Coach of 10U M. Dahl coach

Pros: Great pop evenly distribution of weight for a even quick swing for the younger player. Two piece so it does not sting. Hot right out of the wrapper. Used the older model (green bat) and loved it, once my daughter needed a longer bat we bought this one, was the same bat just at the length she needed.

Cons: Haven't had any yet. The warmer the weather the more pop.

Great value & performance Scott coach

Pros: This Bustos model is a great bat and is on par with older Bustos models my daughter has used (with great effect). In 2013 when I knew she was a serious ball player I didn't hesitate to spend more $$$ and we went with a Di Marini CF6 composite for the first time and were immediately disappointed with it. The natural reaction was to go back to what we knew works, and that is the Bustos model which just happens to cost nearly 1/3 of the CF6. A great bat for the beginner, or serious athlete. Great value/performance ration

Awesome Bat! Softball Mom 22 parent

Pros: My 8 year old was hitting the ball in the outfield with no problem right out of the wrapper. She loves how light it is and she loves the grip of the bat. She said she didn't feel any vibrations like her other bat. Even her coached loved it & is recommending this bat to all the other parents on the team.

Cons: There isn't any cons to this bat!!!

Nice Bat Jerry Lopes parent

Pros: Great bat. My daughter is finally hitting balls. She is small framed, shorter girl and tells me she is more confident hitting faster pitch balls because she doesn't get as much vibration. She is also hitting further and swinging harder. We are very happy with this bat. Her coaches have noticed a difference in her confidence and her hitting.

Cons: None yet.

It goes boom right out of the box Pumpkin Pie bringing the boom! player

Pros: My daughter is 9, she hits lefty, she was using a Worth Storm Lithium that was decent but this Demarini blows it away. She was hitting decent singles with the Worth, first time at bat with the Bustos she bombed one to opposite field, next time over the third basemans head. I have no idea for a rating for durability because she just started to use it but this bat definitley has some pop.

Cons: None.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My daughter is 56" and 70 pounds (9 yrs old). She plays competitive softball, is this a good bat for her or should I consider a one piece? rob
For a 9 yr old, I would recommend going with a two-piece designed bat, such as the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP). The two-piece design create a whip like effect during the swing which will increase her bat speed.
Liz
Does this bat have the USSSA "thumb print" stamp? Does it need a "break-in" period? TravelDad
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) does feature the USSSA thumb print stamp. Since the Bustos has an alloy barrel it does not require a break-in period.
Jake
I have two girls. One is 9 and one is 11 and they both are in their 4th year. This year they are playing 12u fastpitch softball. What size bat should I buy my girls? My 9 year old is 72 lbs. and my 11 year old is 65 lbs. I don't want a bat that requires a break in period. mike
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) is a great choice to go with, if you are looking for a bat that will not require a break in period. Due to the alloy barrel, it will be good to go right out of the wrapper. Sizing is preferential and most of the time can be accurately recommended by a player's height and weight. Based on their ages, our Bat Coach recommends a 31" model for your 11 year old and a 29" for your 9 year old. As mentioned before, you can check out our Bat Coach and put in their height as well as their weight, and it can recommend a size based on their exact size. Here is a link to our Bat Coach: http://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/.
Tessa
I am 5'2" and I weigh 98 lbs. I'm an average hitter. Do you recommend this bat? If not, which one? My price range is $200 or lower. ally1
Based on your height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP). The Bustos is a great option for a player like you. The balanced swing weight and overall light weight design will be great for generating quick bat speed.
Jason
I live in the Northern Rockies and our season begins in April. It is often under 50 degrees at practice and games. Is this bat usable at colder temps? munchyroo
Really, there won't be bats that are specifically made for those type of temperatures because the ball is actually what has the issue at that point. The ball condenses and becomes harder which can cause bats like the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) to break more easily. Alloy barrel bats tend to stand up a bit better than composite models but they can still have problems.
Patrick
At what age/size/weight will you really reap benefits from composite softball bats over alloy bats? CrazySoftballDad
It would not necessarily be a certain age or size that would see more benefit from composite bats over alloy models like the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) but rather what you are wanting out of the bat. If you think she may be using the bat for a longer time without outgrowing it, it may be time to switch. The main difference is that we tend to see composite bats last a bit longer at their peak level of performance than the alloy models do. Basically, at their best they will perform to roughly the same level but you get a longer time that it would perform at that level with composite models.
Patrick
My daughter 4 foot 5 inches and weighs 70 pounds. What size would you recommend for her? Softball mom 75
Based on your daughters height and weight I would recommend getting the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) in a 30 inch.
Frankie
Would you recommend the 32 inch model for a 12 year old girl who is 5 foot 2 and weighs 110 pounds? Jay
Based on height and weight, the 32 inch size of the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) would be a good fit for your player.
Patrick
Does this have the NSA 2012 symbol on it? Tammy
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) does have the NSA 2012 stamp on the taper.
Patrick
My niece is 5' and weighs about 150 lbs. What size do you think for her? dj
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP).
Jason
I'm looking at this bat for my 9 year old who plays in a rec. league. Her teammates use composite bats and are great hitters. I'd like to increase her pop at the lowest price possible since her 8 year old sister and 7 year old brother also need new bats. What is the major difference between this bat and the 29 inch DeMarini Uprising and Easton Alpha? rd
The hybrid design of the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) allows for a bit more flex to the bat which can help increase bat speed and helps reduce sting and vibration on balls hit off the end of the barrel. The single-piece designs of the Easton Alpha Fastpitch Softball Bat (FP13AL) and DeMarini Uprising Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXDMF) do not have that same flex or sting prevention.
Patrick
My daughter is 4 foot 6, and weighs 80 pounds. What size do you recommend for her? Does this bat need breaking-in? CLM26
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) does not need to be broken-in. It has an alloy barrel and only composite barrel bats need a break-in period. Based on height and weight, we would recommend a 30 inch size.
Patrick
My daughter is 12 years old, very petite (4'10", 80 lbs), and plays 12U fastpitch select softball. Would this be a good choice for her or does she need a heavier bat? What size/weight would you recommend? Rebecca
Based upon your daughter's height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP. I do believe that a -13 would be a good choice for a player of your daughter's size but that is all going to depend upon your player's personal preference and strength.
John
My daughter will be turning 9 at the start of the spring season. She is 4'9" and 76lbs. What size bat should she be using? She has been playing for 5 years and this will be her 6th coming up. Paul D
For your daughter's height and weight we recommend a 31" length bat.
Angelique
Is there a 33 inch for this bat? abbie
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP does not come in a 33 inch model. The longest size this bat will come in will be a 32 inch model.
Cameron
What size would you recommend for an 11 year old around 4'5" tall with a weight around 68 lbs that needs some bat speed? Jerry
Based on her height and weight, we would recommend getting the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP in a 30 inch 17 ounce model.
Cameron
My daughter is 9 years old, 55" tall. This is her second year playing softball. What size bat is recommended (length/weight)? Thank you. softball dad
We base our recommendations off of height and weight for each player. Based on your daughter's height, if she weighs below 70 lbs she should swing around a 29" bat. If she weighs between 70-90 lbs, she should swing a 30". If she weighs over 90 lbs, we recommend swinging a 31" bat. As for the weight, I would recommend looking at what she is currently swinging. If she has faster bat speed with her current bat weight, she could afford to go up in weight to add some mass to the bat to increase power. If her bat speed is slower with her current weight, then she should look into going with a lighter weight than she currently swings.
Nick
My daughter has been swinging this bat for about 3 months and we haven't noticed much flex in the handle. However, this weekend she said the handle was flexing pretty good. Is this how these bats act when they break-in or does it sound like the bat might have broke? JackNasty
I wouldn't say that your DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) has become defective on you, but I will be honest and say that I have not heard of this experience from past owners of the Bustos. For now, I would say that you guys are just fine, but if you start to notice a decline in performance I would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer to try and get a warranty replacement model.
Ben
Can this bat be used in colder temps and with dimpled cage balls? mike
I would recommend limiting the use of this DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) in temperatures below 55 degrees (only allow use for one player and only use the bat in game situations). However, do not use this bat with dimpled cage balls. Those balls are denser than regular balls and will damage the barrel of this bat if used frequently with those balls.
Ben
My daughter is 8 yrs old, 4' tall, and around 85-90 lbs. What length/weight do you recommend for her with this bat? softball dad
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 29" 16 oz model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Jason
I'm 5'3" and 155 lbs. Would the 32" and 19 oz model work for me? paige
Based upon your height and weight, I would recommend going with this DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) in the longest 32" option. However, if you feel like you can handle a bat with a heavier weight than 19 oz, I would encourage you to look at other models as well. Maybe consider a the 2016 DeMarini CF8 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXCFS) with its -11 length-to-weight ratio in the 32" or 33" lengths.
Ben
Is this the newer version of the old, green Bustos? Is this a Half & Half? batesmom
Yes, this DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) is the newer version of the green Bustos released in the past. As well, it will have a hybrid build (alloy barrel and composite handle) and also feature DeMarini's Half & Half technology (which creates superior flex before impact and a recoil for a burst of energy).
Ben
My player is 5'1" and 100 lbs. Do I need to break in the Bustos bat, since it only has a composite handle? Approximately how long is this bat supposed to last and how do we know when to retire it? 12u Aunt of fast pitch/Jr. High ball
Based upon your player's height and weight, I would suggest going with a length of bat in the 32" length. As long as your player can handle the 19 oz weight of the 32" option of this bat, I would recommend that size. This Bustos will not need to be broken-in since it has an alloy barrel on it. I would imagine that you guys would be able to get multiple seasons of use out of the bat if cared for properly. When the bat begins to show decreased performance or is structurally defective, you'll want to think about retiring the model of bat.
Ben
My daughter uses a 22 oz bat now. Will it be okay to drop down to a 19 oz bat? bud
If your daughter is currently using a bat with a 22 oz weight, I would probably recommend moving down to a 21 oz or 20 oz weight before moving to a bat with a 19 oz weight. I imagine that you are looking at the 32"/19 oz size of this DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP). That 3 oz drop in weight would be pretty significant and I would only suggest making that move if you felt it was absolutely necessary.
Ben
My daughter is age 10, 5' 6" tall, weight 125. just purchased this bat 32 -13. Question i- Is this size a good fit? Her last bat was 33 -13 bat vibration was ridiculous. (different brand) Does an inch smaller matter? Lisa
Based on your daughter's height and weight, we would recommend getting the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP in a 33 inch 20 ounce model. Going to a 32 inch bat is certainly not out of the question as we cannot factor in how a player's current bat size may be affecting their swing. As for the bat and its vibration, this will be associated when a player hits the ball off the barrel (end cap or towards the hands). A one-piece bat will typically have more vibration from the off-centered hits as these type of bats do not flex as much as a two-piece bat does. Essentially, a one-piece bat, without the connection point, will not be able to redirect vibration as well as a two-piece bat.
Cameron
My daughter is currently using a 29 inch/19 oz bat and I'm looking to get her a 30 inch. I'm looking at the 30 inch 17 oz bat but I'm wondering if dropping her 2 oz would be good for her or not? cm
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP features a -13 length to weight ratio so the 30" length will weigh 17 ounces. It is typically not recommended to go down in weight but it ultimately is going to come down to what is most comfortable for your player.
John P.
What are the temperature recommendations? Soph
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP, as well as any other bat for that matter, are going to perform better in warmer weather conditions (70 degrees and above). With that said, if you are having to use this bat in colder temperatures on more consistent basis then we would suggest keeping the bat in a bat warmer for game days and using a different bat during practices.
Cameron
My daughter is 10 years old, weighs 115 pounds, and is 4'10". What size bat would you recommend? t
Based upon your daughter's height and weight, I would recommend using a 31" DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
John P.
My daughter is 17, 5'6", and weighs 145 pounds. What size bat should she use for fastpitch softball? eagle
Based upon your daughter's height and weight, I would recommend using a 33" DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
John P.
I am buying a bat for my niece. They said she needs a 30"/19 oz option of DeMarini fastpitch bat. Can you tell me which model would fit this exact size? Dawn Brandt
This DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) will not be available in the 30"19 oz size. However, I would recommend looking at the 2016 DeMarini CF8 Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXCFS) in order to get a DeMarini bat in the 30"/19 oz size.
Ben
My daughter is 14, 5'7" and weighs 100 pounds. What size bat should she use? Jen
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 32" model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Jason
Can this bat be used with the rubber First Practice Fence Buster Pitching machine? Same question for a boys DeMarini youth Vexxum. If not, what do you recommend for this price range? We would like to reduce vibration in bat so she will swing harder and drive thru the ball. JT
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP, or any other softball or baseball bat, could be used with the first practice fence buster pitching machine. As for reducing vibration, a two-piece bat will help reduce vibration and the stinging sensation a player feels when a ball is not squared up properly.
Cameron
My daughter is 12 years old. She is 5 ft tall and 98 lbs. Which bat size is the best option for her? The 31" or the 32"? lil nay
For your daughter's height and weight we recommend a 31" length bat.
Angelique
What size would you recommend for my almost 9 year old daughter who is 4'10" and 68 lbs? She currently has a composite bat that is 28" and 16 oz. but has been getting many stingers recently. Kelli
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 30" model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Jason
My daughter is 12 years old, 5ft tall and 120lbs. She has great bat speed. What bat size would you recommend? K Ray
Based upon your daughter's height and weight, my general recommendation would be to get a fastpitch bat with a 32" length. If you feel like your daughter can handle and benefit from using the 19 oz weight of the 32" option of this DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP), I would recommend getting this bat in that size.
Ben
My daughter is 5 years old, 49 lbs. and 3' 8" tall. What is the best size alloy bat for her? Dawn J
I would recommend a 26" bat for your daughter based on your daughter's height and weight. The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat (DXBFP) unfortunately only comes in a 29". I would instead recommend the 2016 Mizuno Jennie Finch Tee Ball Softball Bat (TB16FINCH).
Jake
What size bat do you recommend for my 7 year old daughter? Her height is 50 inches and she weighs 60 lbs. LC
For your daughter's height and weight, we recommend a 28" bat length. Typically 7 year old fastpitch players use a -12 or -13 length to weight ratio.
Angelique
What size bat do you recommend for my 9 year old daughter? (first year player) Her height is 4'6" and weight is around 72 lbs. Her swing is pretty hard when she hits in the back yard with her brothers who play baseball. Greg
Based on her height and weight, we suggest a 30" model in the DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP.
Jason
I'm looking at buying the Bustos Fastpitch bat for my daughter. I know that it has the ASA 2004 logo printed on it but it's not listed as one of the ASA Certified bats on the teamusa.org website. The last Bustos model that is on the list is the BFP12. Should I be worried that our local league may have an issue that the newer Bustos models are not on the list? galas
The DeMarini Bustos Fastpitch Softball Bat: DXBFP would be certified for ASA play. ASA has not adjusted their stamps since the ASA 2004 stamp, but bats with this stamp are still eligible for use.

About the Brand

In 1992, DeMarini Sports had something to celebrate. The three-year-old company had climbed a rung on the proverbial ladder of success, moving its world headquarters from a dirt-floored barn to a slightly larger metal shack. "It was a big move for us," recalled Ray DeMarini from the batting cage of DeMarini Sport’s present-day Bat Industrial Complex. "The new shop was larger, more storm resistant, and -best of all- it had a heater."

In the early days, DeMarini Sports hardly made a blip on the radar screen of softball. With no retailers and virtually no advertising budget, DeMarini grew steadily by selling high-performance bats directly to customers. While established companies made "juiced" bats for the pros and ordinary bats for the public, DeMarini focused on making one line of high-performance bats for pros and amateurs alike. This approach, combined with a passion for the sport, led to the greatest innovation in softball history - the world’s first multi-wall bat: the DeMarini Doublewall.

Released in 1993, the DeMarini Doublewall was the world’s first multi-wall bat. Like a modern golf driver or oversized tennis racket, the Doublewall had a giant "sweetspot," which allowed average players to hit like pros. DeMarini’s sales exploded, and before long opposing bat manufacturers to notice. DeMarini - a homegrown company led by a softball fanatic - had shaken the establishment silly.

To understand the rise of the DeMarini Dynasty, you need to know Ray DeMarini. A cult hero among avid players, Ray DeMarini emerged on the professional softball scene at the age of 40, a veritable geriatric among younger players. With a scientific approach to training, a batting speed of 96 miles-per-hour and a bombastic attitude, DeMarini fast earned a reputation as a savage competitor.

In June of 1987, ESPN launched a nationwide search for a hardcore player to advise on a series of instructional softball videos. When approached by producer Erich Lytle, the biggest boys in softball repeatedly spoke of a five-foot-seven softball giant—Ray DeMarini. DeMarini had mastered reflex hitting, a technique that drops the ball squarely between the infield and outfield. Impressed with DeMarini's knowledge and scientific approach to training, Lytle not only hired Ray as an advisor—he hired him as the host. Together, they produced Ray DeMarini's Reflex Hitting System, ESPN's most successful home video to date.

Having garnered national recognition through ESPN, Ray turned his efforts toward designing a high-performance bat for the masses. To accomplish this, he needed an engineer. "Not just an engineer," he said, "but a boot-strapping rocket scientist who could build an empire with pocket change." Ray's call was answered by Mike Eggiman. Having grown up on a farm, Eggiman was adept at making the most of a situation. Case in point: the company's first piece of automated bat-making equipment had the heart of an abandoned washing machine.

With Eggiman as Chief Engineer, DeMarini Sports delivered a series of industry firsts: the first multi-wall bat (Doublewall Distance), the first high-performance bat for massive players (Fatboy) and the first high-performance youth bat (Black Coyote).

In 2000, DeMarini joined forces with Wilson Sporting Goods to develop the next generation of hitting technology. Ray believed it was a perfect fit, as both companies shared a vision of developing game-enhancing equipment for avid players. What’s more, the companies had complimentary products: Wilson was the leader in gloves, balls and protective gear, while DeMarini made the world’s finest bats. According to Chris Considine, Vice President/General Manager of Wilson Sporting Goods: "The thing that struck me most about DeMarini was their passion for sports and their true competitiveness.

Within a year, DeMarini unveiled the industry’s first concept bat, the $35,000 F1. Secured under lock and key at the DeMarini Bat Industrial Complex in Hillsboro, Oregon, the F1 served as a technological storehouse for future products, including DeMarini’s landmark Half & Half system.

In December 2001, 12 years after the genesis of DeMarini Sports, Ray DeMarini died of cancer in his Northwest Portland home. He was 55. The next summer, the Portland Metro Softball Association paid homage to the “King of Softball” with the dedication of Ray DeMarini Field. Formerly known as Delta #1, the field was DeMarini’s favorite place to test bats during the early days of business. Ray DeMarini—bat maker and player extraordinaire—was remembered for his high-performance softball bats and unwavering encouragement of everyday players. Today, a 40-foot sign announcing RAY DEMARINI FIELD graces the outfield, and an interpretive display chronicling Ray’s life greets players as they register for games.

More "Insane Dedication to Performance" is in store for tomorrow.
