The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be a Two-Piece all Composite made design. The S2 will be a Two-Piece design except the barrel will be made from Alloy while the handle will be made from Composite materials. The S1 will require a break-in period while the S2 will not. The S1 will out perform the S2 in the long run while the S2 will out perform the S1 from day one. Both bats being Two-Piece models will reduce the amount of vibrations that flow from barrel contact to the hands. Both bats will come with 400 day manufacturer warranties.

The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be a Two-Piece design. With this bat featuring an all composite design, it will out perform an alloy bat in the long run. Right out of the wrapper an alloy bat will perform higher than composite. An alloy barrel bat requires no break-in period. If we are comparing performance rates over time the composite will out perform the alloy barrel bat. The composite barrel will require a period of break-in. 100-200 swings off of a tee or soft toss. Once these composite fibers are broken-in you will see long lasting high performance with this bat.

The **PRE-BOOK** 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be even more balanced than the previous years model. This bat will be a Two-Piece fully composite design. It will require a period of break-in of 100-200 swings from soft toss or a batting tee before I would recommend any game use. Be sure and rotate the barrel .25" after every swing to get the barrel fully broken-in. Also, here is another option for you to checkout. This bat will be another very balanced youth model. My son (9 years old, 4' 5", 75 lbs) has been demoing a 2013 S1 (30" -12). The bat is a bit big for him as he struggles with faster pitches. His current bat is Easton Reflex (29" -13.) which he hits well but it has a ton of sting. He loves the feel and performance of the S1 so I am close to getting him the 29" -12 which he should be able to swing well. My fear is that he'll out grow it before the summer and I'll need to get him a size larger. What do you think about getting him a 30" -12 and added a choke up piece to the lower handle which may give him better control with it now and extend the usable lifespan of of the bat? adman
Given his age and size, a 29" bat is most common with a weight around 16 or 17 oz. Kids grow fast though, and he should be ready for a 30" 18 oz. bat before you know it. If he has already been taking some swings with a bat of that size, then he should be just fine choking up a little until he gains some size and strength in the coming months.

That all comes down to the player and their preferences. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, the S2 would be recommend as that is what he has been using at the plate.

My son turns 9 Dec 9th. He is on the smaller size at 4'1" 60 lbs. Currently he is hitting a 27" -13 Easton LX71 Reflex. I would like to get him a 28" S1 but I am a little worried that the 2 oz. jump may be too much. The other option would be an S2. Also I assume that he could use this bat for two seasons. Using the Bat Coach feature on www.JustBats.com I was able to determine that your son should be swinging a bat length of 28". The Bat Coach also recommended the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat as an appropriate choice for him. It is currently available in a 28" 16 oz. size. This bat will be very balanced in swing weight and will not feel end loaded. The two oz. jump in weight may feel heavy at first but can be easily adjusted to. This 1" jump in bat length and weight would allow him to use it for multiple seasons.

The 2013 Easton XL3: SL13X35 Senior League, or the 2013 Easton XL1: SL13X15 Senior League would be the best models available for your son in the Easton line. At his age and height he should be swinging a -5 size. This is a good transition size for him to start adjusting to get ready for his -3 BBCOR high school bats. Both of these Easton XL bats will have a slight barrel heavy end loaded feel. Power hitters tend to prefer these XL Series bats.

100-200 hits off a tee is recommended, but soft toss is known work just as well. Start at about 40% power and gradually increase. Be sure to rotate the bat .25" to .5" between each hit to ensure an even break-in.

It is not recommended that you limit your bat's use when it's colder than 55 degrees. The temperature effects the ball, not the bat and there is a higher number of damaged bats reported when the temperature is under 55 degrees.

I have a couple of bat packs I would recommend to get you two popular bats at a great price. Also, the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be a great choice. I would stick at the 28" length though. Check out the bat pack with the 2 Marucci CAT 5. You can pick one at a 27" and one at a 28". We recommend approximately 150-200 hits off a batting tee or soft toss. It"s best to start off at about 40% power, and gradually increase. Also, be sure to rotate the bat a quarter of turn in your hands after every hit. That will provide an even break-in.

That all depends. The Easton YB13S1 is going to be a little more evenly balanced than the LZN1. If a lighter swing weight is a key criteria, the S1 would be recommended.

We recommend avoiding yellow "dimple" balls as much as possible. They are much more dense than baseballs and could shorten the life of any non-wood bat like the 2013 Easton S1.

The yellow dimple balls are very heavy and have caused a lot of damage to bats. The seamless leather ball are safe to make contact with. You shouldn't have any trouble with leather balls.

Composite materials require a break-in period, but are generally more durable, long-lasting, and will get hotter the more the bat is used. Alloy materials are game ready and will be at their peak performance day one.

With the new BPF 1.15 bat performance limitations, the difference between composite and alloy bats is largely personal preference. Once broken in, a composite bat will maintain its performance level until it dies. An alloy bat will gradually lose performance over its lifetime.

The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 youth small barrel bat is $239.99 and the 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 youth big barrel bat is $299.99. The big barrel model is more expensive because more materials and more labor is required in the manufacturing process due to the larger barrel. The big barrel model will offer a larger sweetspot and more surface area for contact compared to the small barrel model. A 30" bat is generally recommended for a player of your son's size, but it's always best to listen to the player's coaches as they are able to see and analyze the players swing. Thus, I would stick with whatever size they recommend.

The Easton Rival was replaced by the Easton S3 and the Easton XL3. Since it is a one-piece alloy bat. It would be different from the two-piece composite bats that the Easton S1 and the Easton XL1 are. If you son is a power hitter I would go with the 2013 Easton XL1 Youth. If his more of a line drive, contact hitter I would go with the 2013 Easton S1 Youth.

The Easton S1: YB11S1 is no longer in stock. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 replaced last year's YB11S1. The new YB13S1 is basically the same bat, only it features a more durable composite in the handle.

I cannot seem to get my son's 29/17 YB13S1 to break in, done every thing from soft toss to live pitching and hit of a tee, well over 200 balls. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth and the 2014 Easton S2: YB14S2 Youth will swing exactly the same however the Easton S1 is a two-piece composite design and will require a break-in period. The Easton S2 is a two-piece hybrid design with a composite handle and alloy barrel and will not require any break-in time.

The Easton S1 and XL1 are two-piece composite bats. The S2 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and an alloy barrel and the S3,XL3 are one-piece alloy bats. The Speed Series bats are all balanced and better for a contact hitter than needs to increase their bat speed. The XL Series bats are all end loaded and best for a power hitter. They are all very high performing bats.

The Easton S1 (YB13S1) would be a very high performing youth bat. Based on your height and weight, I would recommend going with an Easton XL1 Youth 32" 22 oz. It has a the same composite materials and features an extended sweet spot.

If your looking for a bat that has a balanced design (even swing weight) I would recommend the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1). It will give your grandson a quick swing through the strike zon and offer nice pop.

The Easton S1 (YB13S1) Youth can certainly by used in 55 degree weather. We would not recommend using it in much colder weather than that.

The Easton S1 (YB13S1) is a discontinued model. We no longer have the item in stock. The newest model is the 2014 Easton S1 (YB14S1). However,the smallest we have is a 30" 18 oz. We recommend the 2014 Easton S2 (YB14S2) in a 28" 15 oz.

The Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S1) and the 2014 Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14S1) will be extremely similar by design and the only major difference will be cosmetic in nature.

My son is obsessed with the fact that he needs a Mako bat. He has been batting with his buddy's that is a 30 inch 19 ounce and has hit 2 home runs with it. He has a fast, strong swing. He has a 30 inch 18 ounce Louisville. I am thinking the extra ounce may slow his swing down just enough? What do you think? Also, what is the difference between the old Stealth and the Mako. We found a used Stealth 30 inch 19 ounce for a reasonable price. kristine
The extra ounce of weight he is experiencing while using the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) very well may be just enough to help correct timing issues. While it is a slight change, it could make a difference. The MAKO has a more advanced composite material for better durability and a more extended sweet spot when compared to the old Stealth models.
