Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat end loaded? RJ
By design, the 2016 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) is a balanced bat. However, players transitioning from a lighter weight bat to this may feel that the bat seems to feel end-loaded. Those experienced with an actually end-loaded -8 would not.
Patrick
Will this bat be approved for 13-15 Babe Ruth? Does it have a BBCOR rating? John
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) is not legal for play in the 13-15 Division of Babe Ruth. The bat is fully composite and features the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. It is not a -3 and it does not feature the BBCOR certification stamp that would make it legal.
Jason
Is there any difference between this bat and The 2016 Easton MAKO Big Barrel (SL16MK10) other than -8 vs. -10? Didn't know if the XL designation had any other significance. Eddie
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is going to be a -8 and have an end-loaded weight distribution while the 2016 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK10 is going to be a -10 and feature a balanced swing weight. Those are going to be the two main differences between the two baseball bats.
John
What is the difference between the 2015 XL1 Senior League bat and this one, the Mako XL senior league? PBJ
The differences between the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 and the Easton XL1 Senior League -8 Baseball Bat: SL15X18 will be the following: MAKO XL will feature TCT Thermo Composite Technology compared to IMX Advanced with the XL1 and the MAKO will have a Hyperskin grip while the XL1 will have a performance diamond grip. Other than that, both bats will feature the end-loaded swing weight with the two-piece technology.
Cameron
Does the MAKO XL Senior League -8 have a break-in period? If so, what is it? mike s
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is pretty hot out of the wrapper and does not really require a break-in period. It is still typically best to take about 50-100 swings off a tee though.
Jason
I'm 11 years old, 5 feet tall, and 102 pounds. What size bat should I buy and what weight? Jackson
For your height and weight we recommend a 30" length bat. For your age we recommend a -8 length to weight ratio which would be 22 oz.
Angelique
My son just turned 13 and is 5' 6", 128 lbs. We need a -8 bat. I'm thinking of getting the 31"/23 oz size. What do you recommend? RVR
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a 32" model of a Youth Big Barrel/Senior League baseball bat. However, if you guys feel more comfortable with a 31"/23 oz option of a bat, I think that size will be fine. This 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) is available in that 31"/23 oz size and has a bit of an end-loaded swing weight. As long as you feel that your player can handle that end-loaded 23 oz weight, I think a 31" model will be excellent for you.
Ben
Should I get the S3, XL3, Mako XL, Or Mako? I am 12 and 5'1, 77 pounds. I need a 30 or 31 inch bat and preferably 22-20 oz. Matthew S
All of the options you have listed are good options. If you want an end loaded bat I would I would go with the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat or the 2016 Easton XL3 Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16X35. If you like a more balanced swing weight I would go with the 2016 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat or the 2016 Easton S3 Senior League Baseball Bat. Both S3 models are aluminum and both Makos are going to be composite. What material you want is going to be completely your preference.
Carter
Is this bat legal in Dixie boys 14U? Errol L
Unfortunately, the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is not legal for play in Dixie 14U. All composite barrel bats must be BBCOR certified and the SL16MK8 does not feature the BBCOR certification.
Jason
Is this bat approved for 13 year old Pony baseball? big daddy
For Pony baseball (Pony and Colt leagues) the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 would not be approved as these two divisions require BBCOR certified bats that will feature a length-to-weight ratio of -3.
Cameron
Why is this bat not on the banned Pony bat list? mike
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is not on the banned list as it meets the criteria needed for use as outlined by Pony Baseball and its governing bodies.
Cameron
My son is 12 yrs old, 5'2" and 115 lbs. Would you suggest 31 inch 23 ounce or 30 inch 22 ounce? Or do you believe the CF8 or 2017 CF Zen, in the same weights, would be a better choice? Kling
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 31 inch model. As for the weight, if your son is entering 7th grade, we would recommend getting a drop 8 bat (23 ounces) to help prepare for the BBCOR era in high school. As for the bat to select, the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is an end-loaded bat which would be a great bat for a power type hitter. If the player is more of a contact type, then a balanced bat would probably be better such as the Easton MAKO (XL always means end-loaded with Easton bats).
Cameron
Why is the 30" $20 more than the 31" and 32"? Mark
Different sizes of bats are purchased at different cost points. Due to these different cost points bats will be listed at various prices to help meet profit margin goals.
Cameron
I'm 5'7" and 180 lbs. Would you recommend a 31" bat or bigger? SNICKERZ
Based on your height and weight I would recommend a 32" 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8).
Jake
I'm 5'7" and 120 pounds. What size bat should I use? Sebastián
For your height and weight, we recommend a 32" bat length.
Angelique
My son is 12 yrs old, 5'2" and weighs 100 lbs. Would you recommend 31" bat for him? Brad
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of looking to this 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) in the 31" length as long as you feel that you can handle the 23 oz weight of that length option.
Ben
I am 5' and 100 lbs. What size would you recommend? big papi
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 30" model in the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8.
Jason
My son is 5'7, 130 lbs. What do you recommend? Justin
We would recommend getting the 32"/24oz 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8).
Carter
My son is 5'4 115 lbs. What size would you recommend? Glen
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 31"/23oz 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8).
Carter
I am 5'2" and 105 pounds. What size should I get? kyle2274
Based on your height and weight we would recommend getting a 31"/23 ounce 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8).
Carter
I ordered the 2016 Easton TORQ (31" 23 oz.) for my son. He loves the feel of the bat, especially the weight distribution vs. some other bats that feel end loaded, but he doesn't like the TORQ handle. Would this bat have the same weight distribution as the TORQ or is it end loaded like some other composite bats? dcl23
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is end-loaded, unfortunately.
Logan
My son is 13 5/7 and ways 100 lbs. He has very long arms. I feel like this is such a stupid question. What is the difference between a youth bat and a senior bat with same length and drop? Gunther
A youth bat features a 2 1/4" barrel diameter, whereas a senior league bat, such as the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8, features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Logan
Is this certified for Babe Ruth 13-15? Sluggersam
To my knowledge, this 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) will not be legal for use in the 13-15 year old division of Babe Ruth Baseball as it does not have BBCOR certification.
Ben
Is this bat okay for 50/70? lotsofbats
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 would not be legal for Intermediate (50/70) play as the barrel is composite. Only BBCOR certified bats are legal when the barrel is composite.
Cameron
When you hit the ball does the bat make a pinging noise or is it clean and a nice pop? curious
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) is a composite bat so it is going to have more of a thumping sound rather than the "ping" sound of an aluminum bat.
Carter
What is the difference between the Mako Xl and the regular Mako? Also, would a drop 8 32 inch be too heavy for this bat? BigHitter
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 is end loaded, whereas the Easton Mako is balanced. Without knowing what size of bat your player has swung most recently, I'm not sure if this bat would be too heavy for your player.
Logan
Will this bat comply with the new little leagues rules coming out for the 2018 Season? lvstorm
Leagues playing under USA standards will require a bat with the USABat stamp. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 does not feature this stamp, only the USSSA thumb print stamp. Bats that will comply with the USABat standard will be available in September of this year.
Logan
Hi. My son is 5' 5" at about 110lbs. He's going to be 13 yrs old in a few months. Being this is an end loaded bat. Does it make the bat heavier ? What size will be good for him ? Alex
The end loaded swing weight of the 2016 Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 does make it heavier to swing since more of the overall mass of the bat is shifted toward the barrel to provide more power for stronger players who can handle the added swing weight. Based on your player's height and weight, I would suggest a 31" bat.
Logan
My son is 4'8" and 64 lbs in the Pony league. What size do you recommend for him? Why would you need a set of bats? jo
Based on your son's height and weight we would recommend a 29"/19 ounce bat for him. The 2018 Easton Ghost X -10 USA Baseball Bat: YBB18GX10 would be a good option. He would not necessarily need a set of bats.
Carter
My son is 13 years old. Weighs 108 lbs and is 5' tall. He is currently using a 31" MAKO. What would you recommend for this bat? KM
Based upon your player's height, weight and size of bat recently used; I would recommend using a 31" or 32" bat with a -8 length-to-weight ratio. I think this Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8) would certainly be a bat to consider as long as the end-loaded feel on this bat is something he can handle.
Ben
My son is 5'5" 120 pounds, 13 years old and muscular. What size bat do you recommend for him? ant
Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend a 31"/23 ounce Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8.
Carter
My 12 year old son is 5'3 and about 90 lbs. What size bat should I get him? coleslaw
Based on your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting the 31"/23 oz size Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat (SL16MK8).
Taylor
My son is 13 years old. 5'9" and 220 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? Thanks. Chris
Based off the information you have provided, I would recommend swinging a 32 inch bat with a -5 drop weight. The Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK8 features a -8 drop weight so I would recommend looking at the Easton MAKO XL Senior League Baseball Bat: SL16MK5 with a -5 drop weight. The only difference in these two bats will be 3 ounces in weight.
Dan
My son is 5'2 and 125lbs. His coach has recommended he get a 31 in. Is this bat going to be too light for him? Amber
This -8 bat would be fine for players age 11-14. We don't know the strength of your player or other factors that influence the weight they would need, so can't really recommend exact weights for players.
Kyle J.
What is the difference between the SL16MK8 and the SL17MK8? Jay
Not much changed from the 2016 model to the 2017 model. Easton claims they improved the swing weight of the 2017 model over the 2016 model.
Kyle J.
