Description

For the past several years, the CF4 has dominated discussions about the hottest bats on the market. This year, DeMarini raises the stakes by introducing a completely revamped successor, aptly named the CF5. The CF5 is built on the principle of geometric perfection. DeMarini has unveiled a new composite material, called TR3 Strut Composite, that imitates the structure of crystals which are one of the strongest and most stable compounds on Earth. The triangle formation inside the barrel provides a fixed ratio of sides and angles so it's strong, stable and predictable - without any unnecessary weight! The molecular structure of the TR3 Strut handle is designed to efficiently transition power from the hands to the barrel to give players balance and consistency with every swing. This two-piece design is engineered durable with a very high strength to weight ratio, and light enough to be worthy of Doublewall duty. A bat like this can't be plugged with any average end cap, so DeMarini engineered the new Geo Endcap to meet its needs. The Geo Endcap is full of load-balancing triangles and is designed to maintain the stiffness of the barrel while dampening vibration to give hitters an amazing feel, shot after shot! The CF5 also features Half and Half Technology that redistributes weight to give the bat optimal balance. This gives players the ability to swing faster with less effort; ultimately resulting in more power! DeMarini: Insane Dedication to Performance! The CF5 is BBCOR Certified and legal for High School and Collegiate play. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Medarini

Pros: The CF5 is unlike any other composite bat out there. It does not sound like the older composite bats. The older ones sound like a clunk when you hit with it, this sounds like an aluminum. Balance is just as great as the Omen from Easton. Same price as one too. Great power transfer.

Cons: Price is a bit steep

homerun hitter 33

Pros: This is the best bat ever. I am 13 years old and i just got the 31" 28 oz. and i can swing it fine. The team has a 2011 demarini voodoo, 2012 louisville slugger EXO, 2012 louisville slugger OMOHA, and a 2012 easton SURGE and this is the best bat by far. IT has way better pop than any of the BESR bats that I have ever used.Almost the whole barrel is a sweet spot.IF you hit it on the CF5 it is GONE!

Cons: NONE NONE NONE this is the best bat ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: this bat is great. It looks amazing. great pop off the barrel, which takes up half the bat.It has a cool finish which gives it a different feel.

Cons: I got the bat friday, and the tape seperated on saturday afternoon after 4 at bats. Also, it scratches extremely easily. Finally, 400 is a lot for a bbcor. c'mon demarini

Pros: what else can i say...DeMarini has stepped up there game with this bat. It has AMAZING pop for a bbcor or besr. I love the sick graphics on this thing too. This is by far the best bat i have ever owned and i have owned many high quality bats the past couple years.

Cons: why did they put a cons section for the CF5?

Cons: The only thing I would say is chipping but it really doesn't matter.

Pros: Wow there are definitely some Demarini employees writing these reviews! This bat couldn't hit within 40 feet of any of my team's other bbcor bats. The swing weight was great and it looks awesome but that's about it.

Cons: You will be outhit by your teammates who use Surges (or probably ANY other BBCOR bat) :(

Pros: The best BBCOR bat out today. The bat is balanced, and has great pop. The cf5 with its new tr3 composite gives it better pop then most bbcor bats because its not alloy.

Cons: 399 is way to much. BESR bats should cost this much not BBCOR! But you'd be a fool not to buy it.

Cons: Price. Very similar to the Rawlings 5150, and costs double.

Pros: great pop. sounds and feels like wood but goes much farther. i got it yesterday and it seems very durable. it has a stiff handle which is something i like.

Cons: mine is not broken in yet but i can tell there is a lot more power to come but it does not come fresh right out of the wrapper. it is a composite bat.

Pros: Looks and Demarini's return policy

Cons: Usually a Demarini fan (CF3 favorite bat all time), but this bat is garbage! Hard to explain, but it feels like the sweet spot has the least amount of pop, the ball goes further when I get jammed! Returned this right away and luckily my return was accepted.

Pros: i like it alot and its very evenly weighted has a very large sweet spot and a really strange sound but if your not guna buy a bat because it sounds strange when you hit the ball then you dont really care about how your performance is as much as you should. this bat shows how good of a hitter you really are and your power so a little dinky swing wont be a bullet.

Cons: its $400 but i cant complain and also does chip easy.

Pros: the balance on the bat is amazing, and when you hit it it doesn't sound like the old composite bats but not like aluminum either it is in the middle, the pop is very good for a BBCOR i have tested others and there performance isn't close to CF5's i would recommend this to everyone, it is well worth the price

Cons: Nothing

Pros: son was using BBCOR 2011 Voodoo before we made this purchase. No comparison... The CF5 is far superior with a better balance and larger sweet spot.

Cons: none... it's a BBCOR, the players who work on their swing are going to be rewarded. The big kids with bad swings are going to be left behind with the new standards.

Pros: 1- Excellent balance and feel 2- Feels lighter than my same weight and length CF4 BESR 3- Ball explodes off barrel in practice (have yet to use in a game, will see in Fall Ball) 4-Best BBCOR on market (you get what you pay for)

Cons: 1- BBCOR 2- Price 3- Break in period for all composite bats 4- Need another bat til this bat breaks in, more money, (will use Rip-It Prototype, "good bat" as well)

Pros: Amazing!!! Very good pop compared to the other bbcor's. The weight is very well distributed and to my surprise I was able to have a faster swing than normal. Takes a few trips to the cages to break in but it's worth every penny...

Cons: Has some vibration but not nearly enough to sting your hands, a little pricy

Pros: The ball explodes off the bat. I can feel the flex of the barrel. CF5 is very well balanced, and it doesnt sting at all when i hit off-center hits. I got the 33/30 bat, and it feels so light when i swing with it. Overall, best bat that you can buy, if your willing to pay $400. I play Babe Ruth baseball, and i am 13 years old.

Cons: It's $400! But, then again, they are using the most advanced composite material in baseball. Also, as everbody else has been saying, it chips easily. Last but not least, it's BBCOR. All BBCOR bats wont have as much pop because of the new regulations. I know alot of people are saying that Demarini employees are also saying this bat is great, but i wanna say that in no way am i affiliated with demarini, nor do i know anybody who works at demarini.

Pros: This bat is the best bbcor bat on the market and it has the most pop of the bat out of all of the bbcor bats I have used. It looks awesome and it is composit which is the best thing a bat can be made out of. Furthermore, the bat has an awesome grip and the grip does not peel easy which is awesome. The gold paint doesn't chip and it is really shiny. The graphics on the bat are so cool. The end cap is made out of what looks like dimands. It feels and looks cool.

Cons: The bat is $400.00 for a bat, but I guess that is the cost for an awesome bat like the CF5.

Pros: Demarini has outdone itself once again!!!! My son used to swing the CF3, CF4 (his all-time favorite) and EXO Grid. Then we purchased the EXO Grid BBCOR (not bad) but he wanted to try the CF5 BBCOR and glad he did. LISTEN: THe new rules are there for a reason and the BBCOR is supposed to separate the boys from the men. If you can handle swinging with wood, then you more than likely have reached your limited potential and won't like ANY BBCOR. This one is the best .... period.

Cons: Yes, it's expensive.

Pros: hands down the best bat my 14 yr old son has ever used. last year he was using the combat B3 and when he started with the new CF5 he immediately noticed the flex and the sound. The bat is just about broken in and the pop is DEFINTIELY noticeable now. The recoil from the flex adds to the power of this bat and is defintely worth every penny.

Cons: Just the amount of time to break it in. If you wwant immediate pop, use it for soft toss with regulation balls for atleast 100 hits.

Pros: This bat is an okay choice for contact hitters. Used a brand new one from a kid on my team, had 3 line drive base hits. However, the pop isn't that great, and I'm a power hitter, and some of my hits just died off the sweet spot, they didnt carry well like with the 2013 voodoo (red), omen, s1, rip-it and others, some of which are less money...

Cons: Not great pop, do not buy this if you're a power hitter, however great for contact hitters. looks cool, good balance, but WAY overpriced... probably only worth $200 for its performance

Pros: THIS IS MY 2ND REVIEW OF THE SAME CF5. MY 14YR OLD SON STILL HAS TONS OF POP FROM THIS BAT. IN FACT, HE JUST WON HIS TEAM A BYE IN THEIR LAST TOURNAMENT WITH A TRIPLE OFF THE LEFT FIELD FENCE. THE BAT IS STILL PRODUCING AMAZING HITS IN THE GAP AND OUT HITTING ANY OTHER BAT HE HAS EVER USED. WHEN SQUARED UP AND HIT IN ITS ENORMOUS SWEET SPOT THERE ISN'T A BETTER SOUNDING BAT. MY SON IS A POWER HITTER AND THAT'S WHAT THIS BAT IS MADE FOR. IN MY OPINION SOME OF THIS BATS REVIEWS ARE FROM SINGLES HITTERS USING THE WRONG BAT?? iF YOU ARE A STRAIGHT OUT POWER HITTER THAN THERE ISN'T A BETTER BAT YOU CAN GET THAN THIS ONE!!!!

Pros: I am a high school baseball player and extremely impressed with this bat. It has AMAZING POP with a very light-feeling swing for the fastball pitchers. It has by far the lightest swing on the market and has a humongous sweet spot. Comes in pretty broken in, but progressively gets better the more you use it. You can feel the trampoline effect the second the ball makes contact with the bat. Best choice for the contact hitters who know how to put the ball in play looking for an extra boost of power on their swing.(Especially good for the opposite field hitters) Great bat for a great price

Cons: Doesn't have that loud "ping" you would have in most alloy bats.

Pros: This bat is excellent. I was in the market for a bat and I tried multiple different DeMARINI modules including the 2012 M2M and the 2012 voodoo. They also had a 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha balanced that I tried. But this bat stood out with the amount of pop and balance with the hint of nose heaviness. So I bought it and now have it broken in and love this bat. Great Job DeMARINI!

Cons: Only one so far that is it scratches very easy but when you get ball marks on it you can't see them.

Pros: This bat has a very light swing weight and a large contact area with strong pop, excellent grip and minimal vibration unless you hit off the end/cap area. If your looking for a bat that is quicker due to a lighter swing weight than a Plasma, 5150, S1 or any other so called balanced bats I'd put this one on the must try or buy list. It really set the bar for balance and power. It's also requires little break in and can be used out of the wrapper.

Cons: Vibration when hit at the end of the bat and price. DeMarini has a stingy return policy but the bat does hold up well.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini CF5 Baseball Bat BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXCFC? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does this bat have pop like a besr bat? MM21
This bat has excellent pop for a BBCOR bat. However, I think last year's BESR bat was a little better performing.
Brett
is it worth the cost ? cheesehead
Yes, this bat will be worth the money. This bat uses some of the best composite on the market right now and was made using the newest technology. The CF5 will be one of the best BBCOR bats on the market.
Brett
Do you think High Schools will look at the Composite barrel badly even though it is BBCOR approved? Batman
No, it doesn't matter what it is made of. If it passed bbcor testing then it will be legal.
Mark
It sais the bat is BBCOR but in the picture it does not show the BBCOR stamp. If you were to buy it would the BBCOR stamp be on it? James
Yes, the bbcor stamp is on the bat.
Mark
which BBCOR bat hits like this but for a cheaper cost? blake.jackson
A few good BBCOR bats that don't cost as much as the CF5 are the DeMarini Voodoo DXVDC, Nike Aero MC2 BT0633, Louisville Exogrid2 BB12EX2, and the COMBAT 52 Caliber 52CALAB1.
JH
I am a line drive hitter. Would this bat be right for me. Just wondering if this bat favors power hitters over line drive guys ultimate_philly_phanatic
This is a two-piece bat and is often preferred by line drive or contact hitters.
JH
Will the CF5 go through a breakin process similar to the older composite bats? Will they get better with time or are they as good as they are going to be out of the wrapper? AK
Yes, all composite bats will need to go through a break in. The break in time will be 100-150 soft toss hits. After this, the bat will be game ready.
Brett
Is this a good bat for power hitter? WildcatCF
Yes, this is going to be a good bat for a power hitter. This is going to be one of the best bats on the market for BBCOR. This bat is a very durable bat that has a lot of pop.
Brett
Will the bbcor standard be permanent? Will the CF5 bbcor exceed this standard after the break-in process? Lead-Off
Yes, the bbcor standard is permanent as far as we know now. No, the CF5 is designed not to exceed this standard even after the bat is well broken in.
Mark
Judging by the price, how much more performance does this bat have compared to other BBCOR bats. Jake21
Although BBCOR bats will perform pretty similar to one another, there will still be a noticeable difference between a top of the line bat like the CF5 and a lower end BBCOR model. A lot of it will come down to balance, feel and the personal preference of the player. The CF5 has very good durability, above average performance and feels great in my opinion. I would put the CF5's performance on par with the Easton Omen and Louisville Z-1000.
Brett
is this bat legal for CIF High School playi in California? moneyman
Yes, all BBCOR bats are going to be approved for California high school baseball.
Todd
Will this bat meet all the restrictions for 14 U up baseball for USSSA and High School? Dad wanting to get a bat that will last.
A bat cannot be USSSA certified and BBCOR certified. The CF5 BBCOR is used in High School and College play. It can also be used in leagues that allow a -3 drop. The CF5 BBCOR will not have the USSSA stamp on the bat.
Kara
Which would be a better BBOCR bat The Demarini CF5 or The Demarini Voodoo 2012 Nick
The Voodoo has a composite handle and alloy barrel and the CF5 is all composite. All composite bats tend to have more pop, but they require a break in period and tend to be less durable than a bat with an alloy barrel.
B.K.
I have been trying to decide whether to get the CF5 or the 2012 Voodoo, and I was going to get the Voodoo when my friends told me to get the CF5. I understand they are both good bats, but if you had to choose one between the other, which one would you choose? socal balla
The Voodoo is a two piece bat with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The CF5 is a two piece all composite bat. The CF5 will require a break in period. Approximately 100-200 swings off of a tee or soft toss, rotating the barrel 1/4 inch every swing. Since the Voodoo has an alloy barrel there is not a break in period. It's personal preference when choosing the bat, depending on if you like alloy or all composite.
John
does this bat have a lot of flex in the handle when you hit it? and what bbcor bat would you recommned for at line drive hitter? Dragons5
The CF5 does have a lot of flex since it is a composite bat. I would also look at the Voodoo. If you prefere a composite barrel than the CF5 will be an excellent choice. The Voodoo has an alloy barrel and composite handle.
K.B
what stiff handle bat would you recommend for a line drive hitter? Dragons5
There are several good stiff flex bats the Nike Aero M1 is a good one, Model # is BT0634. The Lousiville Slugger Omaha the BB126 another great choice.
Gamer
which would be better for a power hitter the demarini voodoo 2012 or demarini cf5 2012? Homerun Hitter
The CF5 is all composite which would be better suited for power hitters than the voodoo.
K.B.
I am looking to get a new bat that i can get a few years out of. Will this be legal next year also? and will this be good for a contact hitter such as myself? Lorenzo
This is a two-piece composite bat and is often preferred by line drive or contact hitters. It will be legal next year.
K.B.
Two questions: 1) How will this bat compare to the new Easton S1 when it becomes available; and 2) we have had problems with the paint/finish of other Demarinis - have they done anything to address that? MEL
With composite bats, as they become broken in the composite fibers expand. Sometimes when they expand causes spider cracks in the paint, it will not affect the integrity of the bat though. The CF5 is similar in that they are both 2 piece fully composite bats.
lkh
The CF5 is going to be slightly heavier than the S1. The S1 is lighter for a faster bat speed. We are not aware of the paint/finish coming off. This will not effect the integrity of the bat.
K.B.
What is the best BBCOR bat available? CuriousGeorge
The CF5 is the best of the DeMarini BBCOR bats. Each manufacturer has their "top of the line" model.
lkh
How can this bat be better than other BBCOR bats out there when there is a limit on the amount of pop a bat can have? i-play-baseball
Tony
Which bat would you go with - the CF5 or the Marucci Black? flad32
The CF5 is a 2 piece all composite. The new Marucci Black doesn't come out until November, but so far the word is it is 2 piece alloy barrel with a stiff composite handle, more trampoline effect, extended barrel that is 33% larger creating a bigger sweetspot. And a new handle that reduces vibration.
LKH
is this bat really worth $400 and is there something cheaper that preforms just as good or even better? TB
The CF5 uses on of the best composite materials out there, making it one of the most expensive. Other composite bats that are similar in performance are the Easton Omen and COMBAT 52 Caliber. All composite bats are going to run similar in price. If you want to go to a less expensive bat I would suggest all alloy. The Cat 5 and Easton S3 are good choices.
K.B.
I read online that you should not use this bat in temps below 60 degrees because it may break. Is this true? rebelcruizer
Colder temperatures affect the hardness of the core of the baseball. A harder core does increase the probability of a composite bat cracking during contact. I always recommend trying to keep game and practice balls warm to help with the issue. Using a composite bat in temps colder than 60 degrees doesn"t mean that it is definitely going to crack, it is just that the rate of composite bats cracking is higher in temperatures below 55 or 60 degrees.
TJ
I read online you should not use this bat in temps below 60 degrees. Is this true? rebelcruizer
Yes. It is recommended you don't use composite bats in cold temperatures.
K.B.
Which is better? An adult cf5 or a adult omen? matsui55
Both are excellent bats,it really is a matter of preference. Both are 2 piece all composite bats. The CF5 is a little more end weighted. The Omen has the low MOI so it swings lighter.
LKH
I'm very confused on which bat to get, I depend on demarini for my bats but the 2012 voodoo bat also look promising. I'm a power hitter , so which one is best and why? Baseballdude27
The basic design, 2 piece, is the same between the cf5 and the Voodoo. The biggest difference is the Voodoo has an alloy barrel opposed to the composite barrel the CF5 has. The CF5 is a slightly more balanced bat. The Voodoo is slightly end weighted.
LKH
1)Is this bat or the Omen better for a contact hitter who likes a big sweetspot? 2)Is the Omen or the CF5 more top heavy? Thanks spives1
Both the Omen and CF5 are two piece all composite bats. They both use the highest composite technology. They are both the top of the line BBCOR bats. I have heard the CF5 feels more top heavy.
K.B.
Is this bat designed to hit home runs or just to get on base? Ryan
It's designed with homeruns in mind, of course, but the batter still has to put the bat on the ball. :)
Linda
is this bat end weighted Gman
Even though this bat has a double wall barrel, it is still balanced.
Derek
What is the most balanced bbcor bat out? Gman
The CF5 has a nice balance, the Marucci Cat5 has a nice balance, the Prototype II also, the Easton Omen.
Linda
USSSA certified? parker
BBCOR bats are not USSSA certified. The Senior League CF5 is USSSA certified.
Kara
Which adult BBCOR bat is more balanced: the 2012 Demarini CF5 DXCFC, the Easton S1 BB11S1, the Easton Omen BNC2, or the Louisville TPX Z-1000 BB12Z? Also, which of the above four bats are considered for use more by line drive hitters than power hitters? dodger
All of these bats listed are 100% composite. These will be good choices and will give you some good power. The Z-1000 is a one piece bat which is better for power hitters while the others will be for contact hitters.
KG
I have a 15 year old son, he is torn between the rip it prototype II and the cf5. He is a general line drive contact hitter with a little pop. Not sure if price difference is worth it. rip it is getting great reviews, but I heard it was end loaded, thoughts??? bball
If he's a contact/gap hitter I would lean towards the CF5. The CF5 offers more flex during the players swings and is beneficial for contact hitters who are looking to add a little more pop to their hits. The Prototype will feel a little end-loaded and won't offer as much flex, making it better suited for stronger hitters.
TJ
I am choosing between this CF5, the bbcor voodoo, the bbcor vexxum, and the bbcor M2m. which has the most flex and which is least end-loaded? buckeye
The flex will be similar in those bats. A composite barrel bat tends to have more of an end-loaded feel. The more balanced bat will be the Voodoo, Vexxum and M2M.
KG
hey i am a highschool baseball player and i just recently purshased the bat, and i think when i brought it it came deformed because everytime i hit with it i feels like all of my fingers are about to break...and thats not because its cold or im just not getting it on the sweet spot but no matter where it comes of it hurts because of all the vibration...so i was wondering if i could send it back and get another bat. Shy
Once a bat has been hit with you will have to send it to the manufacture in order to get a warranty replacement bat. They will replace the bat for you for free.
KG
Is this bat also able to be used in Juniors Little League? Mike
Yes, this bat can be used in juniors little league
Sean
this or the easton xls thtbaeballguy
Both are great options, it would come down to person preference.
Derek
Which Bat is better for Power hitter? cf5 or the new rawlings 5150? Atrain27
Generally, power hitters prefer one piece bats, which would be the 5150.
Linda
do composite bbcor bats lose their pop more quickly than alloy? dad
Composite bats get better the more the player uses them. The composite material in the bat will break down giving the player more pop than an alloy barrel bat.
KG
Can you suggest which Demarini would be best for a contact hitter? I'm looking for singles/doubles more so than jacks. Tom
I would recommend the CF5 as the best bat from DeMarini for contact hitters. The CF5 will be a little better balanced than the Voodoo. The CF5 is also a two-piece that will be beneficial to a contact hitter.
TJ
Are all CF5's, including the -8 drop for Babe Ruth Leagues, BBCOR approved? batman
Only the -3 Adult CF5 is BBCOR certified. BBCOR only applies to Adult bats. If a bat has a drop greater a -3, then it will not be BBCOR certified.
TJ
CAN THIS BAT BE USED IN VERMONT HIGH SCHOOL COMPETION? COACH MAC
Yes, it is BBCOR certified which is the national requirement for high school level play.
Linda
this bat or demerini voodoo 2012 john shleburne
Both are great options, the CF5 is a full composite design, the voodoo is going to have a composite handle and an alloy barrel
Sean
knowing the difference in the drop weighting, what is the performance difference between a bbcor cf5 and a voodoo sc4 alloy if any. Thanks Gene
The biggest difference is the alloy will have a more immediate pop, where the composite takes a little breaking in, the CF5 is pretty close to broken in so it won't take much.
Linda
Can the bat get worn out if I use it too much? (I hit about 50-100 balls a day) Mick
They will not decrease in performance, but after time all composite barrel bats will crack.
John
What makes this bat better than the Voodoo? My son had the CF4 BESR last year and loved the feel. Other than the difference between BBCOR and BESR, will he notice anything else?0 Jeff
The CF5 has a composite barrel and the Voodoo has an alloy barrel. The new BBCOR bats will have thicker walls the BESR bats and have less pop. The idea is to make the bat hit more like a wood bat.
KG
does this bat chip or scrape easily matt
We have not received any feedback the bat chips easily.
Kara
is this bat allowed in Pony League? Steve
This bat would be legal for Pony Baseball in 2012. The rule states "If a player wants to use a -3 non-wood bat, it MUST be BBCOR approved."
John
Does the CF5 come in a drop 5? batboy

The suggested size for someone your size is approximately 32 inches. If you usually get a 32, I would stay with that size. If you need any other recommendations on what size to get, feel free to use the bat coach feature located at the top of our website.
Jennifer
Does the grip split easily? blt
We have not heard of this being an issue. However, in the case the grip does split, this is covered under the manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
Tyler
Im 5'7 15 and 123 but really strong and bench alot. I am looking to go to 33-30 bat. I am coming from a 32-29 and am wondering if I should go up? Dan
Honestly, based on your height and weight, a 32 inch bat would probably be the best fit. That's going strictly off your height and weight. If you think you can handle a 33 inch bat, go for it.
Tyler
Does it matter where the BBCOR stamp is on the bat? scott
As long as the stamp is somewhere on the barrel of the bat, it's good to go.
Tyler
As long as the 2012 DeMarini CF5 is marked BBCOR it will be allowed for play.
Brad
Dear Expert: I am about to purchase this bat and it must meet the "composite standard." The list has not been updated since March '11. How do I know that it will be considered legal for my son's competitive play? Below is the language from the NFHS site last year of approved bats and the CF4 is listed. Yes I see on the description it says it is BBCOR approved. At this price I just want to be 100% that it will not be a problem. Thanks. COMPOSITE BATS THAT MEET THE BALL EXIT SPEED RATIO (BESR) AND THE ACCELERATED BREAK IN (ABI) PROCEDURE AND APPROVED FOR THE 2010-11 ACADEMIC YEAR Jon
The Demarini CF5 has met all the standards required to be legal, and has been BBCOR certified for play in 2012. Here is the link to see all the specific features of this bat. http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-demarini-cf5-bbcor--dxcfc-adult/13535/
Derek
I am deciding between a CF5 and a Voodoo. I'm about 6'1" 180lbs. I'm pretty strong. Which one should I get? Jesse
Both bats are good choices and are very similar. The main difference is the Voodoo has an alloy barrel and the CF5 is a full composite bat. The Voodoo will not require a break in period and will be hot right out of the wrapper, while the CF5 will require a break in and will perform better over time. Since both bats are two piece designs, they will perform just about the same.
Jennifer
My son is 5'9' and weighs 137. What size would you recommend? 32/29 or 33/30? matt
Based on his height and weight, the recommended size is a 32/29
Tyler
How does this bat comapare to a Marruci Black? Is it worth the extra $100?? ingle
This bat is a two piece full composite bat, while the Marucci Black is a two piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The DeMarini CF5 will require a break in, while the Marucci Black won't. Both are great bats, and you can't really go wrong with either!
Jennifer
BBCOR designates what? bob
BBCOR stands for "Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution". This is a certification that adult -3 bats must have in order to be legal for play in high school and collegiate levels. It was implemented to level the playing field for all adult bats.
Jennifer
How long would you say it takes to break in the CF5 pretty well? Tyler
We recommend taking about 150-200 hits either off of a tee or soft toss, starting out at about 40% and gradually increase the closer you get to the 200 hit mark. Also, make sure you are using the same balls you would use in a game and are rotating the bat 1/4 of an inch in between each hit to ensure an even break in all around the barrel of the bat.
Jennifer
About what tepmerature is to cold to hit with the CF5? DeVo
Since the CF5 is a composite barrel bat, it is recommended not to use it in temperatures between 50-55 degrees or colder. There is a higher number of bats reported when used in these temperatures. Although, you can still use the bat in these temperatures, it is recommended to try to really limit the use of the bat.
Jennifer
Which bat has the most balanced and quickest swing, The DXCFC, The BB11S1, or The BB11X1? The Detroit Tigers
The BB11S1 has the lightest swing weight and will be the most balanced out of those 3.
Tyler
Is this bat legal for junior legion play even though it has a composite handle? docman
Under American Legion rules, they state that any BBCOR bat is legal. The DXCFC is a BBCOR bat and should be legal for you.
Tyler
Why did this bat get discounted by $100? zach
The DXCFC is being replaced by a new model. Often when a model is discontinued, they are marked down. There is not any defects or performance issues with the bat.
Kara
what is a better bat the Voodoo or the CF5? l dog
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult and the 2012 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR: DXVDC Adult are both fantastic bats from DeMarini. The main difference between these two bats is the CF5 is a two-piece fully composite bat and the Voodoo is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and an aluminum barrel. Here is a link to further compare these two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Which is better for a contact hitter, the CF5, Rip-It, or Marucci Black? Boss
I would suggest going with the Marucci Black or the CF5. These are both two piece bats that are great options for contact hitters. The Rip-It is a great bat, but it is a one piece design and it usually better suited for power hitters.
Jennifer
I'm getting ready to go into High School and I'm looking for a BBCOR bat. Will this bat remain legal because it is a full composite bat? Power Hitter
Currently we have not seen any issues with BBCOR composite bats being banned for the upcoming seasons. This bat is legal for BBCOR play and does feature a BBCOR stamp.
Kris
The Marucci Cat5 33/30 bat was legal for BBCOR play and does feature a BBCOR stamp. But the bat was banned. OscarA
You are correct. The bat was once legal for use, however the bat was retested recently and it was found that it exceeded BBCOR standards and was deemed illegal for use in high school and college level play.
Jennifer
Is this bat the best bat on the market for BBCOR ? hitter
This is Demarini's top of the line model they have to offer. The CF5 will be a two piece full composite design.
John
do you need to break this bat in? Maes22
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult does require a break in period. You can do this by taking 150-200 swings off of a tee rotating it a quarter of a turn each time.
Zach
My son is 12 and 5'7"/175 lbs. He is a strong hitter with a big, powerful swing. Is the CF 5 the best bat for him and if so, will he be better off with a 33 or 32. He's grown almost 4 inches in the past yr. I'm 6'5"/260. Jim
The CF5 is a great bat with a ton of pop. I think it would be a great choice for your son. Based on his height and weight, I would recommend a 33 inch model.
Tyler
I am a top of the order hitter, so would it be better for me to have this bat or to go with the XL2? Also, is the CF5 any better in performance than the XL2? Cards#5
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR bat and the Easton XL2 BBCOR bat are both two-piece designs. The CF5 is a two-piece fully composite design, so it will require a break-in period and will perform better over time. The Easton XL2 is a two-piece hybrid design that is going to perform better out of the wrapper. The CF5 and the XL2 will provide great performance and high durability with the biggest difference being the construction of the barrel.
Austin
Will you guys be getting any more bats soon? Specifically the 31/28 version. Thanks. Will
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR has been discontinued. The new 2013 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult is available in a 31/28.
Kara
Is this bat legal for high school ball in Texas? Is it 100% composite? Mike
Yes the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult is legal for high school play in Texas and is a two-piece fully composite baseball bat.
Tom
How does this bat compare to the XL1 based on performance, price and life of the bat? PigPen27
Performance depends on the hitter. A stronger hitter with above average swing speed may prefer the XL1 as it is more end-loaded. The CF5 is a great bat for an all-around type of hitter. Both have similar durability. Price is subject to change, but you can see the differences in price on the website.
Tyler
What is the difference between the 2012 CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC and the new 2013 CF5? Andy M
The 2013 DeMarini CF5 uses the new TR3 F.L.O. Composite material. Here is a link to more closely compare the differences between these two models. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
Is the DeMarini CF5 or the Metalstorm Black dragon a better balanced bat for a line drive hitter? Kyle
Both the Demarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC and the Metalstorm Black Dragon BBCOR: MSBDBB are balanced bats. However, the CF5 is a two piece composite and may have more flex than the Metalstorm wich is a one piece Both will be good for a line drive hitter.
Damon
What do the numbers on the end of the barrel mean? hhsslugger
The numbers you are referring to are the length and weight of the bat.
Damon
Doesn't this bat require the BESR stamp to be legally used in high school? larry mary
No. In order for bats to be legal for use in high school and collegiate level play, they must be BBCOR certified. BESR certification was the old certification that is no longer legal.
Jennifer
Is the 2013 CF5 a better bat? What are the differences? LW
The 2013 DeMarini CF5 uses an upgraded composite material that increases its durability and performance. Both are high quality bats.
Nick
It's really about the 2013, but will they ban these bats after the 2011-2012 season? sank
They should not be banned after the 2011-12 season. As long as the bat is BBCOR certified, it will be legal for play.
Tyler
Is the CF4 better than the COMbat B52? Looking at a 30/22. Cweb
These two bats are both very good options in a -8. Both of these are manufactured with composite and will give the player maximum performance. The CF5 is a two-piece bat which helps reduce the vibration/sting.
Kris
Is the DeMarini CF5 32" 29 oz approved for USSSA 14 and under league? trav
Yes. The 2012 DeMarini CF5 is BBCOR certified so it is approved for USSSA 14 and under leagues.
Damon
Is the CF5 a balanced bat or end-loaded? bigsdad
The 2012 Demarini CF5 is constructed to be a fairly two-piece bat. Though its two-piece design can make it feel end heavy to some hitters who may not be used to two-piece bats.
Shelbe
Im a 5'8" 165lb. 14 yr. old that is currently swinging a 2012 easton omen bbcor, and hitting very well with it. would this be a good upgrade for me? #11
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC would be a great choice. It is very similar in features to the Omen. Both bats are two-piece composites and very high performing.
Nick D

The DeMarini Voodoo will have more of a endloaded feel when compared to the DeMarini CF5.
Tyler

The 2012 DeMarini CF5 is a great option for someone looking to hit for power or for average. It is slightly more end loaded than the 2013 DeMarini CF5.
Tom
I am 12 years old and 115 pounds. I have a very quick swing speed. I am also 5 feet 4 and a half inches. Would you recommend the Demarini CF5 for me or the Easton XL2? Baseball is my life
Both the DeMarini CF5 and the Easton XL2 would be excellent options for you. The DeMarini CF5 is a two-piece fully composite bat, whereas the Easton XL2 is a two-piece hybrid bat (composite handle/aluminum barrel). Here is a link to further compare the two bats. http://www.justbats.com/compare/
Tom
I am 15 years old and and weight 160 lbs, I am a power hitter. Which bat would be better for me, a 2012 CF5 or a 2013 Vexxum? Ambrientano
The 2013 DeMarini Vexxum BBCOR is an end loaded bat, perfect for a hitter with some power. The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR is a more balanced bat.
Kara
I was wanting to know if this was legal for Babe Ruth play in 2013 since it is a BBCOR bat but it is composite. Trevb04
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR is legal in Babe Ruth.
Kara
is it this bat more for a contact hitter or power hitter? powerswing10
The CF5 is actually a great bat for an all-around type hitter. Not just a contact of power hitter.
Tyler

The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR would be the most balanced of the three bats listed. This is great for a younger player making the transition to a BBCOR bat.
Kara
What bat is the most balanced out of CF5, Voodoo or S3? Which one is most top heavy? indians#28
The 2013 DeMarini CF5 will be more balanced than the 2012 DeMarini CF5. The 2013 DeMarini CF5 and the Easton S3 will be very balanced. The DeMarini Voodoo will be the most end loaded.
Tom
Is this Bat Approved for usssa League? Jimmy
Yes. All BBCOR certified bats are approved for USSSA play.
Tyler
I am a line drive/contact batter and can't decide whether to buy a 2012 cf5 or 2012 voodoo. what would you recommend? ( I've used my friends voodoo and really liked the feel. Is the cf5 really that much better? Joe
I always recommend a player stick with the same bat they have previously used with success. If you used your friend's Voodoo and liked it, my top recommendation would be the Voodoo. Both are great bats though, and it comes down to your own personal preference.
Tyler
If BBCOR bats were made to meet at the same standards abd not out perform others bbcor bats why do some cost alot of money like this one and other ones? Why would i pay $250 for a bat made to perform like a bat that is $90? LH
Just like with the old BESR rating... you have some top of the line bats that are on the higher end of the performance scale, and some bats that are on the lower end of the performance scale. The BBCOR standard just places a limit on the bat's performance. It does not mean that ALL bats will perform the exact same as on another. Also, composite bats like the CF5 cost more to make, which explains why full composite bats cost more than alloy bats.
Tyler
Between the 2012 and 2013 CF5, which one is less top heavy? All star 15
The 2013 CF5 features a newer, lightweight composite material and will be a little more evenly balanced.
Tyler
I am 5 foot 1 107 lbs. And a contact hitter would a 31' 28oz. Bat be reasonable size? HomerunsGood
The average size for someone of your height and weight is actually 30" 27 oz. However, a 31" 28 oz isn't much bigger and you should be fine with that size.
Tyler
Is the CF5 and Vexxum both little league approved? fish 15 baseball
The Adult models of the CF5 and Vexxum are not approved for Little League. Little League requires the barrel size to be 2 1/4" barrel. The Youth models of the CF5 and the Vexxum are approved for play in Little League. Here are the model numbers DXCFL and DXVNL.
John

Based on your height and weight, a 31" Adult BBCOR model is most common.
Tyler
How does this bat compare to the 2013 DeMarini Vexxum? baseballer
They are both two piece bats, but the Demarini Vexxum has an alloy barrel while the Demarini CF5 has a composite barrel.
Noah
Is the barrel composite if its bbcor? darkfire710
If you are asking if the CF5 has a composite barrel and if it's BBCOR certified, the answer to both questions is yes. The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC is a full composite bat that is BBCOR certified.
Tyler
Does this bat come with Demarini's 1 year bat warranty? PopFly5
Yes, the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult baseball bat comes with DeMarini's Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty.
Jeff
Would this bat still have pop after a year or so of use? C
This 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat is a Two-Piece fully Composite constructed bat. The composite material, once broken-in, should and will last over one year of use. Typically, the break-in process will only be 100-200 swings off of a batting tee or soft toss while rotating the barrel after each swing. You will want to work that whole entire barrel diameter over. This bat will come with a 12 month manufacturer warranty.
Brandon
Will this bat be legal for the upcoming 2013 season? Will the CF5 last a while durability wise? I am going to buy my first BBCOR bat for high school. I am debating the 2012 CF5 or the Marucci Black 1. I am a contact hitter. What length do you recommend? I am 5/10 125 lbs. I heard the Marucci Black knob comes off is that true? Junior777
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat would be a great selection for your first BBCOR bat purchase. At your height and weight I would swing a 32"-29oz. or possibly step up to a 33"-30oz. This bat will have a Doublewall Barrel and a Geo Endcap. It will have a Two-Piece design with an Alloy barrel and a Composite handle. This bat will have a greatly balanced swing weight which is good for contact hitters. The amount of vibration will be reduced with the Two-Piece design. I have not heard about any durability issues with the Marucci Black. The original Black is a seamless Two-Piece design with an industry best combination of barrel size and balance point, offering a bigger sweet spot, and faster swing speeds. Both of these bats will have 12 month warranties through each manufacturer.
Brandon
Is the marucci black 1 bbcor for contact hitters. Where can I find this bat. Ok I am most likely going to get the 2012 demarini cf5 bbcor bat is it good for contact hitters. Will it be legal in the upcoming 2013 season?? Thank you Mauri
The Marucci Black BBCOR has a very light swing weight making it a great choice for contact hitters. The CF5 is also a balanced bat and a great option of an all-around hitter. The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat is BBCOR certified and will be legal for 2013.
Tyler
I'm a line drive hitter trying to gain power, and I want a composite bat, preferably a two-piece. What is the best bat for me? Ben
The DeMarini CF5 would be a good bat for a contact hitter. You could also try an Easton S1, but if you want to gain a little power an end loaded bat may be better for you. The Easton XL1 would perfectly fit that criteria.
Noah
Is the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult baseball bat good for a contact hitter? Bruno
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult baseball bat would be an excellent choice for a contact hitter. It is a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight.
Jeff
Which bat would be better batter with less strength? The DeMarini CF5 or the DeMarini Voodoo? Brad
I would recommend the DeMarini CF5 because it is a balanced bat, whereas the DeMarini Voodoo is more end loaded for a power hitter with more strength.
Damon
Which bat would you recommend for a line drive hitter trying to gain some power and distance, the DeMarini CF5 or Vexxum? J
The DeMarini CF5 has a very balanced swing weight and would be good for a player with average to below average swing speed. The DeMarini Vexxum has a slight end load and is better suited for a player with above average swing speed.
Aubrey
Could you guys make a bat pack with the old Rawlings 5150 BBCOR? dave

Jeff
How many hits does it take to break this bat in? Rod
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat requires a break-in period of 150-200 hits, soft toss or off a tee. Also, you want to rotate the barrel a quarter of an inch each swing.
Aubrey
My son is 12 and about 70lbs and 4'6. His league team is requiring him to get a BBCOR bat. Would this bat be a good fit? I have checked your bat coach and it seems that all the bats are too big. What is your recomendation? Petch34
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult baseball bat is an excellent bat, however; I think that at your sons age and size he should probably us a 29" bat. The following six bats are available in a 29" size that should work well for him: 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Balanced BBCOR: 2013 Easton Typhoon BBCOR: BB13TY Adult 2013 Easton Hammer BBCOR: BB13HM Adult 2013 Easton S3 BBCOR: BB13S3 Adult 2013 Easton S4 BBCOR: BB13S4 Adult
Jeff
What bat is better for a power hitter the Easton XL3 or the CF5? Antonio
The Easton XL3 is going to e more suitable for a power hitter, because of the one-piece end loaded design. The DeMarini CF5 will be more for a contact hitter.
Noah
I am a 15 y/o 5'10/140lbs contact and line drive hitter who is going into my first high school season. Which bat would you recommend? The 2012 Demarini CF5 BBCOR, TPX EXO2 BBCOR or the 2013 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR? CLUTCH23
Two-piece bats like the 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult are best suited for line drive hitters.
Kara
I am 17 years old, 5'6'' 150 pounds. I am a contact and line drive hitter and was looking for a new bat. I am deciding between the 2012 Voodoo and the 2012 CF5. both 32-29...-3. Which do you think is best suitable and the overall better bat? Thanks Nards
This is a difficult question for us to answer as much of the decision comes down to the personal preference of the player and what bat type of bat they have used previously. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler
Is there a package with the cf-5 and the xl-1? eagle
Unfortunately, at this time (1/15/2013) we do not offer a bat pack with the DeMarini CF5 and the Easton XL1.
Sean
Is the XL2 BBCOR or this CF5 BBCOR better for a guy that's 5 foot tall and weighs 90 pounds? a2000
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR bat and the Easton XL2 BBCOR bat are both two-piece designs. The CF5 is a two-piece fully composite design, so it will require a break-in period and will perform better over time. The Easton XL2 is a two-piece hybrid design that is going to perform better out of the wrapper. The CF5 will have more of a balanced swing weight than the XL2. Both bats will provide great performance and high durability with the biggest difference being the construction of the barrel.
John H
Is this bat legal in Babe Ruth league? Big D

I am 42 years old and play in a 35 and over league. I am 6'0, 210 lbs. I still have a pretty quick swing, but I am not a home run hitter. Line drive singles and doubles. How would you compare the CF5 to the Voodoo for someone like me? Nick
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult is a great option for a contact hitter because it is a more balanced bat than the slightly endloaded 2012 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR: DXVDC Adult. Also, the CF5 has a two-piece fully composite design, whereas the VooDoo has the hybrid design, with the alloy barrel and composite handle.
Katie
How would you compare this bat against an Easton S2 for a contact hitter? 2ndbase
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat is a two-piece fully composite design, whereas the Easton S2 is a two-piece hybrid design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. Both models will feature extremely balanced swing weights and be ideal for a contact hitter.
Aubrey
I have the 2012 Rip-It and it's end loaded (top heavy). I don't like top heavy bats because I can't get my bat out quick enough. Does this bat have good balance, unlike the Rip-It? Jeremy

Robert
Does this bat have the same weight distribution as the Easton S1? Is this bat good for a quicker swing? Jeremy
Both the DeMarini CF5 and Easton S1 are well balanced bats great for players looking to improve swing speed. However, the Easton S1 is known to be just a little better balanced.
Tyler
What is the difference between the 2012 BBCOR CF5 and the 2013 BBCOR CF5? Nike swag

Just purchased a 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR DXCFC and want to make sure I break it in correctly. I read that you recommend 150-200 soft toss swings or swings off a tee. Could I use a SwingAway for this break-in, as well? Larry
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR DXCFC can be used with a SwingAway for the break-in period, as long as the SwingAway has a real leather baseball. Be sure to take 150-200 swings, working up from 40% power, and rotate the bat a 1/4" every swing.
Katie
Is there a difference between this DeMarini CF5 and the new DeMarini CF5? tl
The 2012 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat and the 2013 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult are created the same. Both will be two-piece all composite designs. Both will feature 2 5/8" barrel diameters. The 2013 CF5 will just be even more of a balanced bat. Insanely balanced, they say.

My federation league changed the bat ruling, providing me with the opportunity to use a BBCOR for the next four years. I'm 5'8" and around 120 pounds, and I wanted to know if this bat is durable enough to last within that time frame. Is it? Hunter N
With the number of games and practices teams partake in nowadays, it's almost impossible to find a bat that will last 4 years. The DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult bat has good durability, but I don't think it would last 4 years if you use it for every game and every practice.
Tyler

The DeMarini CF5 BBCOR is a two-piece composite bat and is DeMarini's highest performing model.

The DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult will require a break-in period of 150-200 swings, working up from 40% to full power at the 150 swing mark. Use real leather baseballs and rotate the barrel a quarter inch every swing.

Can I use this bat in the batting cages, or will it damage the bat? Tvo
We do not recommend using any non-wood bat, including the DeMarini CF5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXCFC Adult, in tcommercial batting cages that use the yellow "dimple" balls. Those cage ball are much more dense than regulation game balls and could damage or shorten the useful life of your bat. Hitting those cage balls will also void the warranty through DeMarini.

The DeMarini CF5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXCFC Adult is balanced. However, the newer 2013 DeMarini CF5 BBCOR: DXCFC Adult uses new technology for a lighter swing weight than the 2012 model.

In the picture, it shows the bat has a white knob. On the CF5 I received, it had a black knob. Why is this? stormbaseball22
DeMarini often makes slight cosmetic changes to their bats, mid-run. Because of the large volume of products we carry, we are not always able to keep up with these slight changes to color by updating the product picture. The DeMarini CF5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXCFC Adult you received is the same CF5 as pictured, other than that difference.
Mac

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
