Pros: I purchased this bat for my 8yr old son. He plays coach pitch and will be moving on to kid pitch in the fall. I wasn't satisfied with the Mako Jr. he has been using. It has never sounded or hit right. He is making solid contact on a more consistent basis. He hits the ball harder. I did move him from a coach pitch bat 27/15 (which he choked up on one inch) to a kid pitch bat 26/14 (which he now holds all the way down on the knob). Very happy with the results.

great bat. puts other bats to shame gogo113 parent

Pros: Great Pop. Well balanced. Durability seems good thus far. Far superior than other well known brands.

Cons: Stings a little if you don't hit it on the sweetspot, as this is a one pc bat.

Light and hot! Dave parent

Pros: My 9 year old started hitting with this bat this past summer and loves it. Because of the -12 ratio he was able to move up to a 29" for more plate coverage. He was leading the team on batting average before we bought this now it's not even close. Constantly has other kids wanting to try it thinking there is something magical about it.

Cons: A little pricey but worth the money.

Coach

Pros: Great bat. Great pop out of the wrapper. Very lightweight. My kids are 8s in Coach Pitch. We are stuck between JBB bats and legit youth bats. This gives us the lightweight drop -12 of a Jr. Big Barrel, but the pop of a youth bat. Several kids on the team have been using it and it doesn't disappoint. Well worth the $170 I spent on it. I literally hit a Home Run on this bat purchase!!

Cons: Nothing really. I guess I'd say the 2 5/8" barrel isn't terribly long and it starts to taper quickly. But doesn't seem to keep kids from finding the sweet spot.

GREAT BAT RYAN parent

Pros: Great pop right out of the box. My 8 yr old has the S1 & the 10 oz drop was a little difficult to get through the zone. The 12 oz drop has made a world of difference. He is hitting line shots, & almost every kid on his league team is using it as well as some of his travel ball team mates. In my opinion this is a great bat. Great buy for the 7-10 yr old who isn't getting the other bats through the zone.

Cons: None so far, will review again if any occur.

Great bat Skaminator coach

Pros: First big barrel bat we have had so I don't have much to compare but it does seem to have good pop and a great balanced feel. Moved up from a 28-15 2 1/4 to this in a 29/17. My son is 8 and weighs 60 pounds, might be slightly too heavy for him but he chokes up just a little, should be able to use for another year or 2 as long as it lasts. The more it gets used the hotter it gets. Big sweet spot. There are only 2 drop -12s in 2 5/8 and the other is the catalyst and every single person i talked to said this is much better. 2 other kids bought the same bat in different sizes.

Cons: Vibration at times, but its a one piece bat so you will get that. I just tell my son to hit it on the barrel and it won't vibrate.

Nice pop out of the box. Dave parent

Pros: My son had an omaha drop 10 bat but he just couldn't swing it fast enough bc of his size. This bat is a drop 12 and balanced very good, his bat speed is way up and kills the ball when he hits it. It's not even broke in yet and the ball fly's of the bat. I didn't know much about combat bats but this bat is great.

Cons: My son says there is some vibration if it is not a clean hit but I can only remember one hit near the handle when he shook his hands like ouch.

My Friend's New Bat I am GROOT!! player

Pros: The bat is extremely awesome and the ball explodes off the bat!! The length to weight ratio (-12) is very rare for a senior league baseball bat. I have gotten a lot of great hits with this bat!! Excellent feel when hitting the ball. Durability is unmatched, after people on my team have thrown the bats around the dugout and knocked it over. Also, no dents in the bat after 16 games with it. Having lizard skin grip just adds to the what a great job combat has done on the Portent G3!!

Cons: Zings your hands when hit on end of bat, but all bats have that.

Combat Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat Stephanie parent

Pros: Got this for my 12 yr old son after he broke his last Combat during a weekend tournament after having the bat for 3 yrs. He loves this one as much as he did the old one. Cool colors and all the boys on his team want to use it. For sure we got what we were expecting and can't wait to go through the summer and the next few years with it.

Cons: The brand holds up real well so I am hoping the Durability of this one is a 5 star also but since he has only had it two weeks I can't really say.

questionable coachray parent

Pros: It is lighter being a drop 12 and will help with bat speed, and the lizard skin offers the most grip of any bat tape available, seems to have decent sized "sweet spot"

Cons: Bad seems dead, even after apporx 300 hits from myself and my daughter and other kids on her travel baseball team the bat dosent seem to be as hot as her rawlings 5150 or the easton mako. The bat does have considerable vibration if not hit in the sweet spot. Hopefully some of this will be corrected as it breaks in further but after buckets and buckets of pitched balls, tee work, batting practice, hitting flyballs during practice it should be broken in by now.

2015 Combat Portent G3 Scott Edmondson coach

Pros: This bat is worth the money at regular price or on sale. My child plays up on a travel ball team against kids two years older than him. I forced him to swing an Easton -13 with a 2-1/4 barrel in order to have the bat speed needed to handle older pitchers. The G3 came in the same length as what he was using and was a -12 meaning he never noticed picking up one ounce of extra weight but he did notice he has a 2-5/8 barrel now. First time we went out he hit nearly every ball 30-40 ft further than with Easton S3. He will be hitting Combat from now on, i assure you; these bats are in another league.

Cons: I might like to see a little thicker grip closer to knob, but nothing that extra wrap couldn't solve. biggest con, other kids will want to hit this bat and they are delicate. Combat even says only use these bats in games and to practice with other bats. Personally I want my child to wear this bat out, not the entire roster! Be prepared to tell some dads to shop at JustBats.com

great bat ultilab parent

Pros: my son is current on the #1 team in our state (8U) He has been using the Easton S1 but not being a power hitter, the 2 piece design seems to dud out a lot of his hits. The Combat 1 piece design seems to allow for more pop, right out of the box. Even some of the power hitters are now using this bat in the tournaments with much longer distance on their hits. We use the S1 now for rec league as big barrels are not allowed. I was worried about sting, but he has never once complained about a sting and says the bat feels great when he hits with it. other boys on our travel team are now being their parents for this bat.

Cons: none yet. I gave 5 stars on durability because I had to click on one, but we probably only have about 1,000 hits on it in 2 weeks.

Pros: This bat is awesome! My son is 8 yrs old and is on the smaller side. He just moved up to Pony mustang and needed a bat that could give him increased bat speed and get a little more distance. Well this bat is just what he needed. He is now getting triples and doubles! Dad tried it out during break in period and with little effort was crushing it past the outer wall. This bat is a no-brainer!

Home Run!! SR hawaii parent

Pros: Bought for my 8 yr old son. The bat is light and makes great contact with the ball because of the big barrel. Great for kids who need the lighter weight but want to hit the ball a good distance. I tried a few swings off the tee and can really hit far with this bat.

Cons: The 2 5/8 barrel was not legal for Babe Ruth. Check your leagues rules before you buy.

I'm Batman! Valleye parent

Pros: i coach my son at 9U travel and have tried 3 bats the past 2 seasons, Louisville's Catalyst, then the Demarini Overlord. Both in the 2 1/4. He liked those two for the weight. My son is shorter than his teammates but has an aggressive swing so the weight worked to his advantage. The Combat with its larger diameter enlarges the sweet spot but the weight doesn't take anything away from his aggressive fast swing motion. He's been hitting better, especially when you hear it hit from the sweet spot. You know the ball jumps off the bat. Most of all he lives the bat, and so do his teammates!

Cons: Little vibration but negligible to my son.

Otherwise, both models will incorporate the same one-piece composite design, and will also use similar technology including Precision Molding Technology. The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) has a 2 5/8" barrel.
Marcus
Is it approved for Dizzy Dean baseball? barry
As long as the 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter is allowed in your specific Dizzy Dean league's age division, the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) should be legal for play from ages 5-12.
Patrick
My 11 year old son plays travel ball and has normal bat speed. He has not been hitting for power but he is a great contact hitter. Would this bat be good for a slow to average swing speed contact hitter looking to add some power? K
Yes. The lightweight design of the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) would be great for producing swing speed while the stiff flex will allow for great bat head control which contact hitters tend to prefer.
Patrick
What is the barrel diameter? Keith B
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) has a 2 5/8" barrel.
Marcus
How big is the barrel? daba man
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) has a 2 5/8" barrel.
Marcus
Does this bat need to be broken in? kenny
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) will feature composite material that will require less break in than previous models but will still benefit from a brief even break-in period making sure you rotate the bat a quarter turn per hit. That way the full area of the bat gets the same break-in process.
Patrick
Can 6u kids use this in tournaments? trent
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) has the USSSA BPF 1.15 Stamp. This bat is eligible for play in kid pitch that require the USSSA stamp and allow big barrel bats.
Damon
Is this an end-loaded bat like the B4 Portent? Meat
The COMBAT B4 Portent (B4SL1) nor the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) would be considered overall to be end-loaded. Both bats, by design would be more balanced.
Patrick
How does this bat compare to the Combat Bubba? Curious
The sizing and seamless construction on the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112 Senior League) and the older COMBAT Bubba will be similar. But the new Portent G3 will feature Variable Stiffness Technology for optimum barrel compression on contact. Also, it will have an Ultra-Premium Lizard Skins Grip for added comfort. The G3 would be the better choice.
Brandon
Is this for a power hitter? And how does it compare to the DeMarini CF6? BT
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat (PG3SL112) could be used by both power hitter and contact hitter style players. The light weight would be good for a contact hitter while the stiff flex would benefit a power hitter style player. The G3 would be different from the CF6 in that it is a one-piece design while the CF6 is a two-piece. The CF6 will offer more flex.
Patrick
What is handle size of this bat? johnny
The COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat (PG3SL112) has a 7/8" inch handle.
John
How does this bat compare to the Combat B2? beast
Both the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 (PG3SL112) and the Combat B2 are very good bats, the main difference between the two will be the variable stiffness technology on the Portent G3 for optimum barrel compression on contact.
Sean
Are the 2 3/4 bat diameters accepted for travel ball as well as the 2 5/8? No1HoosierFan
It can vary from league to league what barrel diameter is allowed. The best thing to do would be to contact your coach and check on league rules before purchasing the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat (PG3SL112) or any other bat.
Patrick
why is their a warning sticker on it? L6i
Most bats now come with a warning sticker indicating that the batted ball speeds that the bat can produce can be dangerous for people in the field. The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat (PG3SL112) is not the only bat that features this warning label.
Patrick
I'm not familiar with COMBAT. How does this bat compare with the Easton MAKO specifically the 2 5/8"? sam
COMBAT is very well known for having powerful and premium composite material. The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: (PG3SL105) will feature a one-piece composite design. Therefore, it will feel a little bit stiffer in comparison, however, both models will incorporate a balanced weight distribution. The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip: (PG3SL105) will also incorporate a newly designed lizard skin grip to improve comfort and performance. The biggest difference will ultimately be the the structure. Both models are top of the line and are very high quality.
Merritt
With this being a one-piece bat, will there be some vibration in the handle? Nitro
Unfortunately, yes. There's always a chance of feeling negative feedback/vibration in a one-piece bat when the ball isn't squared up completely on the barrel; even in composite designs like this 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112).
Mac
Is this bat legal for Pony League play? Scotty
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) would be legal in the Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, and Pony Divisions of Pony baseball.
Patrick
Would this composite be strong enough to hold against kid pitch, or is it more suitable for just Coach Pitch? Dave
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) is designed for players in kid pitch. The composite material is designed to hold up against the higher pitch speeds.
Jason
Would you recommend this bat or the MAKO for a contact hitter that is looking for a little more power? My son is 9 and plays travel baseball. He is 4'5" and 58 lbs. jillian
Actually, both the Easton MAKO and the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) would be great for a contact hitter looking for more power. The lighter more balanced swing weights will definitely help.
Brandon
Is this bat susceptible to breaking like the Louisville Catalyst? My son broke 2 of them in less than 4 months. Mom of contact hitter
Based on the feedback we've received so far, the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) should offer pretty good durability. Unfortunately, we couldn't predict the life of any bat. But this bat is backed by the 12 month warranty through COMBAT, as a safeguard.
Mac
Will the price be going down any more on this model anytime soon since the new line is coming out soon? dad
We have marked down the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League (PG3SL112) to $199.99 from its original $269.99. We have not got word from our Product Management team as of yet if they are going to further reduce the price.
John
Is this bat end loaded or well balanced? bborsv
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) features a well balanced swing weight.
Jason
Could you tell me what size bat you would recommend for an 8 year old USSSA coach pitch player at 51" tall and weighs 61 pounds? JimR
I would suggest a 28" 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112)
Jake
Is this bat approved for play in Dixie Youth? Jay
Based on our resources, the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) is not approved for Dixie Youth Baseball. Dixie Youth typically requires a 2 1/4" barrel diameter. But in the division that does allow the use of big barrel bats, you would not be allowed to use a composite barrel that was not a BBCOR certified bat. Concerning legality, I would always recommend checking with a coach or league director to confirm what barrel diameter is required.
Mac
The 2015 Dixie youth baseball states that we can use 2 5/8" barrel bats, but does that include composite bats also? ang4jesus
According to Dixie's website any composite barrel bat needs to be BBCOR .50 certified. This would mean that the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) would not be legal in your league since it is not BBCOR certified.
Jake
I'm 60 inches and 85 pounds. Would you suggest the COMBAT Portent G3 in a drop -12 or the Easton S1 in a drop -10 for a contact hitter looking for a little more power? Person Dude
You may prefer the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) over the Easton S1 because of the structure. The COMBAT Portent G3 has a one-piece design which will have a stiffer feel next to a two-piece design. One-piece bats are typically preferred by power hitters.
Chinyere
Is this bat legal for Little League 50/70, Intermediate division use? Bryan
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) is not legal because it has the bigger 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter and is composite. The only composite bates with big barrels that Little League will allow have to be BBCOR certified. This bat is not BBCOR certified.
Patrick
Is this bat OK to use in the cold? dude perfect
We would not recommend using the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) or any other bat in temperatures below 55 degrees due to the density of the balls. Bats can't uphold the density of balls whenever they are so dense from the cold.
Allison
My 7 year old is 48 inches tall and weighs 50 pounds. The Bat Coach recommends a 27 inch. Am I wasting my money on a 27 inch because I think 50 inches tall would recommend a 28 inch right? George
Yes, the bat coach would recommend that a player 2 inches taller than your player's current height should use a 28 inch size. Given the light weight of the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112), you can probably get away with purchasing a 28 inch design and having them grow into it.

Is this bat legal for Babe Ruth 13-15? Mike
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) is fully composite and it does not feature the BBCOR certification stamp. The PG3SL112 is not legal for play in Babe Ruth 13-15. All composite bats in Babe Ruth 13-15 need to be BBCOR certified.

My son is 7 years old he us 4'8'' and 100 lbs. He plays coach pitch. I was looking at the COMBAT or DeMarini Vexxum. I was wondering if I should get 29 or 30 inch bat and what weight should i get? bama boy
The 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) and the DeMarini Vexxum are both very nice models. The Portent G3 will feature a full composite design while the Vexxum will feature a hybrid design. Generally composite models will out perform alloy bats. I would recommend going with the Portent G3 in the 30" 18 oz. The light weight design of the Portent will help him with bat control and bat speed.

Is this bat legal for Nations baseball? tyler
As long as your local league does not restrict the barrel material the player is able to use, 12U Nations players and below should be able to use the 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112). It would be best to double check with a coach or league official prior to purchase.

How many swings does it take to break in? dad
We recommend about 150-200 swings off a soft toss or a tee to get your 2015 COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) broken in. You want to make sure you rotate the barrel 1/4" every swing. You can also check out this great video on how we recommend getting a composite bat broken in: https://goo.gl/p5qBxE.

What is the difference between the G3 and G4? Father1
This COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) and the 2016 Portent G4 are made with same materials and technologies from COMBAT. The biggest difference will be the cosmetics present on the bats.

What is the difference between the PG3SL112 and the MAXSL112 Michael S
This COMBAT Portent G3 Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (PG3SL112) will show similarities to the MAXSL112 as both bats are 2 5/8" in their barrel diameter and both are all-composite bats with balanced swing weights. However, the MAXUM will feature a little longer barrel length on it that should lead to it having a longer sweet spot as well when compared to this PG3SL112.
