Description

Introducing the classiest bat to ever hit the field, the Marucci Black. Combining a longer barrel with big league balance and a sleek design, the Black offers everything players could want in a top of the line bat. Constructed using Marucci's patented new two-piece design, the Black fuses an AZ3000 Alloy barrel with a composite handle. The composite handle on the Black is made extra stiff so that players can hit for maximum power, while Marucci's AZ3000 Alloy is ultra-responsive and provides the industry's best combination of performance and durability. The barrel on the black is made extra-long which results in a larger sweet spot and increased trampoline effect. The Black also features unprecedented big league balance, which means that players don't have to sacrifice swing speed for a bigger barrel. A reduced M.O.I. gives the bat a lighter swing weight for increased swing velocity, and ultimately more power. Marucci also brings their popular anti-vibration knob to the Black which, combined with the bat's two-piece construction, effectively eliminates negative vibration to give players maximum confidence and comfort at the plate. Marucci: Taking Baseball By Storm! The Black features the USSSA 1.15 BPF. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Great bat that looks awesome. Lots of pop right out of the wrapper. No "sting". I like the seamless design. you cant even tell it's a two-peice bat unless you look close. Quality end cap. I would definitely recommend this bat.

Cons: Feels a little heavier than the -5 Demarini voodoo that I was using before but I didnt have any trouble getting the barrel through the zone. With that said, I like the Marucci black better than my 2012 voodoo.

Pros: Nice Looking Good Pop

Cons: Large paint chips exposing metal on bat after 1 use and Marucci will not stand by their product when this occurs. Have used DeMarini, Easton, Mattingly and none of them have had paint chipping like this one esp after 1 use.

Cons: None yet. Whoever is worrying about paint chips is probably eating them!

Pros: love it! No let down at all! First year using -5 and it feels better them some of my teammates -8. Great balance, large sweet spot, no sting. One of the best I have ever had, might go down as the best time will tell. I have hit with a lot of other top in bats, this one was hot right out of the wraper!

Cons: has a few chips in paint but paint doesn't make the ball jump!

Pros: As stated by others the bat is well balanced and my son hits well with it. Good pop.

Cons: We bought this bat when it first came out. The paint held up during winter training, but after my son's first tournament it was a mess. Paints chips to the metal everywhere on the barrel. Saw other bats with similar chipping issues. Called Marucci and was told the first lot of bats produced had a paint defect issue and that they would replace. Also anti-vibration insert at the knob popped lose after a session in the batting cage. Hope the replacement bat holds up.

Pros: Great bat, with some serious pop. It is very balanced and looks great too. The knob really does prevent to much sting. Also many people are complaining about how the paint scratches, it does but it hard to notice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Cons: Is extremely balanced so it does take one round or so of BP to get used to it. Not a big problem at all though.

Pros: U14 player loves the balance and good pop. Very easy bat to swing and has bat speed similar to a lighter bat due to that even balance.

Cons: Not quite the performance of a one piece composite, but great choice if your league bans composites or requires BBCOR -3 bats.

Pros: This bat is very hot right out of the wrapper. my 12 year old went with the 30/25. He plays on a Major travel team so I was worried it would be to heavy for the faster pitching. I was wrong as he hit lights out his first two tourneys with it. Highly recommended!

Cons: None yet, but we have only had it for a month.

Jrod in C'bad

Pros: My 13 year old son was looking for a -5 bat to bridge him over to the BBCOR -3 required for high school baseball. I purchased this bat because he loves his Marucci AP5 wood bat; the reviews on JustBats.com were convincing; and the price was right. When he received the bat (earlier than expected), he liked the balance & look. He really likes the pop he gets from hitting the ball on the screws. I witnessed his first at-bats with 2 hard-hit liners to Center Field and one very hard-hit ground ball that rocketed past the ShortStop between the Left Fielder & Center Fielder all the way to the fence! We're sold, and are reviewing Marucci little league approved bats for my younger 11 year old son.

Cons: No negative comments at this time.

Pros: Well balanced bat. I moved my 13 yr old son up to this bat from a -8.5 Louisville Slugger ExoGrid & this bat out performs it. May be because the Black is heavier (-5), but I believe it's because this bat is a well made bat with lots of pop.

Cons: Prefer another color. Our rival school's colors are black. Oh well, can't have it all...

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Marucci Black Senior League Baseball Bat: MSB115? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is there a difference between this bat and the white cat5. tommy
There is a big difference in the designs of the Black and the Cat5. The Cat5 is a 1piece all alloy bat. The Black is a 2 piece hybrid with an alloy barrel and composite handle.
Linda
need a bat to use for usssa this year and possibly middle school next year will the black do for both since its a -5? rabbit
Yes, the -5 is legal for usssa, but I would double check with your middle school, as to what is allowed. Some middle schools require you follow high school rules, and if that is the case, this bat won't be legal.
Linda
If the paint starts immediately chipping is that covered by the warranty? bill
Yes. You will have to send the bat to Marucci and they will send you another one.
KG
I keep seeing that these bats swing lighter than they are, my son is 8 but is big for his age (92 lbs and very stocky). He swung a cheap bat that was 30/22 at a local sporting goods store and said it felt good but the 30/25 he swung there felt too heavy. Is the 30/25 in this model too big? jacob
It really depends on the player, I would advise going with a -8 instead of the -5 size though
John
Will the warranty cover paint chips? jake
Normally paint chips will not be covered under warranty because paint chips don't affect the performance of the bat. Also,it is not considered defective.
K.B.
Yes, the warranty does cover paint chips. However, I usually tell customers that the prformance of the bat is not affected by this. You only get to use your warranty one time, and if the bat is still in working condition I would wait.
Bodie
my son is 13 year old, 5'7" and 140lbs. Last year used -8 composite. Trying to decide if he should bump up to -5 half and half Marucci Black, -5 aluminum Rawlings 5150 or stick with something with a -8? Iowa ball player
You want to move them up as they get older. Helps prepare them for high school. If he is able too, I would suggest the Marucci Black -5, it has a great swing weight and pop
Ryan
Is the Marucci Black bpf certified? Horseman
Yes, this bat has the stamp for 2012
Ryan
does this bat have a break in period. shayne
No this will be hot out of the wrapper.
Shelbe
I'm looking for a bat with a longer barrel but still has a lot of pop and has a light swing weight is this bat like that? if not what -5 is like that? VAPHANTOMS
This bat will have a longer barrel with a bigger sweetspot. The black is also a very balanced bat that will yield a lower M.O.I. What this means is it gives the bat a lighter swing weight for increased swing velocity and can yield more power.
Jennifer
Which of the -5 drop big barrels have the best balance? t'sdad
This is a well balanced -5 and has a durable barrel. Marucci makes a very good alloy bat with tons of pop and a large sweet spot.
KG
Which would be better for a medium size fairly thin 12 yr old leadoff hitter - the Black or the Cat Tb
Both the Marucci Black or the Cat 5 would be good for a hitter that fits your profile. The MSB1125 and the MSB2 are very balanced bats.
Shelbe
What is the difference in the Marucci MSB115 Senior & MSB11 Senior the only difference i could find was one was drop-5 the other drop-8. global
The only difference is the drop.
Kara
I play in the 13-14 year old little league juniors Little league division for rec ball is this bat certified? John
Yes, this bat features the USSSA 1.15BPF and is legal for Junior Little League.
Kris
Did Marucci fix the paint chip problem? Jrod
Normally, manufactures improve their products as they hear about these issues. We have not hear officially if this has been corrected. However, the chipping paint does not effect the integrity or performance of the bat.
Kara
Does the -5 black have that much of a difference "pop" wise then the -3 black? I would like to know since I'm not sure what drop i should get.Thanks. Mr. Marucci
The -3 Marucci Black has to meet the BBCOR certification. Because of this the -3 will not have as much pop as the -5 model.
Tyler
Is the black -5 ok to use in Babe Ruth league? dave
Yes. The Marucci Black MSB115 has an alloy barrel and is legal for play in Babe Ruth.
Tyler
I am 13 almost 14 and 130 pounds and 5'9 would the Marucci Black -5 be a good bat for me? I-man23
Yes the Marucci Black: MSB115 is a great bat to transition to the BBCOR bats you will have to use in high school that have a -3 length to weight ratio.
Tom
Is this bat better for a contact or power hitter? Baller
The Marucci Black is a two-piece with an alloy barrel and a composite handle, so it will have good flex for a contact hitter. Depending on the hitter it will also be good for power.
Damon
12 year old power hitter starting -5 bats in two weeks and I wonder if this is the bat for me? Unknown
Two-piece bats like the Marucci Black normally are preferred by contact hitters. We recommend the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League for a power hitter.
Kara
Swung friends 30/25 CAT 5 and kind of like it but I have been very intrested in trying a black. I'm 5'5 12 years old and 115 pounds. Should I give it a try? Also, should I go 31/26 or 30/25 from a 30/21? beast
The Marucci Black would be a great bat for a contact hitter. The two-piece bats has more flex, great for a young player. We recommend a 30" 25 oz bat.
Kara
Does paint still chip easily or was that fixed? anonymous
We have not had any recent feedback regarding the paint chipping. However, the paint chipping will not change the performance of the bat.
Kara
Is the Marucci Black:MSB115 Senior League going to be legal for 14u USSSA play in 2013? spinney
If you are not required to use BBCOR certified bats, then the Marucci Black: MSB115 features the newest USSSA stamp which makes it legal for play in 2013.
Tom
I am a 5'8'', 130 pound player looking for some more power on my swing, would you recomend this bat? crush159
The Marucci Black MSB115 is a great bat with a balanced swing speed and excellent pop. I would absolutely recommend it.
Tyler
is the marucci black -5 going to be discontinued and replaced with the team marucci bats? undecided
As of now, Marucci has not released any information on whether they will replace the Marucci Black moving forward.
Tyler
Looking for a balanced -5 bat. This or the -5 Rawlings 5150? Zak
Both the Marucci Black and the Rawlings 5150 are very balanced bats. The Marucci Black will have more flex, better for a contact hitter.
Kara
Is this bat BBCOR certified? bcoll
No. The Marucci Black: MSB115 is not BBCOR certified. Only Adult bats are eligible for BBCOR certification.
Tyler
Does the Marucci Black: MSB115 have the same weight and feel as the Marucci CAT 5: MSB25 Senior League or does the composite handle change the weight and feel? Burke
Both the Marucci Black and Marucci Cat 5 are very balanced bats. The Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid bat compared to the Cat 5 which is a one-piece aluminum design. This will cause the bats to have slightly different feel and weight distribution.
Aubrey
What is better, a short bat that's heavier or a long bat that's lighter? jane
For the Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League I would have to recommend a longer, lighter bat. A longer, lighter bat will let you cover more of the plate while not sacrificing any of your bat speed through the zone. Overall, you just want to feel comfortable with your bat and have the confidence that you can control your swing.
Brandon
How long can I use a 31" bat? joker
The size of the bat is determined by the height and weight of the player. As long as you feel comfortable with the 31" there is not reason to change.
Kara
When does the new Marucci Black 2 come out? Thanks. pin
The Marucci Black 2 is scheduled to arrive the week of October 22nd.
Kara
I am a 5'6 105 pound 12 year old boy. I am trying out for my middle school team this spring and I need a bat that will last me at least a year. I have decided on this bat but I can't decide what size to get, what do you recommend? alex the great
The recommended size for you would be a 29" bat. You could, however; move up to a 30" bat to be able to use it for a longer period of time.
Jeff
What bat do you think I should get? I'm more of a contact hitter im 5'4" 95lbs. Not sure if I should get the DeMarini Vexxum -5 or the Marucci Black -5. baseballrules222
Contact hitters prefer more balanced bats like the Marucci Black 2, but the the DeMarini Vexxum will be the same as far as performance is concerned.
Tom
My son is 14 years old & I was wondering if this bat will still be legal for 2013 Junior League, USSSA & Super Series play? ty
According to the latest rules from those leagues, the Marucci Black: MSB115 is 100% legal for play.
Tyler
Which bat is better? The Marucci Black or Marucci Black 2, and why? My son is 14, and is more of a contact hitter. He weights 112 lbs. saints
At age 14 he should be using BBCOR Certified Adult bats. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 BBCOR: MCBB20 Adult bat will be a Seamless two-piece hybrid model. It will feature an extended barrel for a larger sweet spot. It will provide a very balanced swing weight. Also, its patented Unequal Kevlar Reinforced Grip will eliminate sting. The previous year's model 2012 Marucci Black BBCOR Adult was also a two-piece Hybrid design. It was very balanced as well. The barrel on this bat will use the same AZ3000 Aerospace Alloy that the 2013 bat uses. This bat will not provide the patented Unequal Kevlar Reinforced Grip. Both bats will come with a full 12-Month Warranty through Marucci. I would have to recommend the 2013 model for your 14 year old.
Brandon
My son is 14 yrs old. His weight is 112 lbs and is 5'3. Last year he used the 31 drop 8. What do you suggest for this year? saints
Based on that information, a 31" 26 oz. model of the Marucci Black: MSB115 is recommended.
Tyler
I also have a 14 year old son who is a little bigger at 5'7 and 140 lbs. I am leaning towards the 32" -5. Is this the correct bat size for him? His JBO league does not require the -3 like high school. RZ
Based on his height and weight the 32" Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League is the correct size.
Kara
What's the difference between the MSB115 and the MSBB25? Howie
The Marucci Black 2 has Aramid-Reinforced grip which reduces vibration. The original Marucci Black does not feature the Aramid-Reinforced grip.
Noah
My son used a Cat 5 last year, very happy. I am torn between the MSB115 Black & the Cat 5 PRE-BBCOR. My son is 5'6" 130 lbs. Chip
If your son has had success with the Marucci CAT 5 we recommend staying with that model.
Kara
Is this bat legal for high school? skip
The Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League is not legal in high school. The bat must be BBCOR certified. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 BBCOR: MCBB20 Adult is legal in high school.
Kara
What size is the handle on the Black? I prefer 31/32 over the skinnier handles. bigbat
We measured the handle on the Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League and with the grip, it measures in at 1 inch.
Derek H.
Does the Marucci Black MSB115 Senior League come in a non BPF 1.15? I'm playing in a senior league with no bat restrictions. I'm looking for a 32" -5 with the highest BPF factor I can find. Steve
The Marucci Black MSB115 will only come USSSA approved with the 1.15 BPF stamp on it. All of the senior league bats on our website will be USSSA 1.15 BPF certified.
Noah
Which bat has a more balanced feel, Marucci Black or CAT 5? Lore
Both the Marucci Black and CAT 5 are balanced models. The difference between the Marucci Black and the Marucci CAT 5 is the construction of the bat. The Marucci Black is a two-piece design which has an alloy barrel and a composite handle. The Marucci CAT 5 is a on-piece all alloy design.
John G
If you run out of the 31" 26oz. would you restock it? flop a.k.a the great flopbino
As soon as we are out of stock in the 31" 26oz. Marucci Blacks we will not get anymore back in stock, because it is a 2012 model.
Noah
My son is 13yrs. old 5'8" 185. Bats in the 3rd-5th spot good contact hitter but also has power. Which bat would you recommend for him the Marucci CAT 5, Marucci Black, Easton XL1, or any other bat you would recommend? I'm thinking -5 31/26. He will be playing high school ball next year. Thanks JB
This is a difficult question for us to answer as much of the decision comes down to the personal preference of the player and what bat type of bat they have used previously with the most success. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler
What leagues can this bat be used in? I need a full list. Thanks. phil
The Marucci Black features the new USSSA 1.15 stamp. This stamp is required for bats to be legal in most leagues.
Justin R
Can I buy this bat now? And what barrel size? Vendetta
The Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League bat has a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter. And yes, you can purchase this bat now. Any bat that appears on our site is in stock and ready to ship out.
Kevin
My 13 year old son is 5' 8" and 125 lbs. He would like to use this bat for play in Little League Intermediate 50/70 league. Do you know if this bat is legal? Thank you. FrankZ3
The Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League will be legal for play in the Little League Intermediate division.
Kevin
Is this bat alloy, composite or half and half? gavenn
The Marucci Black is a two-piece hybrid design bat. With a AZ3000 Alloy Barrel and a Composite handle. It also has a longer barrel with a big sweetspot.
Chad M.
I was wondering what you would recommend a, -8 or -5. My son is playing middle school ball. He is 5 ft. 115 lbs. and I am trying to get him ready for the next level. When he will have to use a -3 only. Would using the -5 help out in the long run? Or should he start with the -8? cal
I would recommend him swinging the -5 if he can handle it. That would help propel him to the Adult BBCOR -3 bats. If the -5 seems too heavy, then it would be OK for him to have some success with a -8. The Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League bat is a great option. That is a very popular bat for that size.
Brandon
What is the difference between the MSB115 and the 2013 bat listed for $249? dirtbag
The 2013 Marucci Black 2 just has a Patented Unequal Kevlar-Reinforced Grip that eliminates sting, and the 2012 does not.
Noah
Good morning. My son Is 5' 10", 145 lbs and this will be his 1st year playing select ball. He's playing on a 13U select team. He is more of a power hitter. Would you recommend a one or two-piece bat? And possible what drop would be good from him? Scott
Two-piece bats like the Marucci Black: MSB115 Senior League are best suited for contact hitters. We recommend a one-piece 33" 28 oz. based on his height and weight.

The Marucci player advisory board was integral in testing, tweaking, and ulitmatley perfecting the glove line to have the feel and features that matter to players. Understanding this professional standard of perfection has allowed us to handcraft a performance product that will last consistently maximize your game. Handcrafted, one by one, with the highest quality materials, for superior quality and feel, these gloves will require a gradual break-in period which provides a longer lasting form and shape. Professionally Inspired. Precision Crafted. Marucci: Honor the Game.
