Description

For 2016, Easton has brought the most expansive line of power and performance to the market with the all-new Power Brigade Series!

TCT Thermo Composite Technology is the key to the MAKO XL's massive sweet spot, and pure feel on contact. This innovative material comprises both the barrel and handle which are united by Easton's patented 2-PC ConneXion Technology. By isolating the handle from the barrel with the connection joint, energy transfer is maximized while simultaneously eliminating any unwanted vibration. That foundation is then combined with a higher Swing Weight Index for a perfectly-powerful end loaded swing weight.

The MAKO XL features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter, -3 length to weight ratio, new HYPERSKIN Performance Grip, and is BBCOR Certified for High School and Collegiate Play. Pick Your Power and pick up the Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL today at JustBats.com. The shipping is always free, and we're always here for you - from ClickToHit!

Best bat i've ever used Jason K player

Pros: I'm in high school and got this bat less than a week ago and it is amazing the balls fly off the bat and has nothing bad to it that I have noticed.

Cons: The price is a lot and is questionable for a bat but I don't regret it.

Great bat for JV facing slow pitching Nathan player

Pros: Great sweet spot, very responsive bat. You can feel when you hit the sweet spot. Overall just a great bat.

Cons: The grip tape hurt my hands in the begging of the life of the bat. I also am not huge fan of the wood sound the bat gives off.

great bat Jimmy player

Pros: I have this bat in a -3 32 29. amazing pop and it feels almost like a skinny barrel pop with the mass of a bbcor. i actually bought the s2 which broke a total of three times so teybgave me this bat forfree, which i love.

Cons: pricey. also, at times the pop wont sound as good as it normally does which is a little strange, but the quality of the hit doesnt change.

handle Jesse Crawford parent

Pros: Great pop, End loaded. Noticeable difference

Cons: used for only three weeks and the grip started coming undone. called in to find out about warranty and this is a non covered item. if my son were young I could say yes it might be abuse or his grip but he plays high school has three different bats and this is the only one that this is happening to and it's barley used. I was told to contact Easton for grip replacement tape. just not the same as done in factory. with the performance of the bat it's great but in every product you can expect 2% failure. We fell into the 2%. I really want to purchase the Easton Beast 2017 for him, but definitely don't want to fall into another situation where they don't stand behind their product

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this bat the bat that replaces the 2015 XL1? bgg2000
Yes, the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) is replacing the XL1.
Jason
Which bat is better for power hitters: the 2016 MAKO or 2016 MAKO XL? kc baseball
While both bats would work well for a power hitter, I would give a slight edge to the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR (BB16MKL) due to it having an end loaded swing weight.
Marcus
Will they make this in 31/28? BBall
Yes, the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR (BB16MKL) will be available in 31/28 soon.
Marcus
Is this a big barrel bat? baseball
This 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) will be BBBCOR .50 certified and therefore be required to have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. Oftentimes, a 2 5/8" barrel diameter is referred to as a big barrel diameter (however, some USSSA 1.15 certified bats will have a larger 2 3/4" barrel diameter).
Ben
Is the Mako XL authorized for high school baseball? Gus
Yes, the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) is BBCOR certified making it legal for high school play.
Patrick
I am 6'3" and 180 lbs. Would you suggest the Mako or Mako XL? Ian
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) and the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK) are similar except for the XL having an end loaded swing weight. This would be ideal for power hitters with a strong top hand. If bat speed is lacking, the Mako features a balanced swing weight for better contact potential. With that said, we recommend the Easton bat that matches the type of hitter you feel you are.
Cameron
How much different in weight is the Senior League XL1 -5 vs the Easton XL1 BBCOR or this bat? I heard they were similar weights. BaseBall Dad
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is going to have a -3 length to weight ratio. We offer the 2016 MAKO XL BBCOR in a 33" 30 oz. and a 34" 31 oz. model. The Senior League XL1 -5 is going to come in 31" 26 oz. and 32" 27 oz. bats. The difference in weight between these two bats is going to vary anywhere from three to five ounces depending on the size of the bat you were to get.
John
I am 14 years old and 6 feet tall. I weigh 170 pounds. I currently swing the 2014 Easton XL1 -3. It is a 32 inch 29 ounce. I play high school baseball and I have a strong top hand. Would you recommend this bat for me? dillon
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) would be a great choice for you. Based on your height and weight, we would probably suggest a 33 inch size.
Patrick
Is there really much of a difference between this 2016 Mako XL and the 2015 XL1? As far as barrel size and pop? George3
Both the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) and the 2015 Easton XL1 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB15X1) have 2 5/8 barrel and are going to be end loaded swing weight/feel. The MAKO XL will be slightly more end loaded than the XL1 but the pop is going to be very similar on each. With that said, the difference between the two is going to be minimal.
Cameron
I have a 14 yr old who is 5'10" and 221 lbs. What length bat would you suggest? ccc
Based on your son's height and weight I would suggest a 33/30 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL). He could possibly drop to a 32/29 if he has not been swinging the drop 3 previously.
Cameron
Which BBCOR bat has more pop the, Louisville 2016 Prime 916 or the Easton 2016 Mako XL? juan
"Pop" is more of a term that is associated with the skill of the player rather than a measurable feature of the bat. Due to performance restrictions imposed for safety reasons, most bats within the same certification category will perform to the same level at their peak. The difference, and what you end up paying for, is the feel of the bat (balanced vs. end-loaded, one-piece vs two-piece, barrel size, etc.) and the durability of the bat (how long the bat will perform at that peak level). Which one is best would depend on what you are looking for in those aspects compared to the price range you are looking to stay in. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) will be partially end-loaded so it will feel heavier while the 2016 Louisville Slugger Prime 916 BBCOR Baseball Bat (BBP9163) will have a lighter more balanced feel.
Patrick
How does the 2016 MAKO XL "BB16MKL" compare to the 2015 "BB15MKL" model sold by a competitor? Herm
The 2015 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB15MK is going to be the 2015 model of the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL. These two bats will feature different cosmetics and the 2016 model will come with HYPERSKIN Grip while the 2015 will not.
John
I am 5'4" 130 lbs. Would you recommend this bat, the 2016 Easton s500, or the DeMarini for a power hitter? brad
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL and 2016 Easton S500 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16S500 would both be great for power hitters for different reasons. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL would be great because it is an end loaded bat and the extra mass behind the ball will help create more power. The 2016 Easton S500 BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16S500 is a one-piece alloy bat, which is stiffer than a two-piece bat and going to have less flex when swinging.
Nick
Does the 32" 29 oz BB16MKL require a break-in period? RP
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is pretty hot out of the wrapper, but it will still benefit from about 50-100 swings off a tee first.
Jason
I am 5'6" 126 lbs. Would you recommend this bat? Cody
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend that you swing a 31" bat. As for the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL, it would be an end loaded bat. The end load swing weight is going to put more mass behind the ball to increase the power, while also creating a whip like action. This is beneficial for a power hitter. If you like this bat, but are more of a contact hitter I recommend the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK. It's the same bat structurally, but without the end load.
Nick
I am 5'10", 145 lbs. I am torn between the 2016 MAKO XL and the 2016 CF8. What is the difference between the two bats? Craig
Based upon your height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of going with a BBCOR .50 bat in the 32" length. I would recommend choosing a bat based upon whether you want a bat with more of a balanced swing weight or end-loaded swing weight. If you want an end-loaded model, I would consider this 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) over the balanced CF8 model.
Ben
I'm 6'3" and 245 lbs. What length should I be swinging? Josh
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend going with a 34" option of this 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL).
Ben
I am 5'11" 180 lbs, and hit with a lot of contact and some power. What size would you recommend and is this bat an okay fit for me? coop
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 33" model 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL. The MAKO XL is an excellent option for the type of hitter you are.
Jason
Is this the exact same bat as the 2015 XL1, just with different paint? carter
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is the bat that replaced the XL1. However, the MAKO XL is made out of TCT Thermo composite and the XL1 was made out of IMX and SIC composite. The MAKO XL will swing very similar to the XL1, but there are some overall difference between the bats.
Jason
I am 5'6", 165 lbs. What bat size should I swing? I am a deep gap hitter and deciding between the following: MAKO, XL1, or S1. I have the Rawlings VELO right now and want to change it up a little. What should I get? boo boo
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of going with a 32" option of this 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL). As long as you can handle the end-loaded 29 oz weight of the 32" option of this bat, you should be fine with that size suggestion. If you are desiring the end-loaded feel of this bat, I would recommend this model over the others being considered.
Ben
Is there a 2016 XL1? joe
For 2016, Easton did not make a XL1 model. They replaced the XL1 series with this 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) which features an extended barrel length and end-loaded swing weight (like the XL1), but the MAKO XL features the unique TCT Thermo Composite technology from the MAKO line of bats.
Ben
What is the difference from the BB16MKL and the BB16MK? Blah
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL will feature an end loaded swing weight while the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK will feature an extremely balanced swing weight.
John P.
My son is moving up to the 16U division and will be needing a BBCOR bat. He is 5'6" tall and weighs 141 lbs. He has been using the Easton XL1 bat 32" with a drop of -5 in the past year. Would you recommend the 2016 Easton Mako XL BBCOR bat? If so, what size would be better for him to get - the 32" or the 33"? MJ
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is the closest version of the Easton XL1 as both of these bats have a two-piece design, fully composite and feature an end-loaded swing weight. Now, the two bats do not have the same composite barrel (TCT in MAKO XL and IMX in XL1). How these two bats will compare in terms of pop/performance and durability can really only be determined by those who have used them both. As for the correct size to get your son, based on his height and weight we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL in a 32 inch 29 ounce model.
Cameron
I'm 15, 5'7" 147 lbs. Should I use a 31 or 32 inch model? Atlantic baseball
Based on your height and weight, I would recommend that you swing a 32" model.
Nick
I am 5'7", 150 lbs., and 14 years old. I hit with some power so would it be better if I used this bat, a CF8, or a Louisville Slugger 916? I was also wondering if I would have enough strength to swing this bat and control it. And if I was to use this bat what size? Andrew
Based on your height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL in a 32 inch 29 ounce model. Based on how you described your current hitting, the DeMarini CF8 or LS Prime 916 might be better fits due to their balanced swing weight design. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL has an end-loaded swing weight and will be better suited for a power type hitter.
Cameron
Does this bat have a longer barrel than the regular 2016 Mako? devinG
The barrel on the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL will be the same length as the one on the regular 2016 Easton MAKO. The only difference between the two models is the fact that this bat will feature an end loaded swing weight while the regular MAKO will feature a balanced swing weight.
John P.
Is the barrel length the same as the 2015 model? gabe
In 2015, the MAKO XL BBCOR bat was not made by Easton. The 2015 model that would compare most similarly to this MAKO XL would be the XL1 BBCOR bat. In regard to barrel length, this MAKO XL BBCOR will have a very similar length to the XL1 BBCOR from 2015.
Ben
I am a little over 5'8" and 135 lbs. Would you recommend a 33 or a 32 inch bat? jayson werth
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL.
Jason
I am 5'10" and about 145 lbs. I was wondering how significant the end loaded weight is compared to the 2016 MAKO? I can't decide between the two. Pat
The difference in swing weight feel between the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL and the 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MK would be roughly 1/2 ounce.
Cameron
Is this more end-loaded than the XL1 from last year? carl
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL will feature a very similar end-load feel as the XL1 did; only customers who have used both would truly know and there is bound to be difference of opinion from one customer to the next.
Cameron
What is the drop on the bat? dinger dan
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) as with any BBCOR certified bat is going to be a drop -3.
Jake
How is it different from the BB16MK? Trying to decide between the two. jeff
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL has a slightly end loaded swing weight and it is typically a better option for a power hitter. The BB16MK has a balanced swing weight and it is typically better for a contact hitter.
Jason
Would you recommend the Mako series or the Z-Core series? Which bat has more pop to it? And what brand do you think makes the best BBCOR bats? dinger
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL and the Z Core series are going to be very different bats. I would not be able to recommend one over the other due to that fact. Whether a player likes one or the other is really going to be player preference. The Easton Mako is going to be a two piece composite bat while the Easton Z Core is going to be a one piece aluminum. That is going to make each bat offer a completely different feel. Typically, through not in all cases, power hitters prefer more of that stiff feel that a one piece bat offers (The Z Core) and contact hitters would prefer the two piece model (The Mako). But really that is just a guide, every player will have his/her personal preference on what type of bat they enjoy swinging.
Carter
Would you recommend the MAKO or the Z-Core series? Which bat has more pop to it? And what brand do you think makes the best BBCOR bats? dinger
The MAKO series and the Z-Core series are both excellent options. It really comes down to the style and feel you prefer. The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) and all MAKO's are going to be a two-piece fully composite design, whereas the 2016 Easton Z-CORE HMX BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16ZA) and all Z-Core bats are going to be one-piece alloy designs. MAKO's will have a bit of flex and a slightly larger sweet spot. The Z-Core's are going to be stiffer and will be ready to go right out of the box due to it being an alloy barrel. There are pros and cons to both so it really is up to you to decide which features are most beneficial to you.
Jake
Do two piece bats hit the ball just as far as one piece bats even though they aren't as stiff? Ginny
Yes, two piece bats will hit the ball just as far. It really all comes down to personal preference whether somebody prefers one type of bat over another.
Carter
Which bat is more designed for a power hitter? This or the Marucci Cat 7 BBCOR? swrhoads
Both the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) and the 2017 Marucci CAT 7 BBCOR Baseball Bat (MCBC7) are going to be good options for power hitters. With the Mako XL being end loaded through, I would give it the edge for power hitters.
Carter
What's the difference between the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR and the 2016 MAKO TORQ XL BBCOR? spencer
The difference between the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL and the 2016 MAKO TORQ XL BBCOR would be the handle; the TORQ handle will rotate while the regular MAKO will not.
Cameron
What would be a better option for a power hitter: the 2016 MAKO XL or the 2017 MAKO BEAST? Joe
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL has a slightly end loaded swing weight compared to the balanced swing weight on the MAKO Beast. Typically, the end loaded MAKO XL is the better option for a power hitter.
Jason
What is the difference between the 2016 Mako XL BB16MKL and the 2016 Mako BB16MK? TONI
The 2016 Easton MAKO BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MK) is a balanced bat while the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) features an end loaded design
Carter
Has Easton come out with a new 2017 version of the Mako XL BBCOR bat? Mike
For 2017, Easton did not make a MAKO BEAST XL BBCOR baseball bat to replicate this 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL).
Ben
How does this compare vs. the 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZX)? Mike
This 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL) will feature a two-piece, all-composite build with an end-loaded swing feel. The 2017 Easton Z-CORE XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB17ZX) will feature the same end-loaded feel, but it will display a one-piece, all-alloy build to it.
Ben
Any way this bat could get to me in Kerrville, TX by Friday, Jan. 13th by 1:00 PM? Bret
Depending on when an order is placed it is conceivable for an order to arrive to Texas by the day/time you are seeking. There is no guarantee time though that an order will be delivered via UPS. Would recommend calling in and speaking with a customer coach to learn about shipping rates and estimated time for delivery.
Cameron
My son is 15 , 5'10" and 140. He wants to step up to a 33" inch bat. Currently has 32" Combat Maxum -3 BBCOR. Not looking to spend another $400 so we were looking at the 2016 Easton MAKO XL or the 2016 Combat G4. What would your recommendation be? TR
I think both bats are good options, but my personal opinion would probably be to go with the Easton Mako XL if he can handle the end load design that it comes with, as it will bring more pop than the balanced design of the Combat G4. If he's more of a contact hitter, I would look more strongly at the G4.
Kyle J.
Does it come in a 29/32 or a 28/31? What is the difference between the regular MAKO BB16MK and the MAKO XL? Caveman
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL was made in a 32" 29 oz option, but we have sold out of that model and can no longer get it back in stock. They never made a 31" 28 oz version of the bat. The MAKO XL has an end loaded swing weight and it is typically better suited for power hitters. The regular just BB16MK has more of a balanced swing weight and is typically a better option for contact hitters.
Jason
Does this bat come in a 32 inch and 29 oz? justin
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL did come in a 32 inch model when it was first released. At this time all we have left are the 33 inch models and we will not be getting any other sizes in from Easton as this bat is a discontinued model.
Cameron
Do you know any where else I could get a 32 inch but the same bat? justin
Since the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is a closeout model it would be tough to say what retailer(s) may still have this bat in stock with a 32 inch.
Cameron
I'm 5'10 and about 205 would this bat be a good fit for me as a power hitter or should I buy the Louisville slugger prime 917? Michael G.
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is a two-piece fully composite bat, whereas the Prime 917 is a three-piece composite bat. Both designs have their advantages, but it's personal preference.

My 12 year old son is 5'8" 110 lbs. What brand, size and weight in a BBCOR bat do you recommend for him? his no1 fan
Based on your player's height, weight, and age, I would recommend a balanced bat in a 30" size such as the 2017 Easton MAKO BEAST BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17MK.

Did Easton discontinue the XL line for 2017? If so, what 2017 bat would you recommend for someone who likes the feel of the MAKO XL? Kevin
The 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL was not made in the 2017 bat lineup. The closest model in the 2017 Easton lineup that would feature the end-loaded swing weight design was the 2017 Easton Z-CORE Hybrid BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB17ZH. This bat is not fully composite though as it features an alloy barrel and composite handle. As well, this bat will be more slightly end-loaded.

My son is 5'4" and 170 lbs, what bat size would you recommend? And would you recommend a different bat? He plays USSSA travel ball as well as Little League, I would like a bat he could use for both leagues. Joanna
To start off I would recommend, based on his height and weight, that he swings either a 32 or 33 inch bat. As for the 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat (BB16MKL), it is a great bat. The only downside to it is that your son would not be able to use it for Little League as the USA standards will be changing effective Jan. 1 2018. Maybe check into something along the lines of the Easton Beast or Easton Ghost lines to fit your USA needs for Little League ball.

My son is 5' 6 and weighs 122 lbs and has to move to BBCOR. We are looking at a BB16MKL. What size should we get? Will
Given your son's specifications, I would suggest that he swings a 31' 28oz. 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL.

I bought this bat from this website and I've had it for 4 months, doing 1-2 BP sessions and I just noticed these splits in my inner half of the barrel. What does that mean? dluce24
It is hard to know whether or not your 2016 Easton MAKO XL BBCOR Baseball Bat: BB16MKL is defective based on the description that has been provided. Composite bats are prone to cracking at some point. If you feel the bat is no longer performing at the same level prior to the splits you are seeing then it would be advisable to set up a warranty claim with Easton.
Cameron
My son currently has this bat and the two-piece connection point is loose. I believe that is broken. So if it is we will need to get a new bat. Since you no longer have a 32"/29 oz what would be a comparable bat to this? jason
If you are looking for an end-loaded design similar to the Mako XL, our top three options would be the 2018 Easton Beast X Loaded (BB18BXL), the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo Insane (WTDXVIC), and the 2018 DeMarini CF Zen Insane (WTDXCIC).
