Description

The SL11EX2 features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp and is legal for play in Louisville Slugger is proud to present the latest addition to the EXOGRID line, the EXOGRID2. The EXOGRID2 features a brand new aluminum alloy exclusive to Louisville Slugger. The AC21 Scandium Alloy gives this bat extra pop, durability, and stiffness helping make it the best EXOGRID yet. The EXOGRID2 features Carbon Composite inserts. First, metal is trimmed in a grid pattern, then replaced with carbon composite inserts that are several times stronger and lighter than the metal they replace. The last thing you want at the moment of contact is for your bat handle to flex. When the handle flexes, the barrel can't. That reduces your trampoline effect. A stiff handle produces more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and, ultimately, greater performance. The EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process uses a combination of heat and extreme pressure. This process ensures the sleeve inserts and metal wall are bonded to function as a single unit. The heart of the EXOGRID is the carbon sleeve which provides greater handle stiffness than aluminum alone ever could. Unidirectional fibers run the full length of the handle. AC21 Scandium combined with composite material ensures thin walls, outstanding durability and unmatched performance. Stiffness X Strength = Power and Performance. Free Shipping!

Pros: This bat was amazing for my son last summer. Glad it is USSSA stamp for 2012 use. He is only average size 5'4 and 120 lbs but hit 19 HRs last year (8 in Cooperstown), not bad for a middle infielder type player and not a typical masher.

Cons: It does dent up/flat spots after a solid season of use but it does produce.

A friend of mine who coaches bout this bat for his son. He mentioned that it's warrenty is not valid if the bat breaks if used in below 60 deg. weather. He also said that this bat should not be used for batting practice but is more of a game bat.Where can I find out all the information about this bat? TC
This warranty is valid not matter what temperature you are playing in, if you buy the bat then you have a one year manufactures warranty. we only suggest that these bats are not used in a batting cage, with those very dense dimpled cage balls it is likely to damage a bat.
Shelbe
I am a 12 year old power hitter. i am stuck between the Exo and the Omen. The massive sweep spot on the Omen amazes me. I used an exo before, and i hit the ball to a 300 foot fence, on one bounce. Which one do you suggest? baseballflover
Both bats will be good options. These bats have great pop and very large sweet spots. This will depend on what you like. You can't go wrong with either bat.

John
I'm thinking of gettimg this bat or the b3 I'm a power hitter. what's better 4 me? dad
Both are going to be good for power hitters. It will really depend if you want all alloy like the Exogrid2 or an all composite like the B3.
KB
How would you say this bat compares to the Demarini Voodo, Easton S2, and Combat B3? fasteja
All are going to be very high quality and perform very well. The Exogrid is a one piece alloy and would be best suited for a power hitter. It is much stiffer than the Voodoo and S2. The Voodoo and S2 are going to have more flex and better for a contact hitter.
KB
Will this bat be legal in 2013 as well. Would like to get two years out of it. Thanks Bob Bob
It depends on the league if it is legal in 2013. However, the Exogrid 2 will be legal in 2013 for play in USSSA in the 14U and below age group.

It says this bat is legal for 2012...what is the difference between this bat and the new 2012 model? We play on USSSA club team. Thanks Hey There
This bat does have the new USSSA stamp and is legal for use in 2012. The main differences between the 2011 and 2012 model is the weight difference, the 2011 model comes in a -8.5 and the 2012 model comes in a -9 and -5. The change in graphics is going to be the other main difference.
Jennifer
Is the TPX EXOGRID2 a one piece or 2 piece bat? Thank you! Jamie
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 is a one piece alloy bat, that features carbon fiber inserts in the handle. This helps make the handle more stiff and produces more barrel flex. A more flexible barrel will help create a maximum trampoline effect, thus helping to increase performance.
Jennifer

Kara
Does this bat have more pop than the Vertex? Please compare these bats! thanks! 19tigers68
Based on customer feedback, it truly seems as if ballplayers are split between the two. The Vertex does have a 2 3/4 inch barrel compared to the 2 5/8 inch barrel on the SL11EX2. Both tremendous pop.
Tyler

Tyler
What is the difference this version the 2011 model and the 2012 model? 2525
Thank you for your question. The difference between the 2011 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 and the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 are the materials. The 2012 model will have an upgrade in aluminum and composite for increased durability and performance.
Nick
Will there be new sizes coming in soon? tripleplay

Yes. The Louisville SL11EX2 is approved for Babe Ruth and Pony.
Tyler
My son is now using a 2011 Easton Omen, but is out growing it. He likes the TPX Omaha bat of a teammate. He also likes the new '12 Easton XL3. Any thoughts on whether these two bats may fit his bill? Skip
The Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha and the Easton XL3 are both one-piece full alloy bats. They both have a lot of pop and awesome durability. Either one would work very well for your son.
Nick K.
Does this bat have a composite handle? Because when I compared the bat, it said it was aluminum, but it should be half and half right? Baller
Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 is a a one-piece all alloy bat. It has never been half and half.
Kara
But your description says: Carbon Composite inserts in the handle Does that not affect the handle stiffness? Baller (again)
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: SL11EX2 will have the stiffness of a one-piece bat. The composite inserts will help to reduce vibration.
Tom
Is this bat an aluminum barrel or aluminum/composite barrel. appleguy
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2: SL11EX2 is a one-piece fully aluminum bat, but it does have composite inserts in the handle.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
