Description

The Solo 617 is Louisville Slugger's newest edition to the BBCOR lineup. If this bat doesn't get you excited, we don't know what will. Constructed with the brand new SL Hyper alloy, this one-piece construction delivers a stiff feel for maximum energy transfer on contact with a ball. Where this design differs from the Omaha 517 is at the end. Slugger has invented the Speed Ballistic Composite (SBC) end cap for the absolute lowest MOI and quickest swing speed in their BBCOR line. This end cap reduces excess weight towards the end of the barrel to produce the most balanced baseball bat Louisville Slugger has ever created. More control, more accuracy, and more power are all as a result of the exceptional balance the Solo 617 has to offer. To top it all off, Louisville Slugger has created a customized Lizard Skin premium performance grip that comes attached to the 31/32 inch tapered handle for extreme comfort and diminished vibration. Louisville Slugger: Own The Plate!

Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 features a -3 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the BBCOR certification making it legal for play at the high school and collegiate level. Additionally, Slugger is backing this design with a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Love this Bat mcPlaya55 player

Pros: This bat has a great ping sound and a lot of pop. I had a velo last year and decided to give this bat a try after it outperformed the new velo on a hittrax machine. It's a similar bat but outperforms and out shines the velo cosmetically on every front. I mean look at this gorgeous bat...it's sweeeet!

Cons: None so far.

Louisville Slugger Solo 617 Mark M. player

Pros: This bat reminds me of the Rawlings VELO. Super balanced. Very loud. A ton of pop! I love the custom lizard skin grip too. It is super comfy.

Cons: I'm not usually a fan of white baseball bats because they tend to get dirty but I'll get over it. This bat is awesome! No cons.

2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Turner H. player

Pros: Balanced Swing Weight, Solid Pop

Cons: I too have had a Rawlings VELO for the past few seasons but disagree with previous people that have left reviews. I hit the 617 and VELO at a demo and yes, the 617 is balanced, but when it came to 'pop' the VELO was clearly hotter. The ping of the VELO is much more distinct. I ended up purchasing the VELO.

Great Balanced Bat Rafi parent

Pros: This bat is the most balanced bat that I have found for a Drop 3. My Son uses a Drop 5 Omaha and his hands where fast and loved the way he got used to the feel of the bat as he transitioned from the Drop 10. Last Spring he had to use a drop 3 for his middle school and it was hard for him. I searched and the only bat that worked was the Easton S2 Half and Half. Till I saw the SOLO at a Sporting goods Store. I placed the Omaha -3 in the palm of my hand and the bat would fall off barral side. Placed the SOLO the same way and it just stayed put. You can see the difference in the 1st swing when Soft Tossing and He felt the balance with no End Load through his swing. Took him for some live Pitching and he was not Late and hitting to all fields. Some even hit the warning track. Great Bat for Smaller Kids that are not as Strong as others. Great Pop, Great Grip, Must Get Bat.

Cons: Bats are not ment to be White.

Louisville 617 Max Mckiernan player

Pros: Great bat if you're looking to have your bat for a week or less. Overall great pop and it feels really light for a 33 oz

Cons: I am now the fourth player in my high school program to have the knob break off of this bat. I kind of expected it to happen but not after a week of use.

solo 617 colbe player

Pros: Good bat with great pop. Got this bat from the return of my broken select 716. I really liked this bat and would defently buy it again if it was more durable

Cons: I got the bat on april 9th. On may 11th, the knob just randomly popped off when i swung in the middle of a game at bat. i was confused and angry about the fault especially since im not able to return it because of the one time one year warranty.

Solo Big ten player

Pros: Balanced bat, but the knob came off after three weeks. I do agree with another review, the Velo will last a lot longer. They both are extremely balanced bats. The Velo is much more durable.

Cons: Knob came off on two bats after two months of use.

Will not hold up/ knob is an obvious design flaw John O'Donnell Parent

Pros: My son really liked this bat and felt it had plenty of pop. We have purchased a number of bats and this one was his favorite, however, see the cons.

Cons: The bat has been replaced once already due to the knob breaking. It just happened again on the second one. The knob appears to be made of plastic that cracks inside the handle. It is not used for practice very much as he uses a wood bat for that. This issue is mentioned in several reviews and it is clearly a design flaw that Louisville Slugger needs to correct.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does this or the MAKO BEAST swing lighter? Which will be the better bat? Dave
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) will be the lighter feeling bat due to the composite end-cap on the end of the barrel. That design will make it easier to swing by a player. Both bats being considered are going to be high performing. However, when deciding between one bat or the other, you'll need to decide if you want a light feeling bat and also what design you would prefer to have on the bat (alloy bat w/composite end-cap like this Solo or two-piece, all-composite like the MAKO BEAST).
Ben
What will be the performance difference between this bat and the BBCOR 517? Not the model and material difference. jarvis
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 has a slightly lighter swing weight that helps generate a faster swing speed. However, the performance will be about the same as the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5173.
Angelique
Does the Solo have the same alloy as the 716? ToryJR
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is made out of a new SL Hyper alloy. The Select 716's barrel is made out of AC21 alloy.
Jason
I'm 14 years old and a 6'1 170 pound freshman. Is this bat right for me? If so, what size? MarkStevens
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is a great option for any player. It is a very balanced bat and helps provide quick bat speed. Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model.
Jason
I'm 5'9", 140 pounds, and playing high school ball. Would this bat be right for me? If so, what size? Gavin
If you prefer a one-piece aluminum bat, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 would be a good choice. It has a very light swing weight that helps to create quicker bat speed. For your height and weight, we recommend a 31" 28 oz. size.
Angelique
I'm 5'5" and 136 lbs. What size bat should I get? Cole
Based on your height and weight we would recommend getting a 31"/28oz 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173).
Carter
My son is 4'11" and weighs 90 lbs. What size bat do you recommend? Tim
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 29" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Jason
What bat would have a stiffer feel, the 617 or the 517? Which would have a lighter more balanced weight? My son has loved the Omaha series, but will be playing with a BBCOR for the first time. Mike
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) will offer a stiffer feel and is more balanced than the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5173). But they are both quality bats and if he has already loved the Omaha series I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Carter
Is this bat the closest thing to the 2013 Louisville Slugger EXO grid 3? peyton
Yes, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is a one-piece alloy design similar to the Louisville Slugger Exogrid.
Sean
If I am a contact hitter which would be better the LS Solo 617 or the 2017 Voodoo? jstat
Both the 2017 Solo 617 (BBSO6173) and the 2017 Voodoo (DXVBC) would be good models for a contact hitter, as both models have balanced swing weights.
Kyle J.
(1) What exactly does the composite end-cap do? (2) And does the composite end-cap change the sound of the bat hitting a ball? Max
(1) Since composite material is able to be made a little lighter feeling than alloy material, the composite end-cap will make the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) feel more balanced overall. (2) I am not sure that the composite end-cap makes the ping noise louder in every bat, but I do know that the VELO features a composite end-cap and the ping noise on that bat is very loud.
Ben
Most of the top-of-the-line bats have many reviews. Why cant I find many reviews of the 617 online? baseballdad
The reason that not many reviews of this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) can be found online is because the bat was just released this fall of 2016. Once more players get it in their hands to swing this upcoming Winter and Spring of 2017, I think you will be able to find more reviews online.
Ben
My son is a contact hitter, not a power hitter. How does the LS 617 compare to the Combat Maxum BBCOR bat and how do they differ other than materials? Bunz
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) will be an all-alloy bat with a composite end-cap. That design makes the bat very balanced. I would say that it is more balanced than the MAXUM. However, the MAXUM will have a longer barrel length to it, which is attractive to a lot of players (and the MAXUM is still decently balanced).
Ben
I just got this bat and I hit with it today, why do I here a little rattle in the barrel? It sounds like a little piece of something is just rattling around in the barrel. What could this be? Max
The ratting that you hear in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 (grains of sand or small pebble like sounds typically) is the result of the excess adhesive that is used to seal the end cap to the barrel of the bat. This is an issue that all bat manufacturers experience but it will not affect the performance of the bat (does give the bat a different sound though). When the excess adhesive dries it breaks off after first using the bat and lodges within the barrel.
Cameron
Which bat will be stiffer, the Solo 617, Omaha 517, or DeMarini Voodoo One? Ryan
All three of these bats, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173, 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5173, and the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo One BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVOC are one piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. Since all of these bats are of one piece construction and will not flex on impact we would rate the stiffness of these bats as similar; if there were any differences between the three it would be too small to quantify a difference.
Cameron
Does it have the ping like a metal bat or the nice crack of the other Louisville Slugger bats that almost sound like wood? AR
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) is going to have more of the "ping" sound like a metal bat due to its aluminum construction.
Carter
What's better, the Prime 917 or the Solo 617? trev
Both the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 and the Prime 917 are great bats to consider. These two bats are considerably different in the respect that the Solo is a one-piece all alloy bat with a balanced swing weight while the Prime 917 is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight. The main advantage of the Prime 917 is the vibration reduction that the two-piece bat offers.
Cameron
Is this bat for a power hitter? Ron
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) will be extremely balanced in its swing feel, but if that is the feel you prefer and you are a power hitter, then I would recommend it very highly for you.
Ben
My son is 5'11" 170 lbs freshman. What size should I buy for him? Jack
Your son is right at the top end, in terms of size, for a 32" 29oz 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173. He is just a few pounds from us recommending a 33" 30oz. I would suggest the 33" if you think he may grow some in the next few months before the season starts.
Logan
My grandson is about 6 ft. and 180 lbs junior. What do you recommend? Quis
Based on his height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 in a 33 inch 30 ounce model.
Cameron
Which bat has better exit speed velocity 517 or 617? RickR
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 have pretty similar exit velocity, but the Solo 617 has the lowest MOI and the fastest swing speed in the Louisville Slugger BBCOR line.
Logan
Which bat is better, this bat or the Rawlings 5150? ayy son
It would be tough to say one will perform significantly better than the other, but the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 has a slightly lighter swing weight so you could generate more bat speed with it over the 5150.
Logan
I am interested in purchasing this bat. I am in 10th grade, 130 lbs and 5'10". I currently swing a 32" but I am wondering if I should purchase a 33" and start getting used to it. Is there a big difference between the 32" and 33"? Cole
Based on your height and weight, a 32 inch bat would be a better option. As you get stronger then a 33 inch bat would be better since you are 5'10". If you wanted to get the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 in a 33 inch then it would be wise to choke up some on the handle.
Cameron
My son is 5'5" and weighs 140 lbs. What bat size should I get him? He needs a balanced bat. KEVIN
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 in a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Cameron
I'm 5'11" and 230 lbs. I hit for average with some power. What would be a good bat for me (need a BBCOR)? raisedinacage
Based your height and weight, I would recommend a 33" version of a BBCOR bat. if you prefer a one-piece design with a very balanced swing weight to it, I would recommend getting this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) very highly. It would work for a power or contact hitter.
Ben
My son is a freshman, is 6'1" tall and weighs 150 lbs. Would a 33" in this bat be right for him? Batman
Yes, a 33" bat length is what we would recommend for someone his height and weight.
Kyle J.
I'm 5'0" and 100 lbs. I'm playing middle school baseball. What's a good bat for me? kai
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a recommendation of getting a smaller BBCOR model of bat (if that is what is required for the middle school league). This 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) would be an excellent option of bat to consider since it is very balanced. I would look at the 29"/26 oz or 30"/27 oz size.
Ben
I'm 5'8" and 120 lbs. I hit for average. Mainly line drives. What is a good BBCOR bat for me? Jackson
For someone who is 5'8" and 120 lbs we would recommend getting a 32 inch bat that is balanced since you are more of a contact hitter. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is a great option to consider with its balanced swing weight and one-piece alloy design.
Cameron
My son is a high school junior, is 5'7" and weighs 155 lbs. Would a 32" in this bat be right for him? Pat
Based on your son's height and weight, getting a 32" or 33" in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 would be the best lengths to consider; all depend on what the hitter feels more comfortable with.
Cameron
I'm 6 feet tall, a power hitter with a lot of line drives. Is this a good bat for me? Jett7
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is a one-piece alloy bat with a balanced swing weight making it a good fit for both power and line drive type hitters. Early reviews have shown that the pop has been good.
Cameron
My one son is 4'10" 90 lb freshman and my other one is 5'7" and 140 lb junior. What sizes would you recommend for them both? Coach MP
Based on the freshman's height and weight, we suggest a 29" model. Based on the Juniors height and weight, we suggest a 32" model of the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Jason
My son is 13 years old and this is the first year that he is required to use a drop 3 bat. He is 5 foot 2 inches and 80- 90 pounds. Which bat do you recommend for him? Samuel
Based on his height and weight, I would suggest the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 in a 29" 26 oz size.
Logan
I am 5'11" and weigh 165 lbs. What size and weight bat should I get? connor
We would recommend a 32-33" length of bat for your size. For a BBCOR bat, that means either a 32"/29oz or a 33"/30oz.
Kyle J.
I'm 6'5" 130 pounds and 15 years old. I'm more of a double and triples kid rather than hit for power. Would you recommend this or the 917? mason
I would recommend the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) if you prefer aluminum bats and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9173) if you prefer composite and multi piece bats.
Carter
Will the 617 be the bat to replace the 716 from last year all in all? Or will they be making a new 717? Ethan
Louisville Slugger essentially ceased production of the 716 which was their hybrid model featuring an alloy barrel and composite handle. The bat that replaced this model was the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 but this bat is more in line with the Omaha as it is a one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. Unfortunately LS did not manufacturer a hybrid design in 2017.
Cameron
I'm 6 ft and 175 lbs. What size and weight is recommended for my size? jt
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) in the 33"/30 oz size.
Ben
I was absolutely in love with the 2013 LS Exogrid 3 BBCOR. I was wondering which best compares to the Exogrid (517,617,917)? Little Slugger
It is hard to say whether the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 or any other bat from LS will match closely with the former EXOGRID model they were manufacturing. Based on the specs of the EXOGRID, would say the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is going to be more similar in terms of swing weight design and performance.
Cameron
My son is 16 years old, 6' tall and about 140 lbs. Should I get him the 32" or 33" 617 BBCOR bat? dave
For his height and weight, we would recommend the 33" length.
Kyle J.
I'm 5'2 and I am a freshman in high school. Should I get a 31" or 32" inch model on this bat? Antonio
Based upon your height, I would recommend going with a 31" version of this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) to get the best fit for now. However, if you wanted something with which he could grow, I would suggest the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) in the 32" length.
Ben
I am 5'7" and weigh 143. Would you recommend a 32" or 33" for me? johnny baseball
I would recommend a 32" for a player with your height and weight.
John
I am 13, 5"7 and 105, should I go with the 31 or 32? Cole
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 31"/28 ounce 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173).
Carter
I am 6'1" 130 lbs. What size should I get? robert
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Jason
I am a contact/average hitter, what would be better the Solo 617 or the Prime 917? Tiernan
Both the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 and the Prime 917 have balanced swing weights and are great options for a contact hitter. The Solo 617 tends to feel more balanced and lighter swinging overall, but the Prime 917 is better at preventing sting or vibration because of the two-piece design.
Jason
What is better for a contact hitter the VELO, the Prime 917 or the Solo 617? Tiernan
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173, Prime 917 and Rawlings VELO are all excellent bats that will feature balanced swing weights. Since all bats are balanced they each are great selections for a contact hitter.
Cameron
I am 6'4 and 253.3 lbs. What size should I get? Where is the 35 inch? big daddy
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 in the 34" 31 oz. size. The reason there isn't a 35" is due to the fact that 34" is the largest Louisville Slugger makes.
Logan
Where is the 35 inch? dinger
We do not have this bat in a 35" length.

Is there a compatible drop version of this bat? 13 yr old in 14 u division with no drop regulation. Only 1.15 stamp. Need a great suggestion for something as quick and balanced as this 617. CrowKane
While the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 is only available in the BBCOR version the 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5175) would be a great option for a 13 year old.
Carter
Which bat has more pop, the Louisville Slugger 917 or 617? Batesee1326
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 and the Prime 917 are equally good performing bats and it is tough to say one has more pop than the other. The Solo 617 tends to feel more balanced to most players because of the composite end cap though. While the Prime 917 is better at preventing sting and vibration because of the two-piece design.
Jason
I am 14, 5'4" and weigh around 115. I was wondering if it would be best for me to get the 32" or the 31. I'll be playing in high school next year. porterhouse
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 31"/28 ounce 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173).
Carter
Will it have lots of pop when broken in? Caleb
This 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) has an aluminum barrel and should not require a break-in period to display top performance. The bat should be ready for game-use right out of the wrapper.
Ben
Have you taken care of the issue of the knob popping off of this bat? Tony
Louisville slugger has not changed the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 since the release.
Max
Which bat would be best for a two hole contact hitter, the Solo 617 or the Omaha 517? I am 5'11" tall and 140 pounds, and I am currently using the Omaha 517, 32"/-3 with my school. Shawn
Both of these bats are excellent choices for contact hitters. The Solo 617 is claimed to having the fastest swing speed in the 2017 Louisville Slugger lineup, so that is something to consider if you are looking for bat speed.
Kyle J.
I don't know what size I should get. I am 5'7" and 170 pounds; about to be 15 in August and going to be a sophomore in August. chris m
I would suggest the 32'' in the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Max
Why would such a great website continue to sell a bat which has a defect? After getting a warranty replacement, the knob broke off on both bats after 2 weeks of use. bob m
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 does feature a 12 month manufacturer's warranty. If having issues with the knob of this bat we would recommend reaching out to LS through their online warranty process to initiate a claim.

I am trying to decide whether I want a hybrid bat or a fully alloy. I am 5'7", 15, and 140 lbs and going to be a sophomore. If an alloy, which would you recommend the 617 or 517? And if hybrid, would you recommend the Voodoo Insane or the balanced? AFERN34
If seeking an alloy bat I would go with the Omaha 517 over the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173. This is due to the durability being better with the 517. As for a bat featuring a hybrid design, the Voodoo balanced model would be the best option for someone of your height, weight and age.
Cameron
I am 6 foot and 230 pounds, should I get the 34 inch or 33 inch? big man
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 33" 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Logan
If I'm 6' about 240 lbs. Would you recommend a 33" or a 34"? baseballer
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend going with a 33" bat of this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173). However, at your size, if you felt ready to use the 34"/31 oz size, I think that would be just fine.
Ben
What are the main differences between this bat and the Omaha besides the cosmetics, the end cap, and the knob? balled
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 features new SL Hyper Alloy which offers a stiffer feel, and a composite end cap to help create the lightest swinging Louisville Slugger bat in their lineup. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5173 features ST 7U1+ Alloy for a larger sweet spot.
Logan
Which bat is more balanced? The Rawlings VELO or the 617? DingerNation

Cameron
I am 5'3" and 105 pounds, what size bat should I get? R

Cameron
I'm 5'6 120 pound going into freshman year. What size bat should I be swinging? dinger
I would recommend swinging the 32'' 29 oz for the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Max
My son is 5'1", 117 lbs and is required to use a BBCOR now. He used a -5, 31" bat last season. What size and bat would you recommend for him? ny
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of a 30" BBCOR bat. However, if your player was fine using the 31"/26 oz size in the past, I think a 31"/28 oz size of a BBCOR should work well too (may require a little bit of an adjustment period). Sadly, we no longer have this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) in the 30" or 31" length option.
Ben
Would a power hitter prefer this, the Prime, or the Omaha? Donkey
All of the bats listed are going to feature balanced swing weights. The preference depends on what the player wants. The Omaha is a one peace, all aluminum bat. The Prime is a two piece composite bat. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) is a one piece, aluminum bat with a composite end-cap. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) may feel a bit more balanced than the other bats due to the end-cap being composite. ultimately, the decision comes down to the individual preference of the player.
Mick

Carter
My son is 4'8" & 85 lbs. Would you suggest the 30"/27 oz size -or- the 29"/26 oz size? BMan
Based upon your player's height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get this 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) in the 29"/26 oz size.
Ben
I'm 5'10" tall and 150 lbs. Should I get a 32 or 33 inch bat? Crob
We would recommend a 32" length for your size.
Kyle J.
I am 5/3 120 pounds and growing should I get a Rawlings VELO or the Solo? Also, what size 31"/28 or a 32"/29? bomb squad
The ideal size for you based on your height and weight would be a 31"/ 28 oz. The bats are very similar. The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) has a lizard skin grip whereas the Velo has the standard. both are on piece alloy. The main difference is brand. Whatever brand you swing currently, if you like it i'd stick with it.
Mick
I am 5 feet and about 95 pounds. Would this bat be good for me or would you recommend another bat? gabe
The 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 is a one-piece alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. This bat, in a 29 or 30 inch model, would be a great option to consider for someone of your height and weight.
Cameron
What size would you recommend? Player is currently 12 years old and 5'5"/105 lbs. He wants to break it in during fall ball and use it in the spring. Then, he will be 13 and likely 5'6"/5'7" and 110-115 lbs. He used a 31" -10 Mako for Little League this past season. JR
Based on his height and weight, it is suggested that he uses a 31" bat. He can certainly go to a 32" bat if he wants too. Thinking about the future, the weight for a 13 year old is typically a drop 5. Getting adjusted to the drop 5 now will help him jump to the drop 3 in the future when he plays in high school.
Mick
I see several reviews where the knob on the end has broken off. Has this flaw been addressed in this model for bats being shipped out now? mslong
Unfortunately, we have not heard if Slugger has done anything about this issue. However, we have heard less complaints about knobs falling off so they may have addressed this.
Dan

Based on your height and weight, we would suggest a 33" model of the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173.
Jason
I am 14 years old, 5'5" and 120 lbs. I am looking for a one piece bat that will have a ton of pop and give me power and confidence at the plate. Should I get the Solo 617 or the Marucci Cat 7? Marc
Both bats are excellent choices that will perform very well. For 2017 models, both have sold and done well, but I believe the Marucci Cat 7 was one of our top models this year.
Kyle J.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
