The Combat Maxum will have a longer barrel compared to the Portent. The Maxum will also feature a 500 day manufacturers warranty while the Portent only features the 12 month warranty.

Combat does not specify which type of Lizard Skins grip is featured on the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG4SL112). it is a fairly thin grip though.

The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG4SL112) is fairly game ready out of the wrapper. You may see improved performance after a short break-in period of about 50-100 swings or so of soft toss or tee work but it is not completely necessary.

How long does it take for this bat to be broken in? At what temperatures should this bat not be used at? albert
For the 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL112, we recommend roughly 150 swings off of a tee or soft toss to break the bat in. Start at 50% power and rotate the bat after every handful of swings to ensure the barrel is breaking in evenly.
We do not recommend using this bat, or any bat, excessively in temperatures below 60 degrees. The ball itself becomes more dense in these conditions, thus leading to potentially damaging your bat.

The 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: PG4SL112 is not approved for Dixie youth as this bat has a composite barrel and is not BBCOR certified and has a 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter (making it illegal for the lower levels of Dixie baseball).

I recently purchased a Voodoo 2 1/4 (29"/16 oz) for my 8 yr old. I'm thinking about buying him a new 2 5/8" bat. Would you recommend this COMBAT? Thinking about the pack deal with a 28", 29"or maybe even a 30" (for when he grows even more). What do you think? DJ
If your player is currently using a 29"/16 oz bat and you want to move to a 2 5/8" COMBAT model, I would recommend this 2016 COMBAT Portent G4 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG4SL112) in the 29"/17 oz size or the 28"/16 oz size if his current 29" bat is too long. The 29"/17 oz model will be a little large for him starting out, but he should grow into it with time and be able to use it for a longer amount of time. If you wanted a bat pack, you could get two of these models in the PG4SL112 2-Pack. One option in the 28"/16 oz size and another option in the 29"/17 oz size would probably be my suggestion for the 2-Pack. If you get this sizes, he has one that will fit him exactly for now (28") and one for as he gets bigger (29").
