Description

New for The next generation of Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its second season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece IMX Composite/THT100 Scandium Alloy hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Personalize Your Power! The S1 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive 400 Day Manufacturer's Warranty. Pros: FEELS GOOD LOOKS GOOD. I BOUGHT THIS BAT FOR MY SON HES A SMALL 9YR.OLD. NOT ALOT OF POWER BUT A NICE SWING LINE DRIVE HITTER STILL WAITING TO SEE SOME REAL RESULTS.I HAVE NOTICED THE BALL COMES OFF THE BAT A LOT FASTER THAN WITH ANY OTHER BAT. HOPEFULLY WITH MORE PRACTICE AND AFTER THE BREAK IN PERIOD HE WILL START SEEING THE FULL EFFECT OF WHAT THIS BAT CAN DO

Cons: THE SOUND. I MISS THE SOUND OF ALUMINUM. THAT PING WHEN YOU KNOW YOU GOT A HOLD OF ONE. MY SON DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THAT THOUGH. IF YOU DON'T HIT THE BALL ON SWEET SPOT NOT MUCH MORE THAN GROUNDERS WILL BE HIT

Pros: I got this bat for my 9 and 10 yr olds I coach and half the team uses this bat. The ball comes off this bat hot for the light ping sound. Increases bat speed.

Cons: If your kid already has a good strong swing don't bother with this bat and go with the XL series or CF5 for the price.

Pros: Awesome sweet spot, really sends a lot of big flies. 5 out of our teams 6 home runs have come with this bat. And if you hit grounders, they are rocket grounders!

Cons: the only bad thing is if you don't really hit it on the sweet spot, the hits will be sort of weak. But i think you should get this bat, its well worth the price. The first time i used it i got a double. Buy it!

Great Bat Shooter parent

Pros: I bought this for my son after his 2013 S2 broke. My son is a stocky 8 year old and was around 65 lbs when we bought this bat last summer. We went with the 29 inch model and he is able to get around quickly with it. The S1 broke in nicely and has help up well during little league and travel ball play. It's got over 2500 reps on it at this point and still delivers great pop. It's proved to be very durable, little to no sting when he gets one in around his hands or off the end.

Cons: Nothing after 6 months of heavy use. It held up to roughly 20 games last fall in addition to the weekly winter hitting instructions.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat: YB13S1? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is the Easton Xl1 or S1 better for a power hitter? Cosimo
The Easton XL1 will be a better bat for power hitters.
Noah
What is the difference between this bat and the 2013 DeMarini CF5? Also, my son is a contact hitter and a power hitter but only 65 lbs. I'm afraid that the Easton XL1 would be too heavy at the end for him. What would you suggest? He wants to hit home runs. Can he do it with the S1? derek
The 2013 Easton S1 and the DeMarini CF5 are both two-piece composite bats that are very balanced. Based on your son's size, the Easton XL1 will be too heavy. The Easton S1 would be an excellent choice for him.
Kara
Whats the diff between 2012 and 2013 S1? jay
The 2013 S1 features a new composite in the handle designed to do a better job of reducing vibration and sting.
Tyler
My son is almost 10years old, 63lbs, 54" tall. Currently he uses a 29"-13 alloy bat. Small framed kid, good swing, and a contact hitter. Which is better for him the S-1 or S-2? Bob
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be a Two-Piece all Composite made design. The S2 will be a Two-Piece design except the barrel will be made from Alloy while the handle will be made from Composite materials. The S1 will require a break-in period while the S2 will not. The S1 will out perform the S2 in the long run while the S2 will out perform the S1 from day one. Both bats being Two-Piece models will reduce the amount of vibrations that flow from barrel contact to the hands. Both bats will come with 400 day manufacturer warranties.
Brandon
My son is 10 and 1/2. He is 92lbs & 61 inches tall. He has good power but slow swing speed, is this bat for him and which size? kris10wa
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 has a light swing weight, making it a good option for a player with average or below average swing speed. Based on his size, a 31" model is recommended.
Tyler
Hi, I'm 10 years old and am 56" tall. I am 72 pounds and have about an average swing speed. What size should I get? Cheese
As a 10 year old using the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat I would suggest a bat length of 29". I put your height and weight into the Bat Coach feature on justbats.com and that was the length it registered. 30" is also a possible length to move up to if you wish.
Brandon
Does the S2 have a smaller barrel then the S1? Fimble
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will have the same size as the 2013 Easton S2. The difference between the two is that the S1 is a Two-Piece fully composite designed model. While the S2 is a Hybrid Two-Piece half and half design. The barrel will be Alloy while the handle will be made from Composite materials. The S2 will require no break-in period like the S1 will.
Brandon
My son is 12 years old, 4' -10" tall and weighs 78lbs. He is a line drive hitter with quick bat speed resulting in many pulled balls down the 3rd base line. Would you recomend the 2013 XL1 or 2013 S1 and what size? Tanman
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" 20 oz. 2013 Easton XL1. The XL1 is slightly end loaded, perfect for a line drive hitter with quick bat speed.
Kara
Is composite better and more durable then alloy? Google
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be a Two-Piece design. With this bat featuring an all composite design, it will out perform an alloy bat in the long run. Right out of the wrapper an alloy bat will perform higher than composite. An alloy barrel bat requires no break-in period. If we are comparing performance rates over time the composite will out perform the alloy barrel bat. The composite barrel will require a period of break-in. 100-200 swings off of a tee or soft toss. Once these composite fibers are broken-in you will see long lasting high performance with this bat.
Brandon
I'm 116 lbs., 5' 2'', and I use the 2010 Stealth Speed 30" 19oz. I was thinking about getting a 31" 21oz. 2013 XL1 Youth. Which is better for me? I am a power hitter and used the 2012 XL1 Youth 30" 20oz. AugDog
Yes, The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat does come in a 31" 19oz. The 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 comes in a 31" 21oz. Using our Bat Coach Feature on justbats.com I entered in your height and weight and the verdict is that you need to be swinging a 31" model. Since you are a power hitter and have experience with the previous year's XL1. The 2013 XL1 sounds like the bat for you. It will be a Two-Piece all Composite design with a slight End Load that power hitters typically like. Check it out: http://www.justbats.com/product/--pre-book---2013-easton-xl1--yb13x1-youth/15958/
Brandon
My son is 10 and is 4'11 and weighs 90 lbs. He is a solid kid, but does not have a quick bat. Any recommendations? He is currently using a 29"17oz. Easton S1. Turfguy57
The **PRE-BOOK** 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be even more balanced than the previous years model. This bat will be a Two-Piece fully composite design. It will require a period of break-in of 100-200 swings from soft toss or a batting tee before I would recommend any game use. Be sure and rotate the barrel .25" after every swing to get the barrel fully broken-in. Also, here is another option for you to checkout. This bat will be another very balanced youth model. It will be a One-Piece all Alloy design, and require no break-in period. http://www.justbats.com/product/2013-louisville-slugger-tpx-omaha--yb136-youth/16493/
Brandon
What is the difference between the 2012 model and the 2013? Blueclaw32
The **PRE-BOOK** 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth model will have a different color scheme and the technology in the handle will allow less vibration than the previous year. The warranty will also be longer on the 2013 model. It will be a Full 400 Day Warranty through Easton.
Brandon
Which has a bigger sweet spot/barrel S1 or XL1 or are they the same just different weight? Blueclaw32
The XL1 is an end-loaded bat that has a slightly longer barrel than the S1. Thus, it will have a slightly larger sweetspot as well.
Tyler
My son is using a DeMarini Voodoo 29" 16 oz. He is about 50 inches and about 90 lbs. What size do you recommend for him? Sean
Based on his height and weight, we recommend the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth in a 29" 17 oz. model. For more information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
I am 54 inches and 70 pounds what size should I use? robbie
Based on your size, a 29" model of the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat is recommended.
Tyler
My son is 9.5 years old, weighs 98 lbs and is 56 in tall ( 4'7"). which bat should we get him XL 1 or S 1 series ? he is strong but not very fast, it seems, perhaps the S 1 series would be better for him ? thank you ! meeshies
If he has average swing speed, the the S1 would be recommended as it will be more balanced and will help him generate better swing speed.
Tyler
I am 4' 6" 57.9 pounds. What would you rather get if you were me, a speed series or a XL series? FLbaseball
If you are a power hitter we recommend the XL series. If you need to increase your bat speed we recommend the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1.
Kara
What is the difference in terms of performance between the 2012 and 2013 Easton S1? kalawaya
The 2012 and the 2013 Easton S1 are very similar bats and there should not be a considerable performance difference between the two.
Jeff
For someone 4"9, bats leadoff and hits for contact, what size bat would you recommend? henry
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth baseball bat would be an excellent choice for a lead off hitter as it is designed for a contact hitter. The recommended size would be 29" or 30".
Jeff
Does this model have a longer sweet spot than the earlier model? big hitter
The sweet spot on the 2013 Easton S1 Youth model will be similar to the 2012 model.
Damon
My 12 yr. old son is 5'6" and 115 lbs., he has a quick swing with some power. What bat and size and weight would you recommend? mark h.
Based on his height and weight, we would recommend a 31" 19 oz. model in the Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth. For more information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
I am a leadoff hitter 4'11'' and 12 years old. what size of a bat would you recommend for me and which bat? hobbsey13
I recommend our Bat Coach. It's a great tool: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
My son (9 years old, 4' 5", 75 lbs) has been demoing a 2013 S1 (30" -12). The bat is a bit big for him as he struggles with faster pitches. His current bat is Easton Reflex (29" -13.) which he hits well but it has a ton of sting. He loves the feel and performance of the S1 so I am close to getting him the 29" -12 which he should be able to swing well. My fear is that he'll out grow it before the summer and I'll need to get him a size larger. What do you think about getting him a 30" -12 and added a choke up piece to the lower handle which may give him better control with it now and extend the usable lifespan of of the bat? adman
Given his age and size, a 29" bat is most common with a weight around 16 or 17 oz. Kids grow fast though, and he should be ready for a 30" 18 oz. bat before you know it. If he has already been taking some swings with a bat of that size, then he should be just fine choking up a little until he gains some size and strength in the coming months.
Tyler
What's the difference in playability between the S1 and S2? My son is a small 9 year old, but fairly strong with very good technique and a fast swing speed. He has been hitting a 28"/17oz S2 for 10 months and it's time to move up a bit size-wise. walker
That all comes down to the player and their preferences. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, the S2 would be recommend as that is what he has been using at the plate.
Tyler
What is a good size for a 9 year old? jake
Height and weight can plan a big roll in deciding what size of bat is the right fit. Here is a link to our Bat Resource Guide that can be a good tool to help you decide the right length and weight to use; http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/selecting-a-baseballbat/
John H
Do you think I should get this bat? brady
Yes. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 is a great bat.
Tyler
Is this bat composite? Alex
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 is full composite (see Bat Features).
Tyler
My son turns 9 Dec 9th. He is on the smaller size at 4'1" 60 lbs. Currently he is hitting a 27" -13 Easton LX71 Reflex. I would like to get him a 28" S1 but I am a little worried that the 2 oz. jump may be too much. The other option would be an S2. Also I assume that he could use this bat for two seasons. What are your thoughts? Dan
Using the Bat Coach feature on www.JustBats.com I was able to determine that your son should be swinging a bat length of 28". The Bat Coach also recommended the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat as an appropriate choice for him. It is currently available in a 28" 16 oz. size. This bat will be very balanced in swing weight and will not feel end loaded. The two oz. jump in weight may feel heavy at first but can be easily adjusted to. This 1" jump in bat length and weight would allow him to use it for multiple seasons.
Brandon
Is the S1 big barrel going to be produced in the 32, -8 for 2013? Dr.RLB
The 2013 Easton S1 Youth Big Barrel bat is manufactured in a -10 length to weight ratio.

My son will be playing little league 12 year old division - 5-2" and 130 lb. Contact hitter with a bit slow bat speed. What is the difference between the S1 and S2 and are they both little league approved? Vic
The S1 is two-piece, full composite. The S2 is two-piece with an alloy barrel and composite handle. Both models are Little League approved.
Tyler
My son is 4'6 and 67lbs...and has a loong swing!..he has the voodoo 29/16... Do you think it's worth getting this bat...being that its more balanced and a little lighter to quicken up his swing? Baseball Jay
If he currently has swing speed that is below average, a more balanced bat like the S1 would be a great option that should help him to improve in that area.
Tyler
My son is 13 and is 5' 11". He is a power hitter who hit 37 home runs last year. Would a 32" S1 be good for him, or what do you recommend from Easton? GOZ
The 2013 Easton XL3: SL13X35 Senior League, or the 2013 Easton XL1: SL13X15 Senior League would be the best models available for your son in the Easton line. At his age and height he should be swinging a -5 size. This is a good transition size for him to start adjusting to get ready for his -3 BBCOR high school bats. Both of these Easton XL bats will have a slight barrel heavy end loaded feel. Power hitters tend to prefer these XL Series bats.
Brandon
Which bat has a lighter feel to it, 2013 Easton S1 YB13S1 31/19 -12 or the Demarini CF5 DXCF5 31/20 -11? B5
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 31" model weighs 19 oz. The 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFL 31" model weighs 20 oz. The S1 will be one ounce lighter than the CF5 of the same size.
Tyler
My son is 12 and is a contact hitter that has shown some power, but not consistently. He currently has a Combat B4 and his power went down, but his average went up. I can't decide whether to go with the Easton S1 or Easton XL2? Any suggestions? Zip
The Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth would be a good option for your son as it it a very balanced design. The Easton XL2: YB13X2 will have an end loaded swing weight with an extra long barrel, this is more suited for a power hitter. Also, the Easton S1 is a fully composite design and the Easton XL2 is a two-piece hybrid design. Here is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Aubrey
What's the best way to break in the Easton S1,off the tee or soft toss? And do you swing at 100%? B5
100-200 hits off a tee is recommended, but soft toss is known work just as well. Start at about 40% power and gradually increase. Be sure to rotate the bat .25" to .5" between each hit to ensure an even break-in.
Tyler
Our granddaughter is 9 and has been playing little league for 3 years. She is VERY STRONG, tall and athletic. Outfield hitter and needs her own first bat. Recommendations? Mrs. B
Two of the top bats on the market are the Easton S1 and DeMarini CF5. Both of which have great pop. I recommend our Bat Coach to help determine the best size: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
I just bought the Easton S1 and want to break it in but it is going to be in the mid 40's for a while up here in Seattle, can I still break in the bat? B5
It is not recommended that you limit your bat's use when it's colder than 55 degrees. The temperature effects the ball, not the bat and there is a higher number of damaged bats reported when the temperature is under 55 degrees.
Jeff
I'm 12 years old I'm 5'2 and I weigh 140 what bat do you think would be best for me? Big casino
Based on your size, a 31" model of the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat is recommended.
Tyler
Are there any easton omens out there in the US? Mark
Unfortunately, we no longer have any Easton Omen bats in stock. I would recommend contacting Easton at 1-888-259-1297.
Tyler
I'm 12 years old I'm about 5'0" and 94 lbs I was just wondering for the new season what would be the best bat size and weight for me? Chris
A 30" bat is recommended with a weight between 19 and 21 oz.
Tyler
I'm 9 1/2 years old and I'm 58 inches tall and 80 lbs. I'm trying to decide between the 29 and 30 inch models. Do you have any advice? Matt
Based on your height and weight we recommend a 30" 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth.
Kara
I'm looking for a bat for an 8 year old, 49"-50" and 50 lbs. In his second year of machine pitch. Also, a 6 yr old, 48"-50 lbs. In his first year of machine pitch. g
I have a couple of bat packs I would recommend to get you two popular bats at a great price. Also, the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be a great choice. I would stick at the 28" length though. Check out the bat pack with the 2 Marucci CAT 5. You can pick one at a 27" and one at a 28". Or the Bat Pack COMBAT B2 Alloy and Easton Reflex: B2ALYB1 -12 and LX73 Youth. The COMBAT at 27" and the Easton at 28". These would be perfect for you.
Brandon
Just beginning to shop for a new bat. Trust the Easton brand as my 9 year currently has a "used" Easton Stealth 28"/15 oz. 2 1/4" barrel CNT. Slick
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth replaced the Easton Omen which replaced the Easton Stealth. They will be similar in quality and performance. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth does have upgraded composite materials in the handle for better durability. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is also a very balanced bat, great for a younger player.
Kara
My weight is 92 lbs and I am 5'2" and 11 years old. What size should I use for little league? GIAN
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 31" model in the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat. For further information on sizing, please visit our bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
My son is 57" tall and 80 pounds. What size bat and drop should we consider? Vance
I would suggest the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat in a 29" drop 10 or 11.
Frank
I understand that the break-in period is fairly long on this bat. What's the time frame? John
We recommend approximately 150-200 hits off a batting tee or soft toss. It"s best to start off at about 40% power, and gradually increase. Also, be sure to rotate the bat a quarter of turn in your hands after every hit. That will provide an even break-in.
John H
What is the difference between the S1 and the S3? I like the price of the S3, of course, for my 10 year old but am wondering what the difference is between the two bats. Jimbo
The difference between the 2013 Easton S1 and the 2013 Easton S3 is that the S1 is a two-piece full composite bat and the S3 is a one piece all alloy bat.
Cooper
My son is 52" tall and weighs 62 pounds. What size bat and drop should we consider? James
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 28" 16 oz. model in the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat. For further information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
At what temperture is there a greater danger of cracking the s1 due to cold weather? john
Any bat has a greater change of cracking or denting when temperatures fall below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Tyler
Does this bat compare to the older Easton Omen? Bomber
The Easton Omen was a very similar model to the 2013 Easton S1. Both bats feature two-piece composite designs and have been very popular Youth bats.
Mac
Will the 28/16 S1 be noticeably heavier than the 28/15 S2? Moving up from 27/1.5 Rampage. East County
A 16 oz. S1 will feel 1 oz. heavier than a 15 oz. S2. 1 oz. is equal to about 28 paperclips or about 5 U.S. quarters.
Tyler
Trying to choose between the YB13S1 or the old school Synergy LZN1! I know both bats are composites but which do you recommend for my 8 year old? d.king
That all depends. The Easton YB13S1 is going to be a little more evenly balanced than the LZN1. If a lighter swing weight is a key criteria, the S1 would be recommended.
Tyler
My 7 yr. old son is 4'2" and 60 pounds with very fast hands. He is a good line drive contact hitter with some power. He has been swinging a 27" 15 oz. Worth alloy that just died. Should we go with the S1 or the XL1? What size would you recommend? Really afraid to slow his hands even though his coaches think he has bat speed to burn. Abstract
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be a great selection. I am more comfortable recommending this S1 than the XL1. The S1 will definitely feel more balanced and easy to swing for him. The XL1 will feel barrel heavy. Power hitters do love the XL1. Both the S1 and XL1 will be upgrades compared to his alloy bat.
Brandon
My son is 9.5 years old and weighs 70 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? Mike W.
I recommend the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth in a 30" for someone your son's size and age.
Katie
My son is 5' 2" and 170 pounds, and he's only 10. He will turn 11 in May. He is playing Cal Ripken Baseball in the Minor Division this year and I am interested in getting him this bat. Last year he swung a composite bat that was 31" and 19 oz. I noticed he was a little behind on his swing at times. He's grown about 2 ft. and 25 pounds since last season. I am wondering if should I get him the same size or what do you recommend? heatherbegley
According to our Bat Coach tool, I would recommend a 32" 2013 Easton S1 Youth bat. Your son could also choose to continue using a 31" bat, depending on preference. http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Mac
My son is 11 and weighs 100 lbs. He is 4 ft. 10 inches. What bat size would you recommend, a 30" or 31"? bobcat14
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat. For further questions on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
We have an S1 and an S2. We have a pitching machine and usually use both regular and yellow rubber practice balls. What is the risk of using the practice balls with these bats? DLight
We recommend avoiding yellow "dimple" balls as much as possible. They are much more dense than baseballs and could shorten the life of any non-wood bat like the 2013 Easton S1.
Mac
is this bat BBCORE approved Mantis
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a youth bat, so it will not and does not have to meet BBCOR standards.
Marcus
Hi, should i get a 30/18 or 31/19? I'm 4ft 2in. baseball man
Our Bat Coach is a great tool to help determine bat size: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tyler
I am trying to decide between XL1 and S1. I am 5'8", 170 lbs. I hit with DeMarini DX2 last year 31/20. I hit home runs during practice but not in the game. I need a bigger bat as I grew. Which would be better for me and what size? V
I would recommend the 2013 Easton S1. The largest size available is the 32", which is what I would suggest you use.
Justin R.
I'm 12 and 5'0" tall and 82 pounds. I'm strong but short. What bat do you recommend? Easton S1 or XL1? aka stud
The Easton S1 is recommended if you have average to below average strength and swing speed. The Easton XL1 is recommended if you have above average strength and swing speed.
Tyler
What is the temperature the 2013 Easton S1 be used in? baseball man
We recommend using the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth above fifty degrees.
Kara
I know you are not supposed to use the yellow dimple balls with these bats. What about the new seamless leather pitching machine balls? vance
The yellow dimple balls are very heavy and have caused a lot of damage to bats. The seamless leather ball are safe to make contact with. You shouldn't have any trouble with leather balls.
Chad M.
Why would one choose Alloy barrel over a composite barrel or vice versa, which is the better choice assuming very similar bats in S1 & S2? Ed
Composite materials require a break-in period, but are generally more durable, long-lasting, and will get hotter the more the bat is used. Alloy materials are game ready and will be at their peak performance day one.
Marcus
Once broken in, is the peak performance of a composite barrel generally better than an alloy bat? In essence is the S1 a better bat than the S2? Is hit #201 off the composite barrel better than hit #1 or #50 of the alloy barrel? Ed
With the new BPF 1.15 bat performance limitations, the difference between composite and alloy bats is largely personal preference. Once broken in, a composite bat will maintain its performance level until it dies. An alloy bat will gradually lose performance over its lifetime.
Kevin
My son is 6 1/2 and I'm considering getting him this bat (28/16) for coach pitch ball. Will he be able to drive the ball, or would a smaller bat be better? I'm concerned the S1 might be too much for him at coach pitch ball. Baller
Based on his age, I recommend a 27" model. For coach pitch, I recommend either a coach pitch or Junior Big Barrel bat. Here is a link to the Easton S1 Junior Big Barrel bat http://www.justbats.com/product/2013-easton-s1--jbb13s1-junior-big-barrel/15942/
Aubrey
How does this compare to the Easton LGS1XL 32" 19 oz. Surge XXL? baseball parent
The most notable difference between the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth and the Easton Surge XXL is the S1 is a two-piece composite bat while the Surge is a two-piece hybrid.
Kevin
My son is 8 he is 48 lbs. and about 50 inches tall. He can use composite bats this year, what would be the best bat for his size? Henry C
For your son's size I would recommend a 28" 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat.
Kevin
My twin sons are 12 years old and are 5' 9", approximately 130 lbs. Would you recommend the XL or S series? Don
If your sons are contact hitters I would recommend the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bats. However, if your sons are power hitters I would recommend the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth bats.
Kevin
My son is 9 yrs old and 54" tall. He's using a 28" drop 12 Omen XL. We feel like he's outgrown it a bit. We're looking at the S1 or XL1. What size do you think? He has good swing speed also. Nico
He should be fine swinging a 30" bat length in the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth.
Brandon
My son is ten years old and I am trying to find him a good 30" 18 oz. bat. He is a power hitter so would you recommend the Easton S1 youth, or the 2013 DeMarini Voodoo youth. baseball maniac
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat is a great youth bat that will be very balanced. The 2013 DeMarini Voodoo bat will probably suit a power a little better. The Voodoo has an end loaded barrel heaviness that power hitter's tend to love.
Brandon
I have the 2012 model of the Eaton S1. Are there any big differences between this one and the 2012 model? sam
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth uses upgraded SIC black carbon in the handle for better durability.
Kara
My son is 9.5 years old, 56 inches tall and weighs 70 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? Mike
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 29" model in the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth . For further information on sizing, please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Aubrey
My son is 9 and is turning 10 in June. He is 57 inches and 115 lbs. What do you suggest? I am looking at the Easton S1. jim
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" 18 oz. 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth.
Kara
What would the difference in performance be between the 2012 and 2013 models? javi
The 2013 Easton S1 features a new composite in the handle for better vibration reduction and a little more durability.
Tyler
Is this bat the newer version/replacement for the Easton LSS6XL Stealth Speed XL-12? Scott
The 2013 Easton S1 YB13S1 Youth has replaced the Easton Omen.
Damon
How does this bat differ from the 2012 S1 model? BT
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is comprised of higher grade materials than the 2012 Easton S1.
Marcus
My son is 11, but is small for an 11 year old. He weighs 59 lbs and is a little over 4'. He uses bats that are 29" 18 oz. and 29" 19 oz. What size Easton bat would you recommend for him? peace
Given his size, I would recommend either the 28" 16 oz. or the 29" 17 oz. model of the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat for your son.
Marcus
My son is 11, 5'0", and 77 lbs. He's currently swinging a 28" 18 oz. Omen and by tweaking his swing mechanics, he's sped up his swing. What Power Brigade bat would you recommend? tarheelfan
Given his size, I would recommend going with the 30" 20 oz. model of the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1 Youth for your son.
Marcus
My son weighs about 78 pounds, 4' 8", and is 11. He is short, but strong should he hit the S1 or the XL1. tan
If he strong for his age the Easton XL1 will be the bat for him. The end load may seem a bit heavy at first, but he will get used to it.
Noah
My son is 6 years old and about 45 lbs. I'm wondering what bat to choose for him. He's a great hitter and needs the best bat. woobie
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a very popular bat. For someone your son's age and size, we'd recommend a 28".
Katie
Does this bat take time to break in? clb
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth will require a break-in period of 150-200 swings, working up from 40% to full power. Make sure to use real baseballs and rotate the bat a quarter inch every swing.
Katie
Below what temperature should you not use the Easton S1? Don
I would not recommend using the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth or any other bat in temperatures below 55 degrees.
Marcus
My son is 11 and small for his age. Has a good eye and can connect with the ball, but the ball seems to die of his bat and he rarely gets it to the outfield. Also, this year pitches are coming in faster from the bigger kids. Is there a bat you'd recommend to get more power? orange
Speed equals power with the Easton S1 Youth. I would have him stick it out with the Easton's, they are great bats and will help him along the way.
Chad M.
What is the difference between the CXN technology of the Easton S1 and Easton S2? sfbball
The IMX composite will be the same in the handles on both bats. But the 2013 Easton S1 will have the composite in the barrel as the 2013 Easton S2 will have alloy in the barrel.
Chad M.
How does the Easton S1 YB13S1 Youth compare to the 2012 Rawlings Machine YBMACH? Which one is faster swinging and which has more pop? One obvious difference is that the Easton S1 has a two-piece and the Rawlings Machine has an one-piece fully composite design, but what does that mean for the performance? Rob
Since the Easton S1 is a two-piece it will have more of a flex to the swing. Which will make it feel lighter and easier swinging, and add pop to it's preformance. The two-piece feature will also cut down on the stinging that a one-piece can have.
Chad M.
My son just turned 8 and is 53" and about 90 lbs. He currently uses an Easton Reflex (2.25 barrel 29/16). He plays machine pitch this spring and starts kid pitch this fall. I was wanting to buy him a better bat. He is the most consistent hitter on the team. I was looking at the S1 (both big and small barrel). Is the small barrel better (it costs more) so I don't understand the difference. If not the S1 which would you recommend? The S1 doesn't have a drop -13 so I was thinking of moving him to the 28/16 but some bat charts show that he should maybe be at a 30" however, I here coaches say that the bat seems to long (but it could be because their kids are so short). captionmemo
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 youth small barrel bat is $239.99 and the 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 youth big barrel bat is $299.99. The big barrel model is more expensive because more materials and more labor is required in the manufacturing process due to the larger barrel. The big barrel model will offer a larger sweetspot and more surface area for contact compared to the small barrel model. A 30" bat is generally recommended for a player of your son's size, but it's always best to listen to the player's coaches as they are able to see and analyze the players swing. Thus, I would stick with whatever size they recommend.
Tyler
My son is 10 and 5'1" about 105 lbs. He was using and Easton Stealth CNT 28" -12 bat. He had had that bat for a couple years and he was much smaller when I got it for him. I was thinking about getting the YB13S1 31"19 oz. Will that be too much of a jump in size and as far as the break in time goes, he's not a real consistent hitter at the moment but we are working on it. What happens if the bat isn't broken in properly? Service Tech
With the height and weight given, we suggest a 31" 19 oz. bat. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a very balanced, easy swinging bat. It should feel very light and easy to swing for him. We suggest a break in period of 150 to 200 hits of a soft toss or a tee. Rotate the bat a quarter of a inch, to ensure an even break in and always use real, leather baseballs.
Chad M.
Which do you recommend, the Easton S1 or the Easton XL1? My son is 5 foot tall, 105 lbs and 9 years old. He is a very strong kid. He has been using a 31" 19 oz. Rival. stever
The Easton Rival was replaced by the Easton S3 and the Easton XL3. Since it is a one-piece alloy bat. It would be different from the two-piece composite bats that the Easton S1 and the Easton XL1 are. If you son is a power hitter I would go with the 2013 Easton XL1 Youth. If his more of a line drive, contact hitter I would go with the 2013 Easton S1 Youth.
Chad M.
My son tried a bat last which must be the same or close to the YB13S1 (very similar to this bat). It was an Easton except it was a YB11S1. He really liked it. Is it still available or is this the replacement and what might be the difference if the YB11S1 isn't available? Sam
The Easton S1: YB11S1 is no longer in stock. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 replaced last year's YB11S1. The new YB13S1 is basically the same bat, only it features a more durable composite in the handle.
Tyler
I cannot seem to get my son's 29/17 YB13S1 to break in, done every thing from soft toss to live pitching and hit of a tee, well over 200 balls. Even an opposing coach commented on how dead the bat sounds. Purchased in mid march, Any suggestions? He has resorted to using a teammates hybrid Voodoo and a composite TPX that both yield much better results. Ed
I recommend contacting our Customer Service Team at 1-866-321-2287 regarding your 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat.
Tyler
How does this compare to the new Voodoo? Which one would you recommend for a stronger 9 year old? Dave
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a two-piece composite bat that is very balanced, while the Voodoo is a two-piece with a composite handle and alloy barrel that is more end loaded. For a strong, power hitter, the end loaded Voodoo would be a good fit.
Katie
My son uses a 2012 Vexxum 29" 18 oz. achieving quick bat speed. He is a line drive contact hitter playing 12U. We are considering the Easton S1, but do not want to overlook the XL1. How does the 2012 Vexxum compare to the S1 and XL1 (balanced v. end loaded, etc)? Neil
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a balanced bat. The 2013 Easton XL1 is an end loaded bat. The 2012 DeMarini Vexxum: DXVNL is also slightly end loaded. If he has good bat speed we recommend the 2013 Easton XL1: YB13X1.
Kara
Would the Easton S1 or the Miken REV- EX be more suitable for a player that has a good swing and makes contact but doesn't have much power? amy
Both the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat and the 2013 Miken REV-EX: YREV12 Youth bat will work well for a contact hitter. Both bats are balanced weight and have good bat speed, which will help with making solid contact.
Robert
My son is 10, and about 5' tall. He weighs around 86 lbs. He has a 2012 XL1 30" 20 oz. He finds it too heavy. He uses his friend's 2013 XL3 30" 19 oz. during games and likes it. He is more of contact hitter (line drives/hard ground balls). Would the S1 be a good option for him or would another bat? Marley
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be a better selection for him than the XL-Series. The S1 will be very light in swing weight and have a very balanced feel compared to the XL-Series. The XL-Series will have a barrel heaviness to the swing weight.
Brandon
I'm trying to see what would be the best bat for my son. He's a little guy but can hit it to the outfield almost everytime. He's swinging a 28" 16 oz. Louisville Slugger composite but doesnt like it. He's almost nine and is 50 inches and 58 pounds. What size bat is good for him? I'm looking for one he can use next year too. Also is the Easton XL or Speed Series better for him? Thanks mom
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a very high performing bat. It is very balanced and is best for a smaller player. The 2013 Easton XL1 is an end loaded bat and is better suited for a power hitter. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 28" 16 oz. bat.
Kara
My son is 54" tall & weighs 72 lbs. He is 8 years old. He makes solid contact but we are looking for something to give him more power. Would you recommend the Easton XL-Series or the S-Series. He is swinging a 29" 16 oz. Easton Rival now. greg
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be a great bat and be very balanced in swing weight. Yet, I would recommend the XL-Series if you are trying to add some power to his contact. It will have a barrel heavy, end loaded feel to the swing weight. Both bats would be great for the youth hitter.
Brandon
Are you going to make a new bat in the Power Brigade Series in 2013? dubbondubbs
Easton is scheduled to release their 2014 bats August 30, 2013.
Kara
Just got my son an S1. Do you have a recommendation for a bat to use in the cages? Some around town have the "yellow" balls and i know we should not use this bat with them. Would any bat the same length and weight work? Looking for something less costly that may swing similar or have same balanced feel. abatz
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth should not be used in a cage with yellow dimple balls. The 2013 Rawlings Plasma: YBPLA4 Youth is at a lower cost than the S1, but is the same size and has a similar balance to the S1.
Katie
I want to order a new bat for my 10 year old grandson, but have a few questions. He has very quick hands but has been hitting a lot of grounders lately. Last year he was hitting far more doubles and triples. He is 72 lbs. and 56" tall. His current bat is a Combat B4 29" 19 oz. (-10 drop). He went to a store and was swinging an Easton XL1, but feels it might be a bit heavy. I know the XL1 is end loaded and for power hitters. I'm considering ordering him the Easton S1, 30" 18 oz. (-11 drop). The S1 is a lighter and more balanced bat than the XL1. I'm thinking about going with the 30" S1 it might make the weight seem a little more like his -10 Combat, yet give him a little more balanced bat. Feedback please. John
Yes, the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat sounds like the better choice for him. It will be more balanced and help him achieve better bat speeds than the XL1. The 30" 18 oz. -12 drop would work well. At his size the 30" bat length is recommended.
Brandon
I am 10 years old, 80 lbs, and 4'10". I have been using an Easton S1 29" 17 oz. I have an extremely fast swing speed, and it feels too light in my hands. I used my friends 30" 20 oz. XL1 in a game and ripped a double 160 ft. no more than 15 feet high. Which bat should I use? jr. bballer
If you are able to comfortable swing the Easton XL1, then you should use that bat. The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat is a more balanced weight model between the two. The XL1 offers a little extra power because of the end-loaded weight.
Robert
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a full composite bat like this over a half and half bat like the Easton S2? Brian
The composite material acts as a trampoline. The more the bat is used the further the ball will travel. However the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth will require a break-in period. The Easton S2 will be game ready.
Kara
My 12 year old son is a contact hitter who is looking to develop power. What bat should he look at in the Easton series? Notscho
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is designed for a player who needs to generate bat speed. The 2013 Easton XL3: YB13X3 Youth would be a better option to help him generate more power.
Kara
What's better this bat or the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack: YB13A Youth? Hop
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth and 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack: YB13A Youth are both two-piece composite bats that are very comparable in terms of performance and durability.
Katie
Why is it bad to hit yellow, dimple balls with this bat? b
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat will be a two-piece fully composite bat. The dimpled balls can be more dense and damage your bat. I would stick to hitting against real baseballs with the S1.
Brandon
I'm a contact hitter and was recommended the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 youth bat, but I'm also interested in the Marucci Black series bats. Which way should I choose for the most contact possible? Pit Pat Putter
the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth and Marucci Black are both great bats with outstanding balance. The choice will come down to personal preference of bat.
Noah
How much shorter is the barrel on the S2 than the barrel on the S1? Ben
The barrel size on the 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth and the entire Easton Speed Series should all be the same length.
Brandon
Can you tell me the difference between this bat and the Easton Quantum 29/17? Killer B
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth is a two-piece fully composite, while the Easton Quantum is a two-piece with an alloy barrel and composite handle. Additionally, the S1 is going to have all of the most up-to-date certifications, including the newest USSSA stamp, while the Quantum has the older stamps.

My son is 7 years old, 4' 4", and 73 lbs. Do u think the 29" 17 oz. is to big for him? jr
A 28" 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth would be the correct size, but the 29" would alloy him to grow into it a little more.
Noah
My son is an 8 years old. He is 4'4" and 64 lbs. I am looking at an S2 30" 17 oz. Is that bat appropriate for him? Cole
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat would be more appropriate for his size in a 28" bat length.
Brandon

Mac
I'm 5 ft. 1 in. and 95 pounds. I'm a strong hitter and am looking for longer sweet spot. Which would be best for me? The XL1 or the S1? And what size should I use? All - Star
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth bat features a standard length barrel and very balanced swing weight. The XL1 would offer an extended barrel and sweet spot, but it features a slightly end loaded swing weight that a power hitter would utilize most-effectively. Based on results from our Bat Coach tool, we would recommend a 31" model.
Mac

The Easton Mako will be available on 9/1/2013. It will feel balanced like the 2013 Easton S1. It will have the larger barrel size of the XL-Series. As for youth sizes, I am unsure as of now.
Brandon
My son played In 10 to 12 yo majors. He's been using an Easton Reflex 29" 16 oz. He's is a contact hitter, lots of line drives up the middle. Would a YB13S1 30" 18 oz be okay for next year? He's 4'10" and 87 Lbs and will be 11 next season. Rocket

My son is 115 lbs 56" tall, he will be 11 in the spring. He used the Easton Quantum 28" 16 oz last year and does not have a fast swing. I have been trying to decide what bat and what size to go with. I have been debating between the S1 or the S2. And I was thinking 30" bat. What do you recommend? Lori
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model. I'm researching a composite baseball bat for my 11 yr old son, who plays for a competitive traveling team and wonder what the difference is between the Easton series S1, S2, S3, XL, XL1, XL3, etc? Is there a particular one better then next? He's 5' 3" and 109 lbs, so I'm looking at a 32"(-12 or -11). T
The Easton S1 and XL1 are two-piece composite bats. The S2 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and an alloy barrel and the S3,XL3 are one-piece alloy bats. The Speed Series bats are all balanced and better for a contact hitter than needs to increase their bat speed. The XL Series bats are all end loaded and best for a power hitter. They are all very high performing bats.
Kara

Is the YB13S1 the same bat as the YB14S1, just different color? jim

Patrick
My son is obsessed with the fact that he needs a Mako bat. He has been batting with his buddy's that is a 30 inch 19 ounce and has hit 2 home runs with it. He has a fast, strong swing. He has a 30 inch 18 ounce Louisville. I am thinking the extra ounce may slow his swing down just enough? What do you think? Also, what is the difference between the old Stealth and the Mako. We found a used Stealth 30 inch 19 ounce for a reasonable price. kristine
The extra ounce of weight he is experiencing while using the 2015 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB15MK) very well may be just enough to help correct timing issues. While it is a slight change, it could make a difference. The MAKO has a more advanced composite material for better durability and a more extended sweet spot when compared to the old Stealth models.
Patrick
What is the difference between a 2014 and 2013 S1? jim
The Easton S1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S1) and the 2014 model are the same bat. The only difference is the cosmetic appearance.
