So far SNY03 parent

Pros: If this bat gets hotter after 300-400 swings I can't wait to see it cause its pretty hot out of the wrapper. Many people I've people seen on here complain about paint chipping and dirty grips. All I'm worried about is how it hits the ball and durability. Got my 11 year old a 32/21 and it swings light for a 21 oz. I'll update as he gets more swings on it. But so far I'm very satisfied

Cons: None so far

Pros: Great Balance. Nice color and design for the kids. The second the team saw my son's bat I had to tell them all to please ask for permission to use his bat. It quickly became our teams best hitter + one of the kids called it the 'rookie of the year'! Much better than the original too!

Cons: none (can't beat the price)

Black 2 youth from marucci Popeyes Politz player

Pros: The bat has a lot of pop and is easy to swing. The second I used it for the first time I knew it was a great bat. I continue to hit hard line drives and extra base hits with it. It is a light bat and has very quick swing speed.

Cons: It is light and therefore sometimes I have trouble waiting back on it, other than that, the bat is perfect.

My son has been swinging 9 months SNY03 parent

Pros: He's really come into his own this year. Was it all the bat?? No!!! But I had my son swing this bat up against the others and I will put it up against any of them!!!

Cons: Yes...the paint does fade...but if you are looking for bat that stays looking new...don't play and put it on the shelf!!!

The real deal LV parent

Pros: My son has a Cat5 for travel ball. He got this for rec ball. Second game swinging it he got his first HR. The speed that the ball comes off this bat is frightening. Travel ball pop in a rec sized bat. The size of the sweet spot seems larger compared to most rec bats. My son did state that it stings more than the Cat5 so he plans on using his batting gloves (he never uses gloves with the Cat5). He also thinks it has less pop than the Cat5 (however, the Cat5 is a big barrel). After a couple hundred balls, the bat hardly looks used (using leather game balls, not the cheap synthetic covered "bucket" of balls).

Cons: None so far but a little worried about durability. I have already seen a recently released youth Cat6 dented up after 2 weeks of use. However, he is the second owner of his Cat5 and there isn't a dent on it, even though it has become somewhat of a team bat.

Great bat at this price point Jason parent

Pros: My son use all alloy bats through coach pitch and they were fine. I upgraded his bat when he showed the commitment to continue in coach pitch. The sweet spot is bigger than his Easton alloy, but not by much. The handle does kill some of the vibration, but not as much as I had hoped. I'm not sure why, but he kept wanting to go back to his old bat... I couldn't determine if he felt something he didn't like or if he just didn't like the change. We used the bat through the fall season and numerous trips to the batting cages. The bat has proven to be durable and was easy to break in.

Cons: He didn't really like wearing gloves, but now he is more apt to put them on because he said this one has more vibration. To be fair, in coach pitch they are throwing to your strike zone. Now that other kids are pitching he's not finding the sweet spot as often.

Shaky quality Scott, Madeira Beach FL parent

Pros: Good bat with nice pop and balance

Cons: Poor durability. Knob broke off just a couple of weeks out of warranty. Marucci said tough luck and they don't keep extra knobs so unfixable. The rest of the bat was almost pristine. Disappointing. Will go with Easton next time.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat: MYBB20? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is the barrel length the same size as the original Black? sean
Both the Marucci Black and the Marucci Black 2 are going to have the same barrel size. The only difference is the Black 2 has an Aramid-Reinforced grip, which reduces vibration.
Noah
The bat info says Extended Barrel for a Larger Sweet Spot, but you post in a previous question that both the Marucci Black, and the Marucci Black 2 are going to have the same barrel size. Is it longer compared to the Black? hellsredsled
The extended barrel for a larger sweet spot is only a bat feature it is not comparing the Marucci Black 2 with the Marucci Black. Both bats will have extended barrels, and the barrel sizes will be the same.
Noah
Do you recommend this bat for power hitters? R
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth bat is a two-piece hybrid with a composite handle and alloy barrel. It features an extended barrel with a larger sweet spot. It also has an evenly balanced swing weight. This bat would fit a power hitter well.
Robert
I just bought my 11 year old son who plays in Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken league a Marucci Black 2 instead of the DeMarini CF5 which was our first choice. He tried both bats and seemed to like Marucci better because it was lighter than both at 30" 19oz. He is a contact hitter and I'm hoping this new bat will help him with his hitting. Did I made a good choice? Is the Marucci approved for these leagues also? Tawny
Yes, you made a great choice the Marucci Black 2 is a very high performing bat and it will be legal for play in Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken baseball.
Noah
I am a 12 year old who plays club and Little League. I like the RIP-IT Prototype Senior League a lot, but it only comes in a big barrel, so I cannot use it in my league as well. What bat will perform closest to the Prototype? Autto
The 2013 Marucci Black 2 is a two-piece bat that has a composite handle and alloy barrel, so it will be a little different than the RIP-IT Prototype. I would look at the 2013 Marucci Team Youth models. They will be very similar to the Prototype. Here is the link: http://www.justbats.com/products/baseball%20bats~youth/?s=team
Nick
Is there any way to get this bat in a big barrel with the same size and everything? Blackjack
No, the Big barrel 2013 Marucci Black 2 is going to have a -8 drop not a -11 drop.
Noah
What is the difference between the Marucci Black 2 and the Marucci Black? Boss chicken
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth bat will have a two-piece hybrid design. Also, it will feature a patented unequal kevlar-reinforced grip to help eliminate sting and vibration. Both bats will be very balanced in swing weight and feature an extended sweet spot.
Brandon
If I am 5' 95 pounds would you recommend me getting a 30" or a 31" in bat? nick
You should get the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth in a 30" bat.
Noah
How would you compare the Marucci Black 2 to the Easton S1 or XL1? Jim
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The Black 2 will be a balanced bat. The Easton S1 is a two-piece full composite bat that will have a slightly lighter swing weight than the Black 2. The XL1 is a two-piece full composite bat that will have an endloaded feel.
Tyler
My son is 11 years old 5'0" 112 pounds. What size would you recommend? jen31
For his size we recommend a 30" bat length in the 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth model.
Brandon
Is the barrel length longer, compared to other bats? baseball
The 2013 Marucci Black 2 has a extended barrel for a larger sweet spot.
Chad M.
Can this bat be used in Little League because, I'm not sure? big red
Yes. The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 is approved for play in Little League.
Tyler
My son is 12 years old and is 5'5". He is growing at a fast rate. Should I switch him to a 32" length or will a 31" by fine for him? mike
We suggest a 31" bat but if he is growing at a fast rate a 32" would be okay. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 Youth is a really balanced bat so it will fill very light.
Chad M.
Is it a big barrel bat? Cars1256
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth bat features a 2 1/4" barrel diameter and would not be considered a big barrel model. Big barrel models, with 2 5/8" and 2 3/4" barrel diameters, will also be called Youth Big Barrel and Senior League bats on our website.
Mac
When will the 2014 Marucci Black 3 be coming out? Chad
Marucci has not given a release date on any of their new Marucci bats.
Noah
Should I get this or a 2014 DeMarini Voodoo? bossyboss
Both are great bats. The DeMarini Voodoo is designed more for a power hitter, whereas the Marucci Black 2 is designed more for a contact hitter.
Damon
My son is 12 but on the smaller size being 4' 11" and only 85 lbs. Would this be a good bat for him, and what size would you recommend? Darren
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth has an extended barrel length but a balanced swing weight. Balanced bats are designed for contact hitters looking for more bat speed and control. The Black 2 is a good choice for smaller players, but its -11 length to weight ratio is 1-2 ounces heavier than other Youth models. Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model.
Mac
This is not a big barrel bat is it? yella
The 2013 Marucci Black 2 has a 2 1/4" barrel, which is not considered a big barrel bat.
Justin R.
How much more power and sweet spot do you get from the 2011 Marucci Black to the 2013 Marucci Black 2? My son is 7 and has the 28/17 2 1/4" Black MYB11. Will from HNL
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MYBB20 Youth bat does feature a more extended barrel design compared to the previous Marucci Black youth model.
Aubrey
Is the composite/aluminum seam visible? Just got this bat, but it sounds like the whole bat is aluminum. Dwwilliams72
The 2013 Marucci Black 2: (MYBB20) Youth bat is a two-piece seamless hybrid design. Unlike traditional two-piece bats, the alloy barrel has been fused to the composite handle and the seam is not visible. This bat will offer a stiff flex that is very similar to a one-piece bat.
Mac
Is this bat balanced or end loaded? Sasquatch
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) Youth is a more balanced bat.
Damon
Is this bat a baseball or softball bat? Fitz
We recommend this bat is for baseball.
Zach
Can I use this in Junior League? Jake
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) has a 2 1/4" aluminum barrel and the USSSA stamp that features the 1.15 BPF certification. It is always good to double check with the league director, but this bat should be legal for your league.
Justin R.
What is the drop on this bat? baseball bat
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) is going to be a -11 (drop 11).
Kelby
Is it legal for 50/70 baseball? sammy
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) Youth features and alloy barrel and has the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp, which makes it legal for play in 50/70.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the TPX Omaha XT Stiff? Bazeball_dad
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha XT Stiff (YBXS) are both two-piece bats with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Marucci Black 2 has a longer barrel compared to the Omaha XT Stiff. It is very durable and high performing.
Kara
Is it okay to use dimpled balls with this bat? Jon
The Marucci Black 2 (MYBB20) can be used with dimpled balls.
Kara
Is there a break in time/method required for this bat? Thanks Tpevoto
No, the Marucci Black 2 Youth (MYBB20) does not require a break-in period as it has an all alloy barrel.
Kyle J.
How would you compare the 2014 attack and the the marucci black 2 Pelon
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Attack (YBAT14-RR Youth) is going to be a two piece full composite bat whereas the Marucci Black 2 (MyBB20 Youth) is going to be a seamless two piece half and half design. There will be a slight difference in the feel of the bat when you first make contact but in terms of performance they will be very similar.
Cooper
My son is 4 foot 7 and weighs 68 pounds but he is pretty strong for his size. Do you think the 30 inch 19 ounce bat would be okay? He has been using a 29 inch 17 ounce for the the past 1 1/2 years. buck
Based on your son's height and weight and what you told us about his athletic ability, we would think that transitioning to a 30 inch 19 ounce Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) would be challenging but something that he could adjust to with some work.
Patrick
My little bro is 4' 6" and 88 lbs. What bat would be good for him? sam
The Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) would be a great selection. Also, the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum Youth Baseball Bat (DXVXL) is a very popular youth model. Both of these will be very balanced. They will have a light swing weight and be very durable.
Brandon
My son is 12 years old. What size bat would you recommend? He's 4'11" and about 90 lbs. What is the difference between the senior 30" minus 10 and the youth 30" minus 10? Steve
For a player of his size, our bat coach is recommending a 30" model. The difference between the two models will be the barrel diameter of the bat.
Joe
My 10 year old is 5'4 and 85 lbs. What suggestions do you have for a good bat? Tiff
Using our bat coach feature on our website, a 30" 19 oz. Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) would be a good size and weight for an average 5'4", 85 lbs 10 year old to use. The Marucci Black 2 is going to be a seamless two-piece designed bat with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The Marucci Black 2 has an extended barrel design which creates a large sweet spot, while still having a balanced swing weight.
Liz
Looking for my son a bat for spring season and we narrowed our choices to the Mizuno Generation or the Marucci Black 2. Which would you recommend for a contact hitter? My son is 58 inches tall and weighs 71 lbs. Derek
The Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) is a two piece hybrid bat with a balanced swing weight. The 2015 Mizuno Generation Youth Baseball Bat (GENERATION-YTH) is a one piece bat with a balanced swing weight. Both bats would be great options, but I tend to see contact hitters prefer two piece bats more than one piece bats.
Tom
What's the difference between the MYBB20 and MCBB20 bats? steve
The Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) is intended for youth play and will feature a 2 1/4" barrel diameter as well as a drop 11 length to weight ratio. The Marucci Black 2 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBB20) is a BBCOR model intended for high school and collegiate play and will feature a 2 5/8" barrel diameter as well as a drop 3 length to weight ratio.
Joe
I am 12 years old and looking for a good balanced bat for power. What bat is highest recommended? Dudley
The Marucci Black 2 Youth Baseball Bat (MYBB20) would be a great option for what you are looking for. It is well balanced and has a durable alloy barrel for hot out of the wrapper performance and good power potential.
