Great Bat Allen parent

Pros: Purchased a 28" bat two weeks ago for my 6 y/o son's birthday. He had been using a 2012 27" S1. As soon as we took the wrapper off of the Mako the little guy started hitting the ball 20 feet further than he did off of the S1 and grounders were coming off very hot. That piqued my 8 y/o's interest. He normally uses a TPX Catalyst. The older one picked the bat up and immediately hit 3 consecutive deep homers over a 150 foot fence. The 8 y/o wants the 30" Mako now. I am a believer. Plus, it looks cool.

Cons: We have had the bat out one time, so I can't comment so much on durability. I have five stars because our other Easton bats have all held up great.

Didn't care for it all. Doug moravec parent

Pros: Light weight Cool looking kids loved it Easy to swing

Cons: We had this bat, marucci elite and a One (blue) 28 -10 the mako is obviously -12 all in the back yard at the same time. My son is 7, big and strong, in between power and contact hitter. He is working on his mostly upper body swinger. Anyways this bat was dead, I know there is a break in period but I can't see it getting that much better. The Marucci Elite and One and my sons older Easton s3 and worth prodigy (red) all hit better. Stung my sons hands more than all the other bats combined that day. Dead sound Ball was dead off the bat No power Disappointed wanted this one to be better than the $349 senior league MAKO 28 -10.

Pros: Sharp looking bat. My sons both are looking to swing for the fence with this. I like the fact the grip was upgraded from last season. Having confidence at the plate is what it's all about and this bat does nothing but help with that.

Cons: Everyone wants to share. Ha get your own!

Tearing up the ball with 6yr old Leatherwood coach

Pros: My son is 2nd smallest kid in his 6yr old league. We used a TPX last and he hit the ball great and we started the yr with the TPX until he tried the Mako. We bought one of Mako's he did so well with hit. His power or pop off the bat is increased crazy amount, parents keep asking what has he done different and most of it is the bat. He uses the 27in 15oz so if you have a small kid the weights are great for smaller one as well

Cons: My son says it does vibrate more than his other bat and there are a few chips of the paint but it hasn't hurt any of the bats ability.

THIS BAT IS REDICULOUS Justin Whitehead parent

Pros: My Seven year Old is Slamming the ball 200+ feet with this bat. Best Bat on the Market Period!

Cons: Very Small Sweet spot. If your Kid can't hit with another Bat this bat will probably hurt them. Has to be hit on the right spot or it will go nowhere.

Great Bat Coach/Parent other

Pros: My son (6U) loves this bat. It has a great pop and added distance to his hitting. other boys on his team have used it and now want to purchase their own.

Cons: He claims that it "stings" his hands from time to time. otherwise a great bat.

Justin R.
My son is on a 10U team. He is 52'' tall and weighs about 60 lbs. Would this bat be a good fit for him? Should he use a 28''? G's Dad
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel would be recommended for tee ball or coach pitch. For kid pitch, you will want to use a Youth Big Barrel or Youth bat. Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend using a 29'' bat. For more information on sizing please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Tori
Does this bat require a break-in period? Kype
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel is a one-piece composite design and like all composite bats will benefit from a break-in.
Jason
My son is small for his age . 52" tall but weight of 60 lbs. He uses a 28" 16 oz. TPX now . I bought this bat due to it's size 28" 16 oz , but it says Junior, not Youth. Will this Easton work? steve
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel is designed for coach pitch only. If he is in machine or kid pitch he would not be able to use the bat. We also recommend to check with your league official to make sure he can use a 2 3/4" bat.
Kara
What is IMX composite? eastonfreak
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel uses Easton's top of the line composite material. The composite provides outstanding performance and durability.
Kara
How does this bat compare/stack up against the S1? Kevin
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel replaced the 2013 Easton S1 Baseball Bat: JBB13S1 Junior Big Barrel. They both use the same IMX composite material for outstanding performance and durability.
Kara
Nine yr. old, 60 lbs, do you suggest MAKO 28" 16 oz. junior big barrel or senior SL14MKB 28" 18 oz., 29" 19 oz.? Nikki
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel is designed for coach pitch only. The SL14MKB can be used in coach pitch, machine pitch and kid pitch. The correct size of the bat is best determined by the height and weight of the player. Check out our bat coach for the correct sizing: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Kara
Why is this bat recommended for players 8 and under when the Louisville Slugger SL13C, is labeled as a senior league bat? They both come in a 28" 18 oz. size. Shane
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel is designed for coach pitch only. The Louisville Slugger SL13C can be used in coach, machine and kid pitch.
Kara
Is this bat available in a "youth" size for the younger kids in kid pitch? cbh1245
Yes, the MAKO is available in a 2 1/4" youth barrel. The name and product number is the 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK) Youth.
Jason
My son is about to turn 7, he is 4'3" and 52 pounds. What size would you recommend? Leslie
Based on your sons height and weight I would advise going with the 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel in a 28" 16 oz. size.
Sean
Why is this for coach pitch only? Will it dent or fail if used against 8 year old pitching? Andrew
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel is a coach pitch bat. Coach pitch bats are made for younger players and have thinner walls which is why they would dent if used against kid pitching.
Damon
My son is 8 1/2, weighs 105 lbs and is 56" tall. He is starting his first year of kid pitch after 2 years in coach pitch. He can use a 2 3/4" barrel and any material bat. Which size and model would be best? Ray
Based on his height and weight, we recommend a 30" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO: SL14MKB Senior League. The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel is best used in coach pitch and will not be able to handle the speeds in kid pitch.
Jason
My son is machine pitch. It throws about 43 mph. Do you think this bat would be able to handle the machine? Big'n
We do not recommend using the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) or any tee ball bat against machine or kid pitch. They are not designed to be strong enough to hold up to the faster and harder pitches.
Tori
My Son will be 9 in 2 months, he is on the smaller side but plays in a kid pitch league, is the easton mako big barrel, 28\16 little league approved if he used it? If not what is the most comparable bat with a similar or same size \weight i can get for him? brian
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel is approved for coach pitch only. It has thin walls and will dent easily. The 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK) Youth is approved for Little League with a 2 1/4 inch barrel and 28'' 17 oz length to weight ratio.
Aaron
My son just turned 6. He is about 47" and 47 lbs. What size would you recommend? I think the bat he has been using is 15 oz. I would like to get a good amount of use out of this bat. mmperkie
Based on his height and weight, we recommend the 27" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel.
Jason
Can this bat be used in tee ball? Jon
It totally depends on what your particular league allows. This 2014 Easton MAKO: (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel bat features the newest USSSA BPF 1.15 performance certification mark like new Tee Ball models, but the barrel diameter is much larger. Most Tee Ball divisions will require the smaller 2 1/4" barrel diameter. Concerning your league's rules, it's always best to contact a league director or coach.
Mac
My son is 5 years old, weighs 40 lbs, and plays Tee Ball. What size would he need? Would this be a good bat for him? jeff
Based on his age, we recommend a 26" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel, but this model is more ideal for coach pitch. The 2014 Easton MAKO (TB14MK) Tee Ball is better suited for a player in Tee Ball.
Jason
Is this bat legal in USSSA kid pitch? Forget about the denting. I just want to know if it is legal. lucky5
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel meets all of USSSA's requirements for play. This bat is advised for coach pitch play but can be used for play in USSSA.
John
What is the difference in this bat and the S1? deuces
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) will have a slight longer barrel and will be slightly lighter swing weight than the Easton S1.
Tori
My son is 4 years old and 46" what size do you recommend for him? joku
Based on his height, I would recommend a 26" bat in the 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel. Based on his age, he may need to go with a tee ball bat.
Justin R.
My son is 7 years old and about 49 inches and 53 pounds. He is playing in coach pitch so I would like to know if I got him the correct size. Denise
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) is designed for coach pitch. Based on your son's height and weight, we would recommend getting a 26'' bat. For more information on sizing please visit our Bat Coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Tori
Hello. My 6 year old son is 47.5" tall and weighs 51 pounds. Your chart says his ideal bat length is 28", is this correct? Also, can this bat be damaged while using the "Rif 5" soft baseballs in coach pitch competition? Thanks :) Vince M
Your son can certainly use the 28" if he is comfortable with it. He could also use an inch or two smaller depending on his comfort level. The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel would be a great choice. You should not see any problem hitting the "Rif 5" balls with this bat.
Aaron
My son is playing tee ball in Georgia. The coach also pitches to the guys. Is this bat approved for tee ball in Georgia? My son is 54" tall and weights 80 lbs. He is currently using the Worth Copperhead 26" 14 oz. bat. Jeff
Yes, the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel) would be a fine choice for tee ball or coach pitch.
Brandon
My son is 7 years old. He is 52 inches tall and weighs 65 lbs. He plays machine pitch. Can you tell me the proper size? He has been using a 27" 10 oz Easton S3. red
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 28" model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel. However, Junior Big Barrel bats are better suited for players in Coach Pitch. For more sizing information please check our bat coach at http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/
Jason
Does the Easton Mako come in a drop 3? bb
The Easton Mako does come in a drop 3 (BB14MK Adult).
Zach B
Is the Mako bat ok to use with pitching machines throwing 38 miles per hour? jim
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel bat is designed to hit baseballs pitched under 40 miles per hour. This speed would be close to the limits of what the barrel walls are made to withstand. It is also important that actual baseballs are used rather than the yellow dimpled balls used with some pitching machines. These yellow dimpled balls can cause damage to the bat and cause durability issues.
Patrick
my son is 48" tall and 58 lbs what size bat should he get cj
Based off of his approximate height and weight, the suggested length would be 27 inches.
Merritt
Can you use this bat with the total control weighted balls or would that be bad for the bat? 2gsmom
We do not recommend hitting a weighted ball with the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) or any of our bats. The walls of the bat are not designed to hit heavier balls so it can actually damage the bat.
Kelby
My son is 7 years old. He weighs 52 pounds and is 3'10" tall. He is on machine pitch this year. What size and weight do you recommend? danny
Based on his height and weight, we suggest a 27" 15 oz model in the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel.
Jason
Does this bat pass Little League standards? Is the barrel size of 2 3/4" too large? im2kuhl
The Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) is not approved for Little League play. The model that you are looking for is the 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK).
Bobby
Does this bat pass Dizzy Dean standards? David
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) is approved in Dizzy Dean.
Kara
What are the performance differences in the Easton Mako junior big barrel and the Easton Mako youth big barrel? Baseball mom
The Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) is designed for use in coach pitch leagues. If it were to be used for kid pitch play it would crack because of the harder ball. The youth big barrel models are designed to be used in kid pitch with the harder balls.
Bobby
Does the MAKO: JBB14MK come in a 2 5/8 inch Barrel? Joey
No. The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel bat currently only comes in a 2 3/4 inch design.
Patrick
Is this bat legal for Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth district play? pat g
The 2014 Easton MAKO: JBB14MK has a 2 3/4", composite barrel and is not legal in Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth.
Kara
Is this 28" 16 oz. suitable for a 60" tall eleven year old? Tanner
No, the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK Junior Big Barrel) would be created for a younger player playing in a Coach Pitch league. A player at the 11 year old age should probably be looking at Youth or Senior League bats. These would be better suited to be more durable for kid pitch.
Brandon
My son is 8 year old and is playing kid pitch hard ball. He uses a 27" 15 oz. bat. Is this bat good for kid pitch hard ball? Joe
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) has thinner walls and is not designed for machine or kid pitch. We recommend the 2014 Easton MAKO (SL14MKB).
Kara
I see you say it isn't legal for Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth leagues. What makes it illegal? cory
Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth do not allow 2 3/4" barrel bats such as the 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK)
Kara
2014 Easton MAKO: YB14MK Youth. Is this the same bat; just lighter? My son is swinging a 28/16 really well and I'm not sure I want to go up an ounce. What are your thoughts? Stephen
The 2014 Easton MAKO (JBB14MK) Junior Big Barrel and 2014 Easton MAKO (YB14MK) Youth bats are actually two different categories of bats, and are designed for different leagues. The Junior Big Barrel model is intended for Coach Pitch leagues and features the largest barrel diameter available (2 3/4"). The Youth MAKO model features the smaller 2 1/4" barrel diameter. Going from a -12 to a -11 in one season is a very manageable transition for most players. The MAKO Youth (YB14MK) still offers a very balanced swing weight, so the -11 length to weight ratio might not feel too heavy to your son. If you need a Youth model, the Easton S1 (YB14S1) would be a -12 model that is very light-swinging as well.
Mac
How long does it take to break-in? Lilman
For a composite bat like the 2014 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel (JBB14MK) we recommend a break-in period of approximately 100 swings off of a tee or soft toss with real baseballs. Most Junior Big Barrel models won't take nearly as long to break-in. The barrel should be rotated a ¼' after each swing to assure complete barrel coverage.
John H
Why is is the JBB14MK discontinued? gdub16
Easton has moved on to the 2015 line of bats so 2014 models like the 2014 Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat (JBB14MK) were discontinued to make room for manufacturing the 2015 line.
Patrick
Can I use this bag for USA leagues and nontravel ball games? Jasper
No, this Easton MAKO Junior Big Barrel Baseball Bat: JBB14MK is only approved for USSSA play.
