Description

The next generation of Power Brigade has arrived. Now in its second season, this groundbreaking line of bats is unlike anything else on the field today. The concept is simple: Help players hit for power. However, Easton realizes that different players achieve a powerful swing in different ways. That's why the Power Brigade is divided into two distinct series - the XL Series (XL1, XL2, and XL3) and the Speed Series (S1, S2, and S3). The XL Series is designed for bigger, stronger hitters who derive their power from a bat with more mass. Smaller length to weight ratios, and an extra-long barrel with a massive sweet spot and a slight end load characterize the XL Series. The Speed Series, on the other hand, helps players increase their swing speed in order to generate more power. These bats feature lighter length to weight ratios, a lower M.O.I., and a balanced feel. Further trying to equip players with their perfect bat, Easton offers all of its Power Brigade bats in a two-piece IMX Composite/SIC Black Carbon design (XL1, S1), a two-piece IMX Composite/THT100 Scandium Alloy hybrid design (XL2, S2), and a one-piece THT Scandium Alloy design (XL3, S3). Two of the highest performing materials ever used on a bat, Easton's patented IMX Composite optimizes the sweet spot for maximum performance, while their THT Scandium Alloy provides solid durability and allows for a larger alloy sweet spot than is seen anywhere else on the field. Throw in an array of additional world-class Easton technology, and you've got a line of bats that can't be topped. Easton: Personalize Your Power! The S2 is approved for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and features the new USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp. It is backed by Easton's Exclusive 400 Day Manufacturer's Warranty. sfbball

Pros: This is the first time i have hit with any two-piece bat ( i am 12 4 foot 11 1/2 and 90 pounds). I had been using a 30/18 demarini vx2 (2012) but outgrew it and wanted to try the new and special Power Brigade. after much debate and considering the voodoo, vexxum, xl2, s1, convert, reflex, and s3, we decided on the s2. Although i am still getting used to hitting with a 31" bat it is very easy to get around and perfect for a 2 strike contact hitter. i feel no vibration when i hit and have hit some rockets to the gaps. Takes no time to break-in and is great for any batter in the line-up. I hope this bat lasts forever because it is AWESOME!!!!!

Cons: It no longer feels the same to hit with a one-piece bat and the barrel is shorter than the s1. the composite handle is way too long in my opinion. You need a practice bat for the batting cages because the rubber dimpled balls make your bat dent, scratch, smear, and overall shorten your bats durablility. The pros out number the cons??

Pros: Myself and another coach bought a pair of these bats. Good pop but didn't last long.

Cons: His broke clean at the handle after our 3rd BP session and my sons developed a rattle in the barrel soon after that. Easton did us right on both cases and replaced the bats. The replacement bats have been great so far.

Best bat I've ever owned The slugger 24 player

Pros: This bat has a ton off pop and nice balanced weight to it! I play on a 12 u team that travels a lot and I am 5"6 and 130 pounds and it is a better bat for me then the xl series. I had a tournament and went 11/12 with this bat and had more doubles than singles. I hit a 280 foot boom and a 305 foot boom in the same game with this bat. Overall this bat shouldn't disappoint you and will stay in good condition for a really long time

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat: YB13S2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Whats the difference in the composite from last year? o
The handle on the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 is made with a new SIC composite that will have the same performance as last year but will offer better protection against vibration and sting.
Tyler
I am currently 10 and am using a -13 30/17 easton pb s2 and am having great success with it, what would you recommend for next? yommamacookudinna
It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate. Thus, I would absolutely recommend sticking with the Easton S2.
Tyler
would you recommend the XL2 for a successful S2 user? hhjnfcnnhfjjr
If you are having success with the S2 you could move into the XL2, however; if you are having success with the S2 you may want to stick with it as long as it is working for you.
Jeff
My son is 11 and currently using a 30 inch 17 oz bat. I am looking to get him a new bat for next season. He is 5"3' and weighs 140lbs. I am looking at the Easton S2. Would the 31 - 18 oz bat be a good fit for him? His bat speed is a little above average. Steve
Based on his height and weight, the 31" 18 oz. is the correct size in the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth. This bat has a very balanced swing weight and would be a good option for him.
Aubrey
My son is 9 yrs old and used the Easton Surge 30" 17 oz bat for kid pitch fall ball. He is approximately 53 inches tall and weighs 77 pounds. He has an average bat speed so, would the 30" 17 oz S2 be a good bat for next spring? Ben
Yes, the 30" Easton S2 would be a great fit for your son. If he grows and becomes stronger between now and the spring, you could consider using a 30" 18 oz. bat.
Tom
Do you think the S1 or S2 is better for my son he just turned 11 and is around 4-11 and weighs 100 pounds and is just starting to hit Marcus
That all depends on what he has used previously. It's always recommend that a player stick with the same type of bat they have used in the past with the most success. In doing so, the player is much, much more likely to have continued success at the plate.
Tyler
My 7 year old/coach pitch is using a 2 3/4" s1 25/13. Would the 28/15 be too much of a jump? Also how would 2 1/4 compare to using the 2 3/4? matt
That all depends on his swing speed and bat control with the 25" 13 oz. bat he is currently using. If he has good swing speed and good bat control, then he shouldn't have a problem moving up to a 15 oz. bat. After all, it is completely common and recommended to move up 1-3 oz. with every new bat. A 2 3/4" bat will offer more surface area for contact and a larger sweetspot.
Tyler
My son is almost 9 but 90 pounds. Used a -13 right now with the Voodoo (Black). Would this be a good option for him or perhaps XL? May be too heavy for him on the XL? Voodoo has alot of pop. Worried this does not. Sean
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is a great option for him. It is very balanced and has great pop. We would not recommend the Easton XL because of the end loaded feel.
Kara
My 11 year old son is 4'7 and 63 lbs. He is a contact hitter with quick hands. He doesn't know if he should get the S1 or S2 and if he should get the recommended 29" or get the 30" so he won't grow out of it for next season. What would you suggest? Diane
That all depends on the length and weight of his current bat, his swing speed and bat control with that bat, and what bat he has used previously with the most success. You are more than welcome to contact us at 1-866-321-2287 or support@justbats.com.
Tyler
I have a 10 year old that hits line drives. What is the difference in performance between the Easton S1 and S2? Should I consider the S3? Alan
All three bats are balanced. The Easton S1 is a two-piece composite, whereas the Easton S2 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The composite barrel on the S1, after broken in will get hotter out of the wrapper than the S2. The Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy bat so will not have the flex of the S1 or S2. The highest performing of the three for a contact hitter is the Easton S1.
Damon
I have a 13 year old 180lb son that likes the Easton S2 due to the way it feels when hitting. at demo day he used -3 like this but doesn't need the bb core until next year for high school rules. this is -13 what is the difference on that and how it will hit for him? is it weight? #1 baseball mom
A -13 Youth bat is going to be very, very small for a 13 year old player. If he uses it, don't expect it to last very long as it is better suited for younger players. If he needs to use a youth small barrel bat, I would recommend something in a -10 length to weight ratio.
Tyler
My son is 4'7 and 66lbs. He is a contact hitter with a little slow bat speed. He is very fast and hits lead off. What do you recommend? robert
The Easton S2 or even an Easton S1 would be a perfect bat for your son. The two-piece balanced design helps increase swing speed, because of the flex in the barrel.
Noah
my son is 10 y.o. 70 lbs and 58 inches tall. According to size chart he should get 30 inch bat. Would it hurt to get 31 inch so he can use it longer as he grows or would it be too much bat for him this season? Blair
We would be unable to answer that question without knowing; 1)The length and weight of his current bat, and 2)His swing speed and bat control with his current bat.
Tyler
My son is 9 years old, 4'9' and weighs 80 pounds. would a 30" 17 oz. be correct or should I look at a different size as he hits for more contact than power? mike
I think a 30" 17 oz. or a 30" 18 oz. would be the right size for your son.
Jeff
Do half-and-half bats have a longer sweet spot than a full composite bat (trading off a little bit of power)? If so, would that make an S2 better than an S1 for contact hitters? Alex
Two-Piece Hybrid Designs do not have a larger sweet spot than full composites do.
Zach
11 year old son has used a Convert 29/17 the last 1.5 years. He is around 4'11 and 92 lbs. Has good control of the bat/hand eye coordination and looking at the 31" S2 even though the 30" is recommended. Even choking up a little bit is 31 too long? Thanks. Eric
That's hard for us to say without being able to actually see and analyze your son's swing with that size bat. He should be just fine choking up a bit, but I would recommend finding a similar size bat locally and have him take some dry swings with it to get an idea of how it feels.
Tyler
Why does the YBS2 and YBS3 come in a -13 and the YBS1 only in a -12? PJ
Easton would be better suited to answer that question for you. Their phone number is 1-888-259-1297.
Tyler
My son currently hits with a 27" 14.5 oz. Rampage. Would the S2 28" 15 oz. be too big? He is 48" tall and weighs 48 lbs. East County
A 28" 15 oz. 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat would a good large size bat that your son could grow into.
Kevin S.
What is the difference between the S2 and S3? I understand that one is a one piece alloy and the other a two piece hybrid however what does that mean or translate to in terms of comparable performance?Would like to see him increase contact while maintaining his power. Nick
The 2013 Easton S2 is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The 2013 Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy bat. Two-piece bats help increase a player's swing speed. Both bats are going to perform relatively the same.
Marcus
My son used to use a 30" -12 bat and liked it. He is 12 yrs old, 61" tall, and 100 lbs. I'm thinking he should be using a 31" or a 32" bat now. I am unsure of what weight he should be using. What weight bat would you recommended? Should He stick with a -12 as well? Mick
We suggest a 31" bat for your son. I really think he should swinging a -10 or if he is stronger a -8. When he is 13, he will most likely have to go up to a -5. So I would be getting him ready for that.
Chad M.
We have found a YB11S2 for less money than the YB13S2. I assume this is a 2011 vs a 2013. What is the difference between the two bats. Is the 2013 worth $60 more? Jason
The YB11S2 is the previous years bat, and is being sold at a discount to move them out of inventory. There were no major changes to the overall construction of the bat. Only change would be the paint scheme.
Derek
My son is 10 years old and is 51" tall and 51 lbs. He nearly always makes contact with the ball, but doesn't have a lot of power and mostly hits it towards first base. He did great with the Easton Reflex LX73 Youth 29" 16 oz., but broke it at batting practice today. Would this bat be a good replacement for him? Digger
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth would make a great replacement for your Reflex. The addition of the composite handle in the S2 should help your son generate a bit more power on the ball.
Kevin
My son is 11 years old, his height is 5'1", and he weighs 90lbs. I brought home the Easton S2 in a 30" 20 oz. Is this the right size for him? He felt like the 31 inch was too long, but seeing the sizing guide maybe that is the better choice. npbloom
A 30" is also going to work fine for him. If he feels like a 30" 2013 Easton S2 is the way to go it really probably is.
Noah
I Purchased this bat and after a few hits it appears to have a plastic coating on the barrel it is shedding. We removed the wrapper, starting with a small break in the plastic and then coming off from there. Is this a defect or is the coating supposed to come off? PD
All of our bats come with a plastic wrapper on it. If you have already removed that then it could be a defect but it would be the color of the bat.
Chad M.
My son is 5'1 and is 120lbs. He is 10yrs old. I was debating about whether the S2 or XL2 is the best choice for him. Also, 31" or 32"? He's on the borderline according to your chart. DaveB
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 is well balanced and would be recommended for hitters with average to below average strength and swing speed. The 2013 Easton XL2: YB13X2 is endloaded making it a better option for hitters with above average strength and swing speed. If a player is in between sizes according to charts, and you are not sure what size to get based on his previous size bats, it would be recommended to go with the larger size so the player can grow in to it if needed.
Tyler
My son is 10 and smaller for his age. He currently uses a big barrel 29" -10. I am stuck on Easton. He hits to the right side 90% of the time. Should I go with a drop as much as -13 to increase bat speed? Gander
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth would make a great drop -13 bat choice and would certainly increase his speed. However, you won't find a big barrel drop -13 bat.
Kevin
Does this bat take time to break in? sfbball
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth has an alloy barrel so it does not require a break-in period. This bat is hot out of the box.
Frank
My son is 5 feet and about a 100 lbs. We want to replace his Easton Convert LT460XL which was 30". He tried an older Easton Stealth Speed and liked it. Would you recommend an Easton S1, S2, or the Easton XL2? Should he move up to a 31" bat? Jason
The 2013 Easton S1: YB13S1 Youth will be the closest model to the Stealth Speed, but the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is also a good choice for a contact hitter. The XL series is end loaded for power hitting. I would recommend staying at a 30" bat for your son's size.
Kevin
What is the difference between the 2012 S2 and the 2013 S2? clb
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth has upgraded composite in the handle compared to the 2012 Easton S2: YB11S2 Youth.
Katie
My son is 135 pounds. He is 5'5", should he be using a 31" or a 30" bat? He is 12 years old and I was wondering if the XL1, S1, or the S2 was the right bat for my son? The Showtime
The recommended size for him would be a 32" 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat. Also, the S1 would be a great choice. Both bats will have a balanced feel and be very easy to swing.
Brandon
Does the Easton S2: YB11S2 have the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp on transition area? Coach H
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth has the new USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp.
Kara
Can the Easton S2 be used in cold weather? sfbball
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat, with it's alloy barrel, will withstand slightly colder temperatures than a bat with a composite barrel. However, we do not recommend using any bat in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit as they become more susceptible to damage.
Mac
Which is better, the Easton S2 or Easton S3? jcole0602
Both are good bats. The Easton S2 is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and alloy barrel. The Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy. The Easton S2 will have more flex and the composite handle will cut down on vibration.
Damon
Does this bat have to be broken in? easts2
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is a two-piece hybrid design meaning it has a composite handle and an aluminum barrel. Aluminum barrels do not require a break-in period, and are good to go from day one.
John H
Is it safe to clean this with soap and water, or just water? baws
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat will be fine to clean with soap and water.
Brandon
What is the difference between to S2 and the XL2? bob
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is a balanced bat while the XL2 model is an end loaded bat.
Kevin
Easton has newer bat out this year called Easton Quantum. It's a two piece also and seems a bit cheaper then the S2. Do you know what the difference is between the two? Brad
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth uses a higher grade of alloy in the barrel and a higher grade of composite in the handle.
Kara
What is the difference between the YB11S1 and the YB13S2? shaky
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is a two-piece with an alloy barrel and composite handle. The 2012 Easton S1: YB11S1 Youth is a two-piece fully composite. In 2013, Easton upgraded the composite in the handle of the S1 and S2 so that it's stiffer, resulting in a more durable design and creating a greater whip effect.
Katie

What size should I get for this bat? 30" 17 oz. or 31" 18 oz.? I am 59 inches, 70 pounds, and 11 years old. I currently use a 30-17 Easton Reflex. Brian
Based on your height and weight we recommend a 30" 17 oz. 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth.
Kara
As far as "pop", are the S1 and S2 comparable? keith
Yes, the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth and S1 Youth both feature the new USSSA BPF 1.15 performance certification and have balanced swing weights. Composite barrels are not proven to outperform alloy barrels, so both bats wouuld have similar pop.
Mac
Which bat has more pop, this or the Rawlings Plasma? eman
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth and the Rawlings Plasma are both great bats, but the Easton S2 will be slightly higher in performance.
Noah
I'm a 5' 1" 105 lb. player who can hit for contact and power, but do better with a light bat. Which is better, the S2, XL2, or XL3 jackcola
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is going to be best for your style of hitting.
Noah
My son is a short 13 year old at 4'9" and around 90 pounds. He has tried the 32" 19 oz Easton S1, but I feel he should use a 30" or 31". Thoughts? Matt
At his height and weight, the recommended size is a 30"-31" bat. Here is a link to our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
John
My son has the Easton Convert 29" 17 oz. and it seems to be a good bat for him. What is the difference between the Convert and the Easton S2 and Easton S3? How would they compare? Brad
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth and the Easton Convert are both two-piece bats with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth uses a higher grade of alloy than the Easton Convert. The Easton S3 is a one-piece alloy.
Kara
I have a 10 year old, 4'3" 55 lbs, contact hitter looking for a bat to increase his pop. He prefers a lighter bat. Looking at Easton S1, S2 or Demarini CF5. Can you make best recommendation on a LL approved bat? MAI
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 28" model in the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat. All three of those bats feature very light and balanced swing weights and would be good options for that player.

Kara
Which would be a better bat for a little league player, the Easton Reflex or the 2013 Easton S2? ucla
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth and the Easton Reflex are both great bats. The S2 is a two-piece bat and better designed for a contact hitter. The Easton Reflex is stiffer and is better suited for a power hitter.
Kara
Is the barrel 2 5/8? sam
No, the Easton S2 Youth model has a 2 1/4" barrel. The senior league model that has the 2 5/8" barrel is the SL13S210.

A two-piece bat like the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth is best for a contact hitter. The Easton S3 is better suited for a power hitter.

I am looking at getting the bat pack combo (S2&S3)for my 9 year old son. He is 60 lbs and 52" tall. I want a bat that will grow with him. What size do you think? I like the 30" 17 oz. or 31" 18 oz. He currently uses a 30" 19 oz. skinnys dad
Based on his height and weight we recommend a 30" 17 oz. 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth. We are currently out of stock of the 30" 17 oz. The new models are expected on September 1st.

My son is 8 and half but playing with 9 and 10 year olds in Minor AAA fall ball because he is 52" tall and 70+ pounds. He is currently swinging a 29" Easton Reflex (-12?). He gets it around fine but he complains of bat sting and it doesn't seem to have a lot of pop. He is primarily a contact hitter but is starting to show some power in batting practice. I am looking at the S2 in the 30" 17 oz. size. Is this too big for him given his age? I would hate to spend the money on a high end bat that he will outgrow by spring. Thanks. KD
The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth features a composite handle and alloy barrel. The composite barrel will help eliminate sting. The two-piece design if best for a contact hitter. Based on his height and weight we recommend a 29" bat.
Kara
What are the pros/cons between a hybrid composite/alloy or a purely composite bat? brian
A two-piece hybrid design can help improve swing speed. It can also help dampen vibrations that can reach the hands. The 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth bat would be a perfect example of that. One-piece bats can feel more stiff and are loved by power hitters.
Brandon
I'm looking at the S2, S3, or the 2013 CF5 DXCFL and wanted to get your opinion on size. He used a 28" 16 oz last season, and he is 52.5" and 65 lbs. I think the 30" 17 oz (-13) would be the size? Andre
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 29" model in the 2013 Easton S2: YB13S2 Youth. If he can handle the extra weight a 30" model is also acceptable.
Jason

Is it okay to use this bat in cages that use the dense yellow rubberized balls? Box
We do not recommend using the Easton S2 (YB13S2) Youth with the yellow rubber cage balls. Both Alloy and Composite bats are designed specifically for hitting baseballs. The yellow cage balls are heavier than baseballs and will shorten the life span of your bat.
Aaron
What is the reason for a composite handle and alloy barrel? joe
The two-piece design of the Easton S2 (YB13S2) provides more flex than a one-piece bat. The flex helps the hitter get the bat through the zone. The two-piece bats are typically used by contact hitters.
Kara
We just purchased the Easton S2 (YB13S2) for my 8 year old son. He is in AA Little League. Will the bat get damaged if the ball is hit off the handle section? These younger players sometimes do that. Tom
The Easton S2 (YB13S2) Youth bat will be durable and should not have any issues with breakage if the player hits a ball off the handle. If an issue with breakage does occur, the S2 does come with a full year warranty through Easton.
Patrick
is it okay to use this bat in a league that allows composite handles but aluminum barrels? elio
Yes. The Easton S2 (YB13S2) will incorporate a SIC Black Carbon Composite handle and will have a THT100 Scadium Alloy barrel. Therefore, this will be a hybrid design and will be approved for play that allows composite handles and alloy barrels.
Merritt
What is the difference between YB13S1 and YB13S2? Little League says S1 is approved but S2 is not listed as approved? Mike
The Easton S2 (YB13S2) Youth is a two-piece design with a alloy barrel and a composite handle. The Easton S1 (YB13S1) is a two-piece full composite design. Both models will be approved for Little League play. Little League has a "Approved Composite Bat List" which the S1 will be on. The reason why you are not seeing the S2 on the list because it features an alloy barrel.
John
How do I know if I broke my YB13S2? Aj

Patrick
My son is 11 1/2 years old and is 4 foot 11 inches tall and weighs about 90 pounds. Is this the bat you would recommend for him? He is a good ball player but not a strong hitter. He will be playing intermediate ball in the spring and will try out for the middle school team. Shunpiker
The Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S2) would be a nice model for your player. The hybrid design combines hot out of the wrapper performance of an alloy barrel with the sting and vibration protection of a composite handle. Based on height and weight, we would suggest a 30 inch size of the S2. This model year is not available in that size but the 2015 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB15S2) is the newer model available that would come in that size.
Patrick
Why is the s2 discontinued? B
This model of the Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB13S2) was discontinued when the 2014 version came out because they started producing the newer model.
Patrick
