Excellent wood bat at a great price. 7 year old son swings it stronger than his Omaha LE. Good for training.

Pros:
Good weight distribution and pop. Bought a 28" for my 10-year-old to use in a wood bat tournament and he liked it so much he's talking about using it instead of his Easton Quantum in league play.
Cons:
Dark finish gets marked up easily.

How long do you think this bat will last for a 14 year old?

The Louisville Slugger Maple Wood (MLBHMYG) is a youth model. For that age we would suggest moving them into an a adult model. You could run into some durability issues using this model for a 14 year old.

What is the difference between this bat and the Louisville Slugger MLBM9YBH? Also, my 9 year old son swings a 29" -12 alloy, should I go with a 28" wood bat? He is 4ft 5in, 65 lbs.

The MLBM9YBH uses a higher grade maple than the MLBHMYG. Normally we would recommend a 29" bat based on his height and weight. However, wood bats are going to be much heavier so the 28" would be a better length for him.

Do you think this bat would be good for a 10 year old boy because I want to use something besides an aluminum bat?

I think so. This wood bat is a good bat for a younger player and is a good choice for his first wood bat.

About Louisville Slugger
Louisville Slugger

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball.  But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime. Here's a short video promo from Louisville Slugger.

Description for Louisville Slugger Maple Wood Bat: MLBHMYG Youth
This is the Louisville Slugger Youth Maple wood bat. Louisville Slugger uses professional grade, hand-picked Maple to make this bat. The unique grain structure of this wood prevents the barrel from flaking. The Hard Maple is also kiln dried for optimum moisture content. The pro cupped end is ideal for controlling the weight for maximum bat speed and durability. Maple Wood bats are a stronger wood than the standard Northern White Ash models. This bat features a 2 ¼ inch barrel in diameter. This bat is great for practice or games. Many high schools and colleges are now taking batting practice with wood bats and now even the younger kids are doing this too. You can use this bat for practice instead of your high dollar metal bat. Practice with a wood bat has proven to be very beneficial.
