Good Bat Mike coach

Pros: This bat feels good. Definitely more end loaded than some of the longer barrel bats. Doesn't seem to have the spring effect that the Combat does but overall feels nice

Cons: I don't think this bat has the pop of some of the Combat or DeMarini bats

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Do you have this bat in a 33 inch? Does high school league approve of this bat? Jerry
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP9168) is not approved for high school play. It is a Senior League or "Youth Big Barrel" model that is intended for players younger than high school age. All bats used for high school play have to be BBCOR certified and would be a -3 length to weight ratio. This bat is much lighter. The model you would want to look a for a high school player is the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163)

I live in an area where the weather is inconsistent and could get pretty cold. Should I buy this bat or is it too risky (because the bat might crack)? Tom
If you plan on playing in colder weather on a consistent basis (under 70 degrees with composite bats like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168) it would make more sense to go with an alloy bat as these will hold up better from a durability standpoint.

What is the difference between the 2017 BBCOR LS Prime 916 and 917? Mark
The main difference between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168 and the 2017 Louisville Slugger Prime 917 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9173 is the New Improved TRU3 with Dynamic Socket Connection, which offers Increased Durability and Superior Feel on Contact.

What is the difference between the SLP9160 (-10) and the SLP9168 (-8) other than the weight? Jimmy
The only difference between this 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLP9168) and the SLP9160 will be the differing length-to-weight ratios on the bats. All other specifications of the two bats will be the same.

Can I get this in a 2 1/4" barrel diameter? baseball_freak26
Unfortunately we are all out of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Youth Baseball Bat: YBP9162, which is the 2 1/4" Barrel version of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168.
Carter
Is this bat a BBCOR bat? Ed
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168 is a senior league baseball bat, not a BBCOR baseball bat. You would be looking for the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163. Unfortunately we are all out of stock of those. The 2017 version of that will be coming out sometime in August as of right now.

In general are LS -8 composite bats lighter than Easton -8 composite bats? What's considered the lightest -8 composite bat on the market today? djromer
No Louisville Sluggers balanced bats and Easton's balanced bats are going to feel relatively similar. One of them are not going to weigh more or less than the other. Both companies make extremely balanced bats. The only exception to this rule is Easton has some "XL" bats that are going to feature an end load. Those bats, while weighing the same, are going to feel a little bit more heavy due to more weight being at the top end of the bat.

Can you use this bat for the Intermediate division of Little League 50/70? holly
Unfortunately, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 Senior League Baseball Bat: SLP9168 is not legal for play in the Intermediate division of Little League. All composite barrel bats, like the Prime 916, need to be BBCOR certified. The SLP9168 model is not BBCOR certified.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
