Description

For those players that love COMBAT - the Portent G4 fits right in with all of their classic, limit-testing one-piece composite designs. For those of you that have never experienced the COMBAT difference, here is what you can expect: a swing weight that is right on point, and a sweet spot that's almost not even fair. It all starts with COMBAT's exclusive Precision Molding and Seamless Construction technologies! Precision Molding Technology means outer and inner barrel diameters are created with computer-controlled tooling for accuracy and precision control. This results in the optimized performance and the Seamless Construction extends the durability of this top of the line bat. If you didn't know just from seeing "COMBAT" on the barrel, this combo gives you one of the biggest sweet spots in the Youth bat market. The 100% composite, one-piece Portent utilizes COMBAT's single wall construction with Variable Stiffness profile. This calculated inner-wall profile allows the barrel walls to reach optimal compression on contact to maximize trampoline effect and distance on every swing. And the traditional one-piece design provides essential feedback, so you'll know when you've squared-one up or just missed the chance for a 4-base trot. Plus, the new Portent G4 features the extremely popular Ultra-Premium Lizard Skin grip! This elite-level composite bat is perfect for a wide range of hitters and experience levels with it's extremely balanced swing weight and stiff flex on contact.

COMBAT: "Limits Set, Limits Broken!" The Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 is Approved for Play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony, AABC, and USSSA. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Combat portent G4 Brad Wentzel parent

Pros: Great balance, pop- my 10 year old son just moved up from a 29 -12 to 30 inch bat. Had a Combat pure gear before (as well as Demarini Vexxum). When moving up we initially started working with a 30 -10 xl1, which he swung and hit well, but i felt the jump to -10 end loaded was too much so wanted something more balanced. My son really wanted a Mako due to popularity, but liked his last Combat. I convinced him to give the G4 (the $99 shipped price tag didnt hurt) a try and no regrets at all so far. He is swinging this bat much better, and despite not being end loaded, is not losing any distance or speed on the balls coming off the bat. He wouldnt trade it for a Mako now, despite that being the popular model in little leagues. I am a coach of 9 years at all levels in little league and have seen tons of bats. Around my parts it is 99% eastons, and when folks see him hit with the Combat they are very interested in hearing more about them. Combats are the most underrated bats out there.

Great bat CDS parent

Pros: Bought this bat for my 7 year old in his first year of machine pitch. Originally purchased the 27/15 but didnt realize the machine would be as inaccurate as it was so had to get the 28/16 version as well.. My son loves this bat and i believe its as good as any $300 bat out there.

Cons: there is some vibration off the handle and the end, but thats to be expected

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does this bat compare to the YB15MK? Greg
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 will be a bit more stiff than the YB15MK due to its one-piece design. The stiffness of one-piece bats can help improve power transfer from bat-to-ball. It will be a well balanced bat - similar to the MAKO.
Marcus
What is the difference in this bat and the Combat Maxum? chris
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) has a bit shorter barrel and a bit less balanced feel than the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112).
Patrick
How does this bat compare to the 2016 Mako performance wise? Dave
The performance of the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) versus the 2016 Easton MAKO Youth Baseball Bat (YB16MK12) will be very comparable. The main difference between the two would be the feel. The MAKO is a two-piece design that will have more flex while the Portent is a single-piece design that will be stiffer.
Patrick
How do you break-in the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 youth bat? Also, what is the lowest temperature it can safely be used without risk of breaking? John
Here at Just Bats, we recommend about 150-200 swings with the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 either off of a tee or by hand toss with a 1/4" rotation of the barrel after each swing to fully break in the composite bat. Additionally, we do not recommend using the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 in temperatures lower than 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
John
I want to know how this compares to Louisville Slugger Catalyst YBCT152? My son is 8 turning 9, doing minors for the first time this year (player pitched). He is 4'7" and weighs 100 lbs. I am moving him to a 30 inch 18 oz bat this year. Last year he was using a 29 inch 16 oz bat. I initially considered Easton S500C, but now I'm changing my mind. I'm now leaning towards a composite bat instead of aluminum (had to research to know a bit more about the difference between the two). Am I on the right track? What's the best bat for him? Rachel
I think using a 30" 18 oz. bat would be an ideal fit for your son. I would stick with that length and weight. As for these two bats, the construction is going to be similar. Both feature a one piece fully composite construction. I think performance for the bats is going to be awfully similar. We have received great feedback on both bats, so I do not believe that you could go wrong with either option.
Nick
Can you use a hit stick for break in purposes or just for practice with this bat? Steve
I would recommend using regular baseballs (before a hit stick) to ensure a proper break-in on this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112). However, if you like, the hit stick should be just fine for practice use.
Ben
Would this bat be approved for Dixie youth baseball tournaments? Last Combat I had was not. bryan
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 will be legal for play in Dixie Youth baseball up to the "O-Zone" division. After that division, Dixie Youth rules require composite bats to be BBCOR to be legal for play.
Nick
Why was this bat discontinued? My son is 5' and 120 pounds. Would a 32' bat such as this be ideal? Also, what's the difference between this and a double wall construction? Erik
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 is sold out and since COMBAT is no longer making this model that is why it is discontinued. Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" length. A single wall construction will typically offer more of a trampoline effect in comparison to a double wall construction.
John P.
If I buy this bat does it have a warranty or when it breaks will COMBAT give me new model? bmink
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 features a full twelve (12) month manufacturer's warranty so if your bat were to become defective within twelve months from the purchase date you will be covered for a free replacement through COMBAT.
John P.
My son is turning 8 next month. He is 4 feet tall and weighs about 44 pounds. What size bat do you recommend? Combat size
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 27" model in the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112.
Jason
My son is 9 years old. He weighs 55 lbs and is 52" tall. What size bat should he be using? John
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of going with a Youth bat (2 1/4" diameter) bat that has a 28" length. As long as you feel your player can handle the 16 oz weight of the 28" option of this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112), I would recommend that size option of bat.
Ben
My grandson is 12 years old. He will be 13 in August. He plays on a traveling baseball team where he bats 3rd. He is 5'8" tall & weighs approx. 120 lbs (no fat & very fast). What size Combat bat would you recommend? KUSH
Based on your grandson's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
My daughter has the COMBAT Portent 27 inch bat. She used it for tee ball and coach pitch last year. She is now around 50 inches and 56 pounds. I feel the bat is too short for her this year, but other bats she tries seem too heavy. What size in this bat would you recommend for her? She is playing minor league coach pitch this year. maw
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 in a 28 inch 16 ounce model.
Cameron
I was recommended to get this 2016 Combat Portent 64 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) in the 31" length. When I reviewed the bat specs, I noticed that the longest available option is the 30" model. Any other suggestions? KUSH
For the current time being, we do not have plans to restock this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) in the 31"/19 oz size. I apologize for the misleading information. For another solid Youth option (2 1/4" barrel diameter), I would recommend viewing the 2016 Marucci Hex Alloy Youth Baseball Bat (MYBHA12) in the 31"/19 oz size.
Ben
My son is on an 11u travel team and hits lead off. He is about 80 pounds and about 4'6" tall. What size do you suggest for him? Baseball Dad
Based upon your son's height and weight, I would recommend using a 29" 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112.
John P.
My son is 8 years old. He is 4'2" and 50 lbs. How does the 2016 Combat G4 compare to the 2014 Easton S2? Jeff
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of going with a Youth bat (2 1/4" barrel diameter) in the 28" length. This 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) will come with a single-piece, all-composite build. As well, it has an extremely long barrel length that leads to a big sweet spot. The S2 will be different as it has a two-piece, hybrid build (alloy barrel and composite handle). I would say that this PG4YB112 will have the bigger barrel length and sweet spot overall. My recommendation would be to get this Portent G4 in the 28"/16 oz size (as long as your player can handle the weight).
Ben
What's the recommended hits to break this bat in? brad
Some composite bats may require a slight break-in period of about 50 swings off of a tee or soft-toss, but due to regulation changes, many are as good as alloy out of the wrapper. This would be what we would recommend for the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112.
Cameron
We live in Ohio so one day the temperature could be 50 degrees and it could be 75 degrees the next. Would the outdoor temperature negatively affect this bat? If so, which bat would you recommend next? Rick
Here at JustBats, we do not recommend using the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 or any other bat in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Please refer to our bat care page below for tips that will help you keep your bat in the best condition possible for the longest time possible. http://www.justbats.com/bat-resource-guide/bat-care/
John P.
I was wonder what is the major difference in this Combat bat and the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB110? Dre
The difference between the two will be the drop weight. The PG4YB112 will have a -12 drop while the PG4YB110 will have a -10 drop.
John
Does this bat have a break in period? Max
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 has a fully composite construction so it will require some break-in. We recommend at least 50-100 swings off of a tee or soft-toss, while turning the bat about 0.25" between each swing. This will give the bat a decent break-in and make it game-ready, but if you can do more than 100 swings the performance of the bat will only get better.
Angelique
My 10 yr old son is 59" tall, weighs 102 pounds and currently uses a -11 Mako 31/20 Composite bat. He sometimes complains the Mako is too heavy to swing due to the end load. What would you recommend for bat size, weight and model for the Combat brand of bat based on his size? Ken
The normal Easton Mako is not going to be an end loaded bat. He might be swinging a Mako XL or a Youth Mako Torq through. Both of those would feature an end load. Based on his height and weight we would recommend swinging a 30"/18oz 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112).
Carter
What is the difference between the Combat Portent G4 Youth Bat and Combat Maxum Youth Bat? Which is a better bat for a 10 year old? jb2041
Both the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) and the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM -12 Youth Baseball Bat (MAXYB112) are going to be very similar. The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 has a bit shorter barrel and a bit less balanced feel than the 2016 COMBAT MAXUM.
Carter
Are these bats the same has PG4SL112? My son really likes that bat. chapa
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 and the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL112 are the same bats minus the barrel diameter; the later will have a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter while the other (PG4YB112) has a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter.
Cameron
My son is 12 years old, 5'1" and 95 lbs. What size of this bat would you recommend? braves44
Based upon your player's height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) in the 31" length as long as the 19 oz weight is most optimal for use by him.
Ben
My son is turning 8 this week, he is 55 1/2" tall and weighs 71 pounds. Can you recommend a bat size? randy
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 in a 29 inch model.
Cameron
My son is 62" and weighs about 90 lbs. To help him with his hand speed, we were looking for a bat like this one that is relatively light. Would you recommend a 31" bat given his size? Jason
Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 in a 31 inch model.
Cameron
Will this work for the 2018 USA Bat stamp standard? If not, do you have any bats that currently have that stamp? Marcsman
This bat will not be legal under the 2018 USABat standard. Currently no manufacturer has released a bat legal for that standard.
Kyle J.
My son is 11 yrs old, 105 lbs, and about 5 ft. He has a rather slow swing, but has power. Would this 31"/19 oz bat be ideal for him? Oscar
This 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat (PG4YB112) features a -12 length-to-weight ratio and will be very light and easy to swing. If you are looking for a bat to increase his bat speed, this is a great option. Based upon his height and weight, I think the 31"/19 oz size would be fine for use by him.
Ben
We are wondering with the new bat rules (2018) if our son can still use this bat; we just got it last year. Jen
The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Youth Baseball Bat: PG4YB112 cannot be used in USA Leagues such as Little League, Dixie, Pony, Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth, Dizzy Dean or AABC. Since this bat features the USSSA stamp it could only be used in games/league that allow a USSSA model.
