assault -5 Coach coach

Pros: Great swing weight and durable. Good grips.

Cons: Very stiff bat; loud and medium pop. small sweet spot if you are accustom to swinging S3's or XL3's which are much hotter.

Good Bat! Trey24 player

Pros: The bat has a great sound to it and the pop is phenominal! The sweet spot is average but the swing is incredibly balanced and feels great, also very durable. Good for power, contact, and everything in between hitters!

Cons: It is easy to get jammed if you are not used to the weight or length. It also vibrates off the handle like most one-pieces but if you know how to get through the inside pitch this bat is for you.

Louisville Assault -5 Jake parent

Pros: Bought it for an 11 yr old (30/25). He likes it, so far. The -10 seem to be too lite for him, as well as his 29/ -8.5 Rawlings 51/50 exo grid. This is probably just the right size for him. Good balance to it, appearance is nice ( not that it impacts performance). Too new for durability ratings...

Cons: Jury still out on the pop...early indications would tell me it doesn't have as much pop as his old Rawlings. Has hit some decent shots, but they don't seem to jump off the bat.

My 14 year old son needs a -5 bat with a low swing weight. He used the Omaha last year, but it has been discontinued. How does the new Assault compare to the Omaha and what other bats should he consider (Vexxum)? We are looking at alloy or hybrid bats. Burnsie
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault: SLAS14-R5 Senior League is just like the Omaha and will be a balanced model with low swing weight. The Vexxum may be just a bit more balanced, but will be comparable.
Tori
Is there any difference between the Assault -5 and the 2013 Omaha -5 other than appearance? Are they the same in terms of balance? Buckeye
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault: SLAS14-R5 Senior League is made from the same ST+20 Alloy as the 2013 Omaha. It will offer the same, very balanced swing weight that the Omaha offers. Louisville Slugger has renamed the Omaha as the Assault to fit in with the other bats in their product line (ie Attack and Raid).
Mac
Is this bat or the -5 XL1 better? jj
The 2014 Louisville Slugger Assault: SLAS14-R5 Senior League is going to be light weight and balanced. We would recommend it for a contact hitter. The Easton XL1 is going to be end loaded and better suited for a power hitter.
Tori

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
