2018 Velo drop 12 Coach coach

Pros: light, balanced with good pop. Purchased this as a second bat to use against hard throwing pitchers for my son who plays 10u travel ball. After a few hitting sessions bat is broken in nicely and my son likes it.

Cons: After two weeks of using bat no complaints.

Too heavy when compared to advertised weight Brian parent

Pros: Feels solid and I'm sure the other ratings are indicative of how well it hits, but it is significantly heavier than the stated weight.

Cons: Ordered a 28/16 and 27/15. The 28 weighed 18.5oz and the 27 weighed even more at 18.75 ozs. I wanted my son to like the bat, but I was buying a drop 12 for a reason. Ended up going with an Easton because it was closest to advertised weight.

All the other players want to use it!!!! Dan parent

Pros: This bat really made a huge difference in swing speed for my son who plays 9U travel ball. He loves this bat which has improved his confidence and you know what that does for young players! Many of his team mates use his bat and have asked their parents to buy them one. Great Pop, Feel, and no Vibration. Awesome all around product for this age range. I ended up buying the 2017 due to JustBats review for best bats for a 9 year old. Was a great choice!!

Cons: Many of his team mates want to use it and in the 9U world this can cause on deck problems! Seriously only con is the previous model 2017 cracked within 2 months, I don't know if this was because of not breaking in correctly? If too many kids were using it and not taking care of it in dugout? Anyway Rawlings sent me the 2018 version since it was still in warranty. The only thing I don't understand is why you only receive one warranty claim per bat? If it cracks it cracks and if you just received a new one and it is under a year you should be justified in AGAIN receiving a replacement. So anyway we are making sure this one is being taken care of and overall great product!

Best bat I have ever bought DiamondDad parent

Pros: This bat is the most complete bat I have ever bought. The balance of this -12 is amazing. Most -12 bats are very top heavy but not this one. My son plays on my 12U team and is getting better bat speed than ever before. The pop is awesome and the feel of the ball coming off the bat is unreal. Zero vibration. The grips on the Rawlings are in my opinion the best grips on the market. Not that it makes a difference in performance, but this bat simply looks good. The paint and finish so far have been durable as well. My son's confidence has exploded since hitting with this bat. If you are trying to decide between this bat and any other -12, don't look any longer. I have bought 10-12 bats over the past 10 years for my 3 sons who all played travel ball in different age classes and this bat is the most complete bat I have ever bought.

Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Great Purchase TN dad parent

Pros: This bat exceeded out of the wrapper expectations for a composite bat. As far as being over the stated weight, I can't say, but my small 7u swings the 28-16 with confidence, speed, and absolute power when his swing falls into place. Massive sweet spot barrel. He wants to hit everyday with it, unlike his last alloy bat.

Cons: The only con is the grip, easy change though.

Velo Drop 12 Ryan parent

Pros: Bat is very hot. Has tons of pop and is super balanced. My son plays on a 9U travel baseball team and loves this bat. It has little to no vibration. The bat flies through the zone.

Cons: The durability is the issues here. We bought this bat last July when it first came out. It was cracked by October. Rawlings was awesome and they had us a new bat in less then a week. Sadly the replacement bat cracked last night. So basically he has only been able to get about 3 or so months of use out of each bat. My son I would say is an average height and weight for a 9 year old. He does have very quick hands and swings hard. So I don't know if he is to much for the bat or it is poor quality, I understand there is a trade off for a bat that is hot and the durability of a bat. but this is kind of inexcusable. a 9 year old should not be able to crack two bats with in a six month time frame.

Garbage! Eric D. coach

Pros: -Great Pop -No sting/vibration -Very light swing weight

Cons: -Durability -Durability -Did I say durability? If you want a bat that won't last through the season and really get your jolly's off returning bats to the manufacturer, this is the bat for you. Look around at reviews on different sites. Trust people when they say it broke. I thought maybe there were just a few flukes. Nope, if you have a kid with a decent swing this thing will break.

Great Bat but not durable Ben Bearden coach

Pros: Great pop straight out of the box, and very little vibration. My 11U son went to a composite bat to minimize vibration and for the pop. This bat definitely has both.

Cons: We had this bat a month and it cracked in the sweet spot during batting practice by an 11 year old. The bat is under warranty but I'm concerned that our new replacement bat will do the same before the season is over and we will be out a total of $400 having to purchace a 2nd bat, because the warranty only covers one return. Having said all this, I'm NOT Impressed with the durability of this bat!

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
