Why was this bat discontinued?
Rawlings will be releasing their 2014 Velo BBCOr model on 10/1.
Hi, my 15 year old son has the 2013 5150 VELO, and the matte finish is pealing off is this normal?
According to customer reviews the paint on the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult bat has peeled off in the past. This is not something that is suppose to happen.
Hi, I'm 13 years old and starting babe ruth. I had the DeMarini Vengeance and it was very top heavy and hard for me to swing. I'm 5'5" and weigh 90 lbs. Will this bat be the same in a 32 in 29 oz?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V has a light swing weight and will be better balanced than the Vengeance.
Is there a break-in period with Rawlings bats?
No, the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult does not require a break-in and will perform best right out of the wrapper.
If you were personally at the plate yourself would you rather use this bat or the Marucci Team red and white?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO and the Marucci Team are both great bats. If I were up at the plate I would choose the Rawlings Velo because of the great balance of the bat.
I have a 13 year old that is not particularly strong and has moderate swing speed. He is about 5'5" and weighs about 125 lbs. What would you suggest in a Rawlings?
If your son has to use a BBCOR bat, then I would recommend the 30" 27 oz. model of the 2013 Rawlings 5150 Alloy BBCOR: BBCA2 Adult for someone his size.
When will you be getting a new shipment of the 2012 33" 30 oz. 5150 VELO bats?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V is a discontinued model. We will not be adding any more back to our inventory.
Why is this bat cheaper than the 2013 VELO?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult bat is a previous year model. The 2013 VELO, is the latest model available.
My son is 5'7" 130lbs. When others with similar size have asked about bat size, the response is always 31", but the chart on your website says 33". Can you help? I ask because I like the 5150 Velo but it is not available in 32" or 33".
This Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR is a 2012 model. There are limited sizes still available. Our size chart provided general guidelines based on height and weight. This does not take into account other factors such as age and strength. I would recommend staying with the size he is comfortable with more than the size our chart recommends.
Any way to get a 33" 2012 5150 VELO BBCOR?
Unfortunately we are sold out of the 33" 30 oz. model of the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult bat. Since it is a discontinued model, we will not be receiving any more in stock.
Is this bat 100% balanced and alloy?
Yes, the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult is a one-piece alloy design and is very balanced.
I'm about 6'1" and I am planning on getting this bat but it's only in 32 and 34 inch and I usually use 33". I have pretty good bat speed, would you recommend the 32" or 34"?
I would recommend going with a 34" Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult. Initially you will see a slight impact on your swing speed, but it won't be nearly as detrimental as losing a whole inch off of your reach.
I have a question regarding the 2012 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR. I have seen pictures on the internet of what appears to be two different color schemes for the 2012 VELO BBCOR. One is red with grey lettering (as pictured on your website) and the other model is red with black lettering. But both have been listed as 2012 VELO BBCOR. Are you familiar with the difference?
Other than a slight difference in graphics, the two Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult bats are the basically the same.
I have a few questions about this bat. My son is a contact base hit type of hitter. He is also 5"2, 85 pounds, and is in 8th grade. Is this the right bat for him? Also, what's a better bat for him to get, this bat or the Rawlings 5150 Velo 2013?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO is a great bat for contact hitters. It is very balanced and it is also going to be better than the Rawlings 5150 Alloy.
What year model is this bat?

Is there any way to get this bat in the 33" size from this website anymore?
Unfortunately were are out of stock in the 33" size for the 2012 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V, but we do have the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO in the 33" size.
Is this a 2013 bat?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR: BB51V Adult is a 2012 bat.
My son hit this bat yesterday and it pops like a composite. Should I be concerned that this will not meet BBCOR test ultimately? I have heard some bats get BBCOR but then get flagged and you are out the money for a bat.
The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR:BB51V Adult is a full alloy bat. It's BBCOR certified, so you should not run into any issues with it.
Which bat has more pop this one or the RIP-IT Prototype II?
Both the RIP-IT Prototype II and the Rawlings 5150 VELO are one-piece alloy designs with very comparable pop. The following is a link for further comparison http://www.justbats.com/compare/
I just purchased this bat (Velo BB51V) for my son who is starting little league junior league this year. From the Little League website it looks like a composite bat has to bbcor rated but does not say an all metal bat also needs the bbcor rating. Is there a non bbcor bat that is approved that would have some more pop? Also, I see it is on the website for $130 and I just paid $150 for it. Is there some type of price guarantee?
The Rawlings 5150 VELO: SL51V is the non-BBCOR version of the Adult 5150 Velo and is legal in Little League. If you find the price of a bat you purchased from BaseballBats.com has recently dropped in price, you may contact us within 30 days of the date of purchase to receive a credit for the difference in price. The Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR will be a lot more balanced than the 2013 Rawlings Machine.
Are you completely out of the 32/29 size of this bat?
Yes, unfortunately it is last years model so we will not get anymore of those back in stock. We do have the 2013 5150 Velo in a 32" 29oz.
What is the difference between the 2012 5150 Velo and the 2013 Velo?
Both are similar, but the new 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO has a slightly lighter swing weight than last year's model.
Is Rawlings making a 2013 version of this bat?
Yes. Please reference the 2013 Rawlings VELO BBCOR: BBVELO.
is this 5150 VELO available in non-BBCOR version as we still have two years before High School BBCOR requirements?
The VELO is available in a non BBCOR bat. Here is the link for all the sizes available in the Velo: http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth%20big%20barrel/?s=velo

Is this a 2012 or 2013 model?

Just got this VELO for my birthday and was wondering if I am supposed to remove the shiny decals that cover the writing. Seems difficult to remove, and I don't want to if I am not supposed to.
That covering is actually meant to protect the lettering from coming off. Only the plastic that was around the barrel should be removed.

No. Both the 5150 Velo and 5150 have 2 5/8" barrels.

The 2012 Rawlings 5150 Velo BBCOR uses upgraded technology and materials for added performance and durability.
Which is better for a mainly contact hitter with some power - the M2M, 5150 Velo, or 2012 Voodoo?
Contact hitters usually prefer two-piece bats like the 2012 DeMarini Voodoo.
If I am am a 5'3" 90 pound contact hitter but have power, which bat would be better? The Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha or the Rawlings 5150 Velo?
Both bats are one-piece alloys and will have good pop. The Rawlings 5150 Velo will be more balanced for swing speed than the Omaha.
Would the Rawlings 5150 Velo compare to the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid2? Which has the greater stiffness in the handle?
Both the Rawlings 5150 Velo BBCOR and the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid2 BBCOR are one-piece alloy bat. The Exogrid2 will have a stiffer handle because of the carbon composite inserts in the handle.
Since the walls are thinner does this bring down its durability?
Usually the thinner walls will make the bat slightly less durable, but we haven't had very many problems with the Rawlings 5150 Velo breaking.

Rawlings sold the Velo to us at a lower price than the regular 5150. We are passing those savings on to our customers.
With college pitching into the low 90's and a wider range of pitches, do you think the Velo would provide slightly better bat control compared with the Omaha?
The 2012 Rawlings 5150 Velo and the TPX Omaha would provide good bat control.
On other websites the velo has black writing instead of white like this one. Will the bats with black writing and these ones with the white writing perform the same? thanks.
They are the exact same bat. Not differences in terms of performance or construction.
Which bat is most balanced between rawlings 5150 velo bbcor, the voodoo bbcor, the z1000 bbcor, and the combat 52 caliber bbcor? Can you put them in order balance wise?
The Rawlings 5150 Velo will be much more balanced than the Voodoo, Z1000, and 52 Caliber. After the Velo, the Z1000, Voodoo then 52 Caliber would be the most balanced (in that order).

I just bought this bat for the end of my season and for following years. I hit in the cages for hours each day and not one bat yet did not break. Is this bat durable or should I get a tough sleeve to protect the bat?
At Justbats.com we suggest against using your game bats in batting cages hitting the very dense dimpled cages balls. The dimpled cage balls will damage your bat sooner than later, not even a bat sleeve will fully protect your bat.
In the College World Series I saw a couple players from South Carolina using a bat called the Rawlings Velo and it was grey. Do you know when that bat could be available to buy?
We currently carry the Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR. Here is link to view that bat. http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-rawlings-5150-velo-bbcor--bb51v-adult/14823/
What do you mean when you say it has a lighter swing weight? I would think any bat that weighs 29 oz would have the same swing weight.
Any bat that is 29 oz. will weigh 29 oz. on a scale, but if the bat has a light swing weight then the weight is distributed in such a way that the bat will feel lighter to swing than a bat that is slightly end loaded.
Whats the diffrence between the rawlings 5150 and the 5150 velo?
The 5150 Velo has a lighter swing weight and is better suited for players looking to improve their swing speed.

Yes, the BB51V is a good option for power hitters. It has a lot of pop and a very balanced feel for an increased swing speed.
Is there a breakin period for the velo 5150?
No, aluminum does not require any break in.
Which is the best bat between the 5150 and the Velo 5150?
The BBCA 5150 and the BB51V 5150 are both very popular and durable BBCOR bats. The difference is the BB51V 5150 is designed to increase the players swing speed and have a more balanced feel. Both of these bats have great pop and is more on a personal choice on choosing one over the other.
Is the VELO end loaded?
This bat has a very balanced feel and is designed to give players a faster swing speed. This is not an end loaded bat.
I own a Rawlings 5150 Exogrid Ph.D. Just odered the 5150 Velo. What difference can I expect?
Even though both are one piece alloy bats, the Rawlings Exogrid will have a little stiffer feel to it than the Velo. The Velo will have a slightly lighter swing weight compared to the Exogrid.
What has been the better bat, the Machine or 5150 Velo?
Rawlings is manufacturing very good BBCOR bats this year. All three of their models have been very popular and we have seen great reviews. The Machine has a composite handle, alloy barrel with a slight end loaded feel, and the VELO is a very balanced bat, one piece design. Both bats also feature little vibration. There is no clear cut better bat between these two and picking one will be based more on what feels best to the hitter.
Is the Velo the same exact bat as the basic 5150 w/ the exception of an improved end cap, or are there other differences.? If so, what are they?
The Rawlings 5150 Velo has a lighter swing weight and is designed to increase the swing velocity. It will feel more balanced than the regular Rawlings 5150.
Is this bat better than the 5150 alloy that's $199?
The Velo is a newer model. It is more balanced than the 5150. Both are high performing bats.
What's the difference between this Velo and the identical Velo with the black letters?
These bats are all the same, just different models. This Velo is an adult bat. The others on the website that have black letters are youth and senior league bats.
How does this bat compare with the COMbat B3 BBCOR bat? Without being biased, which would you recommend?
Depends on the hitter. The Velo will have a lighter swing weight and I would recommend that one for a contact hitter looking to improve swing speed. The B3 may feel a little more endloaded and is great for stronger hitters with good swing speed
Is the Velo a one piece or a two piece bat design?
The Rawlings 5150 Velo is a one piece bat. For more one piece aluminum adult bats like this one, check out this link: http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~adult/approved%20for~bbcor/material~aluminum/
The Velo is a one piece all alloy bat.
How does this bat compare to Rawling's earlier BBCOR 5150. I've hit with the first model and I like it alot, I'm trying to decide whether to buy the earlier model or this one.
The VELO is designed to be more balanced and lighter weight.
Is this bat a good transition from -8, -5 bats?
The BB51V is lightweight and balanced. It is perfect for a player making the transition to a BBCOR bat.
I am looking for the most balanced BBCOR bat I can find. Which one would be a good choice? Please make a specific recommendation.
An Easton S1, S2, or S3, the Rawlings 5150 Velo, the DeMarini Voodoo, and the Rip-It Prototype II are all going to be some of the most balanced bats we have, just to name a few. If you need any further assistance in trying to select the right bat, give us a call at 1-866-321-2287.
Does this bat meet the requirements for use in high school play for 2012? It would also be used for Little League Seniors.
This bat is BBCOR certified, which makes it legal for high school and collegiate play. Based on the information I have, this will also be legal for Senior League Baseball. I would suggest checking with your league director to make sure though.
What, if any, difference is there between the 5150 Velo and the regular 5150 besides the paint?
The Velo is designed for lighter swing speeds and has a balanced weight.
Does the Velo BB51V or the 5150 BBCA have a longer barrel?
The Velo has a slightly longer barrel than the 5150.
Which is better? This bat or the Machine?
Either bat would be a great choice.
main differences between this and the $199 easton power brigade xl?
The Velo will be a one piece all alloy bat with a balanced feel. The XL3 is going to be a one piece alloy design as well but will have more of an endload feel to the bat.
What are the differences in the BB51V and BBCA Rawlings 5150 models.
These two bats are very similar. About the only difference you'll see is in the swing there will be what the manufacturer refers to as a lower MOI or Moment of Inertia. This is designed to increase swing velocity.
my team just bought this bat, the old 5150 and the new voodoo. which bat is the best for a heavy pull hitter?
The Velo should work really well for him.
Is this bat made with the same materials as last years regular 5150 model? Last years bat had great pop, will this model have the same? thanks.
Yes. This bat is made of the same materials, the only difference will be that the Velo is designed to have lighter swing speeds than the 5150. Both bats have great pop and will be very durable.
Is the barrel size on the 32" 29 oz bat the same diameter as the BESR 5150 EXOGRID bat? Rawlings Gold Rush bat had a noticeable difference which was smaller compared to the EXOGRID and other 5150 BESR bats; you could see and feel the difference.
Yes. The barrel diameter on the 5150 Velo will be the same as the 5150 Exogrid. I'm not sure about the Rawlings Rush Gold, as that bat has been discontinued for quite some time, but I do remember that it had a more significant taper than your average adult bat.
what is the difference between this and the one with black writing?
Both models use the same 5150 alloy. The VELO is just a newer model.
is this going to be en loaded
This is going to be a very well balanced bat and will have very good pop.
How is the pop compared to the old 5150? And are the 2 bats weighted the same?
The pop is going to be similar to the 5150. Both bats are going to be weighted the same.
My son is more of a power hitter, sounds like the velo may give him a little more pop & bat speed vs the 5150? Does it have the same balance/feel as the old 5150? Thanks!!
The Velo would be an excellent bat. It's nicely balanced, has the longer barrel for a bigger sweet spot, and great pop.
Which rawlings bat do you prefer?
The VELO is just a newer model of the 5150 alloy. Both are going to perform similar to each other.
is the velo weighted the same as the old 5150? and do the bats have about the same pop?
This bat is designed to give the player a faster swing speed. This bat is made of the same materials as the older 5150 and will have similar pop.
Will there be a huge noticeable difference between the Velo 5150 and a full composite BBCOR bat? If so, which composite bat would you suggest? My son is a contact hitter.
The Velo would be a nice choice. It is nicely balanced and has a nice pop.
would you recommend this bat over the 5150?
Both of these bats have the same alloy, this will be more of a personal preference. This bat is very similar to the original 5150.
which bat would be better for a contact hitter this 5150 easton s2 or easton s3
These are all going to be great bats for a contact hitter. The S2 and 5150 are going to be the best out of these 3 to use. They are both going to be what you are looking for.
Would you guys prefer this or the Demarini Voodo or the Rip It prototype?
Depends on if your preference is 1 or 2 piece bats, or if you prefer balanced or slight end weighting, alloy or composite. Each one of those bats offer something different. Voodoo is outstanding 2 piece, slight end weighted, composite handle, alloy barrel, great pop, the Prototype is a 1 piece all alloy, immediate pop, vibration reduction handle, nice balance. The Velo is 1 piece extended barrel for a huge sweet spot, nice balance, great pop.
is the velo5150 better than the regular 5150 and why?
They are actually quite similar in design. The Velo is designed to have a slightly lower MOI for more bat speed.
HOW IS THE POP OFF THE BAT COMPARED TO THE 5150
The Velo has Precision-Optimized Performance (pOp) Technology, so it has tremendous pop!
How does this years bat compare to last years. Im debating which to get
This has a longer barrel and is designed to increase bat speed.
would this bat be good for a contact hitter
Yes, this is a very good bat for contact hitters.
