Description

The Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX! Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been on the cutting edge of bat technology. Now, LS brings a new dimension in performance advantage technology to the BBCOR market. The EXOGRID 3 BBCOR model has the Flex-Band Technology. Rather than thickening the walls of bats to bring them in line with BBCOR standards, Louisville Slugger has inserted a very light one inch wide graphite band. Not only does this flex-band give the bat the lowest swing weight available in its BBCOR hybrid class, it is small enough that the sweet spot feels just like high performing BESR bats of the past. Simply put, LS BBCOR bats combine high-tech performance shells with great flex-band technology. This translates to lower M.O.I. (moment of inertia), which means a lighter swing weight and preferred feel. Combining this new exciting feature with the traditional traits that have made the Exogrid name a top selling bat for years, the EXOGRID 3 is one of the most innovative bats to ever hit the market. This bat starts out with Louisville Slugger's AC21 Scandium Alloy which is one of the most durable and responsive alloys on the market. Moving toward the handle you'll find that the metal is trimmed into a grid-like pattern and replaced with carbon composite inserts. These inserts are several times stronger than the metal they replace which gives the EXOGRID 3 not only its name, but also its unwavering durability. Inside the bat, the heart of the EXOGRID 3 can be found in the form of an internal carbon composite sleeve. This provides greater handle stiffness than alloy alone ever could. All of these parts are brought together using Louisville Slugger's EXOGRID Bi/Fusion Process, where a combination of heat and extreme pressure bond everything into a single, solid unit. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The TPX EXOGRID 3: BB13EX is BBCOR certified and legal for high school and collegiate play. It carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Pros: Just received this bat from JustBats (!) and here is my first review since my son (a switch hitter) has not taken it to real-life batting yet: 1. I think Louisville Slugger really did it this time--a terrific bat for both what I call Contact-Power hitter in all aspects! 2. This is a more balanced bat than all the previous Exogrid, including Exo 2. Its balance point is 1/2 inch more to the center (knob) compared to previous Exo, but way better than Easton's S series which, IMO, is too light and the XL series which is a little too heavy for a contact-power hitter like my son. 3. The stiff metal construction throughout the bat is one of my favorite feature that we no longer see in todays real metally sound bats, but this one got it, and sounds terrific comparing to other premium BBCOR! 4. the metal sound is great yet the bat is very balanced with just the right swing weight for a high school Sr. with an athletic built!

Cons: Not yet, but will follow up if any cons comes up.

Pros: The grip is nice.

Cons: Weak bat, ball didn't do anything off this bat in comparison to other bats we have. I expected more from this bat with all the hype. My son is now shopping around for a new one as it's just winter ball now.

Pros: Cool graphics.

Cons: I grew up using Exo bats and I am sad to say that this one does not continue where the other left off. This bat feels heavy to me. The ball is also not jumping like it used to.

Pros: I'm telling you right now that is the best BBCOR bat on the market. The sound of the bat is beautiful. The bat has some serious power behind it. If you are a bigger swinger (homerun hitter) this is the bat for you. I've tested this bat against the S1 and XL1 of Easton and those can not compare. And you can't go wrong with how this bat looks and feels in your hands. You bring this bat in to a big place, you will turn some heads.

Cons: Absolutely none. Worth every penny.

Pros: After doing some research on bats, just to get a little knowledge. I found out that the bat I was swinging (the Easton S1) was made more with a contact hitter in mind. I'm pretty much a contact hitter, however, I also have some insane power in me. After changing bats in my previous game, I saw a huge difference right away. Fouled off a pitch inside just barely to the left of the left field flag. Second up bat hit he ball deep in to left center gap. Great design, feel, and pop. I recommend anyone with a medium body build who has no trouble making contact with the ball.

Cons: No cons

Pros: The bat sounds great, feels great, looks great, and hits great its an expensive bat but worth every penny i spent on it and it hasn't had any durability problems like the some of the EXO GRID 2s had. BUY THIS BAT

Cons: not one with the bat performance, but the price is 300 but i still think its well worth the purchase

Pros: The grip is really good. The balance is also really good. Once it is broken in it has the best pop in a bbcor bat.

Cons: Takes a little bit of time to break in. In my game I hit a solid line drive base hit over the shortstop and the cap came off and it is totally broken and won't go back on.

Pros: My brother used this bat his senior year in college and he told me that his stats have jumped. He is being drafted by the Braves or Rockies. He told me that this is the best bat that he has swung. I am an upcoming freshman and I will for sure be getting this bat!

Pros: This bat has an amazing amount of pop out of the box. First game I used it I hit a double in left center gap and hit 2 more line drives in the 3rd base short stop gap. I am not a power hitter what so ever. I am a 5'3" 105 lb. 13 year old. Best BBCORR bat on the market.

Cons: A kid on my team likes to use it but he always hits the bat on the bottom of his spikes and scratches it. He can't use it anymore.

Pros: First of all, the bat has a sick paint job and the grip is sick. This bat has a huge sweet spot and a lot of pop. This bat is extremely well balanced and is perfect for a contact hitter. I'm a contact hitter and I went 3-4 the first time I used it with a bomb to fence and 2 doubles. GET THIS BAT.

Cons: It stinks when you see a kid on the other team use it.

Pros: This bat is well worth the money! I just thought since it wasn't a composite bat it wasn't going to be good. But it's the best BBCOR bat out there. Pros: I mean, this bat is pretty good. I did slightly crack the lower part of the barrel (on the TPX) by swinging at terrible pitch. I've gotten a hold of a few pitches and drove them pretty well. I do find it harder to make contact with this bat, but I 'll just have to get used to it. Really nice (Dont let teammates use it. If they are as careless as mine, the bat will have cleat dings and scratches from your idiot teammates). Really lave commitment and you can make this bat your friend.

Cons: Keep away from swinging at far inside pitches....it's what slightly cracked mine (my fault).

Pros: It's still early in the training season, but the bat is an overall great product. Low vibration on inside hits; nice swing and "feel" to the bat; great hand grip feel; isn't too top heavy for the smaller players.

Cons: It does NOT have the diameter stamped on the barrel (2 5/8")--thus some umps have already ruled it "illegal" in our major leagues (age 12-14).

Great Bat Baseballman43 player

Pros: I am a player who does not wear batting gloves, so before i pick out my bat i make sure I love the feel of the grip. This grip is the most comfortable grip I have ever had. I am only in 8th grade and I'm 14 years old. So I did not need BBCOR but half way through the season I wanted to challenge myself by getting ready for High School, and now I have been batting cleanup for an 18U showcase team and this bat has been on point. Its the most balanced bat I have ever swung! I'm batting 700. with 3 doubles in my 5 showcase games. When i was playing 14U Major I preferred using my BBCOR EXOGRID 3 rather than my -5. Can't miss with this bat it's the best on the market.

The perfect bat Austin player

Pros: -Seems much lighter than other BBCOR bats. It feels like I'm swinging a -4 or -5 -Very large barrel -Very forgiving when you don't barrel a ball up. Balls hit off the end of the bat don't sting at all and still end up as base hits -Good grip -Balanced -Looks cool -Sounds great -Cheap compared to other high performing BBCOR bats Overall, this bat performs at the same level or better than its $400 alternatives, and at less than half the price it's a great bargain. Don't think twice about ordering it.

Pros: As a senior in college and coming up on my last year of baseball this bat has been my favorite performance based. Great pop, great balance and feel.

Cons: The durability is the weak point. End cap has popped off with 2 of these bats. We bought the newer version and the end cap didn't pop off but the pop wasn't the same.

What would you prefer? The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3, or the 2013 TPX Omaha? btcash3
Both the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 BBCOR and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha BBCOR are good bats. The biggest difference will be the carbon composite inserts in the handle of the TPX Exogrid for a stiffer handle and a higher quality alloy barrel.
Damon
Which bat would you prefer, the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z or the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX baseball bat? boss
It depends on what you are used to and what type of hitter you are. Both bats are great, however; they are very different and are designed for different types of hitters. The Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000 BBCOR: BB12Z is a one piece composite bat while the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX baseball bat is a two piece bat with a composite handle and a alloy barrel.
Jeff
Would you recommend this bat or the S1? I am 5ft 4inch 128lbs. I bat lead off and am a freshman in high school graybird3
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. If you have previously used a one-piece bat with success, I would recommend the Exogrid. If you have previously used a two-piece bat with success, I would recommend the S1.
Tyler
Would you recommend this bat, or the Marucci Black 2 for a contact/power hitter? pj
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR bat is going to be more for a power hitter, because of its one-piece design, and extended sweet spot. The 2013 Marucci Black 2 BBCOR bat is going to be more for a contact hitter, because of its two-piece design and more balanced swing weight.
Noah
I am a small (5-5, 120) contact hitter and loved the old exogrids before bbcor. Would the exogrid 3 bbcor be a good bat for me, or the s1 or the prototype air be a better bat? ryan
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. If you have used an Exogrid in the past with success, then the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX would be the top recommendation for you.
Tyler
I'm 5' 8" 140lbs. Should I stick with the EXO I got last year or get a different bat? This new one? If so, why? J
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat will be a Two-Piece model. It will come with the new AC21 Scandium Alloy barrel and LS-2X Composite material handle. This bat will have a lighter MOI (Moment of Inertia) than last years model. This bat will feature the lowest MOI in the industry. That means you'll see the best available bat speed offered in a bat.
Brandon
What would you say the batter will notice in the switch from Exogrid 2 to the Exogrid 3? rj
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult will have a lighter swing weight than the Exogrid 2.
Zach
I'm 5'7 200 and I like the way this bat looks, would this be a good fit for me? Lil Reg
You would love the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat. You should be swinging the 33" 30oz. or a 34" 31oz. This bat will have the lightest swing speed on the market. It will be a Two-Piece design. The barrel will be AC21 Scandium Alloy while the handle will be LS-2X Composite material. Also, many players are loving the new grip on the handle this season.
Brandon
I'm 5'8" 130lbs contact hitter but with some power would you recommend this bat or what bat fits me the best, price isn't an issue? Ricky
That all depends on what you have previously used. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler
If the 2013 Exo and 2013 Omaha both advertise the lowest MOI on the market, what is the incentive to buy the Exo over the Omaha? Is there a difference between the feel, flex, or barrel size? Is there a reason behind the $100 price difference other than product labeling for the Exo? I am choosing between the two. Jack
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat will be a Two-Piece design. The Barrel will be Alloy, while the Handle will have Composite Inserts. This Two-Piece bat will provide the player with better bat speed and less vibration that may reach the hands on a One-Piece model. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Balanced BBCOR: BB136 Adult bat will be a One-Piece design made of all Alloy. This will be the most Balanced bat between the two. The hitter will feel the difference in each bat when swinging through the zone. Neither bat will require a break-in period. Both bats will have a 12 month warranty through Louisville Slugger.
Brandon
I played Little League last year as a 12 year old. I used an Easton Omen XL 31" 21oz. bat and was the leading hitter on the All Star team. This year I move up to 60-90's and can swing a big barrel. I am 5'4" and weigh 105 lbs. I work out and am very fit for my size. I play Catcher as my position and have solid core. I am a contact hitter. With this info would the 2013 Louisville Slugger EXOgrid 3 be a good bat for me? What size would you recommend? Yankees123
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult model may be too heavy for you at 13. Using the Bat Coach Feature on justbats.com I was able to determine that at your age and size you should be swinging a 31" bat. There is a transitional size bat that comes in a Senior League -5. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League. This would be an easier jump from your previous bat and work for you until you have to use the BBCOR in High School.
Brandon
What is the difference between an Easton Omen XL, last year's model, vs an Exo 3, this years model? Yankees123
The 2012 Easton Omen XL was a Two-Piece Composite bat. It would have needed a period of break-in and would have had a slight barrel heavy feel. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat is a Two-Piece design. It will have a Composite handle and an Alloy barrel. This bat will have a very balanced feel in swing weight. It will have the lowest MOI in its Hybrid category. Both bats should do a good job of limiting vibration that may travel to the hitter's hands. Both bats will have a Full 12 Month Warranty through their manufacturers.
Brandon
Is this bat a composite BBCOR or is it aluminum? emailbackat@alinenbrink123@aol.com
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult will be a Two-Piece Hybrid bat. The barrel will be AC21 Scandium Alloy. The handle is made with LS-2X composite inserts. This bat will not require a period of break-in. It will have the lowest MOI, swing weight, in its class.
Brandon
What do you think is better, the Easton XL series or the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 bat? baseball player1402
The Easton XL bats are designed for power hitters with a slightly end loaded feel while the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 is a more balanced bat designed to create a lighter swing weight. Which bat is better is determined by the style and preference of the hitter. Both bats will have great performance for what they are designed for.
Jeff
Is 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat or the 2013 RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR AIR: B1303A Adult bat better for me? im 5'8" 140 pounds and a pure contact hitter. nrs37
Both of these bats are designed for a lighter swing weight that translates into a faster swing speed which is most coveted by pure contact hitters like yourself. The TPX EXOGRID 3 is a half and half bat that will have more flex and the Prototype Air is a one piece that will be better suited for those that have a faster swing speed.
Jeff
This bat comes in 29 inch 26oz and 31 inch 28 oz. I'm looking for a 30 inch 27 oz bat and was wondering why this bat does not come in that size? Baseball123
We have live inventory on our website and we only show the sizes that are in stock and ready to ship. If you do not see a size listed, that means it is currently out of stock. We should be getting more 30" 27 oz. models in stock in approximately 2-3 weeks.
Tyler
I've read problems with the rings inserted in the EXOGRID last year coming loose. Has this problem been solved with the new flex band technology? SCanes7
The 2013 Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 will be more durable than last years EXOGRID 2, but it does use the same composite and alloy on the bat so it will not perform any higher.
Noah
Will this Exo 3 BBCOR be more or less balanced then the 2013 Omaha balanced BBCOR? a2000
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX will not be quite as evenly balanced as the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Balanced BBCOR: BB136. However, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX will still be a balanced bat.
Tyler
Is this bat going to have the same pop as the Omaha Balanced? And what is so better about this bat compared to the Omaha Balanced? Which would be better for a contact type hitter? Aaronader
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult uses a higher grade alloy than the Omaha Balanced. It also has LS-2X composite inserts in the handle for more flex and less vibration. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult would be better suited for a contact hitter.
Kara
For a 5'10 142lb contact hitter with occasional power, would this bat be a better bat or would the new Rawlings 5150 be a better choice? Which will be more balanced? Which will last longer? Which has better overall performance? OutfieldSwagger23
The 2013 Rawlings 5150 is going to be more balanced than the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3. The durability of both bats are going to be very similar, and there will be no noticeable difference in the performance.
Noah
Are there any other colors coming out? justin
To my knowledge there will not be any color variants of the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX.
Kevin
Are there any specifications on the bat - like temperature or type of baseballs to be used? Charlie
Generally, we do not recommend using the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult or any other bat in temperatures 55 degrees and below. You should only use real, game ready baseballs when taking batting practice.
Marcus
Does this bat have really good pop? Can you get the barrel around quickly? gman
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult has excellent pop and a lower M.O.I. for fast swing speed.
Kevin
Is this bat end loaded? I am a pretty small freshman, and I'm considering, the Omaha balanced, or the Easton Xl3. Tanner
All the bats you are interested in are balanced. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR is not end loaded at all. The TPX EXOGRID is more like the Easton S2 which would be another option.
Chad M.
Is this bat good for contact hitters? LilEli
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult is a great bat for contact hitters given it's low M.O.I. - which leads to increased swing speed.
Marcus
I'm 13 and in high school. We have to have -3 BBCOR bats. I also play rec. ball, would this be OK for both? Marshall8080
Yes, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat is BBCOR Certified. It is legal for high school use, no matter if it's school ball or rec. ball.

Frank
Will this bat lose its pop overtime? Power
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX maintains performance well over time. However, over a long enough span of time, all bats will lose pop.
Tyler
What bat has more pop, the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 BBCOR or the 2013 RIP-IT Prototype Air BBCOR? Dave
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult and the 2013 RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR AIR: B1303A Adult are both very good bats with great pop. The 2013 RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR AIR: B1303A Adult will be a little more balanced than the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX.
Kara
Why do power hitters usually prefer one-piece bats? Patrick
One-piece bats, like the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult, are more efficient at transmitting the power from the hitter to the ball.
Kevin

The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult and 2013 DeMarini CF5 will be very similar in balance. The two-piece design the CF5 has will allow the bat to flex more, which can help increase bat speed.

Based on your height and weight, I would recommend a 33" adult model. Both the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat and the 2013 Omaha feature great balanced and light swing weights, well suited for a contact hitter.
Aubrey
I'm about 6' 3" and 195 pounds. What size bat should I get? THEprodigy

Damon
I swung at a really bad inside pitch and hit the ball with this bat. I noticed after that that there were slight cracks about an inch long on both sides of the bat, about on the TPX logo. Do you think i should keep using it and have better caution or stop using it and send it back to LS? ( I still have the warranty good on it). BaseballFan12
We recommend sending your 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult back to Louisville Slugger for a warranty replacement. The crack is a defect and can cause the bat to break.
Kara
Which bat would you recommend to a power hitter that wants a lot of power and pop in the bat? Would you choose a 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR or a 2013 DeMarini Voodoo paradox? foster3
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult bat is balanced and more well suited for a contact hitter. The Louisville Slugger Voodoo features a more end loaded swing weight more suited for a power hitter.
Aubrey
I'm looking for a bat that is slightly end loaded. Is this bat a good bat? Please recommend a few others. J man
Yes. The Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid is a good, slightly end loaded bat. I would also look at the DeMarini Voodoo and the Easton XL Series.
Damon
Would this be more of a power bat or more for a contact hitter? pigpen
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult has a nice balanced feel, which is generally preferred by contact hitters, but it also has a stiff one-piece feel, which is usually preferred by power hitters.
Noah
I'm 5' 7", 135 pounds, and a 13 year old. Would the EXOGRID 2, EXOGRID 3, or the TPX Omaha 2013 balanced a better bat for a power hitter. publix 9
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 2, EXOGRID 3, and Omaha are all very balanced bats, which is usually better for a contact hitter, but with the stiff one-piece design in all three bats each model will work great for a power hitter.
Noah
I am 5'9 and 200 lb's what bat would be best for me? mike knick
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: BB13EX Adult would be a great choice for you. It is a very high performing bat with great pop. Based on your height and weight we recommend a 33" 30 o z. bat.

When will 33's be in stock? 33inchbatswinger
The 2013 Louisville Slugger Exogrid 3 has been discontinued by Louisville Slugger. Louisville Slugger will be releasing the "Raid" later this year that will replace the Exogrid 3. The Louisville Slugger Raid will be a two-piece hybrid design. It will feature Louisville's AC21 alloy just like the Exogrid 3 but will also feature a Pure 360 Composite handle.

How does this bat compare to the 2013 DeMarini Cf5? Lb
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult and the DeMarini CF5 are both two-piece balanced bats. The EXOGRID is a two-piece hybrid design with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The CF5 is a two-piece fully composite design.
Jason
Two questions: How does this bat compare to the 5150 Velo? I am 5'11" and 160 lbs., which size would be ideal for me? Ry
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) will have carbon inserts in the handle with an alloy barrel. This provides a lower M.O.I. which allows for lighter swing weight. The Rawlings 5150 VELO (BBV3) will also have carbon inserts in the handle, but it will also have composite material at the end of the barrel to increase the balance of the bat.
Kelby
How much pop does this bat have compared to the bats in the Easton XL-Series? hammer time
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX Adult) bat will have very good pop compared to the Easton XL-Series line of bats. The EXOGRID 3 will be more balanced and easier to swing compared to the XL-Series also. The XL-Series will have an end loaded barrel heavy feel to the swing weight that power hitter's tend to love.
Brandon
Should we chose this bat or Easton S1, S2, S3 for first year of middle school ball requiring use of BBCOR -3. He is just shy of 5ft and a little over 80lbs. Best length and weight would also be appreciated. Was using -10 2 5/8 and is contact hitter. future aggie
I would go with the Easton S1 personally. The two piece full composite bats seem to last longer in the long run. I would suggest a 29 inch bat.
Jackson
I just ordered the exo grid 3 and it's a 32 in 29 ounce my dad told me not to use it in the cold but I told him it should be ok in the cold because it's not composite at least NLT to my knowledge it's not... We'll my question is, is this bat ok to use in cold weather like 35-50 degrees or should I wait for it to get warmer and if so what temp should I be ok to use it in??? H0RNET99
We do not recommend using any bats, including the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR, in temperatures below 60°F (16°C).
Bobby P
i bought the Easton S3 for my son. It is all aluminum. Is this bat considered a two-piece composite bat? How does it compare to the S3? You also say this is a sale price. What is the regular price for a 30" 27 oz.? mark
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) is a one-piece alloy bat with composite inserts in the handle. The composite inserts will provide more flex than the Easton S3. The original price for the 30" 27 oz. was $299.99.
Kara
My son is 4'9" about 93 lbs. What size bat should I get? mimi
In the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX Adult), I would recommend a 29" 26 oz based on your son's height and weight. There are other general factors that help determine the best bat for you, like age and strength.
Justin R.
Is this bat approved for use by USSSA Baseball? Chuck
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX Adult) is certified for play in BBCOR leagues. If your league allows BBCOR you will be able to use this bat.
Brandon
Is this bat USSSA approved? Is it composite? Bengals girl
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) bat features BBCOR certification. This certification will feature a BBCOR stamp rather than the USSSA "thumbprint" stamp. The Exogrid 3 is a hybrid design with an alloy barrel and a handle that features composite inserts around an alloy core. This provides a lightweight feel but keeps a stiffer flex.
Patrick
My son is 5 foot 4. He weighs 105 pounds and is 14 years old. What is the best size for him? He is a contact hitter. Jmac
Based on your son's height and weight, we would suggest a 29 inch length of the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult bat.

Based on your height and weight, a 32" bat would be the recommended length. And if you need a BBCOR certified model like this Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult, the weight of the bat is required to be 29 oz. in that length.
Mac
I'm in a tough decision right now either of getting the EXOGRID 3 or the Rawlings VELO. Which bat would be good for me I'm 5'4" and 130 pounds? matthew baseball
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) and the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR (BBV3) are both very high performing bats. The EXOGRID 2 has composite inserts in the handle that provides more flex. The VELO is a stiffer, bat, but more balanced bat.
Kara
Is there a performance difference between the EXOGRID 3 BBCOR and the 2014 Attack BBCOR? Baseball pop
Any performance difference you see between the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult bat and 2014 Attack BBCOR would be caused by your preference to one design over the other. Both bats feature the same BBCOR performance regulation and have not been proven to outperform the other. The Attack would have a lighter swing weight and help eliminate vibration a bit better with the TRU3 Technology, but the EXOGRID 3 is a solid pick if you like a stiffer flex.
Mac
Is the EXOGRID 3 a high selling bat? Gap hitter
Yes, the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult is a very high selling and popular bat.
Jason
Why is this bat popular? Why do people like it? What makes it out perform other bats? What's special about it? Expo grid
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult bat hasn't been proven to outperform other BBCOR models, but it definitely does receive great feedback on our web site. Customers tend to like the very balanced swing weight and the stiff flex that the bat offers. A stiff flex in a bat transfers energy very efficiently to the ball on contact. And the AC21 Alloy barrel provides hot-out-of-the-wrapper performance. If you haven't already, feel free to check out what other customers have to say about the bat in the Product Review section.
Mac
Is this bat top heavy or balanced? Eggnog
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) is a balanced bat.

Aaron
I am 5'10" and 170 lbs. Would this be a good bat for me even though I am more of a power hitter? MEEE!
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) would still be a good option for you. Typically, power hitters will prefer a one-piece or an end loaded model, but the EXOGRID 3 should not take away from your power.
Kelby

Kara
My son is 13 years old, is 4'10" tall and weighs 85 lbs. What bat should he be using? Odawg
Your son should probably be using a 2 5/8" barrel size, which would be listed as Senior League on our website. There are also some Senior League bats that come in a 2 3/4" barrel diameter, although some leagues do not allow bats with barrels of that size. We would also recommend a 30" bat length for your son, although you could go up or down 1" depending on personal preference.
Kyle J.

Aaron
I am 5'9", 150 lbs, 12 years old. What length/weight bat should I get? Eli

Zach
How would the swing speed and pop of this bat compare to that of the DeMarini CF6? bmaxp523
Since the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) and the DeMarini CF6 have to meet the .50 BPF BBCOR standard, they will be similar in terms of pop. The CF6 features a composite barrel, so technically, it will hold its pop longer than the alloy barrel of the EXOGRID3. With regard to swing speed, they will be very similar since they are both balanced.
Tessa L.
I am 13 years old, 4' 8" and 73 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Josh

Both my son and nephew are becoming power-contact hitters. I got the Velo 31" 28 oz. for my son for Christmas and he loves it. I was looking for more of a sluggers bat as they both get stronger and taller for summer ball. Any recommendations? BaseballDad
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) would be a great option for power and contact. It has a very good balance which is ideal for contact, and a super stiff swing that power hitters love. For more of a power hitters bat only, you may want to take a look at the Easton XL3 BBCOR. The XL3 will have a large sweet spot and an end loaded swing weight.
Justin R.
I am a 5'8" 135 lb. 8th grader. What size bat should I use? Colton
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX).
Jason
Will there be a new EXOGRID made in the future? If not, what bat is closest to it? longballer
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) is a discontinue model, and Louisville Slugger will no longer make any EXOGRIDS. The closest design to the EXOGRID is the new 2014 Louisville Slugger Raid BBCOR (BBRD14-RR).
Jason
I have this bat and I love it, but it has been chipping. Will this harm the bat at all? baberuth player
In terms of performance, the paint chipping will not harm the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: (BB13EX). It will change the cosmetic appearance of the model, however, it will not harm the overall performance.
Merritt
Will a jug ball damage the bat? viking
Yes, jug balls or cage balls will cause damage to the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX). They are a lot more dense than regulation baseballs so they can cause premature damage to the barrel of the bat. Hitting with jug balls can also void the manufacturer warranty.
Tessa L.
I'm more of a power hitter than I am a contact hitter. Would you recommend the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR bat or something else? james snipes
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) would be a fine choice for a contact or a power hitter. It will have a balanced feel to the swing weight. If you like a more barrel heavy, end loaded feel, checkout the Easton XL-Series or DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD.
Brandon
I'm currently in Legion ball. I'm trying to find a good bat that will last me along time. I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs. I'm a power hitter and was wondering what bat you would prefer for me? Thanks. Big Tex
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) would be a great selection. It would feel very balanced to a hitter at your size. Another great option would be the 2014 Rawlings VELO BBCOR or the 2014 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR.
Brandon
What drop is it? hitty
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) features a -3 drop, which is also called the length to weight ratio. All BBCOR bats will have a -3 length to weight ratio.

Zach
How bad does this bat sting? I currently own an Easton S3 2013 and loved it but it stings very badly when you don't hit the sweet spot. I was wondering how this bat compares? Smedium
Similar to the 2013 Easton S3 (BB13S3), the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) is a one-piece alloy bat. One-piece bats will generally have more vibration mishits than two-piece bats, however they provide a stiffer feel during the swing which allows for slightly better energy transfer to the barrel during the swing.
Kyle J.
My son is 5 foot 1 and weighs about 95 pounds. What size of bat does he need? Mark S

No, paint chips will not effect the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) performance. It does have a 12 month warranty through Louisville Slugger in case you need to get it replaced. Here is their direct warranty number: 1-800-282-2287.
Brandon
My son is a 6'3", 175 lb high school junior looking for a new bat. He is more of a contact or gap hitter, rather than a power hitter. Which bat would suit him better, the EXOGRID 3 or the Raid? Azimuth99
I would probably suggest the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: (BB13EX). The two-piece design will allow a little bit more flex, and typically, contact hitters prefer this structure. It will also have very powerful AC21 Alloy in the barrel to help produce some good pop. The composite handle will also help eliminate vibrations, and this model will be very light weight. Overall, I think this model would be an excellent one to take a closer look at.
Merritt
I'm 5`8 175 lbs., what size of bat? kody
Based on your height and weight I would recommend a 32" length in the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 (BB13EX).

Does this bat have a balanced swing weight? If not, what bats are for BBCOR? Rick
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR: (BB13EX) will be balanced. It will also be extremely light weight. If you are looking for another BBCOR balanced bat, the 2014 Easton MAKO BBCOR: (BB14MK) would also be an admirable choice.

Zach
I'm looking at this bat, and the Marucci Black 2014. I'm a gap to gap hitter who likes a balanced bat. What would you recommend? tbear
I would probably recommend the Marucci Black 2 BBCOR: (MCBB20). This model will have an extended barrel providing a bigger sweet spot. It will also have an extremely balanced weight distribution. The two-piece design will also provide a lot of flex, and this will work great for contact gap hitters such as yourself.
Merritt
I'm trying to decide between this bat, and the DeMarini M2M. Do you have any advice? pj
The DeMarini M2M BBCOR: (DXM2C) would be an excellent option to take a closer look at. This model will be a two-piece alloy design, and will definitely be able to give you a lot of great power. It has been highly reviewed, and will also be very high performing. This model was designed to have a longer barrel, therefore, it will have a larger sweet spot as well. The DeMarini M2M BBCOR: (DXM2C) was designed to produce great pop, and will be very balanced as well.

The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) would be a very good model go with. It will be very balanced and have a light swing weight. This would be a great choice to pick as your first BBCOR bat.

The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) and the 2014 Rawlings 5150 VELO BBCOR (BBV3) are both very high performing bats. The EXOGRID 3 has composite inserts in the handle that provides more flex. The VELO is a stiffer, bat, but more balanced bat. Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 30" bat.

I am considering the Exogrid 3 in the -3 size, we are replacing my sons Exogrid -5 now that he's going into high school. He really likes the balanced feel of the Exogrid, how does the Louisville Slugger Raid and the Attack compare in balance since the Raid is a two piece and the Attack is composite? We bought him an Easton two piece, but it seems really end loaded and he doesn't really hit as we'll with it. Any suggestions, he is 6' and about 200 lbs. JBC
The Louisiville Slugger Raid and Attack will be similar in balance to the Exogrid. If he was swinging an Easton XL1 two-piece it would be end loaded. The Easton S1 two-piece would be more balanced.
Damon

I'm 5'3 105 lbs. and I am a contact hitter. Right now, I use a 31 28 Mako. I can't decide to get a Exo Grid 3 or a Voodoo Paradox. Which bat would be best for me and what size is best. Brody
I would recommend going with the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) because it has a balanced design. The Voodoo Paradox will have more of an end loaded swing weight which is preferred by power hitters.
John
Is there a lot of vibration? Big Stick
Because this Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) is technically a one-piece bat, you can experience vibration if you don't square the ball up on the barrel. But the composite inserts in the handle do help a bit to dissipate that vibration and prevent some of it from reaching the player's hands.
Mac
I'm 5'2 and weigh 100 pounds, I'm a contact hitter, what bat should I get? Wild Thing

Jason
I am 5 foot 5 and weigh 101 pounds. I was wondering if I should choose the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR or the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR? DE BASEBALL
Both the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) and the 2014 Easton S1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB14S1) would be good options. The preference would be decided based on which style of bat you prefer. The S1 is a two-piece composite design that will flex more and have more of a thud or a crack sound to it. The EXOGRID is a hybrid design that is mostly alloy with composite inserts in the handle that allow for a little bit of flex. The EXOGRID will have more of a ping sound when hit.
Patrick
What's the new version of this bat? Triple crownz
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 (BB13EX) was replaced by the 2014 Louisville Slugger Raid (BBRD14-RR2015). Then the Raid was replaced by the Louisville Slugger Select 715 (BBS7153). All three models are constructed with Louisville Slugger's AC21 alloy barrel. The Raid and the 715 are hybrid designs while the EXOGRID 3 is a one-piece alloy design with composite inserts in the handle.

The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) or the 2014 Louisville Slugger Raid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBRD14-RR) would be two of the top rated bats that would be more for a contact style hitter in the Louisville slugger lineup.
Patrick
What has a lighter swing weight, the Exogrid 3 or the Rip It Prototype? joeshmoe
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) would be more balanced and, thus, lighter to swing than the 2014 RIP-IT Prototype BBCOR Baseball Bat (B1403) which is end-loaded.
Patrick
I am a power hitter that likes balanced bats. I also like the feel of composite and half and half bats. What is the best bat for me? batboy
Based on your preferences, I would highly suggest the 2015 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat: (DXVXC). This two-piece, balanced, hybrid design fits all of the characteristics that you are looking for. It is brand new from DeMarini, and is estimated to be a top seller. We do not have any reviews at this time, however, the 2014 model was extremely popular.

Both the Easton S2 and the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) would be great for you. Both will hit and feel very much the same. Also, the durability and performance will be very much the same. Either bat would make a great choice!
Brandon
I'm 6' 235lb 9th grader. I already own an Exogrid 3 and an Easton S3. (Both 34in and -3), I was wondering which one would be better for me to use this upcoming season. Chris
It is ultimately up you if you decide to go with the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) or the Easton S3. It is good to know that the two bats do differ in their construction. The S3 is an alloy completely throughout and while EXOGRID 3 has alloy in the barrel and handle, it does have a few unique characteristics. Composite has been inserted in a grid pattern right below the barrel. These inserts provide enhanced durability for the bat. Also, composite sleeves have also been put into the handle to give a stiffness not usually allowed by regular alloy handles. All these innovations have also been complimented with flexband technology to give the entire bat a low swing weight.
Ben
What type of wood is this bat? Rock Maple, Sugar Maple? Smilie1
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) will not be constructed from wood. Instead it will be constructed from AC21 Scandium Alloy.
Ben
What's the difference between the college EXOGRID and the EXOGRID 3 BBCOR? dboi
The Louisville Slugger College EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EXC) features a limited edition colorway that is a brighter red and a white grip compared to the grey grip on the (BB13EX). Both models are essentially the same and are made from the same materials.
Tessa
What are the differences between the 2013 Louisville Slugger Attack BBCOR and the Exogrid 3 BBCOR? Which one would you recommend? miggy
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) has a one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight. The design is great for a contact hitter or a power hitter because of the stiff design. The Attack is a two-piece fully composite bat with an extremely balanced swing weight. It is typically a great option for a contact hitter. The two-piece design provides more flex and works well to complement a contact hitter. It really depends on what type of hitter you are to determine which option is best for you. They are both equally good bats.
Jason
Does the EXOGRID 3 BBCOR have more pop than the 2013 Attack BBCOR? miggy
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) will be a hybrid bat featuring an AC21 Scandium Alloy barrel as well as LS-2X Composite inserts in the handle. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Attack BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13A) will feature a two-piece full-composite design with the LS-2X composite. Both bats will fall under the BBCOR certification which regulates the performance of the bats. These bats will both perform in similar ranges, however, the EXOGRID 3 will have more initial pop due to the break-in period required by the BB13A.
Joe
I am a 5'11", 130 pound freshman in high school with average strength. I know I want the EXOGRID 3 bat, but I cannot decide between the 32 inch or 33 inch bat. Which length would suit me better? Blake

The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) is a balanced bat.

Both bats are considered to be balanced bats, but the BB13EX has the flex band technology incorporated to give it a lighter swing weight.

Which bat is better this bat or the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB126)? I consider myself more of a power hitter. Daniel M
The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3 BBCOR (BB13EX) Adult bat will be a Two-Piece design. The Barrel will be Alloy, while the Handle will have Composite Inserts. This Two-Piece bat will provide the player with better bat speed and less vibration that may reach the hands on a One-Piece model. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Balanced BBCOR (BB136) Adult bat will be a One-Piece design made of all Alloy. This will be the most Balanced bat between the two. The hitter will feel the difference in each bat when swinging through the zone.
Tom
I am a 6'6" and 215 pounds. I know I want the EXOGRID 3 bat, but I cannot decide between the 33 inch or 34 inch bat. Which length would be better? And i cannot decide between exogrid3,attack, voodoo overlord, mako Which one would you recommend? js
We would recommend a 34" for a player with your build. The EXOGRID 3 is a great option for power hitters. It has a one-piece design with a very nice sweet spot. The MAKO and the Attack are going to be a two-piece composite design with a balanced swing weight which is more preferred by contact hitters. The Voodoo is a two-piece design with a slight end load. It has an extended barrel which a great option for a power hitter. I would recommend going with the Exogrid 3 or the Voodoo. It would come down to player preference of one-piece vs. two-piece.
John
Is this bat a drop 3? Moody
Yes, the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) is a drop 3 (-3).
Frankie
I want something that is a balanced bat and has great pop. I'm mostly a contact hitter, but I have decent power. I'm looking at this bat and the Rawlings 5150, which would better suite me ? andy16
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) is a one piece balanced bat with AC21 Scandium Alloy and LS-2X Composite inserts in the handle. The composite inserts will provide more flex and reduce the vibration. The 2015 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB5150) will be a one piece alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. The 5150 will have a lower M.O.I., but the EXOGRID 3 will reduce the vibration a little better.

The Louisvile Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) is going to be very similar in design to the Easton Hammer. They both will be a one-piece all alloy design with a balanced swing weight. The EXOGRID 3 will be a higher performing model compared to the Hammer. We have had great feedback on it so I would recommend the EXOGRID 3.
John

The performance or "pop" on all three should be very similar given the BBCOR restriction on all the bats.
Patrick

Is this bat still legal for NCAA play? It has been a few years since this was released. Is there another EXOGRID or was it discontinued? bigcon3
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB13EX is legal for NCAA use. This bat has been discontinued and at this time Louisville Slugger does not have plans to continue production of this bat.
Cameron
Why did they stop production of this bat? Alex
Unfortunately, we are not provided with the exact reason why bats are discontinued. That would be a better question to ask Louisville Slugger. However, the EXOGRID was a bat Louisville Slugger made for a few years. Typically manufacturers will change their bats up every few years when the ability to really improve the design and make a better bat comes along.
Jason
I've been using this bat for years now and I love everything about it. I'm looking for a new bat. What current bat from Slugger would be the closest to this? randy
To get the most current model from Louisville Slugger that relates most closely to this Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX), I would recommend the Omaha 516 model (the biggest difference will be that the Omaha 516 won't have the composite inserts in the handle).
Ben
Is this bat balanced or end loaded? HarrisonMetz
The Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) is balanced.
Jake
Does the EXOGRID 3 show more performance than the Prime 916 & 2014 Attack? WAYNE
This Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) was an excellently rated bat. However, in regard to performance, all 3 bats were rated pretty well. I would have to say that the Prime 916 has shown lower durability than this EXOGRID 3 and the 2014 Attack. Because of that, I would consider choosing between the EXOGRID 3 and the 2014 Attack (if it is still available for purchase at a location). When deciding between the EXOGRID 3 and the Attack, you will need to decide if you want the all-alloy build (with composite inserts) that is featured on the EXOGRID 3 or the two-piece, all-composite design of the Attack.
Ben

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
