We do not recommend using bats like the 2015 Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN150) in weather below 55 degrees. At that point, the ball rather than the bat is what sees issues. The inner workings of the ball can condense and become harder which will cause damage to the bat because it becomes something the bat was not designed to hit.

The 2015 Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN150) features the S1iD Technology. That technology in the bat is what makes the clanking sound you are hearing. This is common with every XENO bat and it is simply the S1iD technology in the barrel of the bat that is making the sound. This does not affect the performance of the bat though as this technology is designed to make the bat hot out of the wrapper.

Is the Xeno bat a good bat for younger players in 8-10 age range or is a bat for older players? Would you say this bat or a CF7 for a player that age? tim
The 2015 Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN150 and the CF7 are both great bats to consider for a younger softball player. Both of these bats are two-piece fully composite designs that will require a break-in period but once they are broken-in these two bats will perform very well. As long as you can find the length and weight you are needing, then it comes down to personal preference on these two bats.

The Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN150 is the 2015 model and it is discontinued. Since Louisville Slugger is no longer making the bat, we will not be getting anymore 33" models in stock.

My almost 10 year old is 4 ft. 10 in. and weighs 72 pounds. She's been swinging a 30/17 and a 30/18, but not getting the performance she wants. She likes Xeno & LXT. What is the difference between the two? Which one would be better for her? Kelley C
(1) Based upon her height and weight, we would make a general recommend of a bat with a 31" length. (2) The biggest difference between the bats will be the connection point. This Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN150) will not have the TRU-3 connection point to further limit vibration, like the LXT. That will be the biggest difference. (3) Both the XENO and LXT are available in -11 models. For performance, I think that I would make a recommendation of either. However, I think that maybe a 30"/19 oz size would be best for now to prevent having her make a huge jump in weight on her bat.

I just got this bat and went to the batting cages and hit dimple balls. Did I mess up my bat? baseball boy
Your Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN150) will most likely not have any damage from one session of use in a batting cage that uses dimpled cage balls. However, I definitely wouldn't recommend going back to hit with those dimple balls in the future. The reason to avoid use of those balls is because they will be denser than regular baseballs and have the potential to incur damage to the barrel with extended use.

Typically, you are not going to want a loose connection point on the bat (that is what it sounds like is being described). A loose connection point will lower the overall performance on the bat and create suspect durability. If you have a model of this Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat (FPXN150) and it showing the characteristics described, I would recommend seeking out a warranty replacement model from the manufacturer if you are still under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty period on the bat.

Louisville Slugger has discontinued the manufacturing process of this Louisville Slugger XENO Fastpitch Softball Bat: FPXN150 because they have moved on to new models. You can certainly still use it in all certified-approved leagues.

About the Brand
In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.
After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.
The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.
The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
