Description

New for The latest and greatest members of the Power Brigade are here and ready to be unleashed.

The Easton MAKO BEAST XL is the newest version of one of the most popular baseball bats in the industry and it now has the biggest and most powerful composite barrel that Easton has ever made. The difference between the MAKO BEAST and the MAKO BEAST XL is the fact that the XL offers an end loaded swing weight rather than your typical balanced design. An XL end load gears more weight towards the end of the barrel for a more powerful and higher performing baseball bat that allows the ball to fly further and further. By extending and combining the game's longest two-piece composite barrel with the game's fastest swing speed, this bat is an absolute BEAST that offers the lowest swing weight index out of the entire Easton lineup. A low swing weight index results in a model that delivers power through fast swing speeds. Easton's redesigned TCT Thermo Composite technology now provides an extended speed barrel design. So, the BEAST's barrel is longer than ever for more plate coverage and a huge sweet spot. This extended barrel is connected to a 29/32 inch composite handle by the patented two-piece ConneXion technology that maximizes energy transfer while eliminating sting for optimized feel and comfort. Adding to the specs is the fact that each MAKO BEAST XL comes wrapped with the formidable HYPERSKIN grip. Easton: Unleash The Beast!

This Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 features a -8 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the USSSA 1.15 BPF Certification. It is also backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty! Be the talk of the town and buy your own MAKO BEAST XL with a bigger, badder barrel today with fast, free shipping right here at JustBats.com! We're here for you from Click to Hit!

this the best bat out there Kyle Mauldin parent

Pros: The ball just jumps right off the bat and into the outfield but even if you roll over the ball is still hit hard and looks like it is all good. My son has this bat and he shot up from a 8 hole to the 3 hole. He is hitting home-runes to all corners of the field. He say that this bat has the best feel, pop, and as zero vibration when he makes contact with the ball.

Cons: Had it sense the week after it came out but still don't know the durability. but by the looks of it, it should be all good.

MAKO Beast XL Jack parent

Pros: The bat has excellent pop and the sound was so mean at contact that everyone in the cages at practice snapped their heads around. Living in the PNW hasn't given the opportunity to use it outside of cages yet, have indoor tournament in two weeks so we'll see then.

Cons: none so far

Mako Beast- Great bat for a great price Billy W parent

Pros: My son is 13 and we bought this bat as a backup bat to his Lousiville Slugger. He has only had it 2 weeks now and he hit outside on 300' fences for the first time last week and hit 7 home runs. i think his Louisville Slugger just became his backup bat.

Cons: Only had it a couple of weeks so cant speak to the durability yet.

Travel Baseball Dad Jim Dunphy parent

Pros: Superb feel with end loaded power. Two piece composite construction is wound up tight with terrific pop & sound. The CXN Stopper & huge sweet spot barrel will allow both contact and power hitters to benefit from its performance. Easton continues to set the Standard... The bat's official name (BEAST XL) is quite appropriate...

Cons: Everyone on the team wants to use it ...

Black Easton Beast XL Israel Nieto parent

Pros: The Ball just jumps off the bat has a great sweet spot. My son keeps hitting Home Runs and Doubles with it. You can see him on YouTube at Izzy Nieto watches Owen take one in the Ribs & then get Revenge. You can see how the bat sounds and how the ball jumps of the bat. He only uses it for game time.

Cons: Dont really have any.

Coach T. Adam Tucker parent

Pros: Great bat at the reduced price - as much pop as Demarini or Marucci bats in the dugout. No vibration or durability issues and top heavy construction swings like a drop 10.

Cons: Replaced the tape with lizard skin because the stock wrap is tacky and causes blisters. Easy fix.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat legal for 13 year old Babe Ruth? Merry
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) is NOT going to be legal in 13 year old Babe Ruth. This is because for a composite bat to be legal in 13 year Babe Ruth it would need to be BBCOR certified. This only applies to composite bats. With an aluminum bat you are able to use whatever size you would like.
Carter
My 13 yr old is transitioning from Little League to a high school prep squad. Question is, does he go to a -8 or -5 in the BEAST XL? He's 5'4" and was swinging a Mako XL TORQ -10 last season. Nick
It really just depends on what he can handle. If your son can handle a -5 at this point that would be the ideal transition to -3. However, if he cannot handle the -5 this year using one will offer him no advantage. It will only hurt his swing. I would recommend going to a batting cage and swinging both of them and seeing what he is more comfortable with.
Carter
What, if anything, is actually new in the 2017 Mako Beast compared to the 2016 Mako models besides the paint job? LVII
The biggest difference in the new 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) is the new Extended Speed Barrel, which is 1.5 Inches Longer than the 2016 MAKO.
Carter
I don't want to waste your time but will you have a cyber Monday sale on this baseball bat and is my 12 yr old son ready for a 24 oz? He is 5'7" and 136 lbs. HardcoreBaseballFan
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 32"/24oz 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8). This bat will not be on sale due to how new it is we will have to sell it at the Manufacturers Advertised Price.
Carter
My son is 5 foot 1, 90 lbs and can hit. We have the Mako 2016 for the past season looking to get him a new bat. What you recommend for him? He used a 30/19. Chris
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend getting a 31"/23oz 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8).
Carter
Does the MAKO BEAST XL have more pop than the 2016 MAKO? AT
The big difference between the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the 2016 model will be the 1.5 inch extended barrel that the 2017 model features. This means a larger sweet spot which can potentially produce more pop.
Cameron
What is the difference in the MAKO BEAST XL model and the regular MAKO BEAST model? Which model is better for a 5' tall, 90 lb 11 years old? nole
The main difference in the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 and the regular MAKO BEAST is the swing weight design. The MAKO XL models will feature an end-loaded swing weight design while the regular MAKOs feature a balanced weight design. For a stronger player with faster bat speed an end-loaded model typically is more beneficial as these bats will allow the player to generate greater barrel whip through the zone which can translate to additional power in the swing. A balanced bat like the regular MAKO is a better design for those players that are contact or gap to gap type hitters. For an 11 year old who is 5' and 90 lbs, we would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK10. The bat listed in the question (2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8) is better suited for a player in 7th grade.
Cameron
Does the 2017 version have a larger sweet spot than the 2016 version of the same bat? Tony
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 will have a slightly larger sweet spot compared to the 2016 model as this bat will have a slightly longer barrel (about 1.5 inches longer than the 2016 model).
Cameron
Since USSSA recently banned the 2017 CF Zen Balanced (-8) 2 5/8" Baseball Bat I am looking for a comparable bat for my son. How does this bat compare to the CF Zen? Also does the Mako Beast need break in time like typical Mako's and if so how many swings? Last question - what would you recommend a CF Zen drop 8 user switch to? Thanks... Jim in Chicago
The Mako Beast is arguably one of the closest bats to the CF Zen performance wise. It will require a similar break-in period since it is a composite bat just like the CF Zen. This Mako Beast is an excellent choice to look at, as well as other options like the Marucci Cat 7 or the Louisville Slugger Prime 917.
Kyle J.
Can you use this bat in 14u USSSA? or is -5 required? jt13
Yes, you can use the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) in 14U USSSA Baseball.
Carter
What is the average break in time for the Beast XL? Jacob
We suggest 150 to 200 swings off a tee or soft toss while rotating the bat in between swings to properly break in the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8.
Logan
My son is almost 13 years old. He is 5'1" and weighs 100 lbs (strong hitter). Which MAKO BEAST would be best suited for him the end loaded SL17MK8 or balanced bat SL17MK10B? Kallen
Based upon your player's age, I would definitely recommend looking to the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) since it has a -8 length-to-weight ratio. If he is a strong hitter, then I think he will able to adjust to a -8 length-to-weight ratio and end-loaded swing weight.
Ben
Will it be legal for 14 year old travel for the 2018 season next year and will the BBCOR version be legal for 14 year old travel ball? paul
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 will not be legal for use in 14U USSSA next year; they appear to be moving towards -5 models or BBCOR for this age group.
Cameron
I want to see if it is good. Annety Rubon
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 is a two-piece fully composite bat with an end-loaded swing weight. This bat is a great option for a power type hitter between the ages of 12-14 before getting into high school.
Cameron
Will this bat be legal for Little League in 2018? BB
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK) will not be legal for Little League in the 2018 season because it does not have the new USA stamp required for Little League.
Carter
Can this bat be used in USSSA 12U travel baseball in 2018? AT
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 is USSSA approved, and can be used for USSSA travel baseball in 2018.
Logan
Will this bat be legal for 2018 Senior League play? Darrell
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 will be legal for play in USSSA in 2018, but not Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie Youth, PONY, or AABC.
Logan
Is this bat not available in a drop 5? Randy Day
There was a -5 version of this 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) available in the past. However, we sold out of all of the 2017 MAKO BEAST XL (SL17MK5) that has the -5 length-to-weight ratio on it. That is the reason why you are having trouble finding it for purchase on our site.
Ben
Can I use this bat in high school baseball? john K
This 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) would not be permitted in high school play as it does not feature a BBCOR stamp on it.
Ben
My son is 6 foot 2, 155 lbs and can hit. We have the Mako 2016 for the past season looking to get him a new bat. What you recommend for him? He just turned 13. Rick
The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 would be a great option for a player that just turned 13 coming off of the Easton Mako.
Carter
My son is and 5"4' and weighs around 170 and he hits for power. Would you recommend this bat over a LS Prime 918? He is currently swinging a 32' -8 Marucci CAT 7 which has a balanced swing weight and we want to add a second bat to his arsenal. That or another bat choice you would recommend. TJ
I would recommend the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 if he is more of a power hitter since it is end loaded. The Louisville Slugger Prime 918 will be balanced and much closer to the Marucci CAT 7, so if you are looking for a different option the Easton MAKO BEAST XL would be a great choice.
Tori
Is this bat legal for Little League? mounchey
No, the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK8) is not approved for play in Little League for 2018. It does not feature the new USA Baseball stamp.
John
What is the barrel size? James

The 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL17MK8 is USSSA certified and at this time we do not have knowledge that the certification would change for the upcoming year. This option is not legal for league play (needing a USA stamp); however, should still be allowed in USSSA certified tournaments.
