dented after 10 pitches Camden parent

Pros: Looks great Decent balance and feel 12 month warranty - you're going to need it....

Cons: Incredibly small sweet spot - pick up some batting gloves to deal with the vibration otherwise Durability - dented somewhere in the span of 10 soft coach pitches to my 6 year old (now i have to ship it back on my dime in hopes that they will honor their warranty). Not worth the money in my opinion.

Nice Bat Travel Ball Coach coach

Pros: Light weight, balanced bat helps create bat speed. Son is a smaller Jr. High player and can't swing the -3 big barrel. Bought this bat and he now refuses to use his big barrel bats even though travel ball allows them. 2nd year with this bat and it has held up very well. He loves it! P.S. Don't buy a bat for your kid to grow into. Get the appropriate size for your child.

Cons: Regarding pop, I don't believe a bat is responsible for the distance a ball travels. A proper swing with good bat speed is the answer. Keep working on your swing! Vibration: Again, a proper swing will take care of you. In colder weather my son will complain of hand sting when he gets jammed inside or hits the ball off the end of the bat. He also recognizes that not squaring up the ball properly on the bat is the cause of the sting.

Nice PING for the buck! Steve coach

Pros: Bought this bat in 28/15 for my 8 year old playing in a machine pitch league because he was complaining that the much more expensive Easton S2 stung his hands too much. He hits just as well if not better with it and doesn't complain about sting at all. Other kids on the team are using it as well because the like that ping.

Cons: None so far.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat: YB5R13? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I am looking at an Easton s300 and this bat but I can't decide. I have not been able to see one of these bats (except for a picture) and I noticed the Easton has such a small sweet spot. Is this Rawlings bat a better choice? Does it have a bigger sweet spot and which one has better pop? rockhound
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat (YB5R13) is going to have a smaller sweet spot when compared to the Easton S200 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL14S200) but one is a youth bat while the later is a senior league bat. To give you a better comparison model both would need to be of the same standards. Your next best option to possibly consider at your current price point would be the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 Youth Baseball Bat (YBO5163).
Cameron
The same as the question above. I'm comparing this Rawlings 5150 youth bat to the Easton S300 youth bat. Can you tell me the difference, sweet spot, vibration, feedback....etc... Jrbatter
The difference between the 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat (YB5R13) and the 2015 Easton S300 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S300) is the alloy used (5150 alloy will be of higher quality). Being that both bats are one-piece, the vibration will be the same for both. As for sweet spot, the Rawlings is a drop 13 so the sweet spot will be slightly bigger but less concentrated compared to the drop 12 of the Easton S300. At this time we don't have any feedback on these two bats.

Will this bat compare to a VELO wood bat? Ken
This 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat (YB5R13) will be evenly balanced in its weighting just like the Rawlings wood bat options bearing the VELO name. However, we will not have any Youth wood bats from Rawlings bearing the same VELO name (nothing to compare closely to this bat).

My six year old son league uses a pitching machine at 38 mph. The last three bats we purchased have dented. How will this bat do against a pitching machine? matt
The 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat: YB5R13 will hold up adequately against a pitching machine that is pitching at 38 MPH.

How does this bat compare to the Easton XL3? Djromer
This 2016 Rawlings 5150 Alloy Youth Baseball Bat (YB5R13) will have an all-alloy build like an XL3 model from Easton. However, the weighting on the bats will differ as this 5150 model has a balanced swing weight while the XL3 has an end-loaded swing weight. As well, this 5150 has a -13 length-to-weight ratio while the XL3 is made with a -11 length-to-weight ratio (if you are wanting the 2 1/4" diameter option of the XL3).

Is it Little League approved? Beatle

How does this bat compare to the S2? Shane

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
