Awesome Bat Eric S. coach

Pros: My son is very small for his age, 40lbs, 42inchs in hieght, plays in CP. I was kinda hesitant about the 27/17 because on the question section of this bat, a Justbat rep said the ture weight was 27/19. Not in my case, ohmaha has good balance and my son has no problem getting it through the strike zone, very good pop, has a bbcor sound on contact. My son has probably taken more than 500 hacks at the cages and has felt no sting. I am very happy with this bat, especially becuase I almost forked over 280.00 for easton ghost hyperlight.

Great bat for price and first year of USA rules Mike Langston coach

Pros: Solid bat. My son hit about all of the USA bats that were at the cage. We even hit the full composite Easton but my son complained about vibration the entire time. He hits this bat really well. The bat has a solid sound and comes at a great price point. I recommend for the first series of bats using the USA standard.

Cons: We cannot tell, but some have complained that it is heavier than advertised. My son is 10 and we got him the 30/ -10.

Really great bat Mace player

Pros: Has surprisingly good pop compared to other USA bats. Slightly heavier than a -10 gives a bit of an end loaded feel.

Cons: Definitely not the same pop as USSSA bats. Same hand stinger, bat tape didn't feel like Lizardskin if it was and ended up replacing it with another Lizardskin.

GREAT BAT Gilmer Yellow Jackets coach

Pros: My 9yr old loved the look as did I. Purchased the 30/20 for him and straight out the box he was smashing the ball. Had a little vibration which he said was from miss hits, said he could tell but vibration wasnt that bad (this is from a 9yr olds mouth). overall he's happy and so am I. Good bat for the money Jeremy parent

Pros: Bought a 20:30. It weighs 21.5 oz (drop 8.5). My son is 5'1" 105 lbs. and is 11 years old. The bat is similar to the 20:30 Rawlings 5150 without the high-pitched aluminum "ping." Feels, acts and sounds much more like a wood bat, so the USA standard appears to be working. The handle is tapered at the knob for a good feel. No need for a knob cuff on this bat.

Cons: Heavier than advertised (8.5 drop), but a good fit considering the USA bat standard changes. Many of the -10 USA bats are heavier than advertised.

Pros: Demo'ed this bat 28/18 and it swung lighter than both Demarini 28/18's we tried. My boy was able to maintain great swing path and was hitting line drives. The Demarini's of same spec were too end loaded and you could see it in his swing. One of the most balanced USA Bats we demo'ed. Can not beat it for the $$.

Pros: the pop off of the bat. The ball comes off of the bat great. My son loves it. Did a lot of rsearch about the new bats. All the easton bats seem dead sounding. know somekids that have them and overpaid. I honestly believe that after a year of feedback these companies will make these bats better next year. no need to spend an arm and a leg on first year bats.

Solid bat for the money Parent and coach coach

Pros: Good balance, my boy likes the way it swings. Compared to other USA bats, this one is the best, I think in the price range. Ball comes off the bat well but not like the USSSA bats last year. Like the bigger barrel and increased hitting area. Did a lot of research and went to demos, this bat appeared very hard to beat for the money.

Cons: Drop 10 is slightly on the heavy side but all USA bats appear to be that way.

my 9 yr old loves it! Keith M parent

Pros: The bat has a lot more pop than all of the more popular USA bats in this price range. This bat looks much different from all of the others on my sons team, which he prefers. I've thrown BP to him a few times with this new bat and haven't heard him complain about vibration at all, which is amazing. He isn't the greatest hitter, not bad just not great, but this bat has a much larger sweet spot which he appreciates.

Cons: I actually wanted to get my son the Solo but they were on backorder at the time. i'm glad i didnt though, because this bat is great...and it was less expensive.

Pros: My 10 yo son uses the 30 in (drop 10). He likes it so far. Surprisingly, it has decent pop for the new USA standard. It's a good, inexpensive bat vs. the more expensive Easton Ghost or Beast.

Cons: None so far. He hasn't had the bat long enough to test the durability.

The Drop issue My son's Dad parent

Pros: reasonable price for first year of USA bats, look, feel, LS is a good company. My son's USSSA bat is a -10 31/21. I read the reviews of the new USA bats weighing more, so I bought the 30/20 of this bat. Actual weight is about 21.6 oz., so I gave up length to compensate for the weight.

Cons: My 12 year old son used this bat one time. During that short time he might have contacted 10 baseballs. The bat bent severely and there were also 3 dents in the barrel. We are sending it back for a replacement, though I would rather have a refund as I no longer trust this bat to perform.

Pros: My 7U son has had this bat for two weeks now and it seems to have more pop than any of the USABats my son has used. He's used the Easton Ghost-X, Rawlings 5150, AxeBat Element and the Omaha definitely topped each one of these bats in terms of the trampoline effect off the bat.

awesome bat Jr823 parent

Pros: Since the new usa bat standard started this year i have purchased 2 bats from usabats. I dont have complaints about either of them. First I purchased the Demarini voodoo 2 piece for 250.00. It is a great bat but the problem was that i bought it to heavy bc this new usa bats are weighting more than the listed weight. So then i decided to buy a cheaper bat just to last until my son could comfortably use the other one. Well let me tell you this Omaha Louisville slugger 518 did not disappoint, and btw it was only 99.00! For the price this bat could not be any better. We bought it just 1oz lighter than the other bat and you wont believe the diff. First day on the field my son hit the ball farther than he every has. Great feel no vibration or sting. Has great pop and sound! My son and this bat def go hand in hand. btw my son just turned 9 and weights 70lbs and is 4'5. we got the drop 10 28in 18oz and it couldnt be a better fit. oh yea did i mention he hit his 1st homer the 2nd game of season

Good bat with an annoying rattling. John coach

Pros: Bought my son a 28" Ghost X. He was getting hits but no pop. Bought the 27" LS 518. A better size for him and seems to have more pop than the Ghost X. With the new rule changes, composite bats don't give much of an advantage. Should have saved the money and bought the 518.

Cons: Some epoxy got loose inside the bat. Now there is a slight rattling sound in the bat. Doesn't effect performance but annoying. Didn't have this issue with any other bats we've owned.

Good For the money Matt coach

Pros: For the money it was good. 100 bucks to play just three tournaments. My son likes the tapered handle and feel of the bat. Would by again if we are forced to use USA bat std.

Cons: Zero pop. Hardly any pop to any of the USA bats. We played three tourneys and not many hard hits. Nothing to do with the actual bats it is all to do with this crappy usa bat std that everyone except U trip and BPA has adopted. Would love to sink them all to the ocean. These heavy bats affect swing mechanics and get kids in bad habits. Used in 8U travel and All stars.

Great bat - great price point Mairob parent

Pros: Better pop than any bat tried under $100 - rivals more expensive bats. If you used to use a LS bat - would stick with this. It feels great in my 12 y.o. hands and inspires confidence. Actually a good looking bat, like the color scheme better than the red and black of years past.

Cons: Not so much a con, but as with all of these USA bats - balls that are smashed don't trampoline like they used to last year,

Any idea how this compares to something like the Rawlings 5150 in terms of swing weight, balance, weight, etc.? How about a comparison to the Louisville Slugger 618, DeMarini Voodoo One, and/or the Easton 750? Thanks for any info you can provide rcspick
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 is a balanced, one-piece aluminum bat. It is very similar is to those aforementioned bats in both the swing weight and the -10 sizes. Unfortunately, with all of these new USA bats we don't have a whole lot of feedback on their performance yet, as they haven't been able to go through a full baseball season.

Is this bat legal for USSSA? hersheyman17
Yes, USA bats are legal for USSSA which includes the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10.
Carter
Are you sure this bat is USSSA legal? Dilly Dilly
The USA stamp on this Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTLUBO518B10) means this bat is more restricted in its performance than a USSSA stamped bat. Because of that, this bat would be allowed under USSSA rules.
Ben
Besides the difference in drop, -10 vs -11, can you tell me any differences between the Louisville Solo 618? mj romy
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 features a plastic end cap while the LS Solo 618 will feature a composite end cap. This allows the Solo 618 to be more balanced; similar in regards to the end cupping of a wood bat - it removes some of the weight towards the end.
Cameron
My son uses a Combat 28'' 18 oz 2 5/8 for travel ball. He loves it. I'm looking for the USA equivalent for Pony. He an undersized 2nd year, 10 year old. Bobo
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 would be a great fit for your son, because of the bat being balanced just as the Combats. I would suggest going with a 28'' 18oz as well.
Max
Do you know what the real weight of this is in a 30" bat? nascarjimbob
Typically, bats are weighed prior to the manufacturing process. We tend to see bats weighing roughly one to two ounces heavier than the listed price. The 30" Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 will weigh around 21 ounces.
Dan
I would like to get a 20 oz Omaha bat for my 10 year old. Would you recommend the 19 oz since these bats weigh in a little heavier? Johnny Baseball
Getting the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 in a 19 ounce model would get you a bat with more of a 20 ounce swing weight. If you are wanting a bat to be 20 ounces then going for the 29 inch 19 ounce model would be a great fit.
Cameron
Why are the new USA Bats coming in heavier than advertised? The 518 is listed at -10, but true drop is -8. Why is the model & brand weighing heavier than what's advertised. Were bat makers given an acceptable weight tolerance? Otherwise, seems like false advertisement to me. IanG
Typically, these bats are weighed before they are manufactured. So, each piece that makes up the bat is weighed individually. Once the bat has completed the entire manufacturing process, we have found that some bats will weigh an ounce or two heavier. For example, the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 with a 30 inch bat length will weight right around 20-22 ounces.
Dan
My son is 10 1/2 years old and weighs 93 lbs. He is 4'11" and is playing in travel baseball and Little League. What length and bat weight might you recommend? He currently has a 30in 18oz bat (-12). Cub Mom
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 is a great option for Little League play. I would recommend keeping the length at 30 inches and the drop weight at -10 or -11.
Dan
My son is 8 years old and he is 4'6 and weighs 115. Currently uses a 29" -10 bat; does not have long arms and not sure if he should stay at the current bat size or move up to 30" -10 with the Omaha 518 -10. BASEBALLdAD
Based on your son's height and weight we would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 in a 30 inch model. If you feel he struggles some with his current 29/19 bat then you may want to consider a smaller size.
Cameron
My son is 11 years old. He stands 5'2 and weighs 140 lbs. He is the prototypical lefty power hitter. Currently he uses a 31"-12 drop bat. Do you recommend him going up to a 32" and with a -10 drop? Alex's dad
We would recommend a 32" length for someone his size, but a 31" would also work as well. You always want to swing the heaviest bat that you can handle with good bat speed, as the more mass you can put to the ball the more power you will have. If you think he can handle a -10 drop, I would certainly recommend it.
Kyle J.
My son is 12 and is 5'2" and weighs 100 lbs! He has a Louisville 31/21 now. What size would you recommend? Mary
Based on your sons height and weight we would reocmmend sticking with that 31"/21 ounce size in the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10.
Carter
My son is 4 ft 9 and weighs 90 pounds. What size bat would you recommend, the 28/18 or the 28/19? He plays both Little League and travel ball and the Omaha series worked well for him during Little League. Luper
For someone of your player's height and weight, we would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 in a 30 inch model. If you feel that he would benefit more from a smaller size then you could certainly do so; unfortunately though the Omaha is not made in a -9 (28/19).
Cameron

I'm looking at purchasing the Omaha 518 (-10) for our 12 year old son. Looking at the 31" but I need to know the barrel width. We are looking for a 2 5/8" diameter with the USA stamp. Mike
This Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTLUBO518B10) has a barrel diameter of 2 5/8" and will come with the new USA Baseball stamp.
Taylor
My son is playing 9 U. He is about 65 lbs and is the tallest kid on his team. Any idea on the correct bat size for him? Matt41
If your player is 4'5" or taller, I would recommend this Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat (WTLUBO518B10) in the 29"/19 oz size. If he is under 4'5", he might be more comfortable with the 28"/18 oz bat.
Taylor
I bought my son the SR OMAHA 516 last year and we couldn't be happier, but now with the league changes on USA bats we need to purchase another one. Since my son's bat is red, silver and black I'm confused if this is the same bat. We do not want to purchase any other bat. Please help. jr
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 is just going to be the version of the Omaha 516 that your son is currently swinging.
Carter
My husband just bought the LS Omaha 518. Does this bat meet the new USA standard? It doesn"t say USABats on it, it says USSSA. Ayden
This bat has the USA Baseball stamp on it so it would be legal for the new Little League rules. If the bat you purchased was the USSSA version, then it will not be legal.
Kyle J.

Logan
My son is 5'1" and weighs 75lbs. Looking for a solid bat without breaking the bank. Jefe
Based on your player's height and weight, I would recommend either the 29" or 30" Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10. The Omaha 518 is going to offer you ST 7U1+ alloy to provide a large sweet spot with consistent, long lasting performance. This is a great bat, especially considering the price point.
Tyler
Can you play travel ball with usa stamp bats? I just want to know before I buy my son a new bat. timbomd
You certainly can use a USA bat, like the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10. We do, however recommend using a USSSA certified bat for tournaments as they will have noticeably higher levels of performance than the USA certified bats.
Tyler
Is it ok to use this bat in colder weather? We currently have temps at 30 to 40 degrees. Will it hurt the bat to use in this weather? JP
We would not recommend using any bat, including the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10, in temperatures below 55 degrees as it can damage the bat.
Carter
My boys are almost 8, and weigh about 60 lbs and 49" tall. We used a -10 last year that was a 27". Do you think the 28" would be ok to get this year? Lacey
Yes, we would recommend a 28" length of bat for his size.
Kyle J.
My son is 5'9" and 125 pounds. He is playing in a 50/70 league and needs a new USA approved bat. We are between the Louisville 518 & 618. Your advice would really be appreciated. kpaggs
Both bats should perform very similarly, as they are both one-piece alloy designs. The main difference is the Louisville Slugger Solo 618 has an improved endcap design to try and improve the balance of the bat. Other than that, they are both very similar in construction.
Kyle J.
What is the exact weight of the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 in a 29"/19 oz size? My son is 8 yrs old and is 54" tall and 87 lbs. Would that be a good size for him? Gene
Yes, we would suggest a 29" length for his height and weight. When we weighed this bat ourselves, it weighed +1 oz over the listed weight, so it would weigh 20 oz.
Kyle J.
My 8-year-old son is 4'6" tall and weighs 60 pounds. What length and weight would you recommend? John W
Would recommend getting the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 in a 29 inch model which would be a weight of 19 ounces.
Cameron
My 10 year old son is 5 ft tall and 112 lbs, what bat size should I get him? Junior
We would probably recommend a 30-31" length for his height and weight. As for weight, -10 is probably the most common drop for his age, although -8 could also be used.
Kyle J.
I recently inquired about the Louisville Omaha 518 27" or 28", which are both out of stock. I was also interested in the Rawlings 5150 and the DeMarini Voodoo One, which are both out of stock in those sizes as well. Can you please help guide me as to where I should look for these bats or with a new recommendation that is available. I need a USA Bat for my 7 year old son. Jim A
I would advise going to the individual web page for each bat by selecting it our website, and there is an option to sign up to receive and email when we have them in stock. This option is located just below the available sizes. As for where else to look, unfortunately we have no idea of what the available inventory of other vendors might be. Manufacturers seem to be having a difficult time keeping up with the demand for USA bats, since it's about 2-5 more models per manufacturer that they are having to make than in the past.
Kyle J.
Does this bat need broken in before used against live pitching? jenn
The Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 features an alloy barrel and thus does not require a break-in before using it against live pitching.
Cameron
My 9 year old is 4'9 and weighs 98 pounds. What size bat would you recommend? A. Rojas
Given your player's specifications, I would recommend the 30" 20oz. size of the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10.
Tyler
My son is 10 years old and 75 lbs. I do not exactly how tall he is but I would say he is average for a 10 year old. What size would you recommend? Mike
Unfortunately I don't really know what the "average" height is for a 10 year old, but if he was 5' tall and that weight we would recommend a 30" length.
Kyle J.
Can you tell me the actual weight of the 27"/17 oz? I know it will be 18 oz as most bats are a little heavy but just curious if you could tell me how close it is to 17 oz. Thanks Matt
A 29"/19 oz Omaha 518 USA weighed in at exactly 21 oz for us. Keep in mind that bat will weigh in a range of .5-2 oz heavier than the listed weight, and if you lined up 10 models of the 27"/17 oz size they would probably all be slightly different weights, so unfortunately we would not be able to provide the exact weight of the bat that you are ordering. It will most likely be 1-2 oz heavier than the listed amount.
Kyle J.
My son is 6 and is moving up to machine pitch. He is 46' tall and about 80 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? CB
For his height and weight we would recommend roughly a 28" length of bat.
Kyle J.
My son is 14 and 5'2" and 112 lbs. What size and weight for this Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 bat would you recommend? Thanks. Bruce
We would probably recommend a 30" or 31" length for his height and weight. As for weight, it's a bit hard for us to recommend that since it mostly depends on the player's strength. For a 14 year old though, I would probably say to go with a -8 or a -5 drop.
Kyle J.
Can you please tell me what the difference is between the Omaha 518 and the Omaha bat that’s on the Louisville website itself? The SKU # is WTLUBO5B102027. They seem to be the same bat but the items #s don’t match? What exactly is the difference? Baseball Mom
The biggest difference between the two bats is that the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10 features an ST 7U1+ Alloy construction, while the 2020 Louisville Slugger Omaha -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO5B1020 features an ST7 Alloy.
Lauren
Do you know the actual weight of the 31/21 518? WL
There is about a 1 ounce difference with the Louisville Slugger Omaha 518 -10 USA Baseball Bat: WTLUBO518B10. Thus a 31 inch model will feature a weight of roughly 22 ounces.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
