he used a Rawlings Velo 32/22. Would this Cat8 be too drastic a change? And do you recommend USSSA or BBCOR? Rafael
The Marucci CAT8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 is a great bat to consider for a 13U USSSA player. This bat will feature a balanced swing weight design! At the 13U level, a hitter must use either -8 or -5 USSSA or a BBCOR bat. A BBCOR bat will be heavier and lower performing so would not recommend one.
Cameron
My son is in a 9u travel baseball tournament. Is the CAT8 -8 a legal bat? Joseph Giovanisci
The Marucci CAT8 -8 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC88 can be used but for a 9U travel player, a -10 USSSA bat, like the Marucci CAT8 -10 USSSA Baseball Bat: MSBC810, would be a better option for most hitters.
