What size is recommended for a 5"3, 110 lb 7th grader? Also, how does this bat differ from the 2017 model?

Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 in a 31" 26 ounce size. There really isn't much difference between the 2016 and 2017 model other than paint scheme.

My son is 12 and wants a big barrel bat. Can my son play with one of the Senior League Baseball bats in his Youth League?

As long as your player's league allows use of bats with a 2 5/8" barrel and the USSSA 1.15 stamp, then a bat like this 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) [Senior League and Youth Big Barrel are essentially interchangeable terms]. That being said, I would first recommend checking and making sure that he will enjoy using the -5 length-to-weight ratio that is featured on this Easton XL3 before making the purchase.

What is the primary difference between this model and the same bat that is a Mako?

This 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) differs from the MAKO because it is a one-piece bat with an all-alloy build. The MAKO is a two-piece bat with an all composite build. However, the 2016 MAKO XL (SL16MK5) and this bat will both feature a similar end-loaded feel.

The 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 features a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty. Even though the parent company that owns Easton has been experiencing some financial issues the Easton brand will not be affected.

Is this bat a drop 3?

No, the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 is a -5. If you need a -3, you will need to look at the BBCOR bats.

My kid is a 7th grader that is 5'7" and weighs 110 lbs. Do you recommend this bat in -5 for him (he has a 32"/24 oz right now)?

Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting this 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) in the same 32" length (as his current bat), as long as he can handle the subsequent 27 oz weight (and the end-loaded swing weight). As a 7th grader, I think that moving to a -5 bat is smart so that you can prepare to use the BBCOR (-3) bats that are required in high school.

The 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 meets all of the bat requirements for the Little League Intermediate (50/70) division, and therefore is legal for play.

My son is moving up to the Juniors division and he has been using bats with a long barrel for the past few years (Combat Grifter, Easton XL1) and is looking for a 2 5/8 big barrel bat with a long barrel, which models would you recommend? He is 12 yrs old, 5 foot 4 and 175 lbs.

I would recommend checking out the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) if you were looking to get an end loaded aluminum bat. If you would rather have a balanced composite option I would go ahead and check out the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST Senior League Baseball Bat (SL17MK10).

End cap on my son's XL3 broke into pieces after he hit a ball on the edge of the barrel and end cap. There is no other structural damage to the barrel, its just the end cap. Can the end cap be purchased or replaced or does the entire bat need to be returned to Easton?

This bat would have to be sent back to Easton for replacement as retailers will not carry any of the parts that comprise the bat(s).

My son is 13 years old, 5' feet tall and 115 pounds (13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth). What size of this bat would you recommend (he previously swung a 31"/19 oz bat)?

Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a 30" model of a Youth Big Barrel/Senior League baseball bat. It may be a bit of an adjustment, but if you feel that your player can handle the end-loaded 25 oz weight of the 30" option of this 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35), then I would recommend getting this bat in the size option.

The difference between the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 and the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X38 is the drop (or weight) of the bat. The 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X38 is a drop 8 while the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 is a drop 5. Both bats are exactly the same in every respect except for the length to weight ratio.

Is this bat legal for Junior Babe Ruth?

Unfortunately, I was not able to determine the exact division of Babe Ruth baseball to which you were referring. If you were referring the 13-15 year old division, then yes, this 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) will be legal for use.

My son is 11 yo and pretty strong for his age. He's 4'9 and weighs 90 lbs. He used a 28 in Louisville Slugger Assault last year and loved it. We know he needs to move up in size, however would like to know your recommendations. Looking for a comparable alternative to the assault?

Based upon your player's height and weight, we would recommend going with a 30" model of Youth Big Barrel/Senior league bat. This 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16X35) will be a single-piece, all-alloy bat like the Assault; but be end-loaded in its swing weight (the Assault was balanced). As well, this specific XL3 model has a -5 length-to-weight ratio. For an 11 year old player I would be more likely recommend a bat that has a -8 length-to-weight ratio like the SL16X38 model.

How does the 2016 Easton XL3 differ from the 2015 XL3? Paint job only? Material difference?

The 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35 is going to feature an extra-long barrel design that expands the hitting zone and HYPERSKIN Grip while the 2015 Easton XL3 will not. You are correct in saying the cosmetics are different but they will feature the same Hyperlite Matrix Alloy that is said to create an expanded sweet spot and greater durability.
