Softball Recruiting: How to Get Noticed

Hi, I’m Carie Dever Boaz and I’m here to talk to you about what can you do to get noticed as a softball player. And that’s not just to get noticed for teams but to get yourself into college. Let’s face it girls, college is your keys to the kingdom to be able to do whatever you want. It’s your keys to your professional career to get some of your education paid for and do it by doing something you love and that’s playing softball. I coached for 16 years in the collegiate level so I think I got a lot of insight for ya as far as what you’re looking for. Because that’s what coaches are looking for. Softball players are a dime a dozen. Lots of ‘em can field, lots of ‘em can throw, pitch and hit. Technology has taken this game to a whole nother level. What are you doing when you fail? How do you handle striking out? How do you handle giving up a home run? How are you warming up? What are you doing with your team? Are you trying to get your teammates to follow you? Are you a leader? It’s the intangibles that are things that coaches at the collegiate level don’t have time to teach. They are there to win which has changed a lot over the last 25 years. We used to be athletes that went there to make all the other athletes look good and now you’re there to win. So you have someone like Patrick Murphy, he’s looking for the intangibles. What do you, what do you want to do to help take Alabama to that next level? And you’re looking at what I can do on the field, off the field. Do you do community service? Are you working camps and clinics? Do you go to those coaches at their camps? Can you shake their hand, look ‘em in the eye, introduce yourself and tell ‘em who you are? I think the best thing for some of these young kids to do and their parents is take some marketing, take what networking is. How do you build a business? You are a commodity and what are you gonna do to set yourself apart? Cause it does matter. And let’s face it, there are always young eyes watching you and those young eyes are gonna turn into you and wanna be just like you and it’s your keys to the kingdom and gets you in the next college that you wanna play ball at.
