We bought the -11 version; but it is good Chris parent

Pros: We got this bat in -11 for our son for his birthday; was hesitant about spending $100 but it was worth it. He was moving from a -13 reflex and the -11 version was the closest. We also went from 27 inch to 28 inch so we increased the weight by 3 oz. It has a good sweet spot and balance. He has hit about 50 pitches this past week and besides having to adjust to the added weight he is still driving the ball up the middle and just as far as his old reflex bat. The 2 5/8 barrel is also an adjustment but he seems to like it better than the 2 1/4. The 5150 is a good bat and you will not be disappointed.

Cons: None so far; just having to buy it and him having to move to a -11 instead of -13.

Good inexpensive alloy bat, but overweight. Joe Jackson with shoes parent

Pros: Solid bat, no sting, won't break the bank. Interesting sound, ear splitting at times.

Cons: Weight is 2 oz over claimed weight. 29" weighed in a bit over 21oz! Keeping it as a practice and "warm up" bat, but will also be purchasing a true -10 drop.

Happy 8U Customer Lou parent

Pros: This bat has some nice POP to it and a loud "ding" when hitting the sweet spot. My son loves it. He graduated from a 2 1/4 to this 2 5/8 Drop 10 and you can see the improvement. Great all around bat for the price!

Cons: The bat does vibrate but not so much that my son can't stand it.

This bat is a weapon average Joe parent

Pros: Going from a -13 to this -11 bat I think for us was the best case scenario. We haven't notice any drop off or swing speed. After his hitting lesson the Instructor had some concerns about the bat being 2 5/8 but we looked up on line and his response was that this bat was a weapon, and that he should have no problem driving the ball this season.

Cons: I am not sure the price is justified we tried to stay middle of the road he is only 9 seems silly to be spending that kind of money on a bat.

the sleeper 76south coach

Pros: don't sleep on this bat! My son rather use this than his ghost X. Has good pop out of the wrapper. Don't hide from the rules folks, just adapt! Our 9u team bought all the new usa baseball bats on sept. 1st 2017, and this one is the most popular. For 100 bucks you can't go wrong. We use the 28/18 which actually weighs about 20 ounces, but it's end loaded and provides some whip.

Cons: heavier than labeled, irratating sound

Great bat for the price! Kevin parent

Pros: made very well..awesome "ping" when hitting it true. My 9yo son just started using this bat and loves it. He moved up to 18oz so he has to start his swing just a second quicker but the ball flies well off of this bat. The color scheme is pretty cool on this bat and has a nice "tacky" handle.

Cons: none so so.

Great Pop RFL parent

Pros: I bought this bat for my 12 year old son. We went with the 31". Although its a bit smaller than he's using in AAU ball, we needed this to play out his final season in Little League. For the price, it has great pop. We have not used it in league play yet. But in the cages, you can tell it has great pop & hits with distance. He used it in the cage for soft toss. Ball after ball, the bat is loud. I would recommend this bat, if you're not looking to spend a ton of money. We liked it so much, we bought the same bat for our 8 year old son. He too has no problem showing, that it has a great solid pop to it.

Cons: If the ball gets hit at the tip of the bat, the vibration stings a bit. Nothing over the top, though. Just a little sting.

Great Pop for the price! RFL player

Pros: I bought this bat for my 12 yr old son, so he can play out his final season in Little League. The 31" is a tad small for my boy. He plays AAU and uses a 32" mako for that. For the price, this bat has a great solid pop to it. If using for soft toss in a cage, I will say this...Its loud. We liked it so much, I bought a 2nd one for my 8 yr old. He too has proven that it has great pop. I would recommend this bat, if you'e not looking to spend a ton of money. With us, my 12 yr old is in his last year at Little League and my 8 yr old uses the 29" inch. Later, the 31" will be used by our 8 yr old.

Cons: The only negative we found was, his hands stung a bit when the ball was hit at the tip of the bat. Other than that, no vibrations elsewhere.

Durability??? Baseball Dad player

Pros: Good balance - solid swings vs a couple other bats we tried.

Cons: 5 dents after the first use. The day after we bought it went to the school field with a couple friends (using official LL baseballs) and after about an hour we found 5 dents one big one right in the sweet spot.

Pros: Not sure because my son can't use it

Cons: We bought this 27/17 because that is what my son (6) CURRENTLY had, but we needed one with the new USA Stamp. He complained pretty quickly that it is too heavy. I just weighed it, and its actually 20.1 oz Extremely disappointed!

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I noticed that there are different alloy bats. I have seen Advanced Thermal Alloy, Acoustic Alloy, 7050 Aircraft Alloy, 5150 alloy, etc. I'm sure there are other aluminum materials as well. (1) Is there a difference between these? (2) Is there a difference for the hitter from one alloy to another? (3) Does one have more pop than the other? Dan
There is minor differences in the aluminum material. For example, the Acoustic Alloy has a very loud "ping" sound on contact. All bats are going to perform a little differently and whether a hitter prefers one over another is a personal preference.
Carter
Would you recommend this bat for my kid? Ricco
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8510) is a great one piece alloy bat. It isnt the most balanced bat, may be geared toward more power hitters. If these specs meet your standards, then yes i would recommend this bat.
Mick
Is the barrel on the -10 bigger than the -11? Is the sweet spot bigger than the -11? dh
The barrel length and sweet spot on the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 would be marginally larger than the 2018 Rawlings VELO -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8V11.
Cameron
I've seen people say this bat is about 2 oz heavier then what it reads. Was this the same with the past 5150? My son has 2017 5150 27" -10. Will the 2018 weigh the same as the 2017? tg
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 does come in roughly 2 ounces more than the listed weight on the bat. Unfortunately though we are not sure what the USSSA model of the Rawlings 5150 model would have weighed in 2017.
Cameron
My question is not just on this bat, but all bats. With the new USA specs, are they making any with a 2 3/4" barrel? DP409
USA bats are required to have a 2 5/8" barrel or smaller, so there will not be any 2 3/4" barrel USA bats.
Logan
Can this bat be legally used in USSSA play? Lonzo
Yes, you can use USA bats such as the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 in USSSA play.
Carter
Does anybody make a drop -13, like a 30 inch 17 oz.? Jason
Unfortunately, the lightest big barrel USA bats feature a -11 length to weight ratio, such as the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8511.
Logan
Is this bat USSSA Certified? Bryan
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 is a USA certified bats and is approved for play in AABC, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, Little League, and Pony.
Dan
Is this a BBCOR bat? We were told that we are not allowed to use BBCOR bats in our Cal Ripken League. usamako
This 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8510) is not a BBCOR bat and so it would be approved for use in the Cal Ripken League.
Taylor
I need a 30 inch, 20 ounce bat. Given the fact that your USA bats are 2 ounces heavier than listed I cannot buy your listed bat. Do you have a 30 inch 18 ounce bat that would be a true 20 ounce bat? Dave
The only -12 USA bats that we carry have a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. They are the Easton Beast X Hyperlite (YSB18BXHL) and the Easton S450 (YSB18S450).
Kyle J.
Do you have this bat in a drop 11? John
Yes we do, it is the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8511.
Carter
My son is 4 ft tall and weighs 55 pounds. I need a bat that has some pop in it. Does this Rawlings -10 bat come in a 27"/16 oz size? Huezito
Rawlings does make this bat in a -11 model, called the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -11 USA (US8511). However we are sold out of the 27"/16 oz size, as are most other vendors that we are aware of.
Kyle J.
Looking at a 27" bat for 7 year old coach pitch. We currently have an Easton MAKO USSSA which has bad vibration and is now illegal in our league. What is your opinion on this Rawlings 5150 vs the Easton S650? Viper
This 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat (US8510) will be a -10 while the 2018 Easton S650 -9 USA Baseball Bat (YBB18S6509) is a -9 bat. If you had a 27" size of each bat, the 5150 would be the lighter bat. Both bats have received solid reviews so far as well. I don't know that either will have exceptional vibration reduction technology, but my suggestion would probably be for the 5150 since it is the lighter bat.
Ben
My 6 year old is currently using an 28', -10 Easton S750c which is a great bat but way too end loaded for him to work on swing mechanics. Is the 27', -10 Rawlings 5150 a more balanced bat? Is it lighter in actual weight also? Thank! c_bball
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA is a pretty well balanced bat, yes. We weighed a random 5150 -10 USA here in the call center, and a bat listed at 19 oz weighed in at 21 oz, just to give you an idea. Most all of the USA certified bats seem to weigh in 1-2oz heavier than the listed weight unfortunately.
Kyle J.
Is there a unit of measure given to bats to indicate the balance or how much end load the bat has? c_bball
Unfortunately there are no units of measure to indicate how balanced or end loaded the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 may be to another model.
Cameron
Is this bat a 29" drop 11? dan
The 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 is a drop 10 bat that does come in a 29" option. If you are looking for the drop 11 5150, that will be the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -11 USA Baseball Bat: US8511.
Tyler
I am looking for this bat in a 31" drop 10. Is it available? Steph
At this time we do not have the 2018 Rawlings 5150 -10 USA Baseball Bat: US8510 in stock in a 31/21. We hope to have more of this size from Rawlings in the coming weeks.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
