Description

Increase your swing VELOcity with the Rawlings 5150 VELO! The 5150 VELO features an incredibly lightweight design and thinner walls to help players increase their swing speed and hit the ball further. The VELO is made from Rawlings 5150 Alloy that features unmatched durability that provides 10x more strength than traditional alloys. This allows Rawlings to make the barrel walls much thinner to produce a lighter swing weight. But that's not all. The 5150 VELO is also assisted by Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology that lowers the swing weight and surrounds the maximum rebound zone with thin walls to create additional barrel flex. The precision manufacturing techniques used by Rawlings give players the maximum allowable performance by a BBCOR baseball bat. Maximum allowable performance, an increased swing speed, and thin walls will equate to one thing: MORE POWER AT THE PLATE! A stiff handle design produces consistent feel so that players can swing for the fences each and every time up. Rawlings: Maximum Performance Where it Matters Most on the Field! The 5150 VELO is BBCOR Certified. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: This BBCOR bat is like none other out on the market. I have tried many BBCOR bats and this one was easily the best. The balance of the bat is amazing and far better than most BBCOR's. The pop on this bat is BESR comparable. All of the coaches at my organization unamimously agreed this is the best BBCOR on the market.

Cons: Grip tape is very good, but doesn't last very long

Pros: Just got this bat the other day. Is a lot more balanced than anyother bbcor bats I have felt. THe pop on this bat seeems very good for bbcor and is comparable to BESR. The graphics are cool too, the barrel is very long. Grip seems good, not to thich and hands do not slip easily.

Cons: None yet, some say grip doesn't last long.

Pros: This bat isn't top heavy at all and has great balance.Hits great and actually sounds pretty good to be a BBCOR bat. I have tried the TPX exo, the rawlings machine, Prototype 2 and have picked up a vodoo (top heavy) but this is my favorite.

Cons: I really dont see any cons but we have only been using it for about 3 weeks.

Pros: Great bat! Seems to be weighted just off the handle, which allows you to accelerate through the zone. The pop is not what we came to expect from BESR, but is very good. Comparing to other BBCOR's (Marrucci, Nike, Demarini, and Louisville Slugger), this bat is, in my opinion, superior. I had a Z1000 and have since put it away, in order to swing this Rawlings. It also has a different "ping" sound, similiar to BESR aluminum bats. The price also makes it a very good buy, compared to the other bats on the market.

Pros: It seems like every bat on the market is "the best BBCOR bat ever made!" and has "more pop than a BESR!" I can honestly say that this bat is the best BBCOR i have swung this year. I've used an Easton XL1 and an S2, the original 5150, a Marucci Black and an Omaha, and the 5150 velo is the best hands down. Swings light, hits like a 2 piece, but solid like a 1 piece. It's definitely worth every penny.

Cons: It's got a pretty significant rattle for hitters who aren't as strong, especially when compared to the Marucci black. However, if you've got good bat speed, you can't beat the pop of this bat.

Pros: I bought this 2 in different lengths for 2 sons. The older, HS Jr, power hitter loved the balance and hit very well. I have always spent way more on hitting lessons vs. bats but this is a great price.

Pros: I used this bat my sophomore year as a team bat and loved it. would this bat be good for a contact hitter Jake
Yes, this is a very good bat for contact hitters.
Sean
How does this years bat compare to last years. Im debating which to get Matt
This has a longer barrel and is designed to increase bat speed.
Linda
HOW IS THE POP OFF THE BAT COMPARED TO THE 5150 B
The Velo has Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology, so it has tremendous pop!
Linda
Son used it in BP great pop nice sound... Son picked due to balanced feel, think it was a good choice ball was jumping off bat
Htown
is the velo5150 better than the regular 5150 and why? Bill
They are actually quite similar in design. The Velo is designed to have a slightly lower MOI for more bat speed.
Linda
Would you guys prefer this or the Demarini Voodo or the Rip It prototype? Ehahn28
Depends on if your preference is 1 or 2 piece bats, or if you prefer balanced or slight end weighting, alloy or composite. Each one of those bats offer something different. Voodoo is outstanding 2 piece, slight end weighted, composite handle, alloy barrel, great pop, the Prototype is a 1 piece all alloy, immediate pop, vibration reduction handle, nice balance. The Velo is 1 piece extended barrel for a huge sweet spot, nice balance, great pop.
Linda
which bat would be better for a contact hitter this 5150 easton s2 or easton s3 Rob
These are all going to be great bats for a contact hitter. The S2 and 5150 are going to be the best out of these 3 to use. They are both going to be what you are looking for.
Todd
would you recommend this bat over the 5150? gimo
Both of these bats have the same alloy, this will be more of a personal preference. This bat is very similar to the original 5150.
KG
Will there be a huge noticeable difference between the Velo 5150 and a full composite BBCOR bat? If so, which composite bat would you suggest? My son is a contact hitter. Pat
The Velo would be a nice choice. It is nicely balanced and has a nice pop.
Linda
is the velo weighted the same as the old 5150? and do the bats have about the same pop? zack
This bat is designed to give the player a faster swing speed. This bat is made of the same materials as the older 5150 and will have similar pop.
KG
Which rawlings bat do you prefer? bigmike
The VELO is just a newer model of the 5150 alloy. Both are going to perform similar to each other.
K.B.
My son is more of a power hitter, sounds like the velo may give him a little more pop & bat speed vs the 5150? Does it have the same balance/feel as the old 5150? Thanks!! daviedawg
The Velo would be an excellent bat. It's nicely balanced, has the longer barrel for a bigger sweet spot, and great pop.
Linda
How is the pop compared to the old 5150? And are the 2 bats weighted the same? Zack
The pop is going to be similar to the 5150. Both bats are going to be weighted the same.
K.B.
is this going to be en loaded bballfreak123
This is going to be a very well balanced bat and will have very good pop.
KG
what is the difference between this and the one with black writing? Ty
Both models use the same 5150 alloy. The VELO is just a newer model.
K.B.
Is the barrel size on the 32" 29 oz bat the same diameter as the BESR 5150 EXOGRID bat? Rawlings Gold Rush bat had a noticeable difference which was smaller compared to the EXOGRID and other 5150 BESR bats; you could see and feel the difference. WHITT
Yes. The barrel diameter on the 5150 Velo will be the same as the 5150 Exogrid. I'm not sure about the Rawlings Rush Gold, as that bat has been discontinued for quite some time, but I do remember that it had a more significant taper than your average adult bat.
TJ
Is this bat made with the same materials as last years regular 5150 model? Last years bat had great pop, will this model have the same? thanks. steve
Yes. This bat is made of the same materials, the only difference will be that the Velo is designed to have lighter swing speeds than the 5150. Both bats have great pop and will be very durable.
KG
my team just bought this bat, the old 5150 and the new voodoo. which bat is the best for a heavy pull hitter? trojanboi
The Velo should work really well for him.
Linda
What are the differences in the BB51V and BBCA Rawlings 5150 models. Tighe
These two bats are very similar. About the only difference you'll see is in the swing there will be what the manufacturer refers to as a lower MOI or Moment of Inertia. This is designed to increase swing velocity.
Bodie
main differences between this and the $199 easton power brigade xl? Nate
The Velo will be a one piece all alloy bat with a balanced feel. The XL3 is going to be a one piece alloy design as well but will have more of an endload feel to the bat.
John
Which is better? This bat or the Machine? Topher
Either bat would be a great choice.
Shelbe
Does the Velo BB51V or the 5150 BBCA have a longer barrel? Nick
The Velo has a slightly longer barrel than the 5150.
Kara
What, if any, difference is there between the 5150 Velo and the regular 5150 besides the paint? Barracuda
The Velo is designed for lighter swing speeds and has a balanced weight.
KG
Does this bat meet the requirements for use in high school play for 2012? It would also be used for Little League Seniors. Falcon
This bat is BBCOR certified, which makes it legal for high school and collegiate play. Based on the information I have, this will also be legal for Senior League Baseball. I would suggest checking with your league director to make sure though.
Jennifer
I am looking for the most balanced BBCOR bat I can find. Which one would be a good choice? Please make a specific recommendation. rush67
An Easton S1, S2, or S3, the Rawlings 5150 Velo, the DeMarini Voodoo, and the Rip-It Prototype II are all going to be some of the most balanced bats we have, just to name a few. If you need any further assistance in trying to select the right bat, give us a call at 1-866-321-2287.
Jennifer
Is this bat a good transition from -8, -5 bats? Harry Potter
The BB51V is lightweight and balanced. It is perfect for a player making the transition to a BBCOR bat.
KB
How does this bat compare to Rawling's earlier BBCOR 5150. I've hit with the first model and I like it alot, I'm trying to decide whether to buy the earlier model or this one. teb
The VELO is designed to be more balanced and lighter weight.
KB
Is the Velo a one piece or a two piece bat design? mjb
The Rawlings 5150 Velo is a one piece bat. For more one piece aluminum adult bats like this one, check out this link: http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~adult/approved%20for~bbcor/material~aluminum/
Jennifer
The Velo is a one piece all alloy bat.
Kara
How does this bat compare with the COMbat B3 BBCOR bat? Without being biased, which would you recommend? Alex
Depends on the hitter. The Velo will have a lighter swing weight and I would recommend that one for a contact hitter looking to improve swing speed. The B3 may feel a little more endloaded and is great for stronger hitters with good swing speed
Tyler
What's the difference between this Velo and the identical Velo with the black letters? Jcircs
These bats are all the same, just different models. This Velo is an adult bat. The others on the website that have black letters are youth and senior league bats.
Jennifer
Is this bat better than the 5150 alloy that's $199? rawlings
The Velo is a newer model. It is more balanced than the 5150. Both are high performing bats.
KB
Is the Velo the same exact bat as the basic 5150 w/ the exception of an improved end cap, or are there other differences.? If so, what are they? jim
The Rawlings 5150 Velo has a lighter swing weight and is designed to increase the swing velocity. It will feel more balanced than the regular Rawlings 5150.
Jennifer
What has been the better bat, the Machine or 5150 Velo? DK
Rawlings is manufacturing very good BBCOR bats this year. All three of their models have been very popular and we have seen great reviews. The Machine has a composite handle, alloy barrel with a slight end loaded feel, and the VELO is a very balanced bat, one piece design. Both bats also feature little vibration. There is no clear cut better bat between these two and picking one will be based more on what feels best to the hitter.
Kris
I own a Rawlings 5150 Exogrid Ph.D. Just odered the 5150 Velo. What difference can I expect? Jordan
Even though both are one piece alloy bats, the Rawlings Exogrid will have a little stiffer feel to it than the Velo. The Velo will have a slightly lighter swing weight compared to the Exogrid.
Tyler
Is the VELO end loaded? Dalton
This bat has a very balanced feel and is designed to give players a faster swing speed. This is not an end loaded bat.
Kris
Which is the best bat between the 5150 and the Velo 5150? Murph
The BBCA 5150 and the BB51V 5150 are both very popular and durable BBCOR bats. The difference is the BB51V 5150 is designed to increase the players swing speed and have a more balanced feel. Both of these bats have great pop and is more on a personal choice on choosing one over the other.
Kris
Is there a breakin period for the velo 5150? Codykid
No, aluminum does not require any break in.
Zach
Is this a good bat for power hitters? CK10
Yes, the BB51V is a good option for power hitters. It has a lot of pop and a very balanced feel for an increased swing speed.
Sean
What is the difference between the Velo and the Easton S3? Dalton
The Rawlings 5150 Velo and the Easton S3 are both fantastic one-piece aluminum bats with great weight distribution. Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Which is better? The Rawlings 5150 Velo or the Easton S2? David
The Rawlings 5150 Velo and the Easton S2 are both extremely high performing and top of the line bats. The main difference is that the Rawlings 5150 Velo is a one-piece fully aluminum bat and the Easton S2 is a two-piece hybrid design (composite handle/aluminum barrel). Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Which is better this or the Rawlings Machine BBCOR? bighitter
The 2012 Rawlings 5150 Velo and the 2012 Rawlings Machine are both top of the line high performing bats. Here is a link to take a closer look at the differences between the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Whats the diffrence between the rawlings 5150 and the 5150 velo? Kid Beyond
The 5150 Velo has a lighter swing weight and is better suited for players looking to improve their swing speed.
Tyler
What do you mean when you say it has a lighter swing weight? I would think any bat that weighs 29 oz would have the same swing weight. mkwlls
Any bat that is 29 oz. will weigh 29 oz. on a scale, but if the bat has a light swing weight then the weight is distributed in such a way that the bat will feel lighter to swing than a bat that is slightly end loaded.
Tom
In the College World Series I saw a couple players from South Carolina using a bat called the Rawlings Velo and it was grey. Do you know when that bat could be available to buy? Matt
We currently carry the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR. Here is link to view that bat. http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-rawlings-5150-velo-bbcor--bb51v-adult/14823/
Tom
I just bought this bat for the end of my season and for following years. I hit in the cages for hours each day and not one bat yet did not break. Is this bat durable or should I get a tough sleeve to protect the bat? Smalls
At Justbats.com we suggest against using your game bats in batting cages hitting the very dense dimpled cages balls. The dimpled cage balls will damage your bat sooner than later, not even a bat sleeve will fully protect your bat.

I just purchased this bat (Velo BB51V) for my son who is starting little league junior league this year. From the Little League website it looks like a composite bat has to bbcor rated but does not say an all metal bat also needs the bbcor rating. Is there a non bbcor bat that is approved that would have some more pop? Also, I see it is on the website for $130 and I just paid $150 for it. Is there some type of price guarantee? Chris
The Rawlings 5150 VELO: SL51V is the non-BBCOR version of the Adult 5150 Velo and is legal in Little League. One is red with grey lettering (as pictured on your website) and the other model is red with black lettering. But both have been listed as 2012 VELO BBCOR. Are you familiar with the difference? JW

I would recommend going with a 34" Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult. Initially you will see a slight impact on your swing speed, but it won't be nearly as detrimental as losing a whole inch off of your reach.

This Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR is a 2012 model. There are limited sizes still available. Our size chart provided general guidelines based on height and weight. About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
