Description

The Rawlings VELO has earned a reputation for being one of the lightest and fastest swinging baseball bats on the market from year to year and the newest version completely backs it up. Never in the history of baseball have more pitchers touched 90+ mph so hitters have less time to react at the dish, and there's no time for error. If the game is evolving to become this fast, then shouldn't your bat be? Thanks to the VELO's Silver Comp Lite composite end cap that is fiber reinforced, unnecessary weight is removed from the end of the barrel, shifting the MOI towards the player's hands. If your increased swing speed or the awesome cosmetics don't turn heads at the ball field, the enhanced pop and resonating ping from the acoustic alloy surely will. Rawlings' acoustic alloy enhances the durability and is the loudest alloy on the market - the proof is in the ping! Not only does this VELO offer the loudest ping in the industry, but the precision laser pOp 2.0 creates a lasered groove through the sweet spot that increases flexibility and the trampoline effect. Extreme balance, an explosive swing speed, and massive pop are the three things that make up the winning combination the VELO offers. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro!

This Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features a -3 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and is BBCOR Certified for high school and collegiate play. The one-piece alloy construction is offered in 1/2 inch sizes and is backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Purchase your VELO today with fast, free shipping!

Well balanced bat with great pop Ty Bittner player

Pros: This bat is extremely well balanced and has great pop. I've had this bat for about a month now and it still feels brand new, the only issue I have is the grip, it's rough on the hands/batting gloves (at least in my experience) and it tore on me after a couple weeks of use. A lizard skin would be a good quick fix to this nearly perfect bat.

Cons: The grip wore out and tore on my model.

New to BBCOR Rob Eurez coach

Pros: My son had to jump to a BBCOR for next spring. Did some research and asked some other coaches. The Velo was highly recommended. Nice surprise; Well balanced, swing and hitting power! Not as traditionally dead for most BBCOR bats.

2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Turner H. player

Pros: I hit the Rawlings VELO and the Slugger 617 at a demo since both are composite end cap models. Both felt similar when swinging, but the two main differences I noticed was the great pop of the VELO and a much louder ping.

Pros: This bat has a great feel/pop to it. Ive put this bat to work in for many weeks of games/batting practice and i haven't had to put any lizard skin on it. The pop should probably be illegal for games. and I've only seen minor scratches on mine.

Best bat i've ever owned. SCHS Varsity Baseball player

Pros: In my opinion, Rawlings bats in general are amazing. I have swung countless 5150's and Velo's and frm i understand the Trio's are great as well. This bat is a step above the others though. The ball flies off the bat and the carry is unrivaled. Whole team uses it, 5 bombs in 2 games and absolube missles in bp. The feel is the best of any bat I have ever felt too. Its not extremely top heavy as to where smaller guys cant control it and get it around but its not so balanced that the ball dosent carry. There is also great feedback when you strike the ball. When you square it up, the feel is unmatched. As with most alloy bats, when the ball is mis-hit, its not pleasent but that also teaches you to hit. Lastly, the burability is rediculous. My 5150 had been taking 150-200 cuts everyday for the better part of a year now and it just keeps getting hotter. Never had it break or chil. Simply put, YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS BAT BECAUSE IT IS WORTH EVERY DIME.

Cons: Not a thing.

Great Bat Carson Rosa player

Pros: This bat has successfully lived up to its older brother (the 2016 velo). Third day of hitting, I hit a 412 foot homerun with a 103 exit velo. Light enough to swimg fast, but heavy enough to have power behind your swing. Very balanced.

Cons: None.

Can't get better Dingered player

Pros: See those 450 dollar composites? They should be ashamed selling those bats 150 dollars more than the velo. You can't get better than this. Great sweet spot size, amazing sound and pop, best balance, and this acoustic alloy really takes away all vibration. I've hit 70 mph pitches of the composite endcap with no sting. Trust me, I've done it tons cuz I suck. JK. This bat has top notch balance put up with the CF8(450 bucks) and I've swung both. Beats the Mako beast(450 bucks) in balance any day. The composite endcap does wonders for the balance. Overview: LOUD, light swinging bat with tons of pop with no vibration. If you can't take an end load and appreciate a balanced aluminum, this is for you! GET IT!!!!!

The 2017 Rawlings Velo Darius player

Pros: This bat has a very light swing weight, and can be used for contact as well as power hitters. The grip is on the thicker side but it is very comfortable. I love the sound and feel of the sweet spot, and the pop is great. Never did I think the sweet spot was small.

Cons: -Scratches easily (cosmetic) that's about it. If you're looking for faster swing speeds and want an aluminum stick, consider this bad boy. -Typical vibration like any other one piece bat, but I don't mind it because it helps me adjust for the next at bat.

Pros: Bat was hot right out the box. Great Feel, balanced swing. I came across this bat by chance. The end cap came off of my old reliable and no one had a bat like mine so I used a teammates Velo. I wasn't sure how I would like a balanced bat being a power hitter but I quickly feel in love with the feel and pop of the Velo. After a few tournaments I bought my own.

Pros: Bought this bat for my son for the new baseball season. He is 6'3" 240lb junior in high school with interests from several D1 schools. He loves this bat. Pros: Awesome bat!! Alot of pop, sounds great, my son is 14 and swings a 32/29 for his high school team. we have mostly used Demarni composite bats which dont do well in cooler temps. we made the switch to this bat and as long as they keep producing this one we will never go back! love everything about this bat. we have not Experienced any issues with the wrap coming off yet like some other post have mentioned. DJF DJF parent

Pros: I thought all BBCOR bats were the same. My son is about 5"2' and used to use a CAT 6. It was a great bat but felt it was slightly end loaded for him. He hit the ball well and it had good pop. We purchased the Velo 2017 after he tried one in a tournament. He said the bat "felt" balanced and he was also able to adjust his mechanics so he was hitting liners not big "pop ups" that kept getting caught in the outfield. This bat delivers what it says it does.

Pros: Fantastic balance. Large sweet spot. Consistently great pop. Amazing durability. My 17U player has swung nothing but the Velo for several years. He hits home runs with the Velo no problem. It takes a beating and performs like a champion. No need to spend hundreds more on a fancy multi-piece bat.

Great bat! Jeff parent

Pros: Really pleased with this purchase! Great balance and pop! My 12yr old son was using a 32" Rawlings 5150 -5 bat earlier this year and really liked it. The 5150 was just about as much bat as he could get around properly with so when I bought the Velo at 32.5" -3, I was worried the extra weight might be a problem for him initially. Not so! This bat has such great balance and feel that he swings it better than the -5 bat. So far he is loving it and the ball really comes off this bat crisply! I preferred the one piece alloy over a two piece or a composite... just a personal preference and this bat certainly has delivered in all aspects. This bat can go toe to toe with any other bat on the market.

Pros: Great pop and sound. Really provides great hitter feedback when you hit a ball on the screws with the sound of the bat and the exit velo.

Cons: The grip looks great and is comfortable but will only last a couple of hundred swings before it comes apart. Spend 10 bucks on a lizard skin grip when you buy the bat, grips are an easy fix.

Jason
I've had Rawlings' bats since I've moved to BBCOR and I love them. But what would you recommend: the 2017 VELO or the 2016 VELO? bluechips
I would recommend this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) over the 2016 VELO as this 2017 bat has received a couple of upgrades when compared to the 2016 model. This 2017 VELO has a Silver Comp Lite End Cap that helps make the bat even more balanced in its feel. As well, this bat features Precision Laser pOp 2.0 technology that increases the flex and performance off the bat. Because of those upgrades, I would recommend this 2017 VELO over the 2016 VELO.
Ben
My son has the 2015 VELO and loves it. He tried the 2016 VELO and still prefers the 2015. He said it felt lighter and better balanced. How does this 2017 compare to the 2015 model? Hawaiian Buc Fan
The pOp 2.0 technology of the 2017 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V allows for an increase in flex and pop compared to the 2015 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRVB. Both models have a low MOI and an extremely well balanced swing weight. The 2016 model also features pOp 2.0 technology so the 2017 model is more similar to the 2016 model than the 2015 model.
Angelique

Jason
I'm 5'5" and 130 lbs. I am looking to see what size of bat I should get to improve my hitting. What size should I get? Cole
Based upon your height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) in the 31" length. As long as you feel that you can handle the 28 oz weight of the 31" option of this Velo, I would recommend that size option of this bat.
Ben
What is the difference between the 2016 Velo and the new one? Big Q Dog
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V has a new Silver Comp Lite End Cap that helps improve the balance over the 2016 model. Otherwise the two bats are very similar.
Jason
Is this bat for contact hitters or power hitters? Cole
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V works for any type of hitter, but the balanced swing weight is typically preferred by contact hitters.
Jason
How would you compare and contrast the VELO and the CAT 7? bambam6
Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC7) are going to be very similar bats. Both are going to be one piece aluminum bats. The main difference that a lot of players notice is that the Rawlings Velo is going to be much louder due to the Acoustic Alloy. Other than that the two bats are going to be extremely comparable.
Carter
What size bat do you recommend for my son? He is 5'1" and 110 pounds. anthony
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
I made my high school team for baseball and I need a very reliable bat. I was looking into the Easton Z-CORE White Out the 2017 or 2015 Rawlings VELO or the Louisville Slugger Prime. Which one is the best rated? dinger squad
All three of those bat are very good bats and have been well received. Whether someone liked one over the other would be a lot of personal preference. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) has been one of the most popular bats for years now.
Carter
I am 6'1" and 130 pound sophomore. What size would you recommend? rick
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
Is this bat better for a contact hitter or a power hitter? bobby
The 2017 Rawlings VELO BBCOR (BB7V) is a model that would be well suited to either style hitter. The well balanced style is a favorite of contact hitters, while it also sports a one-piece alloy construction which is favored typically by power hitters. This combination lets the VELO work well with all types of hitters.
Kyle J.
I am a 6'4" 195 pound power hitter. What size do you suggest? jordan
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 34" model in the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
What's the difference between the normal Velo and the Velo Hybrid? cole
This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) will be the same as the "Velo Hybrid" that is advertised on some websites. The reason that another website would call the bat a "hybrid" is probably due to the bat featuring multiple types of materials. This bat has an alloy handle and barrel, but the end-cap of the bat is made of composite material.
Ben
I am 6'4" and 205 lbs. Would you recommend the 2017 Velo or the 2017 Mako Beast? Teddy
For your height and weight, we recommend using a 34" 31 oz. bat. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17MK are both high performing bats with a balanced swing weight. Deciding between the two will be dependent on your personal preference of material and construction. The Velo has a one-piece, fully alloy design and the MAKO BEAST is a two-piece, fully composite model.
Angelique
Does Rawlings have any end loaded models? noahv
Unfortunately, Rawlings does not have any end loaded models. There are some of their bats that are more balanced than others but they are all balanced models.
Cooper
Does the 2017 Velo have an extended barrel/sweet spot like the 2015 and 2016? don
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features an extended barrel and sweet spot compared to the Rawlings 5150, just like the 2015 and 2016 Velos.
Angelique
I would like to know the actual weight of the bat in the 31/28 version. I know what the label says but I would like the actual weight. JEFF
The weight of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is about 1.5 ounces heavier than the listed weight after accounting for grip tape, etc.
Cameron
I am 5'10" and weigh 150 lbs. What size bat would you recommend for me? Also, what is the main difference between the Rawlings Velo and the 5150? Matthew
For your height and weight, we recommend a 32" 29 oz. BBCOR bat. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features an acoustic alloy that will have a slightly louder "ping" noise than the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB75. The Velo also has a fiber reinforced composite end cap to help improve balance.
Angelique
Which Rawlings model would feel most similar to the Trio model? John
There aren't any Rawlings models currently out that are quite like the 2016 Rawlings TRIO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRT3. That bat is extremely balanced, as is the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. The Velo is a one-piece alloy composite, so the 2017 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7Q4 may be a bit more comparable to the Trio.
Linsey
What's the difference between the 2017 model and 2016 model? Also, my son is a freshman in high school. What size BBCOR bat will be good for him? He's 5'8" and 130 pounds. Shooter
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 31 or 32 inch model depending on current strength of the player. As for the difference(s) between the 2016 and 2017 models of the VELO, the grip tape is much thicker on the 2017 model to help reduce vibration from off centered hits and the colorway has been changed.
Cameron
I am 6'0 ft and 140 lbs. What size bat should I order? Also what is the difference in the 2017 VELO and the Rawlings Quatro? Jack
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 32"/29oz bat for you. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) is going to feature a one piece aluminium design while the 2017 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7Q4) This 2017 Rawlings Quatro BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7Q4) will feature an all-composite design. As well, the composite barrel and composite handle will be fused together at a connection point. You could refer to the bat as a a two-piece bat. The two are going to offer a very different feel. Whether you would want one or the other is going to come down to your personal preference.
Carter
I ordered the bat without using it beforehand. I have no idea what to expect. What can I expect when using the 2017 Rawlings VELO? B.H
This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) will feature a very balanced swing weight (due to its composite end-cap) that will allow any type of hitter (power or contact) to be able to achieve extremely fast swing speeds. That quick swing speed combined with excellent acoustic alloy material will allow for great performance off the bat.
Ben
Would you prefer the 2017 Rawlings VELO over the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617? leadoff
When comparing the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 there are only subtle differences as both bats are one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. Personal preference would ultimately determine which bat a player would pick as both are great options to consider. The new VELO does have a thicker grip tape then previously to help reduce vibration more so then in previous models.
Cameron
Does the grip tape vary? The pic on the website looks black and green. Mine arrived today and it looks grey and green. Chris
The grip tape will not vary on the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. Sometimes it can be tough to distinguish the color on merchandise due to the lighting, etc.
Cameron
We play baseball in the Northeast were it is cold and the temperature get as cold as 40 degrees. What bats would you suggest? robert tiedemann
We would recommend one-piece alloy bats similar to this 2017 Rawlings Velo (BB7V). When playing in the cold, do your best to store the bat in a warm environment.
Kyle J.
I'm 6'4" and 175 lbs. What size should I get this bat in? jt
Based on your height and weight, you could get the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in either a 33 or 34 inch model. It would really come down to what you feel most comfortable using.
Cameron
I am a freshman looking for a good bat to use my sophomore and junior year too. What bat do you suggest? I'm 5'9" 160 lbs. Tanner
Based on your height and weight I would recommend a 32"/29 ounce 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V).
Carter
Do you have any thoughts about a how a 32' end-loaded bat might feel compared to a 32.5' balanced VELO? Would it be worth adding the extra half inch or would that negate any gains in bat speed? Jasper
An end-loaded bat will certainly have a different swing weight feel to it when compared to a one-piece alloy bat featuring a balanced swing weight like the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. Whether or not to swing and end-loaded bat or a balanced bat comes down to ones personal preference and what feels better. When considering whether or not to go with a half inch size, from example 33.5"/30.5 ounces, would consider how well your current plate coverage is and how much bat speed you can generate with a 33/30. The half ounce should not considerable affect bat speed and the additional weight will have a marginal affect on power. If anything, a half inch size allows a player to slightly choke up on the bat; that is where the advantage can be.
Cameron
I have a freshman that is 5'8" and 140 lbs. What size bat do I order? Tabs
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
Are there any bats in the market that have a lighter/equal swing weight? Luke
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is arguably the lightest feeling most balanced BBCOR bat on the market. Balance can feel different to everybody, but the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBSO6173 and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC7 are extremely balanced bats as well.
Jason
How does the VELO compare to the Louisville Slugger 617 weight and pop wise? the waiver
Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Solo 617 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBSO6173) are going to be extremely balanced bats and pretty comparable performance. The main difference between the two is going to be the Acoustic Alloy that the Velo features. It is a very loud aluminum.
Carter
My son is 15 and I have noticed that his swing is much better with his ash wood Rawlings VELO than with any of the composite bats he owns. He has much more control and his batting avg. is better with the wood bat as well. His swing seems to deteriorate over time when swinging a composite bat. My thought is that maybe he needs the continuous feel and feedback the wood provides. I want to find him a bat that he can use in high school that is going to swing like wood. I've heard that the 2017 Rawlings VELO and LS Solo 617 could possibly be the answer. I would love your opinion on the matter. Also, if you have any other suggestions for a non-wood bat that swings like wood. Coach t-bone
There are many great BBCOR bats on the market that will offer a one-piece design with a balanced swing weight. There are some bats on the market that actually weigh more than what the bat is listed at and this could be what is causing the issue as wood bats are typically within 2 to 3 ounces of the length of the bat. With that being said, both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the LS Solo 617 are excellent one-piece, fully alloy bats with balanced swing weights. What most customers tend to like about the VELO is how well balanced the bat is. If you are seeking a bat that will feel similar to his current wood bat then the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V would be a very good option to consider.
Cameron
What is the best bat on market? dicky
It's impossible to claim one bat as the all-around best bat, especially with BBCOR models where they are all regulated to have the same amount of pop and comply to the same exact standards. That said, some models do offer better handling, larger sweet spots, and other things to separate themselves, and this Rawlings VELO (BB7V) is an excellent bat that I'd rate very highly.
Kyle J.
What is the difference between the last year's model (2016) and this year's (2017) Rawlings VELO? josh
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V has a new Silver Comp Lite End Cap that helps improve the balance over the 2016 model. Otherwise the two bats are very similar.
Sean
What size and length would I need to get for my son who is 5'10", 190 lbs? robert south
Based on your son's height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30 ounce 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V).
Carter
What's the difference between the 2016 & 2017 model? Lloyd
There have been a few updates between the 2 differing year bats. This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) features an updated Silver Comp Lite End Cap that will make the bat more balanced feeling. As well, the pOp technology has been updated to provide a little bigger sweet spot.
Ben
Break-in time? Jeff King
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) is an aluminum bat and does not require any break in time.
Carter
What bat would you recommend for my son who is 5'5" 125 lbs? Jerry
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest the 31" 28 ounce 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Logan
I hit fourth in the line-up with quite a few homers with an end-loaded bat. However, I would like a lighter feel to have a quicker swing speed. Would there be a difference in the possibility of homeruns because the bat isn't end loaded? zig
Theoretically, the more mass you can put behind the ball the further it could travel, so an end loaded bat could have more of an advantage in that regard. However, it really depends on what the player is most comfortable with. If you are more comfortable with a lighter swinging bat like the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V, then the bat speed generated from the bat could help create the most power for you as a player.
Jason
Where is this bat made? Chris
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is made in China.
Cameron
Is this bat for a power hitter? zig
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a great option for any type of hitter. The balanced swing weight is great for a power hitter and the stiff one-piece design is good for a power hitter.
Jason
If my son is 175 lbs and 5'8", what size should he be swinging? steve
Based on your son's height and weight, we would suggest getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 33 inch model.

Carter
What size bat if I am 5'7 and 180 pounds? Bilky
Based on your height and weight I would recommend a 32"/29 ounce 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V).
Carter
What is the difference between the 2016 model and this? Billy
There haven't been many changes between the two other than cosmetics. The biggest difference is a slight improvement in balance due to some end cap tweaks.
Kyle J.
What is the difference between the 2016 model and this one? Billy
The main difference between the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2016 model, besides the cosmetics, is the grip tape. The 2017 model has a thicker grip tape to help reduce vibration from off-centered hits.
Cameron
Stuck between getting the new Velo and the Quatro. I am currently using a CAT 6 and before that used a CF5. I loved both bats so the alloy vs composite argument does not matter much to me. Which one should I get? cycs17
Both bats are very high quality and will perform well. This VELO is arguably our best alloy bat on the market right now for BBCOR.
Kyle J.
I'm 5'7" and 130 lbs. What bat size should I get? MK
Based upon your height and weight, I would suggest getting this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) in the 31" length as long as you can handle the 28 oz weight.
Ben
What wood bat profile would be close to this bat? dag34
Unfortunately, it is tough to compare a wood bat and an alloy or composite bat. However, a bat with a 271 turn model would be the most similar. I would suggest looking at 2016 Rawlings VELO -3 Guaranteed Ash Wood Baseball Bat: R271VG.
Jason
What is the name or brand of grip on this bat, and is it possible to buy. Looking for a replacement on my Velo. Jason
Unfortunately the grip on the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) is made by Rawlings and I do not know of them selling replacement grips individually from the bat.

Which is the best bat for a 13 year old, the Prime 917, the Rawlings Velo, or the Marruci Cat 7? joe
All of these bats are excellent performing options. If you prefer a composite bat, then the Prime 917 is the way to go. If you are looking for a well balanced aluminum/alloy model, then the 2017 Rawlings VELO and the 2017 Marucci Cat 7 would be what you want to look at.
Kyle J.
My son is 17 yo and is 5'6" and 135 lbs. He usually uses a 32" wood bat since he plays in a wood league. This year the team has a few tournaments using BBCOR bats. What size and model would you recommend? Will
Based on your player's height and weight, as well as him already using a 32" wood bat, I would suggest sticking with that 32" length. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is going to be very balanced, and will offer similar stiffness to a wood bat do to its one piece design.
Logan

Logan
Better bat between this and cat 7 limited edition. Either one better than the other? Also size recommendation for 5'6" 135 lbs. Will start high school ball next year. matt
The BBCOR bats are very similar to one another in performance because of the restrictions on the bat. As for recommendations for the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V I would suggest a 32'' 29 oz.
Max
I'm 4'10, 85 pounds, contact hitter. What size should I use? Evs

I'm 6'8 and I weigh about 170 pounds. What size bat should I use? Johnny Baseball
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 34" model of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
I'm 6'2" and I weigh about 170 pounds. What size bat should I use? Johnny Baseball
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
What size bat would you recomend for a player 6'1, 205 lbs? Jamie C
Based on that height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30 ounce 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V).
Carter
I'm a college freshman that's a contact hitter. I need a bat that goes through the zone quickly. Should I purchase the Rawlings VELO or the Louisville Slugger 517 Omaha? GOAT
Both of these bats will perform well for a contact hitter. They are both very well balanced aluminum models and will be very equal in terms of performance. Can't really go wrong with either one.
Kyle J.
Is there a difference between the hybrid Velo BBCOR and regular Velo? See some advertised as Hybrid. jose
Some of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V have been advertised as a hybrid, that is because of the composite end cap. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will be an all alloy bat besides that end cap.
Max
I am 13, 5'5" and 120 lbs. Which size bat bat should I get? kaegan
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Jason
I will he playing high school ball as a junior and looking for a balanced bat with good pop, good grip, large barrel size and good durability. Which bat fits that description better hen prime 918 or the Velo. Or do you have a better suggestion? Magic Mike
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will fit those needs very well.
Max
Does this bat require a break-in period and can it be used in cold weather? m12p
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V features an alloy design and does not require a break-in. It will be hot out of the wrapper. Ideally you do not want to use this bat or any bat in temperatures below about 55 degrees. The ball itself can become more dense in the colder weather and could possibly damage any composite or alloy bat.
Jason
My son is a soon to be 13 year old moving to BBCOR, 5'7" and 175 lbs - strong kid. What size would you recommend and is the VELO a good fit? Should I go more with end loaded? He's coming from a Techzilla 2.0 31". Jim J
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. This bat is a great bat for all types of hitters of all ages as the composite end cap leads to a very balanced swing weight feel. Typically, for a player who is of your player's height and weight a 33 inch BBCOR would be recommended but one will want to take into consideration age as well as weight of their current bat. With that being said, a 31 inch BBCOR would be a better fit. Of course one can always go to a 32 or 33 inch bat if the player can handle the increased weight without slowing down their bat speed.
Cameron
I'm 5'11" and 140, what size bat do you recommend? Danny Sheeler
Based on your height and weight, we recommend that you use a 32"/29 oz. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) would be a good bat based on this information.
Mick
What is the difference between this bat and the 2016 model? jagman
The main difference between the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2016 model, besides the cosmetics, is the grip tape. The 2017 model has a thicker grip tape to help reduce vibration from off-centered hits.
Carter
With all the rule changes, can my son use this in high school? jg17
High school bat rules are not changing, they will still require BBCOR bats, so the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will still be legal.
Logan
I am 5'9" and 150 lbs. What size bat would you recommend? Also, would you recommend this over the CAT 7? Alex Z
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a BBCOR bat in the 32" length as long as you can handle the 29 oz weight. As well, there are certainly players that will prefer to get this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) over the CAT 7. Both bats are great, but a lot of people like to get this VELO due to it feeling extra balanced.
Ben
Besides the price tag, what are the differences between the Rawlings Velo and the Rawlings 5150? I'm very torn between the two, and I am wondering which one you think is the better bat. dflem22
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a more well balanced bat than the 5150, and features a more durable, more responsive alloy than that of the 5150. With the 2017 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB75 being slightly more end loaded, some stronger, more powerful hitters like the weight distribution of that bat over the Velo.
Logan
I am in between a power and contact hitter. Would you recommend the 2017 Rawlings Velo or the 2017 Demarini Voodoo Insane? Kris
If you are in between, we recommend the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V), it will be slightly end loaded but not as much as the Voodoo Insane. If you want to try and become a power hitter, we recommend the Voodoo Insane as it is more end loaded.
Mick
I'm 5 foot 8, 135 pounds, should I get a 32 inch or 32.5 inch? I'm a freshman and might or might not be done growing. charles
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 32" 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Logan
What is the difference between the 2017 and the 2018 model? Mark DiTomas
There is not going to be much difference between the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2018 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB8V3. The main difference will be the cosmetic design of the bat.
Cameron
Is this bat USSSA baseball approved? parent
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is typically used at the High School and Collegiate level. I would recommend looking for the Rawlings Velo under our 'Youth Big Barre'l category online.
Dan
I am 5'10" 130 pounds. What size bat should I use? Also, what is a better overall bat (not including price) this or the CAT 7? Tommy
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 32 inch model. This bat is similar to the Marucci CAT 7 as both bats are one-piece alloy models featuring balanced swing weights. The VELO will feature a composite end cap which tends to give this bat more balance overall. If you compare the reviews of both bats you will see that consumers hold both in high regard and thus selecting either one would give both excellent performance as well as durability.
Cameron
Does the Velo feel significantly more balanced than the 5150 or are they around the same? Zach
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is going to be a more balanced bat than the Rawlings 5150 due to the Silver Comp Lite End Cap.
Carter
I think I narrowed down the choices to this Rawlings Velo and a 2016 Easton Mako (due to cost and extensive reviews). My player is an 8th grader, about 5'5" and 130 lbs. He was using a -8 and -5 last year. He said he's okay with a 32"/29 oz bat and has used MAKOs in the past. Any thoughts between the two? Mike
Based upon your player's height, weight and what he has swung in the past; I would recommend going with a BBCOR bat in in the 32"/29 oz size. Both bats are excellent options, however, this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) will probably be the most balanced bat available on the market. For a player that is moving into BBCOR bats, a VELO would be highly recommended.
Ben
Are these bats approved for pony league? fluffy
Pony league does allow the use of BBCOR baseball bats. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V would be approved for play in that league if you decide to swing it.
Dan
Does this bat have a tapered handle? Jack
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V does not feature a tapered handle.
Cameron
Okay, does not have a tapered handle. Just to make sure I am asking the right question, does the bat handle flare at the knob. My player prefers a bat that flares bigger/wider when the handle meets the knob. Thanks! Jack
In general, most BBCOR bats will feature a flare at the knob. The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V has an overall thicker handle and will also feature a flare right by the knob.
Dan
One of my teammates has this bat and I really like the grip and am wanting to buy a similar grip for my bat. What is the grip called? dinger dude
Unfortunately we do not have the specific name for the grip. I would advise you to contact Rawlings directly for that information.
Kyle J.
My son is a freshman and is 5'4" and weighs 130 lbs. He is a contact hitter. Would you recommend the '17 Velo or the '17 Cat 7? What length and weight do you recommend? Edwin
Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC7 are well balanced options, so either would work well for your player. Based on his height and weight, I would suggest a 31" 28 oz. size.
Logan
My son is 130 lbs and 5'10". He measures a 33" bat. Is this correct? What is the recommendation? He is just 14. mickey
Based on your son's height, weight and age a 32 inch model of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V would work the best.
Cameron
How does the 2017 Velo compare to the 2018 Velo? My son is a HS senior who is 6' tall and weighs 155. I'm assuming a 33" would be fine. Thank you Paddy
A 33" length should be fine for his height and weight. To be honest, not much has changed from the 2017 Rawlings VELO to the 2018 Rawlings VELO other than cosmetics.
Kyle J.
I'm 5"9 and 170 pounds. Should I get the 32" or 32.5"? gpapa
Given your specifications, I would recommend that you swing the 32" 29oz option of the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. However if you were looking to add a little more to the bat than that, then naturally the 32.5" option would be the route to go.
Tyler
I'm 5'11", 195 lbs, have average bat speed and struggle with the outside strike. Suggestions about bat size? craig
We would probably recommend a 33" length of bat for your size and weight.
Kyle J.
What's the difference between this bat and the 2018 Rawlings (BBRV3)? stumpy
This 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) and the 2016 VELO (BBRV3) will be the same bat except for the paint used for each bat. Both bats feature the same materials and technology.
Ben
I need a BBCOR bat for next season. I"m a 5"9" and 269 pound teenager. What size bat should I get? Eli
Based on your height, weight and age, we would recommend getting a 32 inch 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V.
Cameron
Are there any temperature limits on this bat? Up North
There are no temperature restrictions on the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. With that being said, this bat will hold up and perform better in warmer weather.
Cameron
My son is in his first year Pony League. He just turned 13 years old. We live in North Central IL. He is 5 ft 5 in tall and weighs 124.5 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? David B
Your player can swing either a BBCOR or USA certified bat in Pony League. I would recommend the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 31/28 or the 2018 Rawlings VELO -5 USA Baseball Bat: US8V5 in a 32/27 based off your players strength.
Dan
I have a son in 8th grade, thinking of getting him a high school bat and getting away from the big barrel. He is 6"2" and 240, what size do you recommend? dougie
We would recommend a 33" or 34" for his height and weight, depending on how close or far he stands from the plate.
Kyle J.
Just purchased this bat however above it states that it's legal for 50/70 little league and high school ball. My son is playing both. But if you check the approved bats list on the little league site, this Velo is not listed for 2018. Need to confirm that this bat is definitely approved for both levels. Thanks Eric
Yes, the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V would be legal in 50/70 Little League and high school baseball.
Carter
What bat do you recommend the 5150 or this bat for a 6 foot 185 pound person? christunas37
Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the Rawlings 5150 would work well for a player needing a BBCOR bat. For someone of your height and weight, a 33 inch model would work best. With the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V one will typically find a more balanced bat thanks in part to the composite end cap.
Cameron
I'm 5'7" tall and about 140 pounds. What size bat should I get? baseballco
We would probably recommend a 31" or 32" length for your height and weight in a BBCOR model.
Kyle J.
What is the most beneficial way to break in this bat? Live pitching, tee, soft toss? Hootie
The 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is a one-piece alloy bat and will not require any break-in period.
Tyler
I purchased this bat for my son and we live in upstate New York. So far we haven't had a spring, been very cold temps with the weather around 40 degrees. If he uses this bat in those cold temps will it damage it? Eric
There are no studies or recommendations that state bats cannot be used in specific temperatures, although we here at JustBats generally recommend 45-50 degrees as the cutoff to where you would want to use a practice bat if you could. Colder temperatures make the ball itself more dense, and that can be what puts more stress on the bat.
Kyle J.
What's the difference between the Solo 617 and the Rawlings Velo? dalyt2
There isn't much difference between the two bats, as both are one-piece, all alloy designs and both have a composite end cap to help with balance. The only main difference is the ping of the Rawlings VELO might be a bit louder than the Solo 617.
Kyle J.
If this bat was left in the garage for the winter does it hurt it at all especially since it was a brutal winter for cold? The ball doesn't seem to be popping off of it like it did last summer but then again the weather has been extremely cold here in Iowa this spring. Dan
Although leaving the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in the garage over the winter is not ideal, we would recommend leaving in a closet, this will not affect the bat assuming that when the bat is finally used the weather has warmed up. If leaving this bat in a cold garage and then taking it outside to use in cold weather then there will most likely be issues with both performance and durability. Before using in colder temperatures after leaving it in the garage all winter we would recommend warming the bat up.
Cameron
Would this bat or the 2017 Easton Z Core Hybrid be more balanced to have a faster swing? Troy
Both the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2017 Easton Z Core Hybrid are balanced bats. However, the Velo will be slightly more balanced.
Tori
What size would you recommend for a 5"7', 115 pound 14 year old to use? connor
Per the player's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V in a 30 inch model.
Cameron
What size and weight would be the best for a 5 foot 7 inch, 112 pound, 14 year old you use? conrad
For a player with those specifications, we would recommend a 30 or 31 inch bat. If he is playing high school baseball, he will be required to use a BBCOR certified bat like the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. All BBCOR bats are -3.
Daveron
Would you suggest the 2017 Velo BBCOR or the 2018 Easton Beast X speed to a 6' 180lb. player who swings a little bit more for power? Is there a difference in barrel size? MJ
The Beast X Speed is designed for contact hitters so I would recommend this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V to your player looking to swing for more power. Overall, both will have a similar barrel length and 2 5/8" barrel size as well.
Tyler
What size would you recommend for a 4"8'' and 90 lbs 11 year old? Ryan
Based on their height and weight, I would recommend a 30'' bat. He may still be a bit young for the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and I wouldn't recommend using a BBCOR bat yet unless it was required. You may want to look at -8 or -10 bats.
Tori
Son is moving to a BBCOR bat for middle school ball. He is 5'5" and weighs about 190. Powerful kid and currently swinging a Easton XL3 - 31" drop 5 end loaded bat. Looking for a recommendation on a good BBCOR bat for him and size. Hitting instructor believes staying with the 31" length would be good. He is 12 and will be facing 14 year old pitchers so he will be seeing much faster pitching then he has this past summer season in a 12u league. Since he will be able to go back to a drop 5 next summer if he wants, and at the rate he is growing a 31" will be too short we are looking for a good bat to get through the fall middle school season without breaking the bank. TJ
Given all of your information, this 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V would be an excellent option for your player in either 31" or 32". It is a very balanced bat and should provide a seamless transition for him going to a heavier option.
Tyler
Is their a 30-Day warranty and if I can return my bat? Parker Thomas
The Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V does not come with a 30 day trial period. We suggest when the bat arrives, take dry swings or even soft toss with tennis balls to test the bat and how it feels. Once the bat becomes used, we are no longer able to accept it for a refund nor exchange.
Daveron
This is my sons 2nd year using the 31" BBCOR bat. He has used it for batting practice hitting about a 100 balls a week for 4 months last year and then for high school ball and summer ball. How long before we need to replace it? Greg Lipe
It will be tough to say the exact time on when you would need to replace the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. One piece alloy, such as the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will perform fully until the bat has cracked and or dented. If you notice a significant drop in the performance of the bat is another way of determining if the bat needs to be replaced as well. One piece alloys, such as the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will perform for extended period of time compared to composite models in the BBCOR certification.
Max
What is the return policy on this bat if it is unused and still in the wrapper? Mike
If the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) has not been used and is in the original wrapper, it can be returned for a full refund or an exchange.
Taylor
I am debating between this bat and the Beast X Speed. I am smaller player. Which would be better and which has more pop? B
Both the Rawlings VELO and the Easton Beast X Speed are designed for the same type of player. Players who would consider themselves contact hitters or single/doubles type hitters who want good bat speed and control would find either of these options a good fit. Pop wise, both bats are nearly identical, since the BBCOR regulations are rather strict in terms of how much pop is even allowed. Honestly the biggest difference is that the VELO has a much louder ping, which some players tend to like.
Kyle J.
Are these new, unused bats? What's the shipping? Duane Anderson
All the bats we sell are new unless stated otherwise. If a used option is available, then that will show during the size selection and be offered at a reduced price. Our standard shipping option is free, and is a ground shipping option that is delivered within 5 business days, though typically 3-4 to most locations. We also have expedited shipping options available as well if you want to pay a little more and have it sooner.
Kyle J.
I just purchased the 2017 Rawlings velo, and my question is will the bat come shipped with the plastic wrapper on the barrel just like a brand new bat? Rudy
All new options of the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V will ship with the plastic covering of the barrel.
Daveron
What, if any, are the differences between the 2017 and 2018 model? Frank
The Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the 2018 VELO are essentially the same bat minus the colorway and the grip tape; both model year bats use the acoustic alloy.
Cameron
How loud is the ping? Christian
The Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V is constructed with Acoustic Alloy, making it the loudest alloy bat on the market.
Logan
What is the difference between the Velo BB7V and the Velo BB8V3? Trying to decide on a new bat for my son. James B.
The main differences between the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V and the Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB8V3 will be the color scheme and grip tape. Both model years feature the same acoustic alloy, composite end cap and precision laser pOp 2.0.
Cameron
I have used wood bats for most of my life and I need a metal bat for college. I am not sure what the regulations are and what is good. Any recommendations. Duncan
One must use a BBCOR bat in college, like the Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB7V. At the college level, there is a white barrel ban rule that was adopted in 2020. As for which bat to get, this, like using a wood bat, is more personal preference as there are not going to be BBCOR bats on the market hotter than others. If you have always used a wood bat in the past then we would recommend getting a one-piece alloy bat, the VELO would be one such option, as they will feel most similar to a wood bat.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
