Description

One of the hottest bats ever built and back for a limited time only! The CAT 5 burst onto the scene and became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. Now, in very limited quantities, we are offering this bat at a discounted price so you can enjoy the insane performance. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 5 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. This bat is BBCOR Certified and is legal for high school and collegiate play. The Marucci CAT 5 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Got this bat today and it is awesome! Did not think it would have that much pop because its a BBCOR but it surprised me. Definitely recommend this bat to everyone!

Cons: Everyone wants to look at it and grab it because its a bat they're not used to seeing, unlike Easton's or Demarinis

Pros: Nice grip, large barrel. When making contact feels like a wood bat. This bat allows you to still swing your wood bat and not make many changes to your swing. If you hit good with wood. You'll love this bat. Very nice sound from the bat when you make good contact. Loud beast sound! Love this bat. You have control of the ball.

Cons: Fact, These BBCOR bats aren't going to help you out. You have to be a hitter. No more half swings shots to the warning track. Fundimentals Required.

Pros: Bat is well balanced. Nice feel. I'm a player who uses wood mostly. With this bat you don't have to change your swing from the wood much. Best non wood bat ever had. You can control the ball like with a wood bat. This is the way a bat should be made. No cheat bats. Let the Prospects Shine. Thanks Marucci!!

Cons: For those who depend on the bats to make them look good? Those days are over. BBCOR bats have plenty of pop to them. But BBCOR aren't going to help you hit those check swing shot to the warning track. These bats will show you who you really are. Bye Bye cheat bats!!

Pros: The 'Maruch' has been a team favorite for our club. It has good balance (not too top heavy) and has a good solid feel when connecting.

Cons: The grip has been terrible. after only a week the grip has become loose as opposed to several other new bats in our inventory that have not had any problems

Pros: very nice feel in hand, grip is comfortable. Ball feels very true of bat.

Cons: dosen't have distance of the BESR bat as it dosent compress, however i bought this for my 13yr son this way he will be acclimated to what will be standard going forward. I feel he may be disadvantaged a bit this year, but he will be in tune with BBCOR bats while other kids will be adjusting next year to his advantage. As an ex pro player i fully understand the changover from AL to wood bats

Pros: we just received our Marucci, and played our first game with it. ALL THE PLAYERS said "what's that, I've never heard of it" after my son hit with it they all wanted to try it because of the sound and POP it has right out of the box."WOW"! Now all the kids are using it. Even the "Voodoo lovers". They all say wow it's so easy to swing and it has No STING or vibration when you hit it AWESOME BAT!!!!

Cons: EVERY ONE WANTS TO USE IT, including the Voodoo, lovers. This bat is a AWESOME BAT. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE!!!

Pros: Good pop, Does not jar hands, but if you hit the ball on the handle its not going anywhere. Feels just like a wooden bat. Great grip!

Pros: Bat has amazing pop. They say all BBcor bats have the same but this one feels better. The weight at the bottom really helps the bat head move threw the zone quicker. Also, the sweet spot feels amazing on the bat, feels like you dont hit anything and the ball goes for a ride.

Cons: No problems with the bat at all.

Pros: This is a very well balanced bat. My son has had his for 3 weeks now and is spraying the ball all over the field now. He was a primarily RCF power hitter but now is pulling it much better with this bat. You lose a little pop as you will with any bbcor vs composite bat but he has been quite impressed with this bats power and lack of vibration. He is Sold on it and very pleased.

Cons: Have seen none yet. The grip is holding up well so far and has been using it almost daily. The grip was the only negative we had heard about and we have seen no problem with his.

Pros: This bat is the best bbcor I have swung yet. I had a Demarini Voodoo 33-30 besr and this cat 5 bbcor is so much better balanced and I love the feel of the bat. I think this bat has the pop that the BESR Vodoo had. I have a wood Marucci I can't keep away from my team mates and now the Cat 5 is the same way. I was real hesitant to start using the BBCOR instead of the BESR but no more as I am driving the ball better with longer range than any bat I have ever used... Kudos to Marucci on both the wood and the aluminum. May be the new kid on the block, but you get it right. Looking for great things in school ball next spring......

Cons: I am a lefty swinger and I can tell the grip may be an issue over time. But, I do not use gloves and I have always had to regrip my bts sometimes 2-3 times in a complete season. May need to here also....

Pros: Lots of pop. Appears to be well built. Nice grip. Balanced well.

Cons: Received SEVERAL comments during conversations with other CAT 5 owners and the handle appears to have issues with cracking where it joins to the barrel with high bat speed hitters. Supposedly Marucci is replacing this model with a new model that is black. Wish I had this information prior to my purchase.

Pros: Son (17) hit very well with this bat on a cold day... No sting and great "POP"... 2 other guys used his bat and fell in love while others strugled to hit it out of the infield with their BBCOR bats.

Cons: Grip spun loose after 1 day and the bottom cap on the handle came out. Son loved bat so much he popped the cap back in, wrapped some tape on the grip, and said there was no way he was sending this bat back!So maybe cap needs to be glued in better... Still 5 stars!!

Pros: Bought this bat for my 15 y/o a couple weeks ago. He really likes it (32in/29oz). Bought it on the recomendation of a few other players that gave it a try as everyone moves to BBCOR for HS play. Here are the pros 1. Great Balance 2. Fantastic Grip/Handle 3. Seems to have very large sweet spot compared the Voodoo, CF5, and Surge that we see in practice (BBCOR models). 4. Price is good. $100 less than Voodoo and $200 less that CF5. My son is very pleased with this bat after about 500 swings in the cage.

Cons: None that are really all that bad. Has the sound (ping) of some of the old Worth bats when hit hard.

Cons: I bought this bat for my 13 yr old son last season based on all the hype. After about 5 games he stopped using it. The bat has VERY little pop. We were both very disappointed in the production. Pros: My Son is small but a very good contact/line drive hitter.Entering into Jr. High this year going to a drop 3 bat was a concern. After hitting several different brands and styles of BBCOR bats this cat 5 was the clear winner. This bat is well balanced and has a ton of pop. I am still surprised it is actually BBCOR certified. From the very first ball he hit with this bat it was obvious this was the bat for him. It has a great sound and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new BBCOR bat.

Cons: After hitting three times with it we have noticed a little bit of paint chipping. This might be a problem down the road, but who cares what it looks like?

Pros: My 16 yr loves the balance of the bat. He has tried other bats, but because many are top heavy his hands start casting away from his body. He also has long fingers and loves the grip and handle. We have used Marucci bats for the last 3 yrs. It also allowed for easy transition to wood. He had to really hit the ball true for the last several years and it has helped him focus on his swing. He is not a power hitter, but lives gap to gap. His bat was the most used bat toward the end of the year. Now in the spring, it seems to be the bat of choice.

Pros: This bat is AMAZING! The way the ball comes off the bat you could never tell it was a BBCOR. The bat has a nice comfortable grip, with a non-vibration knob. The barrel is nice and big and there is so much pop when the ball comes off the bat. And one of the greatest things about the bat is how balanced it is, and it does not require you to do anything to your swing as you change from the wood. Therefore,it is definately one of the best, if not THE best BBCOR bats out there.

Cons: You have to be a hitter with this BBCOR bats. No more bombs to the outfield without good mechanics. Requires you to be a hitter

Pros: Was OK for the week it could be used....

Cons: 33/30 is not legal, so, can't use it.. Marucci advertised it as BBCOR, which it is not. They will upsell you to the Black bat for $99 AFTER they receive the returned bat. So, no bat to use for over a week! If you wait for the replacement in March, it won't be until the END of March. A month with NO bat! Not Acceptable. Don't buy Marucci! No refund and YOU pay to ship it back AND pay for an upgrade! I love JUST BATS- not their fault on this, but STOP selling Marucci!

33/30 Return Policy Unacceptable

Pros: Good bat. Bad return policy for BBCOR decertification.

Cons: Marucci advertised the 33/30 as BBCOR certified which has now been decertified. Purchasers can't get their money back and must pay for return shipping and pay shipping from Marucci if purchaser wants express shipping. Overnight shipping charges both ways exceed $100. Otherwise expect not to have a bat for at least a week or so during Spring Season. Replacement bat may not be available untill end of March. Purchasers of this bat didn't get the BBCOR certified bat they paid for and Marucci doesn't seem to care. Unacceptable!

Pros: The grip on the Cat 5 is the best grip for any bat I have used. The pop on this bat is like no other bat, the ball seems to just fly off the bat when you swing. I used it in 35 degree weather (my first time using it) and to my surprise, there was no vibration of the bat when I hit the ball off of the cap. The bat feels great in your hands!

Great BBCOR Bat! AAU Dad parent

Pros: The Cat-5 is easily the best BBCOR bat I've seen used at either the HS or AAU level. It seems like it shouldn't be legal. My son plays in the year round in the northeast. He uses this bat in all types of weather conditions, indoors and out. There isn't a bat on the market that can handle the cold temperatures of early spring like these Marrucci Bats. Larger sweet spot than EXOGRID or any other "balanced" bat. My 15-year old is 6'-2+, skinny with long arms and he struggles keeping his swing compact. The Cat-5 helps him generate more bat speed than any other bat he has tried. If your son is wiry, get him this bat! Great line drive bat.

Pros: This bat is one of the best on the market! Extreme pop and large sweetspot as compared to other BBCOR models. I have swung 2014 Easton XL1, 2014 Easton S3, 2015 Demarini Vexxum, 2014 Demarini Voodo, Demarini CF5 & CF6, 2013 Rawlings VELO (another great choice), 2013 Demarini M2M, 2014 Rawlings Plasma, and a few other ones I don't rember off the tip of my head, and the Marucci Cat 5 is my favorite by far! Very balenced, fast through the zone, extreme power, great grip, terrific sound, NO VIBRATION, confidence building feel.

Cons: While the paint job is cool, the white does get dirt stained and scratches show through to the silver metal underneath. The gray grip gets discolored with pine tar. As with all metal bats, performance is best during warmer weather.

Great Bat A player player

Pros: This bat is unbelievable!!! I have used/owned a RIT-It Air Prototype, Easton S2, and a Louisville Slugger EXO GRID (which were all bbcor bats) and I liked those bats, but this bat is amazing. When you hit the ball the bat has a nice ping sound that you have to hear to understand. The pop is amazing and due to the anti vibration handle there is slim to no vibration. The reason I gave durability 4 stars is I haven't owned and used the bat enough to tell.

Cons: BBCOR bats do not perform quite like the BESR bats of the past, but I believe this bat will do the most for you out a BBCOR bat.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCB2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I'm just wondering if this bat feels end-loaded, because a lot of the BBCOR bats I've tried and heard people talking about are super end-loaded, which I personally am not a big fan of. Do you guys know? hankus
The Marucci CAT 5 is a very well balanced one-piece alloy bat.
Brett
Which bat has a better ratio of even balance and pop? The 2012 Demarini Vexxum BBCOR or this Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR? A. Sob
Though both bats have great pop, the Marucci CAT 5 is more evenly balanced. The DeMarini Vexxum has a slight end load feel.
John
How does this bat compare to the RIP-IT Prototype II? KP#3
The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy that is going to be one of the better bats that are under $200. This bat has very good durability and good pop. The RIP-IT is also a one-piece alloy with good balance.
Brett
If the CAT 5 and other more expensive bats all conform to the BBCOR standard, how can one be that much more "hot" than another? Aren't there limits on their performance, ie BBCOR? Derek
Good question. Just because all bats have to meet the new BBCOR standard it doesn't mean all will walk that fine line between meeting the BBCOR standard and exceeding the standard. BBCOR is the ceiling that not all bats can reach. However, the discrepancy between the highest performing BBCOR bat and lowest performing BBCOR bat will be closer than it had previously been with BESR. Feel, balance and durability will play more significant roles in choosing the best BBCOR bat.
TJ
I heard these bats are gonna be outlawed due to them being too much like BESR. Is this true? Tide5
The Marucci CAT 5 33" 30oz. bat has been deemed illegal for both high school and NCAA play. However, all other CAT 5 bat sizes are legal.
Kris
I heard that they were not going to let high school use this bat anymore. Is that true? Michael

Next month, Nov. 5 Marucci is releasing their two piece comp bat. How do you think that will rate with the CAT 5 and or Voodoo? Which would you say is the bat that will stand alone? Ken
Both Marucci bats are going to be top of the line. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy the the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid with an alloy barrel and composite handle. Both bats are balanced and provide a lot of pop.
Tony

Does it meet the 2012 BBCOR requirements? rmdunc

Both of these bats will have a balance weight. They are not end-loaded like others. The Marucci CAT 5 may be a little more durable than the DeMarini M2M.
KG
Is this bat good for contact hitters or is there another BBCOR bat that is better? Billy
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5 is an awesome bat! Nice balance, one-piece all alloy has awesome pop. Big sweet spot!
Linda
My son is 13 yrs old, 5'6" and 155 lbs. Hits line drives and occassional long ball. He is looking at the CAT 5 or Nike M1. What do you suggest? Mark
I think the CAT 5 might best suit his batting style. One-piece alloy, great pop, nice balance.
Linda
Is this bat as good as a RIP-IT Prototype II? dm
Both the Marucci CAT 5 and RIP-IT Prototype II are one-piece alloys with huge sweet spots and nicely balanced.
Linda
How does the Marrucci CAT 5 BBCOR bat compare to the Easton S3 BBCOR bat? Ironman
Both the Marucci CAT 5 and Easton S3 are very good bats. Both are one-piece alloy bats with nice balance and are excellent choices for power hitters.
Todd
Would you choose the Marucci CAT 5 or the RIP-IT Prototype II and why? I like stiff bats, price is not a factor. ilovebaseball
Both the Marucci CAT 5 and the RIP-IT Prototype II are one-piece alloys with great balance. Their stiff feel make them perfect for a power hitter.
John
Would a CAT 5 BBCOR bat or the Easton S3 be better for a smaller person? I am 4' 11" and 95 pounds. Ironman
The Marucci CAT 5 and Easton S3 are both one-piece alloy bats. For your size, you may want to consider a two-piece bat like the Marucci Black.
John
Which is a better bat the CAT 5 or the 5150 from Rawlings? I'm hearing they are both great bats for the price. 2009 Week #6 Cooperstown Champ
Both bats are great and will have similar performance. I would give the edge to the CAT 5 based the weight and feel of the bat.
K.B.
Is the sweet spot smaller than the Marucci Black.? Also is it stiffer than the Black? j123
The sweet spots are very similar. The Black is a two-piece hybrid which will give it some flex. The CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy and will have no flex.
KG
Is this bat better than the Marucci Black? And do Marucci BBCULL BLEM bats have a problem with performance? BB
The Marucci Black is very similar to the Cat 5. The Black has a composite handle and alloy barrel. Since it is a two piece bat it is most preferred by conact hitters due to a little flex. The Cat 5 is a one-piece all alloy and will have no flex. Both bats can be used by either type of hitter and it will be more on what you like and feels best to you. Our BBCULL bats by Marucci are very nice and will be your basic maple wood bat.
KG
Does the CAT 5 2 have a break-in period and how good is this bat in cold weather bobbyg
No, the Marucci CAT 5 has an alloy barrel and will be game ready the day you buy it. We don't recommend using any bat in temperatures below 55 degrees.
Sean
I've seen that this bat is supposed to have somewhat of an oversized squared knob that has a little bit of extra weight to it. But, I've also seen some people get this bat with a rounded knob on it. Why is that and does that change the weight distribution of this bat at all. Person
The Marucci CAT 5 has the same knob for all sizes and it does not alter the weight.
Sean
Currently using a 32-27 Cat 5. Will move to BBCOR in summer. Same bat but drop 3. Would you recommend a 33/30 or 32/29? He is 14YO, 5'7", 135 pounds. JB
If you are just making the transition to BBCOR bats I would recommend the smaller size.
Kara
Is this bat college approved in all levels? K
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5 is approved for all levels except for the 33" 30oz which has been banned by high school and NCAA.
Linda
What's the main difference between the Marucci CAT 5 and the Marucci Black? Is it worth spending the extra $100 for the Black? Tom
The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy bat and the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel. Power hitters usually prefer one-piece bats and contact hitters prefer two-piece bats.
Sean
Hi. I need a BBCOR -.50 for my son. He can use a -5 this year and goes to -3 next year. He is 5'4" 125#s. Could reccommend a bat and length for him please Todd Todd
All BBCOR bats are -3, so if your son can use a -5 bat this season he will not need a BBCOR bat.
Linda
Can you use the CAT 5 in the cold? I know some DeMarini's you can't use in the cold so can you use the CAT 5 in the cold? Ryan
We don't recommend using your bats when the temperature drops below 55 degrees. At that temperature, the baseballs become very dense and can damage that bat.
KG
My son is transitioning to a BBCOR bat. His current bat is the Demarini Black Voodoo, BESR, drop 3 with a 3.5 flex. Which Marucci (cat 5 or Black) most resembles that bat in terms of weight distribution and flex? knucklejack
The Marucci Black would be the closest to the DeMarini Voodoo. Both are two-piece hybrids with alloy barrels and composite handles.
linda
I'm torn between getting the Marucci Cat 5 and the TPX Omaha BBCOR BB126 I've read reviews on both and cost really isn't the main factor, I simply want the better bat that will allow me to be better, what do you recommend? And just because Marucci's are more expensive doesn't mean that there are not other cheaper BBCOR bats that are better. Wildcat Baseball
Honestly, you would not go wrong with either of those two bats. Both are one-piece alloy, both have nice balance, great pop, and both have good reputations behind them.
Linda
Should I get this bat or the Marucci Black? I hear this bat has more pop but the Marucci Black has a bigger barrel. is this true? I would really appreciate your input because I have never swung these bats and I think you guys have. Thanks. tht baseball guy
Barrel size isn't different, both are 2 5/8" barrels. But the design of the barrels are different. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy and the Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid.
Linda
My teammate uses this bat, but he has his own applied grip. Does this bat have nice grip or is it just middle of the road o.k.? Hayden_Rodgers
The Marucci CAT 5 comes with a high quality grip from the manufacturer, some people just prefer to re-wrap their own way.
Linda
CAT5 or Easton Speed? Contact hitter 5'5" 110lbs. Freshman DP
There isn't a BBCOR Easton Speed, so I would go with the CAT 5.
Kara
Is it composite? giants28
No, the Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy bat.
KG
My son would like to test the bat befor he buys it is there a place he can in Auburn, Washington? homerking29
Unfortunately, we are just an online retailer located in Kansas City, MO. You may just have to stop by your local sporting goods stores to see what options they have.
TJ
Are we going to be able to use the Marucci CAT 5 in the 2012 high school baseball season? Hitstick21
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5 is BBCOR certified, so it is legal for 2012 high school play. The only CAT 5 that is not legal is the 33" 30oz that has been deemed illegal for both high school and NCAA.
Linda
I am 6'2" 180 lbs... I hit for contact and power at times, but mostly line drives. I'm looking for a bat no more then 200 dollars. Please give me your advice on what to get. bulls13
The Marucci CAT 5 is a great bat option, so is the Easton S3 BB11S3, and the Easton XL3 BB11X3, also look at the Rawlings 5150.
Linda
What do you like better the CAT 5, Rawlings 5150, or Rawlings Plasma? AA #9
The Marucci CAT 5 and the Rawlings 5150 are very good bats with balanced weights and good pop. I would suggest either one of these bats.
KG
About how big is the sweetspot on this bat? Do you think that this is the best bat to get on the market that is below $300? marucci man
The sweet spot is fairly large on the Marucci CAT 5. This is a very good bat for under $300.00 and it has great pop. This is a good choice for someone just playing high school baseball or just looking for a well balanced bat.
KG
Are any colleges using Murucci bats? IMABEAST
Yes, there are colleges using Marucci bats.
Sean
My son is 15, 6' 4", 215 lbs and uses a 34" -3 bat. He has learned a new swing that is wrist-based compared to an extended reach swing he used to have. The CAT 5 bat looks good but I'd appreciate your input as to what would be the best bat for the buck. He's a powerful line drive hitter. Big Joe's Dad
The Marucci CAT 5 is a very good bat, it has a lot of pop and a very balanced feel to it
John
Can this bat be used for Senior / Junior Little League in 2012? Matt
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5 can be used for senior/junior little league.
John
I'm 6'2" 230 lb. I am a power hitter. I want the most evenly weight bat in the world, does this one cut it? Graywolf
The Marucci CAT 5 is a very balanced bat.
John
Which bat would you get the CAT 5 BBCOR or the new Black BBCOR? keegan
It depends on your hitting style and personal preference. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy and is better suited for power hitters. The Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid and better suited for contact hitters.
Sean
Can you use a -3 CAT 5 for 12u USSSA baseball? ryan
Yes, the Marucci CAT 5 is a BBCOR bat and you can use a BBCOR bat in USSSA play, although it is not required for that age group.
Kara
Is this bat made in the USA? I know that their wooden bats are but how about these aluminums? Jon C
The CAT 5 bats are not made in the USA, they are made in China.
KB
Is the Marucci Black better than the CAT 5? d
The Marucci Black is a two-piece bat and has a little bigger barrel and more flex. The CAT 5 is a one-piece bat and is going to be stiffer, better for a power hitter.
KB
Balance aside, is the Marucci Black straight up better than the Cat 5? wirthy
The Marucci CAT 5 and Marucci Black both have the same alloy barrel, so it comes down to your preference between a one-piece and two-piece bat.
KG
The Easton S series has the small barrel for contact hitters and the Easton XL series has the larger barrel for power hitters. Would the barrel of the Cat5 be most comparable to the S series or XL series? Austen
The Marucci CAT 5 has a barrel similar to the S series. This is a very good BBCOR bat and will have tons of pop.
KG
At $199 each, which would you recommend, the Easton Omen or the Cat 5? DaveT
For the money, I would suggest the Marucci Cat 5. One of our top sellers
Ryan
Is this bat suitable for a 13 year old power hitter who weighs 185 and is 5'8"? Is it legal in the select Super Series games? T
Yes the Marucci CAT 5 would work well for your son. The CAT 5 is well balanced with very good pop. It will be legal for Super Series games as Super Series follows high school standards.
Nick
Is there a difference between the 2011 & 2012 Marucci CAT 5? If so, how can I tell which model I have? Thanks. Double D
There is no difference between the two Marucci CAT 5 bats. These are very good BBCOR bats and have tons of pop.
KG
When a will a 31 in be back in stock? Sparky123
The Marucci CAT 5 is a discontinued bat and we will no longer stock the 31" model.
Kara
Can you tell me where on the bat the sweet spot is? I am going to buy this bat for my son and I would like to highlight the area, so he knows where he needs to make contact. thanks Matt Blue
Look for the sweet spot at the fattest part of the barrel, from the "M" of to the first "C" on the Marucci logo.
Shelbe
How does the Cat 5 compare to the Marucci Black and the Rip It Prototype II? Which of the 3 is considered to be the better bat? Are either of the 3 end-loaded? Nat
These are all top tier bats and would be a good choice. The Prototype will swing a little heavier then the Marucci's.
Shelbe
Does this bat have a balance or endloaded feel? John
The Marucci CAT 5 has a balance feel and will be a great BBCOR bat.
KG
Is this a -3 or -5 drop? DJ
The Marucci CAT 5 is a -3 BBCOR bat.
Shelbe
Last year my son had great success with the TPX Exogrid. Would the Cat 5 or the Marucci Black give him a similar feel, or is there a better choice? Dave
The CAT 5 has the similar one-piece alloy design as the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID2 so it would be more similar than the two-piece hybrid Black.
Shelbe
Would this bat be good for a 7th grade almost 13 year old cheet
Te Marruci CAT 5 is a great option if you are required to swing a BBCOR model. This bat is very well balanced and has a ton of pop.
John
Can/Should you use this bat in weather cooler than 50 degrees?? TBCulver
It is really not recommended to use this bat in temperatures that are 50-55 degrees or lower. This doesn't mean you absolutely can't use it with temperatures such as these, but it is recommended to really limit it's usage, as there is a higher number of damaged bats reported when they are used in these temperatures.
Jennifer
Does this bat have the USSSA 1.15 stamp on it? My son plays Pony and they require this. greg
The Marruci CAT 5 is a BBCOR bat and does not have the USSSA stamp. However, BBCOR bats are legal in Pony League.
Kara
I heard that the sting free handle is plastic. Does this make the handle less durable? Is this actually true? supahotfire
The MCB2 Marruci CAT 5 handle does not effect the durability. The CAT 5 has a manufacturer warranty as well if there is an issue.
Shelbe
Is there any difference between the 2011 and 2012 models? J
There is not a difference between the 2011 and 2012 Marruci CAT 5.
KB
I'm 6'1" and still growing. I tend to hit better with a shorter bat. Should I buy the 32inch bat or buy a 33 inch bat? 14
The recommended bat size for someone of your height is going to be approximately 33". If you say you tend to hit better with a shorter bat, you could go down to a 32" bat. If you need any recommendations or want to check out other bats, feel free to use our "Bat Coach" feature, or this link will also give you some suggestions: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Jennifer
What is the best bat on the market? mr baseball bat
The Marruci CAT 5 is a very good BBCOR bat and one of the most popular choices. The bat is 100% alloy and will have good pop. We consider this one of the best BBCOR bats right now.
KG
I'm a 5'7' 150lb. What size bat should I use? baseball
We suggest a 32" Marruci CAT 5 based on your height and weight.
Kara
My son is 14 yrs old. He is 5-11 and weighs 140 lbs. He hits for power. This is our first year with BBCOR. Trying to decide between the 32/29 or 33/30. What are your thoughts? Thanks. Brandon
We suggest a Marruci CAT 5 in the 32" 29oz. based on his height and weight.
Kara
Where is the sweet stop on this bat? Ahs Jv
The Marruci CAT 5 has a huge sweet spot for being a such a well balanced bat. The sweet spot will generally be from the "M" on Marucci to the second "C".
John
I hear this bat is very well balanced but how is the pop? MARTY TO
According to our customers feedback on phone calls and on our website ratings, this Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR bat has great "pop" and is one of the hottest bats on the market for BBCOR.
Robb
Do you offer this bat in a 32" 29oz.? Chuck Laumann
The Marruci CAT 5 is discontinued and we no longer carry it in a 32" 29oz.
Brad
How does the CAT 5 compare to the Omen and the Rival when it comes to the ball poping off the bat? forest baseball
The Marruci CAT 5, the Easton Omen and the Easton Rival are all really high performing bats. All of these bats are top top tier bats from Easton and Marucci.
Shelbe
What bat is better, Marruci CAT 5 or Easton S1? Not concerned about price just performance. jimmer
It is hard to say which is better. The Marucci CAT 5 is a one-piece alloy design, which is typically great for power hitters since the bat will be pretty stiff. This bat will not require a break in and will perform best right out of the wrapper. The Easton S1 is a two-piece composite design, which is great for contact hitters due to the flex and the whip like effect it gives when hitting the ball. This bat will require a break in since it is composite and will perform best over time. The composite material might also produce more "pop" due to the trampoline effect it also creates. Both are great bats and you can't go wrong with either.
Jennifer
I noticed the knob is plastic. What is the likelihood of the knob cracking or breaking off? Is it covered under the warranty? What is the procedure to replace if it broke? Bill
The Marruci CAT 5 has been a very durable BBCOR bat this year. If this bat does dent or the knob does come off whithin a year of purchase Marucci will replace the bat.
Kris
If it does get banned by NCAA will it still be legal for high school play? walt
The 33" MCB2 Marruci CAT 5 was banned on 2-17-12 by the NCAA only. All other sizes are legal for NCAA play. All sizes for the MCB2 Marruci CAT 5 are still legal for high school play as of 2-18-12.

What do I do if I have a Marucci 33/30 and it's now illegal for me to use in my season? bob
We completely understand your situation. If you purchased your CAT 5 from JustBats, please give us a call at 1-866-321-2287 and we will be happy to give you more information.
Tyler
We are aware of this ban. Please give us a call @ 866-321-2287 and we can help you out.
Kris
Since the 33 has been banned. What makes the 33 different from the other sizes. Will the other sizes be banned shortly too? JK
The testing process is specific to each size and the barrels of each size will be engineered differently. The subtle differences in the 33 inch model is what caused it to get banned. The other sizes are not in jeopardy of getting banned.
Tyler
Is it likely that this bat in 33/30 is banned in high school for THIS season? Matt
As of 2-21-12, the Marucci Cat 5 33/30 is illegal for all high school and collegiate play.
Jennifer
This bat was banned by the National Federation for State High School associations (NFHS) as of 2/21/12. See: http://www.intra-focus.com/taso/docs/2012_Bat_decertification_memo.pdf
Pete L.
Is the Marucci Cat 5 33/30 banned for high school play? Jeremy
As of 2/21/2012 effective immediately and until further notice, this (Marucci CAT 5 33") should be considered a non-compliant bat and subject to NFHS Baseball Rules.
John
What are you doing about those that purhased the Marucci 33/30 white cat 5 when you advertised it as legal? Will there be some type of exchange? Dale
Marucci is offering an exchange bat to all customers who purchased the 33" CAT 5. You can refer to their website (maruccisports.com) for FAQ's and information about the return process.
Tyler M
Is the Marucci Cat 5 31/28 legal to use in high school play? My son's coach just told him it was not and we spent a lot of money on this bat. If it is illegal what can be done? Elisa
Yes. The 31" CAT 5 is absolutely legal for use in high school. ONLY the 33" 30oz. model has been banned.
Tyler
Will the new Marucci black 33/30 be banned as well? Drew
No. The Marucci Blacks are not in any jeopardy of being banned.
Tyler
Is the 32/29 also banned? Andrew
The ruling applies only to the 33" Cat 5 BBCOR. All other sizes in the Cat 5 line are approved for NCAAA and High School play.
Kara
Why was the 33" bat banded from high school? cheta
It is our understanding a random sampling of 33' CAT 5"s were selected to be re-tested to ensure they met current BBCOR standards. During the re-testing process the NCAA came to the conclusion that the CAT5 33' was no longer eligible for play. Our very basic understanding of the ruling is that the 33' was 'too hot' and exceeded current BBCOR standards.
Jennifer
because it is too hot of a bat and easton is pissed
Boom shaka
Why has it been banned? Why only the 33 in? Both of my HS boys have this bat in the 33/28 size. Amy
The testing process for BBCOR is specific to each size of bat. Each size gets tested under the same conditions to ensure they are all eligible. Each size of bat will have different engineering in the barrel. For example, a 33' bat will have a slightly longer barrel than the 32' bat. Due to the length of the barrel the properties in the barrel like barrel thickness, MOI, etc. all will be slightly different. It is these subtleties that caused the 33" Cat5 to get banned, and not other sizes.
Jennifer
Why is it just the 33" banned? Nick

I purchased the CAT 5 32/29 for my son in December, and the cap on the knob of the bat is poping out when he hits. Is this a common problem, and will affect the bat. Do you replace the bats.? Lou
This isn't a common problem, but your bat is covered under a one year warranty through Marucci. You can contact Marucci at 1-888-627-8224 and they will be able to assist you.
Tyler
Is the 32/29 bat legal for both high school and legion play? Drew
The 32" CAT 5 is still BBCOR certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It was only the 33" CAT 5 model that was recently decertified.
Jennifer
The NFHS could not tell me why it is illegal. Is it that the bat is too good to be a BBCOR bat or what? bwlgod
It is our understanding a random sampling of 33' CAT 5"s were selected to be re-tested to ensure they met current BBCOR standards. Will the cat 5 bat be banned from high school use? Matt
Thanks for the question Matt! The only Marcci bat that has been discontinued for High School and College play is the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR: MCB2 Adult in the 33" model only. All other sizes in this model and brand are still legal under BBCOR regulations
Kole
Does the Marucci CAT 5 31/23 have a USSSA approved stamp on it? It is needed for 10u USSSA Leauge play this year. Gerald

Is the CAT 5 legal for 13 u USSSA? I am thinking of buying the 32-29. Kim
Yes, the 32" CAT 5 is legal for play in USSSA.

Only the 33" 30 oz. model has been banned. All other sizes are 100% legal.
Tyler
Thinking about buying the 34 inch 31 oz bat but who's to say they won't ban CAT5 all together. Why are they banning that particular size only? Ronnie
The testing process for BBCOR is specific to each size of bat. Each size gets tested under the same conditions to ensure they are all eligible. Each size of bat will have different engineering in the barrel. For example, a 33' bat will have a slightly longer barrel than the 32' bat. Jennifer
I have heard that there is a plastic knob on this bat. If that knob pops of after one year do I have to buy a whole new bat? Ty
Unfortunately after one year the warranty on this bat will be void and you'd have to purchase a new bat. If the knob does fall off within a year Marucci will replace the bat.
Kris
Marucci stated they were coming out with a new series in March. Will this replace the Cat5 or be an addition? patrick
The new Marucci will be replacing the CAT 5. The CAT 5 has been discontinued from production.
Kris
WANTED A CAT 5 - 33/30 BUT NOT BBCOR APPROVED. RIP-IT WAS TOO TOP-HEAVY. HOW DOES CAT5 MATCH AGAINST ANDERSON IGNITE XS? DOES BETTER WEIGHT DISTR. ON CAT-5 MAKE 34-31 A CANDIDATE? MARK
The Anderson Ignite is slightly end loaded like the Rip It. The 34" 31oz. would be a good choice for the CAT 5 because it is balanced.
KB
Is the Cat 5 32 illegal too? Scot
The AT 5 32" has not be deemed illegal. Only the 33" model was decertified.
Jennifer
What will the Cat 5 be replaced with? Personally, I'm a fan of the bat because you can actually "feel" it. Any other suggestions on what may be a similar type bat. Dante
Marucci is planning on releasing a new line called the "Team Series" in order to replace the CAT 5 later this month. Some other bats that would be similar to the CAT 5 would be the Easton S3, Rawlings 5150 Velo, and the Rip-It Prototype II, just to name a few.
Jennifer
So since i had recently bought a 33in cat 5 for the season will Marucci replace it for free with a legal bat of equal value? Wally
Yes. Marucci is working with customers in this situation. They are asking everyone to visit www.maruccisports.com/returns for more information.
Tyler
I'm a 6'4, 220 high school junior and I hit for power. Will I get more power from the CAT 5 or Black? james
Both of these bats are great choices, but if you swing more for power the CAT 5 might be a better choice for you. The Marucci Black is a great bat, but it is a two-piece design, which is usually better suited for contact hitters. The one-piece design of the CAT 5 will be pretty stiff and balanced and will help you generate even more power.
Jennifer
What size bat should be used if you are 14 years old and 5'9 185lbs. He is a power hitter. The CF5 just feels like you hit with a tennis racquet. He swings a 33/30 BBCOR now. Bill
Based on his height and weight, the suggest size for him would be a 33" bat. The CAT 5 will have a more balanced feel, so he might be able to swing it better. If you need any further help in selecting the right size for him feel free to use our bat coach feature located on our website or give us a call at 1-866-321-2287!
Jennifer
Which bat is better for power hitters, the CAT 5 or the TPX Omaha? none
Either bat would be a great choice. Both of these bats are pretty balanced and have a one-piece alloy design, which is perfect for power hitters. They will a similar performance and you can't really go wrong with either!
Jennifer
I just had my CAT 5 break during a game, does Marucci have a warranty? I've only had the bat for about 5 months. Andrew
Yes, the Marucci Cat 5 comes with a one-year warranty. You can contact Marucci at 1-888-627-8224 or www.maruccisports.com for details.
Kara
I am debating on whether to get the Marucci Black or the CAT 5. Which would you suggest? I am 16 and play travel ball. casey
That depends on what type of hitter you are. If you are more of a power hitter, I would go with the one-piece Marucci CAT 5. However, if you are more of a contact hitter than the two-piece Marucci Black will probably be better suited for you.
Jennifer
How do you feel about the way Marucci has handled the replacement of the Cat5 33"? I had to pay to return the bat to Marucci, they received it on March 15, and they are telling me the replacement may not ship until the end of April. The High School season will be over by then. Tim
The banning of the Marucci CAT 5 was an unfortunate situation that nobody could anticipate and Marucci is doing their best to correct it. When the most popular size of the best selling bat on the market is banned, you face a problem that will take some time to correct. We have full confidence that Marucci will replace the CAT 5 and reconcile the situation as soon as possible.
Patrick
How long is the break in period on the marucci black? troy
Much like the CAT 5, the Marucci Black has an alloy barrel and does not need to be broken in.

I hear that the Marucci Team is coming out soon. About when will it come out and will it be as good as some of the other top name-brand bats?(Easton, DeMarini, etc.) B-Rad
The Marucci Team is scheduled to be released sometime in late April 2012. They have designed it to be very much like the CAT 5, which is one of the top performing BBCOR bats on the market according to many players.
Patrick
My son has a tendency to hit long fly balls, I understand that the CAT 5 has more weight in the handle, might this help him hit more line drives? Hartzy
There really isn't one type of bat that will correct the tendency to hit pop-ups (assuming you're comparing bats of the same overall weight). I recommend your son work on keeping his hands and back shoulder up during his swing, stand towards the back of the box to get a longer look at the ball and practice his swing on the tee or soft toss.
Tyler
Where is it made? Tim
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR is made in China.
Kara
I am 5'2 90 pounds, a contact hitter and am considering these bats: DeMarini Vexxum, DeMarini Voodoo, Marucci CAT 5, and Marucci Black. Out of all of those which would you say would suit me the best? dylan
If you are more of a contact hitter the DeMarini Vexxum, DeMarini Voodoo, or the Marucci Black would all be good options to consider. All of these bats are two-piece designs and will work great for a contact hitter. You can't really go wrong with any of these bats.
Jennifer
Are you aware of a Marucci Cat 5 32" 29oz bat that is only BESR, not BBCOR? T
The Marucci Bat Co. CAT 5: MAAB10 Adult was BESR certified. The Marucci Cat 5 BBCOR in a 32" 29oz is BBCOR certified.
Kara
Would it be to heavy,in your opinion for a 13 year old who is 5'3 and 100 pounds? robert
If you are referring to the 34 inch 31 ounce model, yes, it will be too big for a 13 year old who is 5'3" 100 lbs. A player of that size would be better suited with a 31 inch 28 ounce model.
Tyler
I'm and 8th grader and about 5'4'' and 125 lbs. and wanting to upgrade from a 31 in. 28 oz. Easton Hammer. Would this be a good upgrade? Q7mustard
The Marucci Cat 5 is an excellent bat with great balance. We recommend a 31" 28 oz for your height and weight.
Kara
Why was this bat banned in a 33" 30 oz. version? aaron
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR: MCB2 Adult bat was banned due to excessive performance that was not certified by BBCOR standards.
Brandon
How come Kansas is using this bat in the College World Series right now? I thought it was banned. Sam
That bat is actually Marucci's new model which is the Marucci CAT 6. That bat will be released to the public in October.
Cooper
Is the 32"29 oz. banned in high school? Sam
The 32" Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) is legal for play in high school. The only sizes that were banned were the 33" and the 34" models.
Tessa
Is this cat 5 bat 31 28 bbcor certified or besr and is it banned Ash bash baseball
The Marucci CAT 5 (MCB2) will be BBCOR Certified and legal for play.
Kelby
I have the new 2015 Marucci CAT 6 in a 33" 30 oz. Do you think I should get the Marucci CAT 5 in a 32" 29 oz. just for a lighter swinging bat? Baseballstud
The CAT 5 would be an awesome bat, but the CAT 6 would also swing just as well. I feel if you already own the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) you'll be just fine!
Brandon
This verse the Cat 6 pop wise, barrel size, and balance? brian
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) and the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC614) are extremely similar in terms of overall design and performance. The differences between the two would be minor.
Patrick
Is the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR in a 32 inch 29 ounce legal to play with or no? sean
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) is legal to use in all the sizes except 33 inches or 34 inches.
Patrick
I'm in 8th grade 5'1 80 pounds. Do you think the 31 28 would be the right size for me? Monte
Based on your height and weight, the 31 inch size of the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) may be a bit too long. A 29 or 30 inch BBCOR bat would be more what we would recommend for your size.
Patrick
Is this bat balanced, or end loaded? chan
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) has a balanced swing weight.
Mac
Is this bat legal for play in high school on Long Island, New York? Butch
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) features a current BBCOR Stamp on the barrel. So if your league requires the BBCOR stamp, then it should be legal for play. We recommend contacting a coach or league official to be absolutely certain.
Tessa
Should I get the Marucci Cat 5 or Rip-IT AIR? I'm looking for a bat for the upcoming school ball season. fred
Both the RIP-IT AIR BBCOR and the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCB2 will swing very similar. The RIP-IT AIR will swing slightly more balanced. The CAT 5 will feel more stiff. Both one-piece fully alloy designs will have very high performance. Neither bat will require any period of break-in. Either option would be a perfect choice for the BBCOR hitter.
Brandon
Does the Cat 5 have a lot of pop? Also, when did this bat first come out? I ordered it yesterday from you guys so I just wanted to know a little about it. Chrismillsy
The Marucci Cat 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) was originally released in 2011-2012. It is a one piece alloy bat that is rumored to be one of the hottest bats ever. The 34" and 33" inch models were originally banned because of their performance.
Joe
What are the differences between the Marucci Cat 5 and the Marucci Cat 6 BBCOR? Also, are the Marucci Cat 5 32" BBCOR bats banned from high school ball as well? What were the safety requirements that Marucci did not pass with the 33" and 34"? Why did they pass with the 32"? One more question, should I get this bat or the DeMarini Voodoo Paradox 2013 BBCOR? Thanks. WestCoastKid
The DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR will feel more barrel heavy and end loaded compared to the CAT 5 and CAT 6 BBCOR bats. If that's what you prefer, than by all means, it would be a great option. If you prefer a lighter, more balanced option go with the Marucci Cat 6 BBCOR. The Marucci CAT 5 (33" and 34") did not pass the standards of BBCOR .50 BPF when being tested. It was performing at too high a level to be deemed legal. The smaller sizes did perform up to BBCOR standards are were deemed legal. The CAT 6 BBCOR will be more balanced compared to the CAT 5 BBCOR. Also, the CAT 6 will have a handle that will eliminate more hand sting and vibration.
Brandon
Everyone tells me to go composite. I want to know what is the difference between composite and alloy? Vince
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) is going to be an alloy bat, made of aluminum and is going to be hot and ready to go out of the wrapper. Composite bats are going to be made of carbon fibers and they will consist of a break in period of 150-200 swings off of a tee or coach pitch rotating it a quarter of an inch on each swing.
Frankie
Is the 33/30 Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) still banned from high school? conman baseball
When it comes to what leagues do or do not approve the 33" 30 oz. Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) we recommend asking your coach and/or league director to make the bat is approved before purchasing.
Liz
Is it really BBCOR certified? The reviews say they were told it is not certified and had to return bats for another style. This is confusing us and keeping us from making a purchase. JT
Before purchasing the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) we suggest asking your coach or league director if the bat is approved for play in your league. Every league's rules are a little different for what bats they do and do not approve so we recommend that you check with your league before purchasing.
Liz

Which bat is meant for power hitters, the Easton S3Z ZCORE BBCOR or the Marucci Cat 5 BBCOR? The_Revolver
Both the Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) and the 2015 Easton S3Z ZCORE Baseball Bat (BB15S3Z) could be used by a power hitter style player. Both are similar in design and have a stiff flex and high performance level out of the wrapper that a power hitter would value.
Patrick
What BBCOR bat is meant for power hitters but is $200 or less in a size 31 inch 28 ounce? Tigers1
In general, a power hitter can have success with most types of bat. The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) would be a great choice within that price range.
Patrick
Which bat is better, the Marucci cat 5 BBCOR or the Marucci Black BBCOR? pepsi_guy
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) and the Marucci Black BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBB14) are both nice models. Which would is better would be more dependent on which feel you prefer. The Black will be a two-piece design that will have a bit more flex and better sting or vibration protection to the hands. The trade off is that with that added flex, you lose some of the control over the bat head that you would get with a stiffer bat like the CAT 5. Both are nice designs.
Patrick
Which bat is better the CAT 5 or CAT 6? quin rob
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2) and the 2015 Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC614) are extremely similar in terms of overall design and performance. The differences between the two would be minor.

My 12 yr old son who is currently swinging a -10 DeMarini but is going into 7th grade and is required to use a -3 (31" 28 oz.). Which bat would you suggest for my son, the CAT5, MCB1, or the MCBT blue? Jaugs
The Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2), the Marucci ONE BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB1) Black and the Marucci Team BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBT) Blue are all going to be one-piece alloy designed bats that feature a balanced swing weight. I would suggest going with the CAT 5, only because it is going to be the newest design and have come upgraded materials then the MCB1 and MCBT.
Liz
Would the Marucci CAT5 31" be good for me? I am 5'3 and weigh 120 pounds. Jaxattax
Based on your height and weight, our Bat Coach recommends a 30" Marucci CAT 5 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCB2). Sizing is preferential though, so if you preferred to go with a 31" bat, that is definitely something to take into consideration.
Tessa

Cooper
