CC Charlie parent

Pros: This bat has pop right out of the box. My son has used it in three games this past week and all I can say is that he is hitting the ball 50-75 feet farther. He generates a much quicker swing and is crushing the ball.

Cons: None so far.

Good Bat LBULL coach

Pros: Moved my son up from a 26/16 LS Omaha to the 28/16 Mako and he dramtically improved his power and Line drives. This bat gives him a ton of confidence.

Not Recommended David coach

Pros: It looks cool and probably ok for a beginner.

Cons: Bat has no pop. Sounds like you are swinging a 2x4 when contact is made. Spent way too much time waiting for the "pop" to show up. Two kids on my team have now quit using this bat and moved on to the two piece more expensive make and the difference was amazing during their first cage session. If you can't afford the higher end Easton I'd recommend going with an alloy big barrell instead of this one.

Pros: it has a really nice feel to it and seems to be well constructed.

Cons: The bat has no pop at all and it seems that the ball does not jump off the bat. I would recommend getting something else.

One of the best junior big barrel bats Cypress Baseball coach

Pros: Big sweet spot, which is the most important factor in a JBB bat. Lightweight & perfect balance, allows a kid to go w/ inch longer bat, which gives a bigger sweet spot & usually will notice more power. True to weight listed, unlike the 26" Miken rev ex, I bought here that weighes 15.9 oz. I coach a 6U select team & know most of the good & not very good JBB bats out there. You can't go wrong w/ the makos 13 & '14, Marruchis all have big sweet spot, Easton S3 is good, Louisville Omaha & Assault, Marruchi better than the Assault imo. The cat 6 is a great bat, but the cheaper Marruchis are very good. Only get the cat 6 if you have a kid that can't tolerate bat stings at all or if you play cold weather for stings, but I've seen a dented up cat 6 not very old, but it still has pop with the dents. I don't like the Easton XL & haven't got a chance to rate Demareni unfortunately. 1. Mako 2. Any Marruchi 3. Omaha 4. Easton S3 5. Assault, all these are quality bats, but Makos are 1st.

Cons: These are cons for the inexperienced with composite bats. I don't believe any reviews that says this bat has pop right out of the wrapper. We have a '13 & '14 Mako that have pop right now. Those & the 2 brand new Makos kids just got have no pop. If you buy a composite bat mid season, I recommend using a baseball mallet to break in, otherwise you will end up posting a bad review on a great bat. A ball mallet is a good way to test the size & effect of the sweet spot on a bat. Every bat stings if hit on the handle especially youngsters. The bat sounds like a wood bat when you hit it, which is normal 2' x 4' guy. I will post review on the Miken later, my son went from a 25-15 Assault to his cousins 26-14 Mako, b/c the Miken is 16 oz & suppose to be 14.5 & it feels end loaded. Not as balanced as any bat I have mentioned.

No Pop Myth Jason Smith coach

Pros: Great Bat.

Cons: With ALL Composite bats, it takes roughly 200 hits around the sweet spot before the bat "activates". Best to buy before the season starts and have lots of BP until the bat breaks in.

GO A DIFFERENT ROUTE Dugout Dad parent

Pros: Nice look and feel

Cons: No pop. They look nice when we purchased it but the entire year we have seen absolutely no pop out of the bat. I'm not one to blame the machine for mistakes of the user but my son would use another bad with the same specs and would be crushing the ball. Only thing that changed was the bat. Save yourself the headache and go another route.

My son loves it Kassandra Logan parent

Pros: After having a small barrel bat all this time, I thought my son was just not going to hit the ball like the other boys. As it was time to go up to a bigger bat, I decided to do research and came across this bat. A lot of the kids have this bat and now I understand why. My son was immediately started hitting the balls in the outfield. As a result, he gained a tremendous amount of confidence in his baseball abilities. He has complained a little about the sting afterwards but wouldn't trade it for anything.

Cons: It has a little vibration sting.

Would certainly recommend... Scott parent

Pros: After breaking it in this bat is noticeably hotter than my son's Easton S3 alloy bat from last year. Bought this bat for my undersized 7 year old, he's only 40lbs but has lead his team in hitting for the last three seasons (spring and fall). He's a hitter so when he started using this new 27" 15oz the pop is very noticeable. Can't say I'm surprised, I used Easton bats when I played and see no reason for my son to change. Great bat! Great company! And oh yeah justbats.com rules as well!

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB15MKB? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

It scares me that it says made for 8 years and under, only because one comment I saw said it was not good for balls thrown faster than 30 mph. Is there any truth to that or do you have any insight on this? BRAD
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB), like all Junior Big Barrel bats, are designed specifically for Coach Pitch only. The 30 mph comment is based on the fact that Coach Pitch speeds typically do not exceed that speed. These bats should not be used in Kid Pitch, as the speeds that can be reached will cause durability issues.
Jason
Why is bat recommended for ages 8 and under? Henry
Junior Big Barrel models, like this 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB), are recommended for players 8 and under because they have thinner barrel walls than Senior League models. This type of bat helps a player increase bat speed, but they will not hold up very well when hitting pitches around 40 mph or when in the hands of an older, stronger player.
Mac
How does this bat differ from the previous year's model? Double A Ron
The design and materials will be very much the same from the 2014 model MAKO to the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB). The largest difference between the two models will the 2015's color scheme.
Brandon
what size would I need for a 6 1/2 yr. old boy? dewey
For the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) our glove coach would recommend a 27" 15 oz. bat
Joe
How long has this bat been out? I wish there were more reviews on it, I have heard good things about this bat. Mike
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) was released August 1, 2014. This has been a very popular bat, that I have sold a lot of.
Frankie
Besides the length/weight ratio, what are the differences between this bat and the 2014 Easton Mako SL15MK10B? Trent
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) is considered a Junior Big Barrel Bat. Junior Big Barrel Bats are only meant to be used for coach pitch and machine pitch. The barrel walls in a Junior Big Barrel bat are not built to withstand the force of the pitches once kid pitch begins. Also, you'll notice that the Junior Big Barrel model is a single piece all-composite model while the 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat (SL15MK10B) is a two-piece, all-composite model.
Ben
I know it is not recommended for kid pitch, some of the kids on my travel team have this bat and love it. We are getting ready to go to our first tournament, just wondering if this bat is legal in 9u USSSA league? Thanks Bullet
Yes, the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) does feature the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp on the taper of the bat.
John
My son is 7 years old, about 45 pounds and going into his first year of coach (Machine) pitch. Would you recommend this bat? If so what size? R Miller
This is a great bat for coach pitch. I would recommend getting the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) in a 28 inch.
Frankie
My boy is starting 6U machine pitch this spring. I believe the speed is 36-38 mph. Will the MAKO withstand those speeds? SCS
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) is designed for pitch speeds up to 40 mph so it would be close. The bat should work at those speeds but if they are higher it could see durability issues that are not expected.
Patrick
Since it says here that the Junior Big Barrel version of the MAKO is also made from IMX Composite, is it essentially the same bat as the S1? If not, what are the substantial differences? Baseball Dad
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) is made from the same IMX Composite that the S1 Junior Big Barrel was made from. The MAKO is essentially the same design.
Mac
My son is 7 and in his second year of 9U Travel Ball. He is close to 4 feet tall and weighs about 45 lbs. What Junior Big Barrel Bat do you recommend? Rod J.
For his size we would recommend a 27" bat. The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) is a great option with a large sweet spot.
Allison
My son is 4 years old and is playing Coach Pitch baseball. He weighs about 38 pounds. What weight and length of bat should he be using? Mike
For his size we would recommend a 26" in the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) with weight of either 14 oz. or 13 oz.
Allison
I have 5 year old son who is playing his first year of coach pitch. I would like him to swing a 2 1/4", but there doesn't seem to be any that are 25" or 26" except for tee ball bats. Would you suggest this MAKO? mike
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) would be an excellent option for your son. At his age the 2 3/4" big barrel will give him the best chance at continued success as he grows and refines his swing.
Jake
Is this bat approved for U8 Dixie Youth coach pitch baseball? I don't see it stamped with approved for Dixie Youth. Adams
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) would not be approved because Dixie League does not allow the use of 2 3/4 inch barrel diameter bats.
Patrick
Is this bat legal for Pony? deysi
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) features a 2 3/4" barrel diameter and is not legal for play in Pony. Pony does not allow the barrel diameter to exceed 2 5/8".
Jason
Is this bat identical to the SL15MK10B except for the length? Or are the materials different? Tom
These two bats are actually very different. The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB15MKB is a one-piece bat that is constructed from Easton's IMX Composite. The 2015 Easton MAKO Senior League Baseball Bat: SL15MK10B is a two-piece bat that is made from Easton's TCT Thermo Composite.
Marcus
My son is 6 and will be playing pitching machine in the spring. In their league, the barrel size regulation is 2 1/4. Which bat would you suggest for him? nvllbaseball
The 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) would not work because the barrel is too big. I would recommend something light like the 2016 Easton S2 Youth Baseball Bat (YB16S213) or the 2016 Easton S3 Youth Baseball Bat (YB16S313).
Patrick
What is the difference between this and the 2016 MAKO? Would you spend the extra money on the 2016? Woody
The performance and style of the 2015 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) compared to the 2016 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB16MK12B) is extremely similar. The differences would be mostly cosmetic in nature.
Patrick
Is this bat approved for Dixie Youth baseball 8 and under? bob
Dixie Youth Baseball allows their leagues to create their own bat rules from league to league. I would recommend reaching out to a local league official to get the exact answer on whether this Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB15MKB) will be allowed in your league or not.
Ben
Can we use this bat in Coach Pitch? I have seen some reviews that say you can't. BRoll Fresh
The Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB15MKB is designed specifically for Coach Pitch and it will work great for that.
