It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, I would absolutely recommend sticking with the Easton S2.

If you are having success with the S2 you could move into the XL2, however; if you are having success with the S2 you may want to stick with it as long as it is working for you.

My 7 year old/coach pitch is using a 2 3/4" s1 25/13. Would the 28/15 be too much of a jump? Also how would 2 1/4 compare to using the 2 3/4? matt
That all depends on his swing speed and bat control with the 25" 13 oz. bat he is currently using. If he has good swing speed and good bat control, then he shouldn't have a problem moving up to a 15 oz. bat. After all, it is completely common and recommended to move up 1-3 oz. with every new bat. A 2 3/4" bat will offer more surface area for contact and a larger sweetspot.

The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is a great option for him. It is very balanced and has great pop. We would not recommend the Easton XL because of the end loaded feel.

All three bats are balanced. The Easton S1 is a two-piece composite, whereas the Easton S2 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The composite barrel on the S1, after broken in will get hotter out of the wrapper than the S2. The Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy bat so will not have the flex of the S1 or S2. The highest performing of the three for a contact hitter is the Easton S1.

A -13 Youth bat is going to be very, very small for a 13 year old player. If he uses it, don't expect it to last very long as it is better suited for younger players. If he needs to use a youth small barrel bat, I would recommend something in a -10 length to weight ratio.

That's hard for us to say without being able to actually see and analyze your son's swing with that size bat. He should be just fine choking up a bit, but I would recommend finding a similar size bat locally and have him take some dry swings with it to get an idea of how it feels.

We suggest a 31" bat for your son. I really think he should swinging a -10 or if he is stronger a -8. When he is 13, he will most likely have to go up to a -5. So I would be getting him ready for that.

The YB11S2 is the previous years bat, and is being sold at a discount to move them out of inventory. There were no major changes to the overall construction of the bat. Only change would be the paint scheme.

A 30" is also going to work fine for him. If he feels like a 30" 2013 Easton S2 is the way to go it really probably is.

I Purchased this bat and after a few hits it appears to have a plastic coating on the barrel it is shedding. We removed the wrapper, starting with a small break in the plastic and then coming off from there. Is this a defect or is the coating supposed to come off? PD
All of our bats come with a plastic wrapper on it. If you have already removed that then it could be a defect but it would be the color of the bat.

The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 is well balanced and would be recommended for hitters with average to below average strength and swing speed. The 2013 Easton XL2: YB13X2 is endloaded making it a better option for hitters with above average strength and swing speed. If a player is in between sizes according to charts, and you are not sure what size to get based on his previous size bats, it would be recommended to go with the larger size so the player can grow in to it if needed.

We do not recommend using the Easton S2 (YB13S2) Youth with the yellow rubber cage balls. Both Alloy and Composite bats are designed specifically for hitting baseballs. The yellow cage balls are heavier than baseballs and will shorten the life span of your bat.

Both models will be approved for Little League play. Little League has a "Approved Composite Bat List" which the S1 will be on. The reason why you are not seeing the S2 on the list because it features an alloy barrel.

Easton can test your Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S2) to see if it is damaged through their warranty process. You would need your receipt and to call 888-259-1297 to get the warranty process started. Other than that, if there are know clearly visible damages to the bat, a severe drop off in performance may indicate that the bat is damaged.

The Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S2) would be a nice model for your player. The hybrid design combines hot out of the wrapper performance of an alloy barrel with the sting and vibration protection of a composite handle. Based on height and weight, we would suggest a 30 inch size of the S2. This model year is not available in that size but the 2015 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S2) is the newer model available that would come in that size.
