It does have a slightly different sound, a little more muted. Not quite the ping sound.

How does it compare to the Demarini White Steel? Booty
Both are high quality alloy slow pitch bats. In my opinion, the White Steel has a little more of an end-loaded feel while the Rival is more balanced. Both perform great, but I would give a slight edge to the Steel.

Is this bat 100% aluminum? If not can you recommend a nice bat that is? They currently changed the rules in the softball league I play in and have outlawed composite bats. Nick

This bat is made of aluminum, so it will have the traditional "ping" sound. If you click on the speaker icon in the upper right hand corner of the big picture of this bat, you can actually hear this bat hitting a ball. This will let you know if it is similar to the sound you have in mind or not.

The bat was discontinued as it was originally released several years ago and manufacturers generally stop making a model once the next year's bats are released.
