Description

The latest and greatest members of the BBCOR Power Brigade are here and ready to be unleashed.

Let's break down the newest hybrid design from Easton: the Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH. The barrel is composed of Easton's high-grade Hyperlite Matrix (HMX) alloy combined with the Z-CORE internal core technology to deliver the biggest sweet spot and longest aluminum BBCOR barrel in baseball. With that combination, you can expect a massive hitting surface, unmatched performance, and more ping in every swing! On the other end, the handle is made up of SIC black carbon composite material. Easton's SIC material strengthens the handle while eliminating any negative vibration for an optimized feel during every at bat. These two halves are combined with the patented two-piece ConneXion technology to maximize energy transfer, create more flex, and add more trampoline effect. In addition, the Z-CORE Hybrid features the second highest swing weight index in the BBCOR Power Brigade lineup for a slightly end loaded swing weight and more mass behind the ball at impact. Easton: The King of Ping!

This Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH features a -3 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the BBCOR certification making it legal for play at the high school and collegiate level. Furthermore, Easton is backing this model with a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Best Easton BBCOR bat this year NikoMaxim player

Pros: Yesterday I went to a Easton bat demo at a near by facility to try the new Easton bat line for 2017. For a BBCOR bat I thought the Hybrid had decent pop, but the biggest difference I felt was that it had a nice smooth feel on contact. The Z-CORE Speed and the Z-CORE Speed XL were ok bats. The Speed just didn't have that nice smooth feel like the Hybrid. I also believe the Speed didn't have as good of pop compared to the Hybrid.

Cons: None

Won out over others Batman parent

Pros: Selected this bat for purchase after trying out the DeMarinini Zen and Easton Beast (and others) at a bat demo day. Went with the intention of purchasing the Zen. Performance of this bat simply stood out from the others. Very balanced for greater bat speed, excellent pop, and a noticeably large sweet spot.

Cons: Not sure on durability.

Best Easton I've had! Connor Player

Pros: This Easton is really nice has a massive sweet spot big barrel. Has and awesome design very loud and crisp ping sound after you hit it good. Feels like nothing when you hit it hard and on the sweet spot. If you want a nice bat that will last I would recommend this bat 100% Im in high school and im consistently hitting 90's on the exit velocity.

Cons: Had to Change the grip because it will give you blisters.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this the same bat as the 2016 Z-Core Hybrid and the 2015 S2Z? jewel942
This 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) will be extremely similar to the 2016 Z-CORE HYBRID and 2015 S2Z (all bats have HMX alloy barrels and SIC Black Carbon handles). The 2016 and 2015 bats mention a balanced swing weight (while this bat says it is "slightly end-loaded"). Besides that, I think the biggest difference between all the bats will be the cosmetics.
Ben
How does this compare to the Rawlings VELO? jeff
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) and the 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V) are both going to feature aluminum barrels. Where these two will differ is going to be the Z-CORE Hybrid has a two piece design which is going to offer some flex and a composite handle while the Rawlings Velo is going to be a one piece bat. It will have a much stiffer feel, similar to a wood bat.
Carter
How is this compared to the Easton Z-Core Speed Limited? I am a power hitter, which is better? mike
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH is going to have more weight towards the end of the barrel and be more beneficial for a power hitter compared to the more balanced feeling 2017 Easton Z-CORE SPEED Limited Whiteout BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZSW.
Sean
My son is 5'9" and 165. What size bat is best and he is a contact hitter that can hit with power. Should I get a 1 or 2 piece bat end loaded or not? bbdad
Based on your sons height and weight and what you have said about him I would recommend the balanced 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) in the 32"/29 ounce version.
Carter
I am 5'8" 135 lbs. What size bat should I get? Nate
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model in the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH.
Jason
I am about 5'7", weight about 175. I'm a power hitter. I either hit 3,4 or 5 hole. I have the Louisville Slugger 716 now but want to go back to Easton but I don't know if the Z-CORE Hybrid or the Z-CORE XL will be better. Bales
If you liked the feel and had success with the 716, I would stick to that type of bat and go with the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH. If you are looking for something stiffer, with more mass in the barrel, I would go with the one piece, end loaded 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZX.
Logan
I asked a question earlier and you said to go with the Z-CORE Hybrid instead of the Z-CORE XL since I have the Louisville Slugger 716. I was look at the Marucci CAT 7 Connect and wonder which one is more end loaded and more durable? Bales
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH, as well as the other BBCOR models that have been mentioned, have all shown good marks with regards to durability. Of the three bats, the Z-CORE XL will have the greatest end-loaded swing weight feel (about 0.5 ounce difference). Both the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH and the Marucci CAT 7 Connect will have a similar swing weight feel to the LS 716.
Cameron
Are there any restrictions about using this in temperatures around 49-50? I've been told composite bats shouldn't be used in cold temps. Is the same true for alloy/this bat? Lin
Any bat, regardless of material, can be damaged and under-perform in colder temperatures below 55 degrees. We understand games have to be played in this type of weather, just try to limit the use of your bat, such as the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH, as much as possible in those temperatures.
Logan
I am about 5'6 110 pounds and mostly a contact hitter usually bat 1 or 2. What do you recommend? trey
I would recommend the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) in the 31"/28 ounce size for you.
Carter
I'm 6'3" 180 pounds, which bat would you recommend and what size? I hit for both contact and power and bat 2nd and 3rd. Zach
Based on your height and weight, I would suggest a 33" 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH.
Logan
I am 5'10" and 140 lbs. What size bat? sant
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
Is this bat better than the previous models like last year's Z-CORE Hybrids or the S2Z? D'Marko
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH features a longer barrel for a larger sweet spot than previous models, as well as a slightly end loaded feel as opposed to the balanced feel of previous models.
Logan
Is this bat better than the Z-Core Speed? black cat
This 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) is a different bat than the Z-Core Speed as this bat features a two-piece, hybrid design (alloy barrel and composite handle). The Z-Core Speed is a one-piece, all-alloy bat. JustBats customers have rated the bats pretty similarly (a little edge to the Speed). The decision on which bat a player prefers comes down to the preference they have for a build.
Ben
I'm looking for a BBCOR Easton bat. I only swing with 31" inch bats. I'm about 5'9" and weigh 135 lbs. Any recommendations/suggestions to what BBCOR Easton bat I should get? TheFlyingEagle
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH would be a great option for a BBCOR baseball bat. I would look at the 31'' 28 oz option.
Max
Is this bat approved for the new 2018 standards? Tanner Flahaven
Yes, the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) bat is BBCOR certified and is legal in high school and college level.
Mick
I am 5'3" and weigh 140 lbs; contact hitter. What size bat should I get? isaacalv
Based on your height and weight we would recommend getting the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
Does this bat meet the standards for the Cal Ripken league? Josh
No, the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) does not contain the USA stamp. The USA stamp is required for little league.
Mick
I'm 6'1'' and 140 lbs. What length do you recommend? Also is this the same as the z-core hybrid, except one has the TORQ handle? big guy
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH in a 33''. This is the same as the other Z-Core Hybrid except for the TORQ handle.
Tori
My son is 10 yrs old, 4'10'' and 105 lbs. What size bat should he use? kbul
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH is a bat designed for high school and college age players. We would not recommend this bat for a 10 year old. For a 10 year old, and based on his height and weight, we would recommend taking a look at the 2018 Easton Beast X Hybrid -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18BXH10 or the 2017 Easton S2 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17S210 in a 30 inch 20 ounce model. You can always go to a lighter bat if that is more beneficial for the player and would certainly recommend taking note of whether the league the player is in requires a USA or USSSA approved bat.
Cameron
Why don't you carry 31" BBCOR bats? CTC
We carry many different 31 inch BBCOR bats. The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH was made in a 31 inch model but we no longer have this size to sell. Since this bat is a closeout model from Easton we cannot restock in this size.
Cameron
I am 6'1" and 165 lbs. I hit mostly for contact. Looking for pop. What size bat do you recommend? kt
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZH) in the 33" size. This bat is reviewed extremely well, but I would make sure that you are ready for a bat with a bit of an end-loaded feel to it.
Ben
My grandson is a 6'3" 130 lb. 13 year old. He hits with power, but is moving up to Freshman baseball. Is a 32 inch or 33 inch BBCOR bat right for him? He was swinging a -10 MAKO last year. Bert
Based on his height, weight and age, we would recommend getting the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH in a 32 inch model.
Cameron
I'm 6"1 155 pounds and 14 years old. Last season I used the -3 Mako Beast in the 32"/29 oz size. It was a good bat but my friend had this bat in the 33"/30 oz size. I felt that when I hit with this bat I generally generated more power and I could feel myself drive the ball with this bat. Is there a reason for that (is this bat end-loaded and the beast is not, or is it because of the weight, or is it just the bat.) Anyways, I was thinking about buying this bat for high school, but I was also looking at the Marucci Cat 8. What bat in which size would you recommend? Also does the weather have an effect on the bat. I live in Ohio so during the high school season the weather could be 40 one day and 75 the next during the spring. Zack
The biggest reason you saw a performance difference is mostly likely just the heavier weight of the bat. If bat speed is equal, the heavier bat will always provide better power. Both this bat and the Marucci Cat 8 should be good performing models. Personally I might look at the Cat 8, simply because the Cat 7 was one of our best selling and best performing models. For cooler areas of the country, I would recommend getting an aluminum bat instead of a composite one, as they are generally more durable in cooler temperatures.
Kyle J.
Would you buy the cat 8 or this bat? z
It will depend on what you are looking for in a bat. The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH will be a hybrid model with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The benefit of this will be a decrease in vibrations felt on contact. The Cat 8 will be a one-piece alloy bat that will be stiffer on contact for maybe a slight overall increase in power.
Tyler
Is this bat and other BBCOR bats also allowed for USSSA 14U? Bill
Yes, the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH and other BBCOR bats can be used at the 14U USSSA level.
Cameron
What current 2018 or 2019 bat would be comparable to the 2016 HMX Z-CORE? Jarrad Ward
The 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH is a two-piece model while the 2016 Z-CORE was a one-piece alloy bat. Bats that are more comparable would be the 2019 Easton Project 3 Alpha BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB19AL and the 2018 Easton Z-CORE Lock & Load BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZLL.
