I'm debating between this bat (29/20) and the Easton XL1 (29/19). My son is about 4'7" and weighs approximately 74 lbs. He is also more of a contact hitter. What would you recommend?

I would probably recommend the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: (SL13EX) for a contact hitter. The two-piece design will provide a little bit more flex, and typically this is preferred by contact hitters. Also, this model will have a very even weight distribution. Therefore, it will be extremely easy to swing through the zone and generate a faster bat swing. Overall, the structure and weight distribution will be very fitting for his game, and I think the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: (SL13EX) would be an excellent choice.

Has the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX been discontinued? If so, why?

The 2013 Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 has been discontinued by Louisville Slugger. Louisville Slugger has released the Raid which replaces the EXOGRID 3. The Louisville Slugger Raid will be a two-piece hybrid design. It will feature Louisville's AC21 alloy just like the EXOGRID 3 but will also feature a Pure 360 Composite handle.

Would you recommend this bat or the Vexxum for a 4'9", 80 pound, 12U player who is a contact hitter and has an average bat speed? What size would you recommend?

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League is a one-piece bat which will make it stiffer than the Vexxum which will offer more flex because it is a two-piece. However, both will be light weight and balanced making both a good choice for a contact hitter. Based on the player's height and weight, we would recommend using a 30'' bat.

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League, the Louisville Slugger TPX Triton II: SL12T Senior League and the 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFX Senior League are very comparable, in terms of performance and they are all well balanced. Does Louisville Slugger not offer a composite -10 or -9 bat in a 2 5/8 barrel? We love the TPX Triton II we got from JustBats last year and are now ready to move up the TPX food chain to something a little heavier. Any suggestions? Will something akin to the Easton S1 be offered by LS or is that bat the way to go?

Currently, we do not have any composite bats from Louisville Slugger with a 2 5/8" barrel and a -9 or -10 length to weight ratio. The top rated bats that meet your criteria are the 2013 DeMarini CF5 LE: DXCFX-LE, 2013 Easton S1: SL13S110 and 2013 COMBAT B4 Portent: B4SL1.

My son swung the Louisville Slugger Triton II -12 last year in 12u league. He is playing in the 13u bracket this year. He is 5' 1", 83 lbs. He has grown quite a bit from last year. He is likely to play Legion ball 15 months from now where he will have to use a -3 bat. Should I transition him towards that length and weight ratio now? If so, what would you suggest, -9, -8? I don't think he would have much success with a -5.

Making the transition to a heavier bat is going to be very important at this time. Since he will be going to a -3 in the next year and a half a -8 is going to be the ideal size to go with to help him transition to a heavier bat later. Try taking a look at the 2012 Marucci Black.

I had the 2012 White Exogrid 2 in a 30" drop 9... It was an ok bat but it dented very badly after just a few hits... We went through 3 bats in a year and the last one still dented. In the past these were some of the most durable bats ive seen. Is this model better than last years for durability?

So far, the 2013 Exogrid 3 has displayed slightly above average durability compared to the 2012 model.

I am considering this bat and -8 DeMarini CF5 which is going to have more pop?

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX Senior League bat will come in -9 sizing. It will be one oz. lighter than the CF5. This bat will be two-piece in design with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The 2013 DeMarini CF5: DXCFR Senior League bat will be two-piece but will be made of 100% composite materials. This bat will require a period of break-in. The Exogrid 3 will not because of its alloy barrel. Both bats are very balanced. Both will have similar pop. The difference will be in the barrels being made up of alloy or composite material.

Is this bat a cold weather bat? With it being an alloy barrel/hybrid bat is the hybrid nature of it a problem in less than 50F like full composites? Would a Vertex or Omaha be better for cold weather, or maybe an Easton S3?

Playing in cold weather it is better to go ahead and just stick with a one-piece all alloy bat. Using a bat like the Easton S3, or the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha are going to be better for durability in the cold weather.
