Description

This is the BEST Prodigy yet. The hottest-selling youth big barrel bat is back again this season with a fresh new look and a new, stronger alloy. The Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 draws it's name from its legit performance and its new GX4 Alloy construction. Worth's GX4 Alloy is its strongest yet, which allows for the thinnest walls and shells for absolute MAXIMUM trampoline effect! If you've ever swung a Prodigy before, you'll notice a stark difference in durability as well. One thing that's stayed the same though is the HUGE 2 3/4 inch barrel. This creates the largest hitting surface in the game, so you can CRUSH anything that comes your way! At the end of the barrel, a Center Load end cap is designed to allow increased barrel flexibility. The taper to the handle is 30% thinner due to Whiplash Technology, resulting in reduced weight and increased bat speed. In addition, the Prodigy Legit GX4 features a balanced weight distribution for maximum control and consistency. This Worth bat is also proudly designed and manufactured in the U.S.A. Worth: 100 Years of Performance Through Technology! The Prodigy Legit GX4 features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: This bat has been great. Do not use in cold weather. If temperature is in question, use some kind of bat warmer. Microwave hot pack in your bag with towels works well. We have owned just about every model and only a few have had slight flat spot or a rattle in the handle after full season of use. And those were replaced. I would bet most of these problems were at the beginning of season below 70 degrees

Cons: Having to take special care to keep it warm in cool westher and not being able to use in cold early season games

Pros: My 9 year old loves this bat over RIP-IT, Easton, DeMarini and COMbat. He used this the most throughout the year and has more pop then any of the other bats and the best balance. He liked RIP-IT a close second but that bat dented quite a bit. Guess what? This one did not dent or crack! And he is an aggressive hitter who hits the ball well and often. Idk, maybe he uses the sweet spot and not the end of the bat. But all in all, I have seen almost every bat out there dent! And unfortunately, it's going to happen with production and quality these days.

Cons: None, great price! Made it through the season including last fall and winter games. Nice job, Worth!

Pros: Good bat. Stop using your good bats for BP. Get a BP bat (wood or 2 1/4) and save this bat for games.

Great bat!!! Rob coach

Pros: Great pop! Bought two of these bats, and haven't had the cracking and denting issues others have complained about. Maybe Worth has fixed the problem. Our entire 12u team is using my son's bat because they hit so well with it.

Cons: You may end up sharing with the whole team!

Not as durable as I'd hoped Coach R. coach

Pros: Great pop! Well balanced, for improved swing speed. Made my son a better hitter.

Cons: This is a good bat at this price point, but it will dent and crack if you're not careful, as almost all 2 3/4" -10 bats will. This is NOT a practice bat, nor is it a bat you should use on cold days (a baseball's density skyrockets below 60 degrees). Also, stay away if your child is a "power hitter", but it is fine for average hitters. Resist the temptation to share with the rest of your team.

Great first Ben parent

Pros: This is the first bat I have bought that wasn't from your local sporting goods store. Son got picked up by a local travel team so needed to get a little more serious and a friend recommended justbats.com to me. Price and reviews on this bat are amazing. 28-18, nice balance and great pop. Has helped my little guy, U8 travel, go from an infield hitter to most shots to the grass now. This bat with solid mechanics has helped build his confidence and makes him a real threat when at the plate; and when you get a hold of the ball with this bat, everyone within four ball fields knows about it... great sound! I can't comment on durability as we only just bought it but with 10-12 games and 150 or so balls in the yard... no dents or flaws so far. Son says when he gets a hold of the sweet spot you don't feel a thing and has never complained of pain when hitting lower on the barrel. Moving to U9 kid pitch in the fall and don't plan on buying another bat any time soon.

Cons: None

Works Well Scott other

Pros: Seems durable, Kid's like the feel and looks. Although the bat by its measurement would seem rather large and hard to swing, the weight is distributed well and can be swung simliar to a much lighter weight traditional type of bat (i.e. not a big barrel)

Cons: Haven't quite seen as much pop as I would have expected, but I think some of that is due to the larger bat weight, I think as my kids grow in size, the speed will increase as will the pop. Hard to really give a rating for the durability as we have only been using the bat now about three weeks.

Best youth bat out here Adam Miller coach

Pros: My son has both the 17/27 and 18/28 and this is by far the best bat he has ever used. Many on the team switched to using his bat as well. Bar none, this is the best youth bat and we've used many (including all of the over-priced Easton models).

Cons: We misplaced the 17/27....not really a con, but I'll have to order another one!

Pros: Cheap starter bat.

Cons: Cracks easily, sweet spot is micro small. It is wise to move up to a Demarini if swinger has above average power.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLPL10? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

New alloy or same alloy with a new name? Also, by looking at the pictures and using ratios, the barrel appears to be slightly larger than the 2013 Red SLP10 Prodigy Legit. Is that true? Traveling Baseball Guru
Great question. The 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 Senior League bat will have a new higher quality Alloy. The new GX4 Alloy is Worth's strongest alloy and much more durable than the Lithium Alloy of the past. Barrel sizing should still run true to previous models.
Brandon
Does this bat have stickers on the barrel like the Red Prodigy Legit or have they corrected that and gone back to using just paint on the barrel? TXCoach
The 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 Senior League bat does not feature any stickers used for their logos or wording.
Tyler
How does this bat compare to the Louisville Slugger Omaha Balanced? Which would you recommend? team coach
Both the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 and 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha XL: SL136XL are one-piece alloy bats that are well balanced. Based on customer feedback and information from the manufacturers, I would give a slight edge to the Prodigy in terms of pop, but the Omaha would get a leg up when it comes to durability. As far as which is recommended... it comes down to what you value more in your bat, pop or durability.
Tyler
Would this be a good bat for 12u baseball? Berndt
Yes, the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 is going to be a great bat compared to other bats in the $200 price range, and will be perfect for someone playing 12u baseball.
Noah
What is the difference between the SLP234 and the SLPL10? Greg
Both of these bats are very similar, but the alloy used in the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 is going to be more durable than the alloy used in the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit: SLP234 Senior League.
Noah
My 8 year old son has used a Worth Lithium Prodigy YBJP10 27 inch and loves it but they do not make it in 28 inch. Would the Prodigy SLPL10 28 inch be a good bat for him with similar pop? I am wondering if he will lose pop with this senior league bat with new GX4 alloy. He plays in 8u coach pitch. Milford
You won't get as much pop in the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 Senior League bat, but not because of the alloy. The walls of the barrel are thick on senior league bats than they are on coach pitch (junior big barrel) bats. Thicker walls produce less trampoline effect on the ball.
Kevin
My son really loves the 2012 bat. Is it really worth $70 to get the new model over buying the old model? jake
The Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 is a great bat. I would recommend staying with what you have had success with.
Justin R.
I love my Anderson TechZilla 2009 for little league, but for my club team I want a big barrel. Is this a good choice as an Anderson alternative? Autto
The 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 will have a different balancing than the Anderson TechZilla, but you should be able to adapt easily.
Kevin
Is there a problem with this bat cracking? I love the pop with the Worth, but i'm concerned about the customer reviews regarding durability. Trey
Yes, there have been some durability problems with the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4, but they are all under warranty.
Noah
I bought a Worth bat last year for my son from this website that seems very similar to this one. I don't really remember the model number, but it was white, 31 in 21 oz, with a 2 3/4 barrel and was a special order made for Justbats.com. He really loved that bat. How does this one compare to the white one? Travis
The 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 will be the newer model of the special edition white Worth bat. The main difference is the 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 uses new GX4 alloy for better durability and performance.
Kara
I am looking at a new bat for my son, how does this bat compare to the Easton S3 or not? Recommendations? Suggestions? Alfredo
The 2013 Worth Prodigy Legit GX4: SLPL10 Senior League and the 2013 Easton S3: SL13S310B are both one-piece alloy bats. They will be similar in performance and durability.
Kara
Is this a youth bat? Can it be used for a 9-10 yr old? DJ
Yes, the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 (SLPL10) is made for youth. This would be a great bat for a 9-10 year old. The classification of "Senior League" designates it as a Youth Big Barrel bat. Our page designates "Youth" bats as bats with a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. "Senior League" or "Youth Big Barrel" bats have a diameter of 2 5/8" or 2 3/4".
Justin R.
Is this bat hot out of the box or does it need break-in? Nikko
The alloy barrel on the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 (SLPL10) should be ready to go out of the wrapper and should not require a break-in period.
Patrick
Is this Worth GX4: SPL10 bat end loaded or balanced? Coach Art
The Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 (SLPL10 Senior League) will have more of a balanced feel to the swing weight. It should not feel barrel heavy or end loaded.
Brandon
Is this the 2013 or 2014 model? Dizzy
The Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) will be a 2013 bat model.
Brandon
Is there a 2014 version? Is this bat or the 2014 Assault (SLAS14-RX) for best all around bat? TONY
The Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) has been replaced by the 2015 Rawlings Prodigy Senior League Baseball Bat (SLRPRO). Between the Prodigy and the Assault, both models are very similar to each other. They both have a balanced swing weight and a one-piece fully alloy design. Both bats are high performance models, ultimately, it will be a matter of brand preference.
Tessa
Is this bat designed for pitching that is above 50 mph? bbdad
Yes, the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) should handle pitch speeds at 50 mph and above.
Brandon
This bat does not have the same temperature restrictions as a composite bat, correct? In other words it's alright to use this in colder weather. jeff
While alloy material bats such as the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) do have a bit better durability in cold weather, both types of bats will see issues when used in cold weather. It is rather the density of the ball in cold weather when it connects with the bat.
Frankie
How does the Prodigy GX4 SLPL10 compare to the SLPG10? Which is more durable? Which is reported to have more pop? alumiu
Really the only difference between the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) & the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPG10) is going to be cosmetic. Both bats feature the same design, materials, and features. Both are going to perform very similarly.
Jake

About the Brand

Worth, Inc. can trace its beginning back to the year 1912, when George Sharp Lannom, Jr. purchased a tannery in Tullahoma, Tennessee and established the Lannom Manufacturing Company. Initially, the firm tanned leather for harnesses and horse collars they manufactured. However, as the automobile grew in popularity, the demand for the company's harnesses and collars declined, so Lannom shifted its manufacturing resources toward production of leather covered baseballs and softballs under the "Worth" brand, and men's leather dress gloves under the "Craig" brand.

Charles (Chuck) E. Parish joined Lannom in 1930 as a salesman and married G.S. Lannom, Jr.'s daughter, Martha Lannom several years later. Following Mr. Lannom's death, Parish acquired controlling interest in the company, which led to a division of company assets between himself and Lannom's son G.S. Lannom III. Lannom maintained the glove works while Parish, "The Baron of Baseballs," built the Lannom baseball business into the world's largest manufacturer of baseballs.

Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1959, Chuck Parish's son, John, joined the Lannom organization. He persuaded his father to expand the company's Caribbean operations and enter the baseball bat business in 1970. In 1975, following the death of his father, John Parish took over the reigns of the company. Under his leadership, the company diversified and expanded its production line and developed the personnel, technical know-how, and physical facilities to become one of the largest and most financially sound manufacturers in the entire sporting goods industry.

The WorthSports Company was formally organized in 1975 as the sales and marketing arm for all sporting goods products and divisions of Lannom. In addition to the normal marketing functions, Worth also emphasizes and provides new product research and development. In fact, the emphasis placed on this development is largely responsible for Worth's leadership role in the sporting goods industry.

When Worth entered the bat business all bats were made from Northern White Ash. Worth then established wood mills in Pennsylvania and New York to provide the strong but relatively lightweight ash wood stock. Then directions were shifted to aluminum and other composites and in 1968 Lannom Manufacturing produced its first aluminum bat. The company's Jess Heald was primarily responsible for its development. The sale of aluminum bats to amateur baseball and softball players mushroomed in the 70's, helping Lannom achieve record results. In 1994, because of market demands, more emphasis was placed on the aluminum division and an expansion was completed in Tullahoma.

One of the first and most significant results of the R&D program was the development of the Polyurethane (Poly-X™) core for baseballs and softballs. This one innovation revolutionized the entire softball world; up to this time, the traditional softball core was constructed of cork and latex. Worth, through the use of "petrochemical" formulation, created a softball that was more consistent in performance and demonstrated extended durability, thereby setting the stage for the establishment of formal specifications and standards for the industry. More recently, the expanded research and development team has made another revolutionary addition to the aluminum bats called the SuperCell EST (Exterior Shell Technology) Bat.

One product Worth is very proud of is its RIF (Reduced Injury Factor) baseballs and softballs. Introduced in baseballs in the late '80's, the RIF design features a polyurethane center that makes the ball softer than the traditional yarn wound ball, while keeping the weight, size and liveliness. The balls are used mainly in youth leagues, where safety is of major concern. The technology is now being used in Worth softballs as well. New technology is constantly being developed to revolutionize the softball industry as we know it today.

In 2007, Worth was acquired by Jarden Corporation and is now a division of Rawlings and Jarden Team Sports.
