What is the BPF on this model? coach
The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 has a 1.20 BPF.
Jason
Is this bat end loaded? Ritter
No, the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 is going to have a balanced swing weight.
Cooper
What is the difference between a balanced swing weight and end-loaded? Is one type of bat better for a specific type of batter? Cindy
An end-loaded bat will have more of the weight towards the end rather than distributed throughout the bat. The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 is going to be balanced, and preferred by contact hitters because it feels lighter. End-loaded bats are preferred by power-hitters.
Linsey
What is the difference with these numbers: FPXN171? I notice that there is FPXN170, FPXN171, etc. Is there a difference? Michele
The numbers that you are seeing at the end of the product heading will signify the drop of the bat. For example, the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 shows that this is a 2017 model (17) with a drop of 11 (1). The FPXN170 shows that this is a 2017 model with a drop of 10. Thus the only difference in the two bats will be the weight of bat at the same length.
Cameron
What's the possibility of the end cap raising? I have seen a lot of end caps raised. If I buy the bat from a seller online that is not you and say something happens to the bat can I return it to be fixed because it has a one year warranty on it? Softball Player
I'm not sure what you mean by the end cap raising, but if something should happen to the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 that would affect the performance of the bat, it would be covered under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
Logan
My daughter is a JR in high school. She's 5'3" and 190 lbs. What is the best effective weight and length of the 2017 and 2018 XENO bat that would be best for her? Big Man
We would recommend a 33" model. Weight really depends on the player. If she is a stronger player I would go with a 33/23. If she needs some help with bat speed I would go with a 33/22.
Damon
My daughter is 5'4" and 100 lbs. What size would you recommend? jim
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 in a 32''.
Tori
My daughter is 10 years old, 4'7" tall, weighs 85 pounds. We are looking for a new bat. She struggles some with swing speed but has a lot of power on connection. Any recommendations? Kati
Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 30" bat. The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 would be a great option, but if you are looking for a little more bat speed, the lighter swinging 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPLX171 would be one to look at as well.
Logan
My daughter is 11 years old and weighs about 65 lbs. She is a slap hitter. I'm looking for a new bat for her. I know this is a great bat, but was also looking at the 2018 Louisville Slugger X12 Fastpitch Softball Bat (WTLFPX218A12) because it is a -12. Which bat would you recommend, or is there another bat that you would recommend before these two? Mike
If your 11 year old is better off handling a lighter feeling -12 bat, then my suggestion would be to look to the X12. However, if she is ready for a -11 size of bat, then this 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN171) would certainly be a great option as well. I might recommend having her try out some teammates' bats to see the size (-12 or -11) with which she has the most control and then go after that size.
Ben
What is the difference between the Xeno FPXN171 and FPXN170? Jeff
The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 is a -11, and the FPXN170 is a -10. The only difference is that the -10 is one ounce heavier than the -11.
Logan
My daughter is 15 yrs old, 5'4 and 126 lb. She is a balance hitter. What weight should we buy? NATS
Based on your players height and weight it is suggested that she uses a 32" bat drop 10. The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN171) is a great bat. It is a drop 11 but should still be fine for your player.
Mick
My daughter is 14 years old, 5' 4", 129 lbs and is a power hitter. She has been out of softball for three years, but wants to try out for high school. Currently swinging her younger sister's CF8 (31-20) and nearly hitting the fence. What size and drop do you recommend? ed
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend this 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN171) in the 32" length as long as you feel she can handle the subsequent 21 oz weight. If getting a 21 oz bat is best for her to allow for most control of the bat, then this XENO should work well!
Ben
My daughter is 15, 5'2" and 110 lbs. She's currently using a 32" bat. She feels it's too short now. What size, weight and drop do you recommend? Do you think the 33" would be too big for her? Mel
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a fastpitch softball bat in the 32" length. However, if the 32" bat she currently uses feels small, a 33" bat should be fine for use. My general suggestion for a 15 year old would probably be to get a -10 size, but if you wanted a -11 that will be just fine. This 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN171) can be purchased in the 33"/22 oz size.
Ben
My daughter is 10 years old and is on the smaller size with her weight around 71 lbs. She has been using a -13 weight bat as it creates better contact hitting but lacks the pop she shows the ability to have. Do you think the 29/18 might be too much change in weight for her? Doing my research it seems like the XENO are nice bats. shields
The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 is an excellent option to review in the -11 length to weight ratio. This bat will certainly offer more power to a player's game when comparing it to a -13 type bat. The power your 10 year old player will generate with any bat will ultimately come down to her bat speed. As long as going up two ounces in weight does not significantly impact her bat speed then it would certainly be a good move to get the 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171. This bat will offer a balanced swing in a two-piece composite design making it a great fit for both contact and power hitters.
Cameron
Do the 2017 bats have the same manufacturer warranty as the 2018 bats? 1 year? Jenny
Yes, the 2018 and 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 feature a one year manufacturer's warranty.
Logan
Why is barrel on this bat kind of rough and not smooth like others? joe
The 2017 Louisville Slugger XENO Plus Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN171 features a grit blast finish. It won't alter the performance of the bat and will be approved for play in ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA, and ISF.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
