My son, who is 10, seemed to be more of a contact hitter. However; he has been swinging the bat a lot faster over the past several months, and seems to be getting quite a bit stronger. I have been debating whether to get the 2014 Voodoo or the 2014 Portent. Not sure I understand the differences well enough. For a 10 year old close to 70lbs, athletic build, with an increasing bat speed, which would be a better fit? Christos
If your son has increasing bat speed you might consider going with a slightly end loaded bat like the DeMarini Voodoo. This will help him generate more inertia and kind of balance his bat speed.

My son is 11 (12 baseball age) and a pretty strong kid with good bat speed. He has been swinging a B4 Portent 30" 20 oz. and I was thinking about the new B4 31" 19 oz. i figured the combo of an extra inch with reduced weight would keep his swing weight pretty close. The 2014 COMBAT Portent: PORSL110 is a -10, but they make that same model in a -12. The 2014 COMBAT Portent: PORSL112 Senior League is one of the only -12s made with a 2 5/8" barrel. The only other option is the 2013 Louisville Slugger TPX Catalyst: SL13C, which won't have the extended barrel like the Portent. The Portent will also be slightly higher performing than the Catalyst.

My son is 9 and a big kid for his age at 5ft tall and 90 lbs. He has grown out of his 28" 18 oz. Easton S3 and is currently using a 29" 19 oz. Vexxum. He has adapted well to the end load and has good, but not great bat speed. It seems to be getting faster as he gets stronger. We are looking to upgrade his DeMarini. The only differences between the 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL110) and the 2013 B4 Portent are cosmetic. This bat would be a good choice for a line drive hitter with good power because it is a one-piece composite.

The only difference between the COMBAT Portent (PORSL110) Senior League and the COMBAT Portent XL (PORSL210) Senior League is barrel size. They are constructed with the same material, so pop will be the same. Some league do not allow the 2 3/4" barrel which is why someone could purchase the 2 5/8" barrel.

The 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL110) and the 2014 Easton S1 (SL14S110) are both very high performing composite bats. The S1 is a two-piece composite and is best for a contact hitter. The one-piece design of the Portent is better for a power hitter.

No, I wouldn't recommend the CF5 over the 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL110). Both feature very high performing composite materials and have a nicely balanced swing, which is ideal for contact hitters.

If he is a contact hitter I would recommend the 2014 COMBAT Wanted (WANSL110) Senior League because it is a two-piece bat which should help more with swing speed and also cut down on vibration when he makes contact.

The 2014 COMBAT Portent (PORSL110) is a balanced, one-piece fully composite bat. A power hitter will tend to prefer a one-piece design because it will provide a stiffer feel on contact. The Marucci Elite is a seamless two-piece hybrid model, which will feel somewhat similar to the one-piece design of the Portent. However, it is a two-piece bat so it does allow for a little more flex on contact than than the Portent. If you are more of a power hitter, the Portent may be the better option for you.

I am unsure where you are seeing the model number PORSL1 but the 10 at the end of the model code for the COMBAT Portent Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL110) indicates that it is a -10 length to weight ratio. Similarly, the -8 version of the bat is listed as COMBAT Portent Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL108) and the -12 is COMBAT Portent Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL112).

The fact that they are different one-piece versus two-piece construction would be the only major difference between the COMBAT Portent Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL110) and the 2015 COMBAT Wanted Senior League Baseball Bat w/ Lizard Skin Grip (WG3SL110). They both use similar techniques for their composite construction and both will be similarly balanced.

My son is moving up from Little League"s 2 1/4 inch diameter bat to travel ball with a 2 5/8 inch diameter bat so I am trying to decide on what bat would be his best option without breaking the bank. The preliminary options are a 29 inch 19 ounce Combat Portent or a 29 inch 19 ounce DeMarini CF7. He was fond of his 2 1/4 inch DeMarini Vexxum 30 inch 16.5 ounce (-13.5) that he used in Little League, but has also liked a teammate"s Combat. Suggestions? RW
Either the COMBAT Portent Senior League Baseball Bat (PORSL110) or the 2015 DeMarini CF7 Senior League Baseball Bat (DXCFX) would both be nice options. The CF7 will have a bit more flex for added bat speed and a bit better sting protection. The Portent will have a bit larger sweet spot. The preference would come down to which design feature you like more.
