Description

For over 125 years, Louisville Slugger wood bats have been in the hands of some of the game's biggest stars. Now, Louisville Slugger wants to bring players all over the country the same bats that they put in the hands of MLB all-stars. The MLB Prime Signature Series bats are turned to each player's exact specifications using the highest grade wood available. This bat is Brandon Phillips' game day bat and features Veneer Birch wood with a C271 turning model. These bats are made to be as hard as possible, with quality that can't be exceeded. That is partially due to their Amish Craftsmanship, that takes from the techniques used by Amish woodworkers including cutting from square billets and hand sawing, followed by being placed in advanced vacuum drying chambers. The bats are then subjected to Louisville Slugger's 360 Degree Compression that guarantees 360 degrees or hardness with absolutely no soft spots. This creates a harder, more durable bat and makes bone rubbing a thing of the past. If you want to get the most out of your game this season, swing what the pros swing. Te from BC Terry Esteve player

Pros: Very balanced bat, flex like ash but pop like maple. Swing a 34" and has better pop than my BBCOR. Gave it 5 stars all the way around, will find out about the durability, only had it for a week but have hit with it everyday in mid 40 to 50's temp and ball still jumps with no sting.

Cons: None

Why choose Birch over Maple or Ash? Would this swing like a Marucci VW10? Jk
The Louisville Slugger MLB Prime Birch Wood Baseball Bat (WBVB14-71CBE Adult) will feature a very hard wood being part of the Prime series. The Marucci VW10 will also feature a very hard bone rubbed wood. The durability will be great on both.
Brandon
What is the spot on the black part of the bat for? JLJ
The spot you're referring to is the Pro Ink Dot Test. The ink dot is placed on the bat taper to measure the slope of the grain. The lower the degree of slope will result in higher performance and durability of the bat, and MLB requires that all Ink Dot Certified bats have a slope that is no greater than 3 degrees.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
