My kid loves this bat... DPDuni parent

Pros: Great pop. Solid feel at impact. He's very confident at the plate with this in his hands.

Cons: It's been a cold spring, so there's a touch more vibration at time that he'd like, but I think that will diminish in warm weather.

Rawlings bats are good!! Nelson Coach

Pros: The bat for the price you can't go wrong. Has plenty of Pop right out the wrapper. Sounds good when you hit it on the sweet spot.this is the second 5150 I bought my son back-to-back years I love the Rawlings bats.

Cons: The only Con I could think of is when you don't catch it on The Sweet spot the bat does not sound good but that is going to only let you know you did not catch it on The Sweet spot so in reality it's not a bad thing.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How is the pop on this bat and how is it overall? CHUCK
Sadly, we do not have any reviews yet for this specific 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB853). However, the 5150 line of bat traditionally rates really well and I think this bat will display solid performance and durability just like the older models of the bat.
Ben
What is the difference from last year's and this year's? duner
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 and the 2017 model are really the same bats other than the cosmetics.
Jason
I am 5'10" 140 pounds, what size bat do I need? clay
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853.
Logan
I am 5'10" 140 pounds. What size bat do I need? clay
I would recommend a bat length of 32 inches.
Dan
I am 6'4" and 170 lbs. Should I use a 34" or 33"? Lgoerig
Based upon your height and weight, the general suggestion for length of this 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB853) would be 34".
Ben
What are the differences between the 2018 5150 and the 2017 VELO? dana
This 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB853) and the 2017 VELO BBCOR (BB7V) bat are very similar bats, but there are differences. They are both alloy material, but their alloy materials are built a little differently (overall, I don't think one is significantly better than the other / that being said, the VELO alloy material is probably louder sounding at contact). The large difference between the bats is that the 2017 VELO has a composite end-cap. That end-cap makes the bat feel lighter and more balanced than the 5150. The large advantage to the VELO Bats is that they are probably the most balanced feeling bat on the market.
Ben
I'm 6'3" and 195 pounds and I plan on using a 33, should I switch to a 34"? Ben
Based on your height and weight, you could get the 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 in either a 33 or 34 inch model; it all depends on your personal preference and what you feel most comfortable with.
Cameron
Does the 5150 or Rawlings Trio have the same sweet spot length? Jessie
Unfortunately it is impossible to determine how long the sweet spot may be on the 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 compared to the Trio. Generally speaking, since the Trio is end-loaded there will most likely be a slightly smaller sweet spot but this smaller sweet spot might produce greater pop due to the concentration in weight.
Cameron
Is this bat USA approved? Cynthia salas
BBCOR options are allowed in USA Bat play only in the Intermediate and Junior League Divisions. So, the 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 would be allowed in the upper divisions.
Daveron
How does the 5150 compare to the Easton Beast X Speed? browns
Both the 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 and the Easton Beast X Speed are very comparable bats as both are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights.
Cameron
I'm 5"9"" and 145 lbs, what length is best for me? gmoney
Typically speaking, a player of your size will swing a 32" BBCOR bat. Furthermore, this 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 would be an excellent option for you considering the the pOp 2.0 technology in place to create an enormous sweet spot.
Tyler
How is the balance of the bat? What I have right now is a Louisville Slugger 517. How does this bat match up to the 5150? salvy
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 is very similar in terms of balanced swing weight to that of the LS Omaha 517. Any difference would be slight and more personal opinion as both bats are one-piece alloy models featuring plastic end caps.
Cameron
Would this be a good choice for a 4'8" 100lb boy? jimy shoemaker
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 is a one-piece alloy bat, which is generally recommended for a bigger player with a little more power. I would recommend looking at the Rawlings Velo as the composite end cap on that model will allow for easier control through the swing path.
Tyler
Why is there such a huge price drop? Mitchell bullard
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 has dropped in price due to this model being a closeout from Rawlings.
Cameron
Which has the largest sweet spot of these, the Beast X Speed, Velo, or 5105? B
To be honest, all three models will be very comparable in terms of swing weight, sweet spot size, and pop. The biggest difference is that the Rawlings models will have a much louder ping. Some people like that, but some find it annoying when hitting indoors.
Kyle J.
I am 5’3 and 95-100 pounds. Can I swing a 31''? Which has the biggest sweet spot between the 5150, Velo and the Beast X Speed? B
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend a 29'' bat. The 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 is not available in a 29'', so if you were interested in this bat, you could move up to a 30''. The sweet spot on the 5150, Velo and Beast X Speed will all be very similar.
Tori
Can I get this at a store for the same discounted price? And if I can what stores? Bryce Wiggins
Unfortunately we would not know what brick and mortar retail outlets will be carrying the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 and the price they would be selling the bat for.
Cameron
What is the difference between this model and the 2019 model? JRJ
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 and 2019 will be prett similar. However, the 2019 will have a hyper-lite end cap for a lighter feel and faster swing speeds.
Tori
How does the 5150 compare to the Louisville Slugger Solo BBCOR bat? Mike
The Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 is a one-piece alloy bat, just like the LS Solo BBCOR. The LS Solo BBCOR bat though will feature a composite end cap, thus making the bat more balanced. The Rawlings VELO BBCOR will compare more favorably with the LS Solo BBCOR.
Cameron
For a lead off hitter, would you recommend this or a Velo? NA
Both this 2018 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB853) and the VELO are pretty solid bats, but I would give the edge to the VELO in regard to being more balanced. Because of that, I would recommend the VELO as the best option for a leadoff hitter.
Ben
Is this an end-loaded bat? Jermaine
This Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB853) will be more of a balanced swinging bat.
Ben
Which is better, this bat or the 518 Omaha? Jon
The swing weight feel, performance, durability and overall design concept of the Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB853 is very similar to that of a LS Omaha. Which one to get really comes down to a player's personal preference regarding feel and brand.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
