Description

If you're looking for overall value, a bat to get you through the end of the Summer season, or just solid wood to use in the cage, look no further than the Louisville Slugger MLB Prime BLEM Maple Wood Bat: LSMLBLEM. Each Louisville Slugger MLB Prime BLEM Maple Wood Bat: LSMLBLEM is created with the intention of becoming a member of Slugger's top wood bat line: the MLB Prime Series. But due to cosmetic blemishes in the wood such as Tiger Striping in the wood, uneven grain, light/heavy billets, and many other minor cosmetic flaws, Louisville Slugger separates each LSMLBLEM from the stock destined for game-day action and air time in the Big Leagues. The bats that are left behind are still much too good to end up in the trash pile, so these solid Maple bats are finished with the popular bone-rubbing process that closes the pores in the wood for added durability and pop. Expect a classic feel and booming sound on contact from these guys, as they're all cut from extremely dense Amish Veneer Maple Wood - a staple for professional hitters since the late '90s. Each Louisville Slugger MLB Prime BLEM Maple Wood Bat: LSMLBLEM will feature an approximate -2 to -3 length to weight ratio and can be used in most adult wood bat leagues. Phenomenal bat Stone patterson player

Pros: I bought this bat as a joke I got it in a 35 I completely expected a massive batting practice bat but due to the amazing balance it feels lighter than most 32s

Good item ARob4040 player

Pros: Very good bats actually. Got 2 34. One feels like a -3 the other is a lot heavier. Guessing about a -1. You can't see the blemishes at all. I will buy again.

Cons: Just didn't like that they are labeled BLEM on the barrel. I removed it real easy. No one could tell

Faced the Hack Attack Machine. John coach

Pros: This bat is solid had two players use this bat in the tunnel hitting off the Hack Attack machine throwing around 85 to 90mph. No sign of damage. The bat looks good other than the slight stamp that says BLEM. I bought the Two Pack. Both bats had down in the handle area a small burnt mark. If they are calling this a BLEM for that reason I would buy this bat all day long.

Cons: None

I received 2 maple and one birch bat Trevor player

Pros: Solid grain No obvious blemishes

Cons: i didn't mind this but i did receive one BIRCH bat(maybe it was mislabeled as birch and that is why its a blem) and 2 maple, not the 3 maple specified One bat had a very large knob and taper on the handle The bats were unfinished, so i had to finish them myself.

Great Practice Bat (Honest Review) Danny player

Pros: Bat is heavy and handles itself. Place the barrel on the ball and it flies! Great bat to use in practice especially for the low price. I'm constantly coming back to get more! Plus has a great sound.

Cons: Sadly, since they are Blemish bats they aren't really "complete", so far I have bought 4 of these and 2 of them broke completely in half on hits that an expensive wood bat wouldn't break on. Honestly really love these bats, just wouldn't personally recommend they be used in game as they seem a little fragile from my experiences.

$30 for a MLB prime from LS?!?! DAP coach

Pros: Simply beautiful piece of maple. LOVE the sound of a sweet spot hit. I bought two, cut one down 2" for my 14U son. Was easy to re-bevel and round the end and with some work was able to cup the barrel--pretty much impossible to tell it was modified. Stained and poly'd for a custom look.

Cons: The bats come naked. We took one out to hit before any stain or poly and with no finish the bat had some wear from ball seams. I would suggest some sort of finish prior to use.

The Louisville Slugger MLB Prime Natural BLEM Maple Wood Bat: LSMLBLEM are not unfinished. They are blemished. These BLEM Bats were pulled from production for any number of reasons that did not meet Louisville Slugger's standards. It may have been something as simple as a slanted label or a scratch in the wood. It does not necessarily mean that they are more susceptible to breaking.

What is the turn model for the bat? Is it possible to get the turn model 271? MrConcepcion13
The Louisville Slugger MLB Prime Natural BLEM Maple Wood Bat: LSMLBLEM will not be one specific turn model as these bats are going to be BLEM bats. With a BLEM bat, these bats were pulled from the production line for any number of reasons that did not meet Louisville Slugger's standards; thus it can be any turn Louisville Slugger produces. There is no guarantee that you would get a 271 turn model. You could always return a bat unused if it was not a 271 but the exchange bat could also not be a 271 turn model.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
