Description

New from DeMarini for The DeMarini Voodoo series has been a constant in baseball bat bags across the nation since its release. This year, DeMarini has made it so that more players can use one of the top hybrid construction baseball bats on the market. They've taken the famous end loaded version that power hitters have come to love, now called the Voodoo Insane, and have added a balanced option, named the Voodoo. With the all new X14 alloy, this beast of a bat is hotter than ever. The X14 alloy has been upgraded for enhanced variable wall thickness which allows DeMarini to distribute the weight in different ways to provide more pop and two different feels. Additionally, it optimizes KSI yield strength for maximum performance day in and day out. As with other DeMarini bats, the D-Fusion 2.0 handle will allow you to get more boom out of every swing by redirecting negative vibration back into the barrel. On the other end, the low pro end cap optimizes the swing weight and provides the ultimate sound and feel through the barrel during every at bat. DeMarini: Power Of Choice!

This DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: WTDXVIC features a -3 length to weight ratio, a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter, and the BBCOR certification for high school and collegiate play. Furthermore, this baseball bat comes with an extended barrel and an end loaded swing weight for more power. Lastly, it is backed by a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR A BBCOR littleleaguepop parent

Pros: I purchased this bat along with the 2017 composite Easton Mako Beast BBCOR, that my son could have the choice of Alloy or Composite (weather a factor sometimes). My son has taken LOTS of BP with both bats and can assure you, that this DeMarini Voodoo Insane holds its own 100% with the fully composite Easton Mako Beast (at $100 less). When he gets a-hold of one, the Demarini launches the ball farther than the Easton by about 20ft. When you hear people say that this is a power-hitters bat, believe it. It takes a strong, big kid, with quick bat-speed to move this thing around. To reiterate, it is a heavy swinging bat (like the 2013-14 Easton XL1's of old), however, in the BBCOR sphere - NOTHING drives the ball harder, or further than this Demarini, which is THE REAL BEAST!!

Cons: Nothing - if the bat is a good fit. It is a HEAVY swinging, end-loaded monster meant for one thing - smoking baseballs! I cannot stress enough, if your son is not a big strong, quick swinging kid, this is not the right bat for you. Being a big, strong kid is not enough, he will need the bat-speed to match or this bat will not be able to be used to its full potential. If he CAN however, get this bat around, there is not a pitcher on the mound that will not wipe the sweat from his brow when your son arrives to the plate with this ball-crushing monster.

Good Bat gGreg parent

Pros: Bat has great pop, doesnt feel as end loaded at the previous years but has a bigger sweet spot. Seems to ge holding its paint better than previous editions.

Cons: Tiny handle, but my son has big hands. He really did not like the handle so I had to replace with a lizard skin.

nice bat Eric parent

Pros: Real nice bat. very end loaded. this is a bat for a really strong player. unless you are jacked and used to swinging an end loaded bat either start working out or choose the balanced model. if you are strong you will be able to knock the crap out of the ball. this was the closest swing weight we could find to a maple AP5 -2 drop that we could find. that is what my son usually swings and this bat feels pretty similar.

Cons: none for us

It's Fine Anonymous parent

Pros: It's a good bat for high school with amazing pop for a BBCOR bat.

Cons: The grip sucks and you need to be cautious with how you use the bat or else the pop will run out in a year and if you're like me, I like my bats to last longer since my son gets swings in every day.

Great bat Nathaniel Leffler player

Pros: I used this bat my senior year of high school. Unlike most bbcor bats this bat kept its pop all season. I am now playing baseball in college and I still use this bat for batting practice and scrimmages and even after being used for almost a year and a half it still has great pop. This bat also helped with my bat speed

Cons: Have to get used to the flexing of the handle

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I am 5'11" and 145 pounds. What size do you recommend? Daniel Klepp
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC.
Jason
Is it full composite? bob
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC will feature an alloy barrel with a composite handle.
Cameron
Is this bat more end-loaded than the 2016 Voodoo Raw or is it the same? swrhoads
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC will have a very similar end loaded feel to the 2016 DeMarini Voodoo RAW Senior League Baseball Bat: DXVDR.
Sean
I am 5'8" and 170 pounds and I currently swing a 33" bat. What size should I swing? How will switching to that size help me? tank
Based on your height and weight we would recommend swinging a 32"/29oz. With that being said if you feel comfortable with the 33"/30oz that you are currently swinging there is no reason to switch. That is just a recommendation.
Carter
Which bat is more end loaded: the Voodoo Insane or the CF Insane? twards
Both the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC and CF Insane will feature the same end load. However, with the Voodoo Insane having an alloy barrel, it may tend to feel heavier than the CF Insane.
Marcus
Is this bat similar to the Vexxum? Mitch
Since the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is an end loaded bat and the Vexxum was a balanced bat, these bats will not be similar in that regard. This will be most similar to the Voodoo models of the past.
Marcus
I am 6 foot and 180 pounds. What length and weight should I swing? I am a freshman. michaelb
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" 29 oz model in the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC.
Jason
I am a 5 foot 11.6 foot 250 pound senior. Is this bat good for me and what length should I get? Ja'Quon
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30oz 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC).
Carter
Would a 34 be too heavy? Ja'Quon
We would have to know your height and weight to give a recommendation on the size of the bat that you should use.
Carter
Do you think this new DeMarini or the new Rawlings is better? Ja'Quon
This 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) should receive very similar reviews to the solid Voodoo bats released in past years. If you were to compare this Voodoo Insane to the very popular 2017 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB7V), I think that both bats will be great in regard to customer reviews. However, the builds of the 2 bats will be different. This Voodoo Insane will be a hybrid bat (alloy barrel and composite handle) with an end-loaded swing weight. The VELO will be different as it is basically a one-piece, all-alloy bat with a balanced swing weight.
Ben
What is the difference between a Voodoo Insane and Raw? boog
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC features new X14 alloy in the barrel compared to X12 alloy. This new alloy provides for enhanced variable wall thickness.
Jason
I'm in the market for an end-loaded bat, and I was wondering what BBCOR bats feature an end-loaded design? It doesn't have to be a 2017 bat, it can be an older model. spencer
Some of the various end loaded models are the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane (DXVIC), the 2016 Easton MAKO XL (BB16MKL), the 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL (BB17ZX), 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX XL (BB16ZAL), and the 2017 DeMarini CF Insane (DXCIC).
Kyle J.
My son is 6'4" and 205 lbs. Would a 34" be the correct size? Jeff
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting this 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) in the 34" length as long as you feel that you can handle the end-loaded 31 oz weight of the bat.
Ben
What is the difference between this and the Louisville Slugger prime 917? patty
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is a two-piece bat with an alloy barrel and a composite handle, it will also feature an end loaded swing weight, the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is a three-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight.
Sean
Is this bat the 2017 version of the 2016 Voodoo Raw? Jonny Baseball10
Yes, the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is the 2017 version of the Voodoo Raw.
Jason
Does this bat or the Zen have more pop? balln
Both the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) and the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXCBC) are going to be be very high quality bats. I would go with the VooDoo Insane if you are more of a power hitter due to the end loaded design and the CF Zen is you are a contact hitter.
Carter
What is the difference between the Voodoo Insane and Voodoo? bobby
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC and the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVBC are basically the same bat, but the Voodoo Insane is more end loaded while the Voodoo is more balanced.
Linsey
What wood bat model/turning style does this bat compare best to? doyle
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC has an end loaded swing weight, and while it is hard to compare a BBCOR bat to a wood bat, a 243 turn model would be the most similar.
Jason
My son has always used an end-loaded bat. He is 14 and 5'10" and 210 lbs. What size bat is recommended? Sean
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 33" model in the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC.
Jason
I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs. Does this bat offer the same amount of end-load as the 2015 Voodoo OVERLORD? Baseball71
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting a BBCOR bat in the 32" length unless you feel completely confident that you can handle the 30 oz weight of a 33" BBCOR bat. This 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) should feature the same end-load as what was featured on the Voodoo OVERLORD and Voodoo RAW bats from years past.
Ben
Reading other questions and answers you recommend a balanced bat for contact hitters. In your opinion would you go with the Insane or the Zen? adill3
You are correct, we would suggest the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC if you are more of a power hitter due to it being more end loaded, and the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXCBC if you are more of a contact, gap to gap hitter due to its more balanced design.
Logan
I'm a sophomore in high school and play 90+ games a year including high school and summer ball. I bought the Voodoo Raw last year and loved it, should I upgrade to the new model for this year or will my bat from last year have another year left in it? jacob1
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) is definitely a great bat. But with that being said, if you have not noticed a decline in performance I would stick with your Voodoo Raw. It is a good bat too and until you see diminishing performance in that I would wait to upgrade.
Carter
I'm looking for a bat with power and I'm very indecisive between the Rawlings VELO and the Voodoo Insane. I see colleges all over the country using both and everyone says bat speed is the main factor but in terms of power which bat has more pop? matthew
Power a player can generate will always be determined by the amount of bat speed that a player can generate in correlation to the amount of velocity supplied by the pitcher. With BBCOR bats being highly regulated it is tough for one bat to significantly out perform the others meaning power will truly be earned where as in the past with BESR bats even average bat speed hitter were able to put up power numbers. With that said, there can be some additional power gained by using a end-loaded bat like the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC if the player is squaring up the ball properly. With more weight in the sweet spot of the bat a player can generate more whip though the zone with the barrel head. This of course assumes that the player's swing path is not altered by the different in swing weight design of an end-loaded bat compared to that of a balanced bat like the Rawlings VELO.
Cameron
I'm 5'8" and 145 pounds. I use a MAKO TORQ now to help with bat speed. What difference would I see in bat speed by changing to the Insane? DM
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC will feature an end-loaded swing weight design while the MAKO TORQ will be balanced. The difference in bat speed, if you were to switch from one to the other, would be minimal. An end-loaded bat tends to feel heavier to most that are use to a balanced bat and would take some time to adjust to. If seeking assistance with bat speed it would be prudent to remain with balanced options.
Cameron
I am a power hitter. I'm 5'10" and 150 lbs and I'm wondering what size I should order? joe
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend getting this 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) in the 32"/29 oz size.
Ben
I am a senior in high school and I'm 6' and about 180 lbs. Should I get a more end-loaded bat or a more balanced bat? dannyd23
If you feel that you can handle an end-loaded bat, then you can certainly go ahead and get one. At your height and weight, I think there is a solid chance that you could handle a bat like this 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) that features an end-load. I would recommend looking at the 33" size of this bat.
Ben
Would you say this bat is similar to the Marucci Buster Posey edition model (in regard to being end-loaded)? Brenden
This 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) and the Buster Posey Bat (Posey POSEY28 Whitewash Adult) will be similar bats in regard to both of them featuring a barrel loaded swing weight.
Ben
Would this bat compare closely to the 2014 Demarini Overlord? I previously owned it and wanted to buy this year's model that is the closest resemblance to that bat. Would it be the Voodoo or the Voodoo Insane? Jared
The 2014 DeMarini Overlord was an end-loaded model, so the Voodoo Insane would be a good comparison as it is also an end-loaded model.
Kyle J.
I'm a senior in high school, 6'4" and 190 lbs. I like the end-loaded and will be playing D3 college. Is a 34" ok ? jack
Based on your height and weight, we would suggest the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC in that 34" size you mentioned there.
Logan
I am a 175 lbs, 5'10.5" freshman. Can I use a 33" bat? m
Based on your height and weight we would recommend a 33"/30 ounce 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC).
Carter
I am 5'10'' and 170 pounds and would there be a big difference for me in terms of end load if I have been swinging the Louisville Prime 915? Sam
You would be able to feel the difference going from a balanced Prime 915 to the end loaded 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC, as it's going to feel heavier than the listed weight.
Logan
What is the break in on the DeMarini Voodoo Insane? Rene
The Voodoo Insane (DXVIC) has an alloy barrel and as such will be ready to go right out of the wrapper. No break-in should be required.
Kyle J.
I am a high school freshmen, 5'8" and 130 lbs. I currently hit very well with an old 32" voodoo overlord bat. Does this bat compare to the overlord or do you recommend another bat for me? TiTi
The new 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC will compare favorable to your previous Voodoo Overlord bat. Both of these bats feature the hybrid design with the alloy barrel, composite handle as well as the end-loaded swing weight feel. The main difference between the two bats is the new X14 alloy that is being used in the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC. This alloy should make the bat more durable.
Cameron
My son is an 18 year senior in high school. He is 6'2" and 220 lbs. He takes 12,000 swings a year. He is having a hard time with breaking bats. Any suggestions? Tom
For a player that is taking that many reps over the course of a year it would be beneficial to have a bat designated for game reps and another for practice. If the player plans on continuing into college it may not be a bad idea to have some wood bats for practice. Reasoning behind this is if a player can learn to hit well with wood then swinging a metal bat will make the player stand out above the rest.
Cameron
I currently am a college baseball player and use the red Voodoo Overlord FT. I love this bat, but sadly they don't make them anymore. I used this bat and felt that it is a lot more end-loaded then the old Voodoo. Are they trying to make this more end-loaded then usual? Would the Voodoo Balanced be closer to the 2015 Voodoo Overlord ft? JOhn
This 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) will certainly feature a full end-load to it and that end-load will feel a bit heavier than what the Voodoos have featured in the past. The Voodoo Balanced would probably feel a lighter in the end-load when compared to your 2015 Voodoo Overlord FT. Unfortunately, there is not currently a Voodoo BBCOR being produced by DeMarini that will match up exactly in its end-load feel to the 2015 Voodoo Overlord FT you have had in the past.
Ben
I'm wondering if it would be better to get the Voodoo Insane or the Cf Zen. I am 5"6', 125 lbs and a freshmen in high school. My coaches say I have really good bat speed, and I use the CF8. I believe I am ready to change to an end-loaded bat, but I am asking what you think? Homerun God
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a 31" or 32" BBCOR bat. I would probably tell you to stick with a balanced swinging a Voodoo BBCOR if this is the first time you are using BBCOR bats, but if you are certain you can handle an end-load, this 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) would be a solid bat. I would just be certain that you feel you can handle the 32"/29 oz size with the end-load (32" is the smallest size in which this DXVIC is made).
Ben
I have a 16 yr old, 220 lb high school player that the coaches suggest he swing an end loaded bat. He currently swings a Rawlings 5150. What are your recommendations on this DeMarini bat? Natalie
A stronger player typically can generate more power from an end loaded bat like the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC. This is due to how the weight is distributed in the barrel of the bat. Essentially an end loaded bat will have more mass in the sweet spot (smaller sweet spot though), which will help create more barrel whip and when squared up correctly - more pop! For the player's height and weight, we would recommend getting either a 33 or 34 inch bat.
Cameron
My 8th grader is 5'10" / 175 lbs. Already swinging a 5150 and the other day he used his buddy's Z-CORE XL 33/30 not missing a beat. Would this bat be comparable to the Z-CORE XL with regards to how heavy it feels when it's being used? NOEL
Yes, the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) will be similar to the 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZX) in the weight. But it will be different in design as the Voodoo features a two piece design while the Z-CORE XL has a one piece design.
Carter
Is this the balanced model or the end loaded model? Mike
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is an end loaded model.
Logan
Is this bat USSSA approved? francie
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) is approved for play in USSSA.
John
I am 6'2", and about 160 pounds. Should I swing a DeMarini Voodoo Insane or a DeMarini CF Insane? I'm going into high school this year. big_papa
Both the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC and the CF Insane will be end load and a good choice for a power hitter. The biggest difference is that the Voodoo Insane is a hybrid, so it has an alloy barrel and composite handle. The CF Insane is a two-piece hybrid.
Tori
I am 6'1" and 210 pounds, currently am a senior in high school, and swing a 34" 2013 Rawlings 5150. Would I be able to swing a 34" version of this Voodoo? Or should I move down to a 33.5 because of the end load? Carlos
Based on your height and weight, you should be able to swing a 34" 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC.
Sean
My son is 5'7" and 172 lbs. He is very solid for an 8th grader going into high school. He has a very hard and fast swing, his is using a Rawlings 5150, 31" -3 bat. Does this bat (DeMarini Voodoo Insane) come in a 31"? What are your thoughts? Alex
Unfortunately, the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC does not come in a 31" length. However, based on your players height and weight, a 32" model would be the suggested size. He should be able to swing the 32" if he is swinging the 5150 fine.
Jason
I am 5'9" and 180 pounds. What bat do you think is right for me? abomd
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" bat. The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is a great option to go with if you are a power hitter. The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVBC is a really good option to consider if you are more of a contact hitter.
Jason
I am 5'7" and 130 pounds. What bat do you think is the best for me? Dom
I would recommend the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVIC) in the 32"/29 ounce.
Carter
What is the difference in the two different Voodoo's? drewe
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC features an end loaded swing weight and is typically better for power hitters. The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVBC is a balanced bat and is typically better for a contact hitter.
Jason
How does this bat compare to the Voodoo Raw? TB1
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC features new X14 alloy in the barrel compared to X12 alloy. This new alloy provides for enhanced variable wall thickness.
Sean
Which bat is better the Voodoo Insane or the Marucci Cat 7? I want the hottest bat out, what would you recommend? caleb
Both the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC and the Cat 7 are very high performing bats. It is tough to say one is better than the other and it really depends on what type of hitter to determine which one will work better for you. The Cat 7 is a balanced bat and is generally a better option for a contact hitter. The Voodoo Insane is an end loaded bat and is generally better for a power hitter.
Jason
I'm curious about how this bat compares with other BBCOR bats when it comes to power and ball carry distance. Basically, what bat will help me hit bombs? Raymond
If you are able to handle the added swing weight of an end loaded bat, such as the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC, the added mass in the barrel will result in more distance on the ball.
Logan
Is this bat similar to the DeMarini Voodoo Raw? Chuck
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC would be the newer model of the DeMarini Voodoo Raw.
Logan
I'm 5'10" 160 lbs with decent bat speed mostly hit for contact but when I square up a ball I have good power. Do I need the balanced or Insane and what size? MicKeY
I would suggest the 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC in a 33''.
Max
How does this bat compare to the DeMarini Voodoo Overlord BBCOR 2015? jake
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC is basically the newest model of the DeMarini Voodoo OVERLORD FT BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVDC.
Logan
When will the 2018 version of this bat be released? Bringer of Rain
We're anticipating a late summer release for the DeMarini 2018 models, probably sometime in August or September.
Kyle J.
What's the big difference between a 32" and a 32.5?" proway
The .5 ounce and inch difference from a 32" to a 32.5" 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC isn't much to most players. The half unit increments allow a player caught between a 32" and a 33" to get that in-between size.
Logan
What is the difference between the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR Baseball Bat and this one? proway 23
The 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC features a two-piece hybrid design with an end loaded swing weight. The CF Zen features a two-piece fully composite design with a balanced swing weight.

I just received this bat today and finished playing a game with it. About halfway into the game, I noticed two reasonably sized ripples right around the small word "Voodoo" on the barrel. I can also feel the ripples when I run my hand up the barrel while wearing batting gloves. Is this a defect that I should be concerned about? Will
The ripples felt on the barrel of the Voodoo bats from DeMarini (including this 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Baseball Bat: DXVIC) have been pretty standard for a few years now. That ripple feature will not be a detractor in regard to the performance allowed off the bat.

I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm roughly 220-230 5"10. I hit for power most of the time but I can hit for contact sometimes. Do you suggest me using a end loaded or balanced bat? bobo
It's more of player preference but I tend to see more power hitters swinging an end loaded bat.
Dan
I'm a sophomore in high school and about 5"9-5"10 220-230 pounds. What bat should I use, balanced or end loaded? Also, what size? tj
The option to use a balanced bat or end loaded is bat is your judgement call. If you can handle the extra weight, go for it. If you cannot, i suggest staying with a balanced bat. We suggest using a 33" bat with the height and weight provided. If you choose to go to 32 or 34", that is fine as well. We do not suggest going down to a 31" bat, that can cause durability problems.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
