Description

Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been on the cutting edge of bat technology. The EXOGRID name has been a top selling bat for years, so it's no surprise that the EXOGRID 3 is one of the most innovative bats to ever hit the market. This bat starts out with Louisville Slugger's AC21 Scandium Alloy which is one of the most durable and responsive alloys on the market. Moving toward the handle you'll find that the metal is trimmed into a grid-like pattern and replaced with carbon composite inserts. These inserts are several times stronger than the metal they replace which gives the EXOGRID 3 not only its name, but also its unwavering durability. The EXOGRID design also helps to lower the M.O.I. (moment of inertia) of the bat, resulting in lower swing weights and faster swing speeds for the player! Inside the bat, the heart of the EXOGRID 3 can be found in the form of an internal carbon composite sleeve. This provides greater handle stiffness than alloy alone ever could. All of these parts are brought together using Louisville Slugger's EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process, where a combination of heat and extreme pressure bond everything into a single, solid unit. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The EXOGRID 3 features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Elite travel ball players are going to love this bat. The EXO on the barrel has grip to it. Great for cutting the ball. The grip on the handle is outstanding. Top hand control is A+. Hit for contact and hit for power. A true performer. It has a nice sound. It can fool the outfielders. This bat in the right hands is going to rip alot of baseballs.

Cons: Would like to see a 33 for the bigger kids.

I hit batting practice today, and the sound that the bat makes when you hit the ball is awesome! I would recommend this to anyone.

Pros: Tons of pop. The barrel is longer then last year's model. If you hit for power or for contact this will be a great bat. There is this rough material on the bat that is used for cutting the ball I think. It has some sweet graphics too. The best bat i have ever had.

very balanced Travel ball dad parent

Pros: Got this bat for my son to transition from a -8 to a -5. Previous bat was a -8 easton XL2. The EXO is the most balance bat he has ever owned. Two tourneys with this bat and we are sold. He is a contact hitter with a little pop. I would highly recommend this bat for any player 12-13 years old and on the smaller side. May be a little too balanced for the big strong pure power hitters. Great bat.

My son is just turning 12 and is a power hitter and big for his age. He had a big year using the 2011 EXOGRID 32/23.5. He is now looking to move to a -5. Is this bat a good choice for power and bat speed/control or would you reccommend a different bat like the Easton XL1: SL13X15 Over and Out
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Since he had success with the Exogrid previously, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 would be the best option for your son.
Tyler
My 13U son has great bat speed and prefers balanced bats. He's moving up to drop 5 now. Is this bat balanced or end loaded? Motiondan

The Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 SL13EX5 will be legal for use in Little League Juniors (13-14 years old). The Exogrid has carbon composite inserts in the handle but has an alloy barrel. As long as the barrel is alloy and not composite the bat does not have to be BBCOR certified, so this bat is legal for use.
Damon
Is this bat legal for Babe Ruth Baseball? Tt
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 is legal for Babe Ruth Baseball.
Kevin
What's the difference between the SL11EX2 EXOGRID and the SL12EX2 EXOGRID besides the .5 oz.? JOSH
The only difference between the SL11EX2 and the SL12EX2 is the .5 oz.. However, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 uses new technology with composite inserts in the handle for maximum flex.
Kara
My son is 12, 5'3" and 130 lbs. We play Nations 13U Elite level ball and I am undecided whether to move him up to a -5 or stay with a -8. I read a comment that this bat swings like a -8. Does this bat have the balancing to make it feel lighter? BigTex
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 is a very well balanced bat with a light swing weight. It depends what -8 bat you are comparing it to, but it will have a lighter swing weight compared to you average -5 bat.
Tyler
Does this bat have as much pop as last years -5 model? eric
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League will perform the same as last years model.
Frank
Is there any break in period or special needs for a brand new EXOGRID SL13EX5? WILL
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League has an alloy barrel and cmoposite handle, so it will not require a break-in period.
Marcus
My son used the DeMarini CF5 30" 22 oz. last year as a 12 year old. He is now 13, but only 5' 2" and 95 lbs. Would this bat at 30" 25 oz. be a good choice? Jimmy
If you go with the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League, the weight will increase by 3 oz. You will probably notice an initial drop in his swing speed until he learns to compensate for the additional weight.
Kevin
Does this bat have a slight end load? bobby
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League is a balanced bat, but it will not be as balanced as some other bats such as the Easton S3 or the DeMarini CF5.

Aubrey
What is the difference between the TPX EXOGRID 3 -5 and Marucci Black 2 -5? How will those differences effect performance and feel for the batter (i.e. swing, sweet spot, and bat speed)? c
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League bat is a one-piece alloy bat with a fast swing weight. The 2013 Marucci Black 2: MSBB25 Senior League bat is a two-piece hybrid bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. It also features an extended barrel and is balanced weight. The Marucci may assist the most with the batter performance.
Robert
My son is 13 and 130 lbs. When picking a length for him should we go with a 31 or 32 in this Exogrid 3 drop 5 bat? His coach said drop five 31 but if this bat hits like a drop 8 then I'm thinking we should move up in length correct? T
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 is a well balanced -5 bat, but it still won't be as light as a -8 bat. I always recommend taking the advice from the coach as they will be able to see and analyze the player's swing (we are not).
Tyler
What is the stuff on the barrel, because it is sweet? tmoney
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League has a alloy barrel and it just allows you to see it through the graphics.
Chad M.
How will composite inserts be different than a composite handle on a bat such as the Marucci Black 2? HRhits5
Even know the bats will be different, they will feel very similar. Both bats will still have a flex and have little to no sting.
Chad M.
What is the material on the barrel where it says EXO3? It is rough. jj
The material is still alloy. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League just has textured paint over the alloy.
Kara

Chad M.

You should get 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League in a 32" 29 oz. bat. If you feel like you can swing an ounce heavier the 33" bat would be fine also.
Noah

We have narrowed it down to these two bats in a -5 size and are trying to reach a decision on which would be the one to go with? Greg
The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 (SL13EX5) and the DeMarini Vexxum are both balanced models, with contact hitting in mind. If I had to say, the Vexxum may be slightly more balanced than the EXOGRID 3. You can hit for power with both models, however, with the balanced swing weight and two-piece design, they will be better suited for contact hitting.

The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 (SL13EX5) will have an average sized sweet spot. The Exogrid 3 will be suitable for contact and power hitters but it will feel more stiff than a two-piece which is typically better for a power hitter.

There really isn't a direct replacement for the Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL13EX5) in the 2014 or 2015 Slugger product lines. The most similar models to the EXOGRID of the three you have listed would be the Omaha 515 and Select 715. The EXOGRID is essentially a one-piece alloy design that features composite inserts in the handle. The EXOGRID 3 models are still pretty balanced like the 915, 715, and 515.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
