is the B4 durable? I've had it for about a month and i have already seen a crack right on the sweet spot...just below the 4 on the bat. It wasn't a problem until it was rejected by the board member who inspects all the equipment at the all stars. hey hey

I would say the B1 and B2 are a little higher performing than the B4. The B4 is still an excellent bat that will perform very well. COMBAT just made some minor adjustments to the composite construction to ensure it met Little Leagues new standards.

A lot is personal preference. I like the feel of the b4 a little better.

If you are comparing the B4 to the B3 Gear Retro, I think both are very similar in terms of overall performance. Although, the B4 has been pretty popular so far and I've heard several customers say it's better performing than the B3.

All three are excellent bats. As far as weight, it really depends on what size bat he is currently using or used last season. You typically want to move up at least an ounce in weight every year. There truly isn't one of the three bats that is better than the rest.

The B4 will only be made in a youth model. The B3SL1 is available in a drop 10 big barrel though.

100-200 hits off a tee or doing soft-toss will break this bat in. Make sure to rotate that bat a quarter inch while taking hits to evenly break it in.

The COMBAT B4 would be a better bat for a power, or home run hitting type player. The S1 is suited for the placement hitter types, but was also designed to transfer some of that speed to power in the swing.

what the difference between -10 and -12? my son is 11 and weights 100lbs. bruce
The -10 and -12 are going to be the differences between the length and weight. If a bat is 30 inches and 20 ounces, the bat is going to be a -10. If the bat is 30 inches and 18 ounces, then it is going to be a -12. It is just the length minus the weight.

The B4 is going to perform like the B2. It is all composite where as the Grifter has a composite handle and alloy barrel.

This is a 2011 model, it does say USSSA 1.15 bpf, so it is legal for 2012. It just doesn't have the most recent marking for the USSSA. The marking it has will be grandfathered in for 2012 but in 2013 all bats will be required to have the newest stamp.

The B4 does have the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp and will be legal in USSSA play in 2013 and 2014 according to the USSSA web site. As far as other leagues and organizations there is no way to predict any rule changes.

This model will not feature the USSSA BPF 1.15 "thumbprint" stamp that all the big barrels are requiring for 2012. It does state on the barrel USSSA BPF 1.15 which will make it legal for play in 2012.

The B4 is a composite bat that benefits from a break-in period. We recommend 150-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Make sure you rotate the barrel of the bat about a quarter of an inch every 15-20 swings to help fully break in the composite fibers.

The COMBAT B4 does have a BPF 1.15 stamp. However, if you are referring to the new USSSA stamp that will be required by USSSA beginning in 2014, it does not have that stamp.

A significant drop in performance is the best indicator of a bat that has lost it's pop or "gone dead". If your bat is still under warranty (typically lasts one year), you can contact COMBAT at 1-866-266-2287.

Both are good bats. The Easton XL1 replaced the Easton Omen and is a two-piece composite, so it will have more flex than the COMBAT B4 which is a one-piece composite

I've seen this happen to every composite bat on the market. It may not be too common, but it happens enough to where manufacturers will cover their bats under a full warranty. If you call COMBAT at 1-866-266-2287, they will set you up with a replacement.

It would not be that one bat, whether the COMBAT B4 Youth Baseball Bat (B4YB1 -10) or the Easton XL1 Youth Baseball Bat (YB14X1), would automatically lead to more home runs than the other. The major difference would be the feel of the bat in the one-piece versus two-piece designs. It is also that the B4 is more balanced and the XL1 is end-loaded so it would come down to which feel your player is more comfortable with.
