Both the Louisville Slugger TPX Exogrid 3 BBCOR and the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha BBCOR are good bats. The biggest difference will be the carbon composite inserts in the handle of the TPX Exogrid for a stiffer handle and a higher quality alloy barrel.

If you have previously used a two-piece bat with success, I would recommend the S1.

Using the Bat Coach Feature on justbats.com I was able to determine that at your age and size you should be swinging a 31" bat. There is a transitional size bat that comes in a Senior League -5. The 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX EXOGRID 3: SL13EX5 Senior League. This would be an easier jump from your previous bat and work for you until you have to use the BBCOR in High School.

Both of these bats are designed for a lighter swing weight that translates into a faster swing speed which is most coveted by pure contact hitters like yourself. The TPX EXOGRID 3 is a half and half bat that will have more flex and the Prototype Air is a one piece that will be better suited for those that have a faster swing speed.

I would probably recommend the Marucci Black 2 BBCOR: (MCBB20). This model will have an extended barrel providing a bigger sweet spot. It will also have an extremely balanced weight distribution. The two-piece design will also provide a lot of flex, and this will work great for contact gap hitters such as yourself.

The DeMarini M2M BBCOR: (DXM2C) would be an excellent option to take a closer look at. This model will be a two-piece alloy design, and will definitely be able to give you a lot of great power. The preference would be decided based on which style of bat you prefer. The S1 is a two-piece composite design that will flex more and have more of a thud or a crack sound to it. The EXOGRID is a hybrid design that is mostly alloy with composite inserts in the handle that allow for a little bit of flex. The EXOGRID will have more of a ping sound when hit.

It is ultimately up you if you decide to go with the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) or the Easton S3. It is good to know that the two bats do differ in their construction. The S3 is an alloy completely throughout and while EXOGRID 3 has alloy in the barrel and handle, it does have a few unique characteristics. Composite has been inserted in a grid pattern right below the barrel. These inserts provide enhanced durability for the bat. Also, composite sleeves have also been put into the handle to give a stiffness not usually allowed by regular alloy handles. All these innovations have also been complimented with flexband technology to give the entire bat a low swing weight.

The MAKO and the Attack are going to be a two-piece composite design with a balanced swing weight which is more preferred by contact hitters. The Voodoo is a two-piece design with a slight end load. It has an extended barrel which a great option for a power hitter. I would recommend going with the Exogrid 3 or the Voodoo. It would come down to player preference of one-piece vs. two-piece.

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Omaha 515 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLO5150) will come in a 31 inch 21 oz model and 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Currently, we do not have any big barrel bats that will come in a 31 inch 24 oz model. As for the Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) this bat would be used by high school and college players and it is an older bat that has been replaced in the Louisville Slugger line.

Unfortunately, we are not provided with the exact reason why bats are discontinued. That would be a better question to ask Louisville Slugger. However, the EXOGRID was a bat Louisville Slugger made for a few years. Typically manufacturers will change their bats up every few years when the ability to really improve the design and make a better bat comes along.

To get the most current model from Louisville Slugger that relates most closely to this Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX), I would recommend the Omaha 516 model (the biggest difference will be that the Omaha 516 won't have the composite inserts in the handle).

This Louisville Slugger EXOGRID 3 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB13EX) was an excellently rated bat. However, in regard to performance, all 3 bats were rated pretty well. I would have to say that the Prime 916 has shown lower durability than this EXOGRID 3 and the 2014 Attack. Because of that, I would consider choosing between the EXOGRID 3 and the 2014 Attack (if it is still available for purchase at a location). When deciding between the EXOGRID 3 and the Attack, you will need to decide if you want the all-alloy build (with composite inserts) that is featured on the EXOGRID 3 or the two-piece, all-composite design of the Attack.

About the Brand
In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
