One of last year's hottest new designs was the Catalyst, and it's ready to jump start baseball players' games again this season! Made from C1C Composite, the one-piece Catalyst is designed to send the ball flying! The C1C Composite is precisely layered with toughened epoxy resin to make it not only high performing, but insanely durable for a mid-level priced bat! The thing that really makes the Catalyst stand out though is the -12 length to weight ratio! This unique design makes the Catalyst one of the lightest senior league bats to EVER hit the market! The Catalyst is topped off with the patented Louisville Slugger End Cap that dampens vibration and traps that energy in the barrel to create explosive bat to ball contact! With a 7/8 inch tapered handle and a synthetic leather grip, the Catalyst will feel amazing in your hands as you prepare to hit your next homer! Louisville Slugger: Leave Your Mark! Turning my Contact Hitters Into Power Hitters chamblcj coach

Pros: Bringing out confidence in my hitters that have been struggling. Large sweet spot. Good pop for my contact hitters, so they are getting good line drives into the outfield. I've got 3 boys on the team using this bat for now.

Cons: It's full composite, so when the weather turns cool soon do not use this bat. It will snap in two.

Great Bat Brad parent

Pros: Son took it out today (age 9 29"/17oz) and said he really liked the balance of the bat compared to his brothers Easton '14 S-2 bat. Ball really jumped of the bat and noticed considerable more distance with his hits. Only going to get better with age. I bet his older brother (age 10) will be using the bat as well.

Cons: None at this time.

Pros: One of 9U players just purchased this bat. At our first outdoor practice many of our players tried it out. All hit very well, even some bombs deep in the outfield. Balls jumped off the bat and players didn't complain of any vibration.

great bat at one heck of a price Kevin T. Blanton coach

Pros: great pop even harder hits on ground balls. my 8yo son's confidence has grown leaps and bounds because he knows that he is going to hit the ball...it's just a matter of where and how far. I have him practice with his 2 1/4 barrel bat to develop hand/eye coordination but he uses this bat in tournament play.

9 Year Old JZ coach

Pros: My son is 9 and I bought him the bat for Fall Ball this year and Spring next year. Loves the length and how light it is. I truly feel the bats adds distance... not sure how much, but it totally does.

Cons: My son wasn't thrilled that how the handle is wide just after the knob - he'd prefer that it goes straight all the way down... but it's something he thinks he can get used to.

really nice bat Kevin Blanton coach

Pros: this Pat has taken my sons confidence level through the roof. Great pop coming off the bat and is hitting doubles and triples in 8u travel ball. I still have him use his 2 1/4 inch barrel and practice to develop hand I coordination but uses this in tournaments. He has become much more confident and knows he is going to get a hit every time. Great bat for a great price, I highly recommend it.

Catalyst bat u9 U10 Ogden baseball Wyatt parent

Pros: the size of the barrel is a perfect size for the competitive u9 U10. the balls drive off the barrel is phenomenal. I see a lot more base hits this year, and in the future. I have seen on other reviews, people saying the durability is in question. but with the amount of ball that have been hit at 50 degree weather, they should not worry . my boy and his team have probably hit 2500 balls no problem. excellent bat!!

Cons: the only thing that was brought up was the vibration of the bat. my son, and his teammates said that it sometimes stings their hand. the fix to that was make sure they have a good grip, after that there was no problem.

Is there any difference in this year's model compared to the 2014 other than cosmetic? Barry
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) and the 2014 model are the same bat other than the cosmetic appearance.
Jason
Is this bat legal for Pony Baseball? Q
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) would be able to be used in the Mustang, Bronco, and Pony divisions of the Pony Baseball league.
Patrick
Does this bat need a break-in period? Will it stand up to hours in the batting cage? scotty
The 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) is a well-balanced one-piece C1C composite bat featuring an ultra light-weight construction. We recommend for all composite bats a break-in period of 100-150 swings off of a tee or soft-toss, rotating the bat a quarter inch every 20-25 swings. The bat will be fairly durable.
Joe
Can this bat be used for USSSA baseball for 13u? good hit123
Yes, the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) can be used for USSSA 13u because it has the BPF 1.15 stamp. However, it is probably lighter than a player at that age would want to use. By the time you reach high school (14-15 years old) you will need to swing a -3 BBCOR bat and the Catalyst is a -12. It would be a big jump to move from a -12 to a -3 in short period of time.
Damon
How does the Louisville Slugger Catalyst (SLCT152) compare to the Worth Prodigy? For a 9U player. James
Both the 2015 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) and the Worth Prodigy Legit GX4 Senior League Baseball Bat (SLPL10) are going to be good bats for a 9U player. The main differences between these two bats are that the SLCT152 is a -12 2 5/8" barrel one-piece composite bat design; whereas, the SLPL10 is a -10 2 3/4" barrel one-piece alloy designed bat. Both of these bats are designed to be a light swinging bat, it really just depends if the player prefers alloy or composite.
Liz

The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 will not be legal for play in 13-15 Babe Ruth because it is composite and not BBCOR.
John P.

How does this bat compare to the Mizuno Generation as far as performance goes? PONY PINTO DAD
Both the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 and the Mizuno Generation are excellent, high quality baseball bats. This particular model is a one-piece fully composite construction while the Mizuno Generation is a one-piece fully alloy construction. I would say that they perform at similar levels but they are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as construction goes.
John P.
How does the drop 12 Catalyst compare to the drop 10 Prime 916? Is there much weight difference? Chad.
The difference between the -12 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 and the -10 Prime 916 will be a difference of two ounces. Additionally, both models will feature a balanced swing weight.

Whats the difference between this bat and a 28"/16 oz bat with a 2 1/4" diameter? tomB
A 28"/16 oz option of this Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) will differ from a 28"/16 oz bat with a 2 1/4" diameter because this Catalyst features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Ben

This particular model of the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Nick
Does this bat have a seam or is it one solid piece? eric
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 is a one-piece fully composite bat. It does not feature a seam or connection point.
Jason
Is this bat considered a big barrel bat? chel
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 has a 2 5/8" barrel so it would be considered a big barrel bat. Any bat that has a 2 5/8" or 2 3/4" barrel will be considered a big barrel bat.
Cooper
Is this bat durable enough to withstand a 15 game fall season with no damage? Sebastian
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 will be able to withstand a fall season. It has been a well reviewed bat.
Carter
This bat seems to be the one I want for my 7 year old. I have looked at our rules for bats for 2016 and this bat is not listed as a Dixie Youth approved bat. I cant see the bat close enough to see what the bat lists on the barrel. Can you confirm if it is approved or not? Nick Stafford
Only bats with a 2 1/4" barrel diameter will have "Dixie Approved" inscribed on them. This Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter on it and, therefore, the bat won't have "Dixie Approved" inscribed on it. However, there is a chance it could be approved for use in your Dixie League (Dixie bats rules are determined region-by-region). You'll need to check with your coach or local league administrator to get an exact answer on if the bat is permitted for use in your league.
Ben
Would this be a good choice for a coach-pitch league? (My son is only 6, but he could certainly handle the 27"/15 oz size) Johnny
Yes, as long as the 2 5/8" barrel is accepted for use in your league and your player can handle the 27"/15 oz size, I think this Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) in that size would be excellent for use in a coach pitch league.
Ben
I am considering buying this bat, the COMBAT Vigor or the Omaha 516. I am wondering what will be the most durable, have the larger sweet spot and be a better fit for my 8 year old? He already swings a COMBAT, but I am going to get him a 29" bat. I am little worried about the weight. Any suggestions? Tiny
It will be difficult to say that one bat is going to be the absolute best option in regard to all the categories you have mentioned. However, I do see that you are wanting something that is going to feature a lighter swing weight (and probably a bigger barrel at 2 5/8"). I would very much recommend considering this Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) as you can get a 29"/17 oz model with a 2 5/8" barrel diameter. As well, the bat features great performance and durability reviews (plus a decent sized barrel length). My recommendation would be to get this Catalyst.
Ben
I bought a Combat 26/16 recently for my son (8 year old) because he said 27/17 was a bit heavy for him. Unfortunately now he feels 26" is too short. If I want to buy this Louisville for him, should I go for 28/16? Or should I buy 29/17 so that he can use it through Spring? KC
I would recommend the 28"/16oz and I would say that he would be able to use that through the Spring and maybe even longer. Jumping three inches for the last bat he swung it a pretty huge jump. On top of that he has already said that 17 ounces was a little bit too heavy for him. With all that being said I feel that the 28"/16oz is the best option for your 8 year old son.
Carter
My son just turned 11. He uses the Mako 29/19. He is 5'2" tall, 85 lbs & a lefty. Was wondering if this is a good choice for him? Coaches have said he should use a longer bat for his height? I don't want to add any weight to his bat, maybe length. Don't want my son to start dropping his shoulder or head due to weight of the bat. IElite11u
Yes the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) would be a great option for your son. This is one of the few bats that actually offers that -12 length to weight ratio. Because of that you will be able to add extra length without making the bat heavier than what he is currently swinging. Based on your sons height and weight we would recommend swinging a 30" bat.
Carter
Is this bat composite and is it a big barrel? erik
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) is a one piece fully composite bat and it has a 2 5/8" barrel making it a "Big Barrel".
Carter
What is the difference in this bat (model#SLCT152 and model #SLCT15X)?. Price is $100 more for the second one and I only see a barrel size difference in the descriptions. David
The main difference between the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 and the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152X would be the barrel diameter. The later would have a 2 3/4" barrel diameter while the other (SLCT152) would have a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Cameron
Which drop weight (-12,-10 or -8) is best for a 10 year old who is 4'7" around 85 pounds? kiki
I would recommend a 29"/17oz (-12) Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152).
Carter
The nights are cold here in Las Vegas during practice. Do I need to worry about the bat breaking in two because of the cold? Jeff
We do not technically recommend using any specific bat at temperatures below 55 degrees. When the temperature sinks below 55 degrees, the ball becomes denser and has the ability to damage the barrel walls of any bat. If a player is participating in a practice that is being held in conditions with a temperature below 55 degrees, we would recommend using an older model of bat that will no longer be used for games or even a wooden bat. However, we know that everyone wants to use their best bat in the game. Because of that, if a game is being held in conditions below 55 degrees, we would recommend warming up with a non-game model bat (or wooden model) and then only using the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) in the actual game.
Ben
My son is 49 inches and about 56 lbs. His bat of choice is a Easton MAKO 27 inch drop 12 composite. Also has a 2 1/4 Easton S2 that is 28 drop 13. Was looking at the Louisville and the COMBAT Vigor. Both with 2 5/8 barrel and probably the 28 drop 16. What do you recommend? Both the bats and size. Vp flash
Based on your sons height and weight and all the information you have given us about him I would recommend a 27"/15 ounce Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152).
Carter
My son will be 10 in January (he's 4' 8" & 70 lbs). His current bat is too heavy (LS Omaha 515 / 27"/17 oz; big barrel). Would the 29" be too heavy and long? Henry
Based upon your player's height and weight, we would make a general recommendation of getting this Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) in the 29"/17 oz size. However, since it sounds like you may need something lighter than 17 oz, I would recommend the 28"/16 oz size for him at this current time.
Ben
Does the bat have a 2 5/8" barrel? Boi lives long
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 features a 2 5/8" barrel diameter.
Jason
Is this bat 'balanced' or 'end loaded'? Gregg
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 has a balanced weight distribution.
Logan
Looking for a 2 5/8" bat for my 9 year old son who is 4'8" and weighs 65 lbs. He currently hits with a 29"/17 bat and does well. Considering this 2 5/8" Catalyst (29"/17 oz), Combat MAXSL112 (29"/17 oz), or possibly even Combat MAXSL110 (29"/19 oz). Is the -10 bat too big of a jump in weight? Any thoughts on which will serve him well for a full year and considerations for making the choice? RJdad
Based upon your height and weight, I would make a general recommendation of getting a bat in the 29" length. However, if you feel that he has grown since last season, you might think about moving to a bat in the 30" length. I think that you could consider using a 30"/18 oz bat or a 29"/19 oz size. If you got the 29"/19 oz size of bat, I do not think the increase would be too much (either size I recommended could be used for a year's time). If you wanted the -12 or -10 , I would recommend the COMBAT models as the big barrel lengths on those bats will lead to large sweet spots on the bats as well.
Ben
My son is 6 and 54 pounds, 3 ft 10 and swings a 28/16. Is that okay for him to use? He liked his teammate's bat, he plays with older kids. Guy
Based on your songs height and weight we would recommend a 27"/15 ounce bat, but it sounds like he is swinging a 28"/16 ounce just fine so I would recommend staying with that.
Carter
My son is 10 years old and plays on a travel competitive baseball team. He is 4'7" and weighs 75 lbs. Will this bat handle the pitching speed for this age group? Also, is a -10 or -12 best drop weight for 10U age group? BP73
This bat will be fine for the pitch speeds at that age group. As for the weight of the bat, that is hard to recommend because we do not know the strength of the player, if they choke up, etc.
Kyle J.
My son is 10 years old and small for his age. He is 4 ft 3 in and 62 lbs. He is not a power hitter however he is a good lead off hitter. Wondering what size do you recommend? His bat from last year is 26 in 15 oz and is dented so looking to buy a new one. Rae
We would recommend a 28" length of bat for someone his size.
Kyle J.
I've seen a few questions about this bat being approved for Pony league use. Is the Pinto division approved? JG
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) is approved for the Pinto Division in Pony League.
Carter
My son is in his first year of Pinto. He is age 7 (3'10" and maybe 44 lbs). What size bat do you recommend? Does this bat come in a 27"? josh
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would recommend getting a bat with a 27" length to it. Since this Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT152) is an older bat, we have unfortunately sold out of the 27" length bat. However, the new 2017 Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat (SLCT172) is available in the 27"/15 oz size.

My 10 year old is about 4'9 and 82 lbs. I would consider him a contact hitter. Which would be a better choice for him, the Lville Catalyst SLCT152 or the Combat Vigor VG2SL112? Or is there another bat that you think would be a better choice? Thanks! OU_Murphy
The Louisville Slugger Catalyst Senior League Baseball Bat: SLCT152 and the Combat Vigor are very comparable as far as performance since they are both one piece composite bats. The Catalyst is a little more balanced, so it might be better for your player.

How would the Catalyst compare to Rawlings SLRM34? I have the Rawlings (29/17) and my son hits ok with it and was wondering if this would be an upgrade. Was thinking about purchasing the Louisville also at a 29/17. Charlie
Both bats are fairly similar, except the Catalyst is a one-piece composite design while the SLRM34 was a two-piece design. This means the Catalyst will offer less flex and vibration dampening than the SLRM34, but should offer a bit more power when you square up balls.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
