Pros: This bat has great pop. I was swinging a mako before this bat and honestly this bat beats out the mako. The feel and look of the bat is amazing. You won't find a better bat for the price.

Cons: There is some vibration when hit off of the end of the ba, but that can be expected from any 1 peice alloy bat.

2016 Louisville slugger Omaha 516 Baseballer coach

Pros: Very dense feel like its solid. This is an end loaded bat for players who need that weight at the end of their bat. This typically causes a power hitter to use their larger muscles to swing the bat. if you are able to get the barrel around and square up on the baseball especially a drop -3 bat....Forgetta bout it. Aluminium bats are typically more stiffer and don't have any flex or wip like hybrids or one piece composits. This ideally is what you want to drive the ball.

Cons: The price of $200 is up their but certainly not like those $400 over priced bats.

The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA are both great bats to consider in the one-piece alloy market. Which bat would be better is going to be more of a personal preference choice as both are balanced bats.

What's better the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha or the Marucci Cat 6? Bree-z
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC614) are great options. They are very similar by design so the preference would ultimately come down to brand or style preference rather than one bat simply being better than the other.
Patrick
I'm 6'1" and weigh 157. What bat length and weight should I get? Also, If I'm looking to swing for more power this season would you recommend the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 or the DeMarini CF7? Mattyice

If you are looking to add more power to your game, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 would be a better option than the DeMarini CF7 as the one-piece design will allow for a stiffer feel than the two-piece design of the CF7.
Cameron
My son is 12 years old in 6th grade and is trying out for his middle school team. He is 5'7" and 145 lbs. He swings a Combat 31" drop 8 oz bat now. What -3 oz bat size does he need that is not too big of a jump? Donnie
Based on your son's height and weight, we would typically recommend going with a 32 inch 29 ounce 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163. Based on the current bat he is using though going with a 31 inch 29 ounce model will be an easier transition for him. A balanced weighted bat like the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 would also be beneficial as he adjusts to the new BBCOR bats.
Cameron
My son is 5'10", 145 lbs and in 8th grade. Down to LS 516 vs CAT 6. Likes a balanced bat. Which one do you recommend and what size? Gator
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 in a 32 inch 29 ounce model. With that said, both will feature similar performance capabilities so it boils down to personal preference on which one to go with.
Cameron
I am a contact hitter and prefer a balanced bat. Would you recommend the Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 or the DeMarini Vexxum NVS? LP
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOr Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the 2016 DeMarini Vexxum NVS BBCOR Baseball Bat (DXVXC) are well balanced bats. The biggest difference will be that the Omaha 516 is a one-piece alloy model and the Vexxum NVS is a two-piece model with a composite handle and alloy barrel which will help cut down on vibration.
Damon
My son is 5'4" 130 lbs. Would you recommend the LS Omaha 516 or the 2016 Easton Mako? And what size? Mike
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 30 inch 27 ounce model or a 31 inch 28 ounce model (depending on how you would rate his current bat speed). With that said, both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK are both great bats to consider. The LS Omaha will feature a one-piece balanced swing weight that will feature an alloy barrel. The MAKO on the other hand will be a two-piece, fully composite design that will also feature a balanced swing weight. The price points on these two bats will be on different ends of the spectrum but both perform similarly for you.
Cameron

My son is 5'11" and 162 lbs. He has a 31 and 32 inch bat but wants a new one. He swings both well, but I am wondering if I should get him the 31 inch or the 32 inch? Does the longer and heavier bat give an advantage if he can swing it? Does the lighter bat potentially give him more bat speed? Dlatlip
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163. The more mass you can put behind the ball the further it should travel. Bat speed is the most important thing though, so if you feel that the 32" slows his bat speed down then the 31" model would be the best option.
Jason
What is the difference between this bat, the 716 and 916? Does it have less pop because it is alloy and not composite? Pros/Cons? Baseball Dad
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) will be a single-piece, all-alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. The Select 716 will be a hybrid bat (alloy barrel and composite handle) with a slightly-end-loaded swing weight. Lastly, the Prime 916 is a two-piece, all-composite bat with a balanced swing weight. Neither bat is inherently better than the other bat, the biggest thing for deciding on an option will be getting the bat that fits your preferences as a player.
Ben
What is the coldest temperature the bat can be used? We are in the mountain district and deal with cold temps up to and during the start of the season. I currently have my son use his wood bat if temp is below 60 degrees. Dave
Here at JustBats, we do not recommend using the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
John P.
I am 5'10" and 135 lbs. What size should I get? Is this be a good bat for a power hitter? Razzor
We would recommend a 32" for a player with your height and weight. If you prefer a balanced design the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat BBO5163 would be a great option for you.
John
What's the difference between the BB05163 and the Louisville Slugger Assault BBAS14-RR? Hitman
The Assault was the 2014 version of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163. Louisville Slugger changed the name of the Omaha to the Assult for one year (2014) and then went back to it starting in 2015.
Marcus
I have the Louisville Slugger Raid and it's the best bat I have ever swung. Which bat do you think is most comparable to it? james
If you preferred the Louisville Slugger Raid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRD14-RR then the bat you will want to get today is the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163. Both of these bats will be a three-piece bat construction with AC21 alloy.
Cameron
Is the one-piece 516 better than the three-piece 716? les
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the Select 716 have both received pretty comparable, positive reviews so far from customers at JustBats. When deciding between these bats, you'll want to decide if you prefer the single-piece, balanced feel of the Omaha 516 or the hybrid build (alloy barrel and composite handle) of the Select 716.
Ben

Is this bat balanced? levels_16
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is a one-piece alloy design with a balanced swing weight.
Cameron
I want a bat that is light and can carry the ball far. Which bat should I get? I am 5'9" and 135 pounds. Ron Metcalf
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163.
John P.
My son is 5' tall and weighs 85 lbs. He is 12 years old and will be trying out for B-Team next year. B-Team is the first level of high school ball. We are trying to get him prepared for the heavier bats. What bat size would you select for him and would any of these bats be allowed in USSSA play this year? Coconut
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 29" model in the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163. It is best to check with league officials or a coach to make sure that this BBCOR bat would be legal for play in USSSA. Typically, BBCOR bats are going to be allowed, because BBCOR standards are stricter than USSSA standards.
Jason
I'm 5'11 and 180 lbs. What length of bat should I get? mr ltrain
For a player of your size, I would recommend going with a 33" model of the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163.
Marcus
My son is 5'2" & weighs around 115 lbs. - 30" or 31"? indycrutch
Based on your son's height and weight, I would recommend that he swing a 31" bat. That would be a 31" 28 oz. size in this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat" BBO5163 model.
Nick
I have been swinging a 33" 30 oz DeMarini Vexxum and I was wondering if that bat was similar to this one? Jacob
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is a one-piece fully alloy design while the DeMarini Vexxum is a two-piece hybrid design that will feature an alloy barrel and a composite handle. Both models will feature a balanced swing weight so they will be similar in that sense.
John P.
My son is 5'11" and 150 pounds. What size bat should he use? shaz
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 32" 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163.
John P.
I'm 5'4" and 195 pounds. I swing a 31/28 EXOGRID and I'm looking for a new bat. Would you prefer the Marucci CAT 6 or the Omaha 516? AJ L
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Marucci CAT 6 BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBC614 are excellent, high-quality, one-piece alloy bats. There really is no bad choice between these two options. This particular Omaha 516 features a 30-Day Performance Promise which means you are actually able to use the bat for up to 30 days from the purchase date and if for any reason you are not satisfied you may return it for a full refund or exchange.
John P.
Would this bat or the VELO be a better choice for a contact hitter that can hit with power? Ryan Baseball
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the VELO will both be excellent options of bats for contact hitters who display power on occasion (both are very balanced). I might recommend going with this Omaha 516 as it will carry a full 30 day trial period that would allow you purchase the bat and decide if you like it or not. If you decided that you wanted to send this bat back within 30 days of the purchase date, you could do so for a full refund or exchange.
bEN
Which bat do you prefer between the Marucci Elite, Marucci CAT 6, and the Louisville Slugger 516? Which bat is the most balanced and has the most pop? AJ Baseball
All three models are going to feature a balanced swing weight and are highly reviewed in the pop category. I would not say that one is going to offer a competitive advantage over the other as they are all excellent, high-quality baseball bats. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 features the new 7U1 Alloy which is said to create the lightest Omaha ever.
John P.
Does this bat swing like the ExoGrid 3? Adrian L
The bat that will compare most similarly to the ExoGrid 3 from the 2016 release from Louisville Slugger is the Select 716. The reason I say the Select 716 over this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) is because the ExoGrid 3 had composite inserts on the handle (and all-alloy barrel) and the 716 has a fully composite handle and alloy barrel. That being said, some players find the 716 to be slightly end-loaded while ExoGrid 3 was pretty balanced (balanced feel of the ExoGrid 3 would match closest with this Omaha 516). Overall, I would compare the Select 716 and ExoGrid 3 most closely.
Ben
I'm a line drive, gap to gap hitter but like a little power behind the bat itself. Would you suggest the 516, 716, or 916? kyle lav
If you're looking for a little power then I would probably lean towards the 2016 Louisville Slugger Select 716 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBS7163 as that bat will feature a slight end loaded swing weight. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBP9163 will both feature a balanced swing weight.
John P.
I'm 5'6" and 130 pounds switching from a 32" Rawlings VELO. I hit gap to gap and line drives & usually bat in the 1 or 3 spot. Would this bat be a good fit? kyle baseball
This would absolutely be a good fit. Based upon your height and weight, I would actually recommend using a 31" 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163.
John P.
What bat would you recommend? This or the Marucci CAT 6? I'm 5'5", 130 lbs and a contact hitter. The Big Stick
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Marucci CAT 6 are both excellent options for a contact hitter. They are both one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. One will not necessarily be better than the other for your style of hitting. Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 31" model.
Jason
Trying to decide between this LS Omaha 516 and the 2016 Rawlings 5150. I'm 6'5 and more of a power hitter so I'll be using 34''. I've been a Louisville Slugger guy forever. Noahsq
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the 2016 Rawlings 5150 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBR53 are great one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. With that said, the LS 516 seems to be more balanced than the 5150. The LS 516 also comes with a 30 day guarantee, so if you were not happy with the way it was performing you could always return it for another bat.
Cameron
I'm a 5'7", 120 lbs and a contact hitter. I'm trying to decide between the Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) or 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA). What would you recommend? CJ
Based upon your height and weight, we would recommend going with a BBCOR .50 bat in the 31" length. Both of the bats being considered are single-piece, all-alloy bats and they are balanced in their swing weight. My suggestion would be to get this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) as it will have a 30 day trial period on it honored by JustBats.
Ben
Which option from Louisville Slugger might be better for a deep line drive hitter: the Omaha 516 or the 2014 Assault? Noahsq
When comparing this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the 2014 Assault, I would not say that one option will absolutely be the go-to option for a hitter of your description. Both bats get reviewed well and come with a single-piece, all-alloy build. I think I would recommend getting the model that can be purchased at the best value and in the size you need for use.
Ben
Can you tell me the difference between this bat and the 2016 Rawlings Velo BBCOR Baseball Bat BBRV3 which I also like. In your opinion is the Rawlings worth paying $100 more for? Kevin
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the 2016 Rawlings Velo are both going to be one-piece alloy bats. Both are going to be balanced and designed with the contact hitter in mind. Both bats are excellent options, but the Velo might be a little more comfortable to use and might provide a little better pop.
Jake
I am 14 years old, 6'0", and 155 lbs. What size Omaha would you recommend? DingerDerby
Based upon your height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting a BBCOR bat in the 33" length. As long as you feel you can handle the 30 oz weight of the 33" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163), I would recommend that size option of this bat.
Ben
I'm going into high school this year and I'm 5'5" and weigh about 130 pounds. I want to know what bat would fit me and which bat has the pop for a power hitter. joshua
A 31" 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) would be an excellent bat for you as you get into high school ball.
Jake
My 13 year old son is 5' 7" and 130 lbs. Which bat size would you recommend? Tom
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 in a 31 inch 28 ounce bat.
Cameron
Need a bat for my son entering high school in the fall. He's 6'2" and 210. What size would you recommend? We were thinking 34". CK
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 in a 33 inch or 34 inch model; it really comes down to what he feels most comfortable with.
Cameron
My son is 14 years old, about to turn 15. He is 5'6" and weighs about 156 pounds. He plays high school and travel ball. What size bat should he use? Tyler1911
For your son's height and weight we recommend a 32" length. For his age and level of play we recommend a 29 oz. weight.
Angelique
My son is a 12-year-old; not too strong. What bat do you recommend? Cole
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is meant for high school and college baseball players. Based on the age of your son, we would recommend either a Youth Barrel bat (if needing a barrel with a 2 1/4" barrel diameter) or a Youth Big Barrel/Senior League Baseball Bat (common length to weight ratio would be -10). For a player that is not too strong it would be beneficial to get a bat with a balanced swing weight. For the correct options to consider would recommend chatting in or giving us a call at 866.321.2287
Cameron
Which bat is overall better: Omaha 516 or Prime 916? jason
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) will come with a single-piece, all-alloy design and balanced swing weight. The Prime 916 will be a two-piece, all-composite bat with a balanced swing weight. Both bats are pretty highly rated. I would make a decision based upon the design you prefer the most.
Ben
I'm a 17 year old beast who's 6'0 and 220 and I'm looking for a bat to provide me more power. I would consider myself an almost exclusive pull hitter with a vigorous swing like Juan Uribe. Would you recommend this bat or a camouflage Cat 6? Sean H.
The camouflage Marucci bat that we sell is actually the Marucci Black OPS BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBRTBK. Both the Marucci Black OPS BBCOR Baseball Bat: MCBRTBK and 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 feature balanced swing weight, which is not typically preferred by power hitters. However, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 features a one piece design, which is typically preferred by power hitters due to the stiffness in the bat during the swing.
Nick
I am a 5'10", 135 lbs, 15 year old balanced hitter. Would you recommend this bat or the Rawlings VELO? sfbball
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting a balanced bat, like the Rawlings VELO or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163, in a 32 inch 29 ounce model. Both of these bats are one-piece alloy designs and as for which one is better that is really more of personal preference. Both bats have received positive reviews from customers but the VELO is typically considered more balanced.
Cameron
Which one is better in your opinion: the 515 or the 516 BBCOR Omaha? Troutisthebomb
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) will feature new 7U1 Alloy. Louisville Slugger is saying that the new alloy makes this Omaha 516 the lightest swinging Omaha bat that has been released. Because of that alloy update, I am saying that this Omaha 516 will be the better option in my opinion.
Ben
How long does it take to "break in?" JT 9
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is a one-piece aluminum design and will not require a break-in period.

Cameron
Which is better, the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR or the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516? baller
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA are great bats to consider. Both are one-piece alloy bats that will feature a balanced swing weight. As for which one is better, both of these bats will feature similar performance and durability grades so it really comes down to personal preference.
Cameron
I'm in 7th grade, 13 years old, and 110 lbs. I'm looking for a BBCOR bat and I have narrowed it down to the Easton Z-CORE HMX and the Omaha 516. Which one would you recommend? Kent Murphy
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA are extremely similar. They both have a one-piece aluminum construction and have almost the same features. Since they are priced the same, the deciding factors are going to be your personal preference of manufacturer and cosmetics.
Angelique
What does 516 mean? slinger1
The 516 stands for the 5 generation of the Omaha BBCOR and the model year (16).
Cameron
I'm 5'9" and about 170 lbs. Would you recommend a 33" or a 32" bat? jenstrapp2

John P.
Does this bat have fast bat speed, a large sweet spot and good trampoline effect? baseball
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) will be outfitted with a balanced swing weight (which results in a fast swing speed), a decent barrel length (allows a bigger sweet spot) and it is rated well at JustBats in regard to performance (customer's feel the ball jumps off the bat well). Overall, I think all the features you need in a bat will be featured in this BBO5163.
Ben
Is this a good bat for my first year of high school? nolta
This 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) has BBCOR .50 certification which will make it legal for use in High School. As long as we have the size that you are needing, I would say that it is a great model for you to get as you begin your high school career.
Ben
I'm having trouble picking a bat. It's between the 2016 Louisville slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR and the Easton Z-CORE HMX TORQ BBCOR. What should I get? Jake
I would recommend getting this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163). The reviews have been very solid so far on the bat and the Omaha series has a very good reputation year-in and year-out. I would only recommend looking at the Z-CORE HMX TORQ if you are specifically interested in swinging a bat that features the 360 degree rotating handle technology.
Ben
I'm 5'6" and around 160 lbs. What bat size would you recommend? BaseBALLER
Based upon your height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting a 32" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) . As long as you feel you can handle the 29 oz weight of the 32" option of bat, I would recommend that size.
Ben
I am a very balanced and lead off type hitter. I'm looking for a evenly balanced bat with good pop. I'm trying to decide whether the Rawlings Velo or the Louisville Slugger 516 would be better for me. Which do you think? Willthethrill
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Rawlings VELO are one-piece alloy designed bats with balanced swing weights. With this said, both bats would be great options for someone that is more of a contact type hitter; would give a slight edge to the VELO in terms of overall balance.
Cameron
Would the VELO or the 516 be more balanced? Also which one would have a longer sweet spot? Timmy
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and 2016 Rawlings VELO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBRV3 are both going to be extremely balanced. The sweet spot is going to be very similar on both bats. I wouldn't say that one bat is going to have a larger sweet spot than the other honestly.
Nick
There has to be some differences that makes the 516 better than the 2016 VELO. Can you state these? Timmy
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 features the new 7U1 Alloy which is said to create the lightest Omaha bat ever. Plus, it features a 30 day performance guarantee where you are able to actually use the bat for up to 30 days from the purchase date and if for any reason you are not satisfied you may return it for a full refund or exchange.
John P.

Yes, the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat BBO5163 features a 12 month manufacturers warranty.
John
Is there a comparable MLB Prime wood bat (i.e. similar balanced weighting)? Martin
I believe that the balanced weighting featured on this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) would compare similarly to any MLB Prime bat that features a 271 or 110 turning model.
Ben
Which is a more balanced bat? This one or the Rawlings 5150? Jason
Both the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Rawlings 5150 will feature a well balanced swing weight. This Omaha 516 features the new 7U1 alloy which creates the lightest Omaha bat ever.
John P.
What is the difference between this bat and the 916? I'm looking for a new bat for high school. krishhk123
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the LS Prime 916 are very different in design. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 will be a one-piece fully alloy bat with a balanced swing weight. It will not require a break-in period (will be hot out of the wrapper), will be more prone to denting, holds up better in colder weather, will sting the hands more when a ball is hit off the end or towards the hands, will flex less on impact and will make a distinctive "ping" sound on contact. The LS Prime 916 is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight. This bat will be more prone to cracking, requires a break-in period of roughly 50 pitches, doesn't hold up as well in weather under 70 degress, will flex some on impact, will reduce vibration from off-centered hits and sound more like a wood bat on contact. Both are great bats and will offer similar pop capabilities.
Cameron
Is this bat composite or aluminum? kaden
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is fully aluminum.
Jason
What's the diference between this bat and the Easton Z-CORE? kadenq
Both bats are going to feature a one-piece fully alloy construction with the balanced swing weight. The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 is produced by Louisville Slugger and will feature the 7U1 Alloy, in addition to the red, black, and neon yellow cosmetics. The 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16ZA will feature the HMX alloy with the black and neon green cosmetics. Both bats will also feature minor differences, such as grips and technology used in constructing the bat.
Nick
I am 5'10" 150 pounds and I am a power hitter looking for a bat for high school. I am more of a power bat. What are the differences between this bat, the 916 and VELO? jack bsu
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Rawlings VELO are both one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. The LS Prime 916 on the other hand is a two-piece fully composite bat with a balanced swing weight. All three bats would be good options to consider for a power type hitter. Typically, the one-piece bats will be stiffer on impact and can possibly offer a little more power while the two-piece bats will flex more and do a better job of reducing vibration from off-centered hits. In warmer weather, the composite bats have a tendency to be a little hotter.
Cameron
Is the Omaha 516 or Select 716 a better bat for a power hitter? mooseavi
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 has a balanced swing weight and it is typically a better option for a contact hitter. The Select 716 has a slightly end loaded swing weight and it is typically a better option for a power hitter.
Jason
Are there any major differences between this bat and the Cat 6? kemp
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Marucci Cat 6 are both one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. These bats will feature different alloy materials and slightly different balance points (Cat 6 may be slightly more end-loaded) but both have shown excellent performance and durability.
Cameron
What is the difference between an all alloy bat and an all composite bat? Also, which type of bat would you prefer? apk
An aluminum bat is hollow, has the traditional "ping" noise, and is generally cheaper than composite material. A composite bat has a similar feel and sound to a wood bat and is typically the most expensive type of bat. They have about the same level of performance and durability. One is not necessarily better than the other so the decision is primarily based off of personal preference.
Angelique
Who determines the condition of the used bats? Derek
If we were to sell a "used" option of this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163), the rating of the condition of the bat would be determined as "excellent" or "good". As well, we have a returns team that is able to make the rating for whether or not the bat can be sold and if it is in "excellent" or "good" used condition.
Ben
Which bat is more balanced and has a bigger sweet-spot or more pop, the 516 or the Easton Z-CORE Speed? kaden
The 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the Easton Z-CORE Speed are both one-piece alloy bats with balanced swing weights. The difference in the sweet spot and balance are going to be very similar and any differences would be minimal; it really would come down to personal preference.

It is more a personal preference. Aluminum or composite is not going to have an inherited advantage over the other.

Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a BBCOR .50 bat in the 32" length as long as you feel that you can handle the resulting 29 oz weight. If you were looking to get the most balanced model between this 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBO5163) and the Select 716, I would recommend going for this Omaha 516. The single-piece, all-alloy design of this bat makes it slightly more balanced in its swing weight when compared to the Select 716 with a two-piece, hybrid design (alloy barrel and composite handle).

My son loves the 516. Is the 517 more end loaded than the 516? I'm just trying to make sure if the balance is the same then I will go with the new 517. Hec
The balanced between the 2016 Louisville Slugger Omaha 516 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO5163 and the new 2017 Louisville Slugger Omaha 517 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BBO517 should be very similar. The main difference between the two bats is the new 7U1+ alloy that will be featured in LS's 2017 model - this will create a larger sweet spot which should translate into a more balanced bat (how much so would be the sole discretion of the player that has used both).

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
